WHO: Revontulet, Lulu WHEN: Middle of the night - no one is up to any good at this time WHERE: Just entering town, some small shops can be seen but it's not a busy area WEATHER: Full moon on a clear night; it's a little warm but not uncomfortable
It had been a little while since the redhead had brought her to their small island paradise. Although other people lived on the plot of land and it wasn’t even that far from the shore, it felt secluded and distant. Doucette’s job had her going in to work during the day and although she had taken off a good amount of time after the frei had moved in to make sure everything went well she now had a busier schedule to pick back up. Some days she even took the aurora in to class with her, the children oohing and aahing over her delicate features and cool skin and flitting wings. Many days though, Ren preferred to stay on the island, tucked away inside doing whatever caught her fancy.
Nights were when the frei felt like she could be more alive. Now that she’d figured out how to feed properly, it wasn’t such a strange sensation, and she could even watch the moon and the stars without making herself feel sick on accident or freaking people out with the whole glow-bug thing.
The distance of the island was a bonus too. Even when the ferry slowed to a run every hour and then only every two hours, Ren had found after a great deal of (slightly dangerous but quite exhilarating) experimentation that she could make it all the way to the other shore without the ferry at all. Now the nights were truly hers! With Doucette thinking the distance of the shore was a setback for the frei, she didn’t bother to check that the girl was sleeping every night. Thus, when one night Ren tossed fitfully in her bed with the moon shining large and full through her window and finally left the small house for freedom, her guardian was none the wiser.
Revontulet felt wrong. A different kind of wrong than the first time she’d accidentally fed and hadn’t known what was happening. This wasn’t an acceptable kind of wrong. If someone had told her there were bugs under her skin she might have believed them and she rubbed at her wrists with a nervous irritation. Caribbean blues darted from side to side as she made her way to the mainland and her wings tucked in against her back despite her usual hatred of leaving them still. An almost visible air of agitation hung about the frei, heavy and certainly just that side of foreboding. Ren wasn’t sure why she was out or what it would accomplish, but it was better than feeling caged in. Trapped.

LuLu also knew all too well the feeling of being trapped in your own skin. Even with the rainstorm from earlier weighing heavy on her, her body was still quivering with pent up power. The sensation of ink gliding along her skin was only one of many distractions clouding her mind. Instinct, pain and anger also rattled around in her head. She could not think straight long enough to harness her energy for anything other than unleashing it upon other people or continuing her quest for more ink to indulge in. Whatever vigor she had harnessed was fueling her search for even greater strength, like a growth spurt gone horribly wrong. The fluid lashing out around her was a testament to the fact, in her current state, she could not contain all the power she had consumed and that she had lost control of it.
LuLu could tell she was close to feeding now. She was near a town. A town meant people and shops. Somewhere there had to be a store that sold ink. Surely they would not mind giving her access to nourishment. It was either that or her taking it. Either way, she would get what she wanted.
The rabbit did a double take when she saw Revontulet. The younger frei's torso was draped in gleaming white and her hair was a gradient of inky-aqua blue reminiscent of the ocean. It would have been difficult to miss her. The rabbit beckoned to Ren in sweet but cracked tone, like rancid candy. "What are you doing here Miss?"

Despite the tucked-in nature of the frei, the other’s words had those pale green wings lifting one section at a time in interest. Partially obscured by the inky camouflage, Revon had a difficult time making out just what had called to her from out of the darkness. Squinting her eyes, the newborn moved closer towards the sound until the figure could be made out in better relief. It looked...almost frei-like, as Cesc has been and as she was. But there was something different and strange about it.
Revontulet drew close, perhaps closer than one would normally have drawn to something that others would have been afraid of. A full arms reach was not between them and the aurora resisted breeching that short distance to touch the darkened frei. Cesc had felt like Doucette; soft and warm. How would this one feel? Different from Cesc? Similar to Ren? Unique? These past weeks had been an exploration in touch. There was little more that the girl wished to do than put her hands upon everything that she came upon and explore it as a blind person would. But Doucette had grown concerned about the Raevan’s invasive nature and lectured her about breeching personal space. So Ren only looked, almost hungrily, at the ink-monster bunny.
“Escaping,” she replied. Although it had been a long, long time for Ren to begin talking (yet another cause for panic with the poor red head who fretted over every little thing the aurora did differently than the other frei she’d met), she’d finally opened her lips to beautifully formed and selected words. Like a perfectionist the girl had studied the sounds and lips of others, careful to never try something she didn’t think she could reproduce and master. After hours of watching movies while Doucette worked she’d finally begun speaking, the aurora’s voice a little breathy and restrained like the women in the black and white movies she was beginning to love so very much.
“Why are you here?”

