Upon receiving her staff her father had promptly instructed her to practice with it, and practice she did. Though she wasn't very good with it and she wasn't really good with any of the spells that she was suppose to be using. Part of her was rather timid about the idea of using magic. Beating things seemed easier? That was how she had been doing things up until this point so why change?
But Burrom had different idea's on how Tilawen needed to develop, and thus he had led her to a place where he basically forced her to fight for her life. Using his enchanted spear he set several Dactyl nests on fire and then stepped back. Causing such a large ruckus the the creatures in their panic were flying all over the place, attacking each other before suddenly turning their focus on the young girl.
Tilawen stood frozen before she tried to wave her staff as the dactyls began their attack. She called out to her father who stood back and wouldn't move to assist her. Realizing she was alone in this she was to be honest felt rather...abandoned. Not knowing what to do she desperately tried to remember the words to the spells she had only just learned.
Little puffs of black smoke erupted from her staff as she tried and failed spell after spell. Burrom was starting to wonder if she was useless with this sort of thing. Should he step in? It was hard for him to just stand there after spending he entire life protecting her from everyone else.
About to grab his spear and step in suddenly there was a small cry from the girl, the dactyls gave a shriek as the girl was suddenly engulfed in a ball of flames. Including the dactyls. In a sudden ball of heat and flame the dactyls were taken care of, the girl who was in the center of fire was unharmed though the flames suddenly died like a candle it flickered and then was snuffed out. The girl collapsed in a heap, the ashes of the creatures drifting down around her. Burrom had underestimated her...and then went to gather the girl up. She was sleeping strangely enough ..but he would let her.
