The water’s edge was calm and quite in the morning and that was fine with Kelpie. She had ventured a bit further north from her normal range hoping to find her sister and talk some sense into her finally. It was really only a matter of time before the humans turned on all Azerin for the actions of the six so why not get a head start and take them out first? It only made sense to ensure one’s own race’s survival first. Of course Kealpie hadn’t really joined the Six yet. After all they were land walkers and she spent her life in the water. Sooner or later she would met them and then she would see if she wanted to join or simply stay solo. It was so easy to hide under the water where it was safe. Pity her sister like the edge. It was so irritating. Why should they care for the war of the land walkers. All their war would do was pollute the waters and cause death. Sometime Kealpie wished she could beat them down and drag them under the water and just end it all. But what fool would really get close enough?

Adaeze traveled quickly and quietly she was far more used to the noise of the world around her without having to see any of it. Her own eyesight was always weak and she grown to wearing masks like her father did. Not through any disfigurement but rather in a way to honor her father’s pain and strength. She also kept a reign on her so that if she ever was lucky to meet her future bonded. She was certain she would after all she was her father’s daughter. She heard another nearby and stopped to listen.

Delta had been flying for a while when his wings gave an early sign of exhaustion. Sighing, he looked for a safe place to land. There was a river, but he wasn't sure how strong the current was... but the land next to it seemed pretty even. His location set, he gracefully swooped out of the sky and landed a few yards away from a masked mare. Lifting his head, he looked over at her curiously. Could she see through that? It didn't look like it had openings for the eyes...

Kaelpie saw a shadow coming down so she dipped into the water and kept low. She cursed her bright coat. She thought to listen to the land walkers walk and know if they were crossing and if she needed to flee. Still the anger boiled in her skin and she thought of drowning them.

Adaeze tilted her head hearing another very close by now. A flier? Most likely. She wasn’t being attacked though so they must want something. “Hello?” Her voice was a bit gravely like her mother’s but not nearly the growl Ayira always had. She heard splashing. There was another but they were hiding? Or a victim of the Six, a spy? Probably nothing so exciting. Perhaps they just didn’t want to talk. Or they had a history with the flier?

Oh. Could she see him? Even if she hadn't, apparently she knew he was there. "Hello," he replied, his voice quiet but clear. He took a few steps closer, glancing towards the water. He could see something vague in the water... someone's heart? He didn't know of any Azrien that could really swim, let alone dive under the water in a river... Turning his attention back to the masked mare, he smiled. "I'm Delta. What's your name?"

A very nice voice to listen too. Not hearing more from the water she thought it might be a water serpent. She really should stay away from the water. “Adaeze. Nice to meet you Delta.” She nodded her head to greet him and decided to investigate. “May I come closer?” She didn’t like the idea of invading space of others without permission given how sensitive she was about her space. So far she was pretty sure she was speaking to a male. There had been flapping so they had wings and landed fairly close which was kind of annoying but not too bad since it didn’t seem they were to aggressive.

Sad part of the water was that sound was distorted. There was some noise like talking but it was far to faint to even make out words. Slipping forward in the water she could see the distorted forms at least partly from her vantage point. They weren’t looking at her so far as she could tell which was nice.

Delta smiled. "Nice to meet you as well, Adaeze." An interesting name. Not unexpected for an interesting Azrien, though. He started to nod to her question and then realized she probably wouldn't be able to see it. "Sure." He didn't mind.

The silence made her wonder if perhaps he would tell her no. She nodded and moved forward slowly and carefully approaching him with her nose out. When her mask bumped into solid mask she stopped. Taking a small huff she inhaled his scent. It was strong but not overwhelming. She moved around him nosing softly. Wings. Yep wings. Leathery? Odd.

Kaelpie stayed put but was getting curious.

Delta stayed still for her, not wanting to startle the sightless mare. His wing twitched a bit under her touch, though; he wasn't used to having it touched. After a minute, he spoke. "Um, if you don't mind me asking... what's it like? Moving around without seeing anything." Whether she was actually blind or not, he was pretty sure she couldn't see him with the mask on.

“Close your eyes and find out. I’ll show you.” She kept moving around him but stopped at his side when he asked his question. She waited patiently. He seemed the kind to speak when ready. It was quite polite since she really couldn’t see around the mask and she usually kept her eyes closed anyway. It was always an interesting experience to show someone who could see what it was like. He father had shown her with her weak sight and she had never forgotten.

Kaelpie’s head slowly rose out of the water almost noiselessly to watch the pair. What were the land walkers up to?

Delta blinked and smiled. "Ok." He closed his eyes, wondering how exactly she'd show him. "Ready." It interested him, knowing how others lived--especially when they lived unique lives. And life without sight was one that was a foil of his own oddity.

“Now listen to the sound of my voice. It seems so different compared to if you could see me. Don’t be surprised I’m going to nudge you again. Try and think of it compared to when you could see me.” She gently nosed the leathery spot that she was fairly sure were his wings. The wind softly passed them playing at her mane. She could hear some dripping from the river. Odd something must have gotten wet and been dripping back into the water. Or perhaps the water serpent was looking at them. The thought brought a smile behind her mask. She gave Delta a few moments of silence to truly appreciate the change in senses before moving on. “It’s different so far isn’t it; would you like to see more?

Kealpie kept watching the pair. Mates? The seemed close.
PostPosted: Tue May 21, 2013 12:43 pm

It was different. Maybe it was because he couldn't see Adaeze's mouth moving. His wing twitched when it was touched again. The wind ruffled his mane as he took in the sounds and smells of his surroundings, and for a moment, an old memory flashed in his eyes. He'd done this before with someone, hadn't he? Enjoyed nature without sight...

Delta couldn't keep hold on the memory, so he just turned his attention back to the mare speaking to him. "Yes, please." This was interesting. It was definitely different, but it was kinda fun.

“This next part can be sometimes scary. Lift a hoof and take a step forward.”
She knew that it would feel like stepping into nothingness. Not knowing if you were stepping in a hole or on a rock that could twist a leg. It was the unknown that was the most terrifying of all. For a time she could only wear her mask in small grasps of time while she learned to trust herself more. The chain reign she had jingled as she shifted her weight. “I know that is very unnerving to take a high step. Next take another step forward but drag your hoof so it hardly leaves the ground.” He would feel the grass in a whole new way. The softness of this ground the occasional stone. It would all be like new.

Kaelpie moved closer to the shore. The masked one seemed to be directing the winged one.

It was unnerving. Delta hesitantly lifted a hoof and took a step forward. To his relief, it met a nice, solid piece of earth. They were close enough to the river that he worried he'd misstep and fall in. "Ok..." He followed the next instruction, almost opening his eyes in surprise. Had the grass... always felt like that? This was a little strange... how the same things could feel so different with his eyes closed.

“Tell me what you feel.” She waited as he found the words. It was a bit different and it might be hard to describe. The feeling of knowing that there was a massive world around you and yet feeling only part of it. These feelings weren’t noticed by those who could see but in those who couldn’t or didn’t it was enhanced. She moved closer and stood beside him able to hear his breathing. The water was still dripping from the river. The kiediscope of sounds was something she was used to but this male might not be.