LuLu tilted her chin to the side as Ren drew closer. This experience was starting out so much like her run in with Cruz. The rabbit could not help her reaction. The talon-like fingers of one hand curled into threatening arcs. The tension ran up her body until her wings stretched open with a harsh snap. It was a frightful display. Yet, the frei did not make it any more than a display.
On the contrary, she wanted the younger raevan to come nearer. Her other hand wagged Ren over. Her inky digit dripped a foul black. When she saw Ren was not approaching anymore she closed the last strained inches between them. That one ink coated finger poised itself against the center of Ren's chest just beneath the delicate crooks of her collarbones. A black drip rolled down her pale skin.
LuLu lips were curled tightly over her stained teeth but the rest of the muscles in her face were relaxed. Like Ren, the rabbit was also trying to escape. Unlike Ren, it was only a part of the rabbit. LuLu's rational side was in a desperate struggle to elude her instinct. However, it was difficult to run away when your pursuer was yourself. So her logic found itself withdrawing deeper and deeper into the back of her mind.
Her head lulled side to side as she said words carelessly, "For fun. For food. For power. There are so many reasons I cannot keep track." Fighting was not her top priority like it had been with Cruz and LuLu was not planning to make it one unless the other frei decided to move it up the list. Her glossy eyes focused on Revontulet. "Would you like to help?"

Lulu’s display received no reaction from the frei; the gentle, idle flicker of her wings the only movement afforded the moment. Threatening as she tried to look, Revontulet found that there was little to be disturbed by. So the smile was a little on the demented side, but those ears were no doubt a rabbits (of which she had only witnessed in the variety of cute and innocent) and the way the ink seeped and dripped told the newborn that this was only a surface condition.
So be it. A rabbit with a temporary attitude problem was not something to concern the aurora.
For now, at least.
The newborn had found there was very little strength in her slim form and though she had so far shown a tendency for the more risky of options presented to her, the daredevil attitude should not be confused with a fighting one.
When the touch landed upon her chest Ren case her gaze down, watching the drop trace a dark trail along flesh that seemed to almost glow in the moonlight. The feeling was...new. Interesting. It was cold, like herself, but the slick way it curved along the top of her breast before creating a stain along the hem of her crisp dress was unique. Before Lulu could pull the hand away which had left the spot Ren lifted her own, fingers inquisitive rather than grasping and slow enough to be nothing remotely close to a threat. They smoothed along the side of one inky talon before moving away and coming to be inspected before curious eyes.
The aurora turned her gaze back to the monster before her own lips took on their version of a twisted smile – somewhat sweet and yet off putting, eyes as cold as the winter nights so famed for viewing her essence.
“Let us have fun then.”

Somehow, through their faces, they were speaking the same language now. Both of them had wide smirks aimed at each other. From one unbalanced creature to the other, the message was sent instantly. The expression Ren wore went straight to LuLu's rune. Its light pulsed dull purple to manifest her excitement.
Yes, this is what exactly she needed. A distraction would be perfect for her after what Luka had done. Her emotions were still raw after all the digging and clawing the satyr had done trying to uncover them. Inside she still hurt because of him. Outside she was still scathing mad at him.
LuLu pulled her hand away from the aurora's chest. She then tapped the girl's nose lightly. It left a small black dot on its straight, rosy tip. "Tell me how you have fun." The rabbit was genuinely curious, because of the way Ren appeared. LuLu was becoming deranged herself. So she was beginning to understand what crazy looked like. Yet, Ren would have passed as sane to anyone else. Concealed and calculated, but sane.
LuLu continued. Her body moved slowly as she floated around Ren to match her drawn out words. "I knooow whaaaat I wooould dooo." The rabbit stopped next to a public trashcan. Seemingly without a thought or care about repercussions the frei grabbed the container and held it high above her head. She could feel the muscles in her back straining in a delicious way. In the next second it was sent through a store's display window. The resulting crash was stupendous in her opinion. Glass littered the sidewalk in shards like ice and a fine dust like glitter. LuLu was proud of her work. This would set the stage for their night.

At the touch upon her nose the newborn recoiled slightly, eyes narrowing with distaste at the sensation. It was not the touch that so much concerned the girl, as evidenced by the smudge remaining for a long moment before being rubbed away, but the overwhelming claustrophobia that flooded her senses as the talon reached too close into the range of her vision. Pale wings seemed to rise and fall like lungs taking in air, folding over themselves before expanding once more and then fanning to idly catch the breeze. That had not been a sensation Revon would like to repeat.
Thankfully the ink-bunny had moved on to other distractions and blue eyes followed them with calculated interest.
Strange as it was to admit, the aurora wasn’t quite sure how to answer the question. She knew what she enjoyed, how she had fun. But that wasn’t an option here, wasn’t what the little dark recesses of herself were itching to do. A finger could not quite be placed on the odd feeling.
That is, until the window smashed with the imperfect harmony of glass shattering then tinkling as the smaller pieces followed their kin.
Revontulet drifted over to the store, leaning over to pick up one of the large shards which lay so forlornly upon the sidewalk. For a moment she turned it over in her hands before dropping it back to the ground and drifting into the store and casting her gaze about. It seemed the other frei was craving destruction on a wider scale, and Ren was clearly without objection to this, but apparently there would need to be a bit more encouragement for the pale creature to join in.
Her sanity was attempting to maintain a moral high ground.
Unfortunately, it could not contend with the bright, full moon above them that made her rune pulse in a sick, slow tempo. The lazy speed made it difficult to detect that it was a problem that went to the frei’s core.
The art shop seemed to glow from within, much in the same way the two frei were. The moon shone bright on the things that glistened and were made to catch the light in interesting ways for interested people. Although there were no people per-say, Ren found herself very interested, and she drifted into the shop without concern for a possible alarm system Lulu might have set off.
Fingers drifted with silent curiosity over the items on the shelves. The wooden men with no faces and the large, white canvases waiting for someone to express themselves upon them.
It was a little corner of the store that finally drew the newborn over, a wall of picture books boasting the artistic vision of those whom had found their humble beginnings in this very store. Many were of the crafted variety, abstract paintings and strange manglings of objects greeted Revon cheerily from the glossy front cover of many of the books. Despite these things, which the girl found only distaste for in general, it was the photography section that drew bright eyes to their pages and she began flipping through a book of beautiful landscapes.
Distantly the aurora monitored the situation behind her, aware that the monster may not be enjoying Ren’s idea of fun so far, despite the conspiratorial grins they had shared earlier. Perhaps she was simply more inclined to encourage the other, or observe as a passive participant. Certainly, Doucette had found it off-putting the way Revontulet could simply watch things. Like a statue which had come to life but was then returning back to a solid state the aurora would settle into a comfortable position and watch and absorb. And absorb she did with a skill that was both useful and concerning. Useful in that Ren was clearly doing well with mental processes, reasoning and deducting exceptionally well. The concerning bit was the way she would watch. As if she could memorize or devour visually what she was witnessing. Doe just hoped her newborn would not turn into a peeping tom or other strange version of a voyeur.
After enjoying her fill of the photography books and deciding that it was a lovely thing to come back to and perhaps learn more about, Ren turned to watch the ink bunny for a moment. Although she had taken quite a while to flip through the book, still the frei waited until she was sure the other had finished whatever it was she was doing. Despite herself, Revon did not comprehend the other’s actions. It mattered very little to her, however.
Drifting through the paint aisle, Revon slowed to a stop, her wings lifting with curiosity at a beautiful jar of blue paint, almost as neon as her eyes. Curiously the girl opened the jar, but wrinkled her nose at the smell. Unacceptable. The texture of it was very similar to the ink, though, she found when she slipped a finger into the substance. Pulling up a large glob of the paint in her hand, Ren stared at it closely before looking up and around for the other.
A grin was the only warning that the ink-monster was going to receive before getting a large splat of paint on her upper arm.

As LuLu entered the art shop, a mouthwatering scent caught her nose. The smell was as bold as ever. There was ink in this shop. She was sure of it. The search did not last long with her senses. The cleanly labeled aisles were also convenient. LuLu nearly fainted at the sight of it.
A whole isle of assorted inks was stretched out on either side. Like a kid in a candy shop, the rabbit could not help herself. There was such a variety of colors, like a tangible rainbow, she could barely decide where to start. LuLu went with what seemed like the best option, the closest jar within arm reach. Within seconds the frei had torn off the lid of a yellow ink vial. She tilted the glass container back and practically hummed with enjoyment when she felt a familiar cool slickness running down her throat. She paused and ran her tongue over her lips lightly. The aftertaste reminded her of something sweet like pineapple. Yet, there was also a bitterness innate to ink. LuLu's rune pulsed with its dusky purple glow to match her quickened heart beat. The excitement of finally finding food again was overtaking her. She had grabbed another bottle before she had even finished the yellow one. She tipped both back above her open maw. Her hastiness caused yellow and orange droplets to dribble from her lips. However, the evidence of her messy eating did not last long as the hues touched the black ink on her skin. First, they mixed into a muddy brown. Soon enough, they were uniform with the rest of her liquid mass.
Contented with eating, LuLu had nearly forgotten about her 'playmate'. She did not even notice when the younger frei sneaked up behind her. The rabbit jumped when she felt something gooey splatter across her left side which almost resembled the familiar slide of ink. She dropped the red vial she was currently eating. It shattered on the ground. It contents sprayed on the white tile to make it look like a murder scene had broken out on aisle four.
LuLu examined her arm. Bright blue streaked on her limb. It would have been quite the mess if not for the tricks the rabbit had at her disposal. The ink coating her swirled and squirmed until the blue color was completely consumed. The frei smirked at her counterpart. She reached across the isle to grab a tube of green face paint. "Two can play that way." Her smirk held steadfast even as she popped open the lid. A gunky stream of paint was squirted at Ren in retaliation.

Blue neon dripped in a slow tempo from her slender fingers, a frown forming on delicate features as the remnants of her destruction were eradicated from the bunny’s arm. Well that was hardly a fair way to play at the game!
Wings flared at the sight of the counter-attack but the aurora was slow moving, an ebbing tide tonight rather than a racing river. The green splattered along one collar bone and freckled her shoulder and along one cheek and jaw-line. Revon straightened as if she’d just been decorated with emeralds. If the other could make the evidence disappear all together then the very least the newborn could do was pretend it wasn’t an offensive mess to be cleaned up. Flicking the last loose bits of blue from her fingers, Ren reached for a vibrant red to squirt back towards the frei.
Quick to follow the red was some more of the same vibrant blue, obviously a favourite for the cool-coloured frei. Perhaps, she thought, if there was more than one attack being launched at once it would be harder for the ink monster to cover the colours in black.
Understandably, the small art store was soon the site of a rather large-scale paint-war and Ren grinned at the carnage that was growing steadily. Paint dribbled in varying sized flecks in the space between them, covering the floor with a dotted spectrum of colour, while the shelves were sometimes the victims of misjudged throws and dodged attacks.
Revontulet made little effort to avoid much of Lulu’s work, but should any of the paints and goos find their target as her hair she was sure to become the most fluid of dancers, ensuring minimal damage to her special locks. Otherwise it was not long before the aurora appeared the loser in a paintball game and she was soon retreating with a light laugh, dashing from the art store with her paint-gloved hands up and chanting “I forfeit, I forefeit,” until the other followed back into the dark streets.

LuLu smirked at Ren. Despite her speed, the aurora still had a grace about her. It made it almost seem like she had intended to be hit all along. The colors were displayed on her pale skin like a decoration. The rabbit reach for her next color: orange.
The ink on the frei's body had trouble absorbing the pigment of Ren's second attack. Blue and red swirled on her chest lazily. They mixed into a soft lavender then deepened into a dark amethyst before darkening into black, it took long enough to nearly make a show out of. LuLu made sure her second attack would hold up to Ren's.
Sure enough, a paint war did break out among the two. There were numerous 'casualties' mostly consisting of shelving and merchandise. Fortunately, neither of them had legs. Otherwise, one would have surely slipped on the slick mess they had created on the floor. Ren was practically a piece of modern art by now. Paint covered her in splatters like a work by Jackson Pollock. On the other hand, LuLu still donned her thick black coat. Every so often, a strip of color would come to the surface as though she had tied a bright ribbon to one of her limbs. Ultimately, its fate was to be eclipsed by black.
LuLu giggled wickedly as she followed Ren into the street. Surrender was on the younger frei's lips. However, the rabbit had one last move up her sleeve. She dove at the other girl. LuLu's hand lightly smacked into Ren's face and dragged across her already paint splotched skin. A gold sheen now covered the aurora's delicate jawline. The rabbit's smile grew broader. She liked this color.
Yet, realization hit and LuLu's grin faltered. Yes, she was fond of this color but for reasons that left her feeling sore inside. It was reminiscent of the golden hued dots that lined her eyes before she had become a monster. Now she was reminded of how much she missed her old appearance. An nagging voice in the back of her mind questioned if she would ever return to normal or if this black coat was her new 'normal'.
Her focus went back to Ren. "I won. You had fun though, yes?," LuLu fluttered her wings as she continued, "Where do you want to have fun next?"

“You cheated,” the frei quipped without sounding petulant, more simply stating a fact that didn’t bother the aurora one way or the other.
Revon’s wings lifted with interest at the sad look that crossed the monster’s features at the gold that now decorated her face. For a moment the colour had made the bunny happy, but now it seemed to upset her. The newborn wasn’t sure what to do about it. Searching within, she found no answers for how to respond to the other’s emotional turmoil and so she decided the best course of action was to say nothing at all.
Nodding her head to the question of fun, Ren’s hair caught the swollen moon’s light and seemed to light up within, a shifting, amorphous collection of blues and greens melting into one another. It didn’t glow in the way it did when she fed, but there was no doubt of where her essence came from and why the aurora was so loathe to accept a direct hit of paint to those locks.
Even now the few speckles of paint that had dotted her hair as casualties in the paint-war were fading from the aurora’s prized feature.
What else was fun to do in this area? Casting her gaze about in a way that was idle but still betrayed her eagerness, the newborn’s eyes fell upon something altogether amazing. It was stunning and beautiful and mysterious. The way it undulated within the confines of its home and glowed within and without. Drawn like a moth to the flame, the frei fluttered across the street to the window of an electrical store.
Lamps dotted the shelves on display but they were cold, dark, dead. The night had swallowed them and only the moon revealed their forms now. But this one had escaped such a fate. Left to a separate plug or simply too enticing to switch off, this exceptional creature lived on, vivacious and warm.
Revontulet pressed her hands to the glass and her breath misted the window as she exhaled in awe. “I want it,” she breathed, eyes glazed over with enchantment.
The lava lamp was a rich, deep blue with green blobs drifting lazily from top to bottom and back again.

LuLu tilted her head at the comment of 'cheating'. The word cheating seemed to hint at some form of intent. However, LuLu did not have too much say in how the ink on her body reacted. Many things were still a mystery to herself, such as when her hand decided to spontaneously detach itself during her scuffle with Cruz. The rabbit did not think her new form's countermeasures could be considered cheating, but Ren could think what she wanted.
The aurora was not the cause of her woes. Therefore, LuLu had not been expecting any sort of consolation from the younger frei. So when none was given it did not phase her. If anything, LuLu was now distracted by a sea made from blue green tresses. Ren's hair looked like moonlight reflected on waves. The paint splattered on her rolling locks disappeared as though being carried away by their ebb and flow. The rabbit became lost in hat tempest until Ren speaking returned her to reality.
"I want it"
LuLu followed an intense gaze towards the brightly lit lava lamp. It appeared a bit dimmer now behind the fog Ren had created on the window. Still, its dual toned glow was radiant and faintly reminded her of the aurora's hair. LuLu smiled softly. Who was the eldest to deny the other frei something she could easily obtain? LuLu had learned in a harsh way that you do not get everything you want. Yet, she could allow this girl to be oblivious of that for a little while longer. After all, this was a night of fun.
This time, LuLu grabbed a display board resting outside the store. The words 'Going out of business sale: everything must go!' were displayed boldly on it. She reared the sign back like a makeshift bat and swung at the front door's glass with the conviction of striking a grand slam. Once again, shards fell from their frame in a similar manner to the art shop.
LuLu stepped through the opening she had made and approached the object of Ren's desires. The lava lamp rested on its display rack like a trophy on its pedestal. The rabbit gingerly unplugged the device. The lamp's glow was suddenly extinguished with a quick flicker and both freis were enveloped in the darkness of the night. Its light may have been gone but its warmth still radiated. LuLu would wait for it to cool before she handed it off to Ren.

Had the two frei gotten into a deeper conversation about the concept of cheating and what constituted cheating and all the myriad gray areas in between, the rabbit would have quickly discovered the aurora’s repetition of the phrase came more from her understanding of interactions as seen in movies as opposed to a genuine concern for the other’s misconduct. There would have been very little wrong, in those blue eyes, of someone taking advantage of a situation or a talent. This would be especially true if she were the person taking the advantage. Unfortunately for this situation the ink remained black as night while Revon dared not take note of her current attire.
Delight spread warm and bright across the moon-kissed features once the older frei’s intentions were realized and the younger of the two eagerly watched for her present to be delivered into waiting hands.
The item deposited, however, was not what had been requested. Frowning at the dim, sluggish liquid within, Ren gave the whole thing a little shake. Confusion replaced the rapt excitement that had only a moment before caused pale wings to flutter in rapid tempo, nearly a blur as they raced each other. Now they lay still, folded upon her back in sullen disagreement with the situation.
“It’s broken.”
Revontulet held out the offensive item to the ink monster. Although the average child would have pouted and attempted to get the item fixed by some means (or replaced, though that didn’t seem to be an option in the otherwise cold display window), the newborn gave the rabbit a look along the lines of accusation. This beautiful thing had been in pristine condition until but a moment after the other had entered the store.
At least the accusation in her eyes ran to the more mild ‘how could you do this to me?’ as opposed to the bitter ‘you’ve killed my lover, prepare to die’. Revon was unhappy, but it was an unhappy that would obviously pass with some simple words or remedies on behalf of the older frei.

LuLu's ears quirked back at Ren's unusual behavior. She watched the girl shake the lamp as though trying to stir it from a slumber. Its contents merely shifted with a weak gurgle. Already its lava was hardening into lazily moving blobs. The device took on two radically different personalities whether it was on or off. One was energetic and demanded attention while the other was distant and aloof. The aurora did not seem all too thrilled with the temperament her 'friend' had decided to choose.
The rabbit accepted the return of the lava lamp but only momentarily. She just need it back long enough to give the young frei a small demonstration, something that would wipe the bitter look off her face and replace it with a smile once again. LuLu was not particularly fond of getting accused. Yet, this problem had a simple enough solution. "No it is not." LuLu chided her counterpart softly while shuffling the lamp between her ink coated hands.
LuLu nestled the lamp back on its shelf before she began the task of locating the end of its cord. Her fingers snaked from its base, inch by inch down its wire, until she had a plug firmly in her grasp. She planted the lamp's double pronged extension back into a socket. With a glorious flash, and not much warning, the lamp's life returned.
LuLu leaned over and placed a portion of the lamp's cord in Ren's hand. A switch now rested in the aurora's pale palm. The eldest made a flicking motion with her thumb. "Sometimes your friend needs to rest. You do not want them getting too tired and end up hurt, right? They will go to sleep when you move that switch," She pointed to the socket, "Or take that end away from the wall." LuLu nodded to Ren as though giving her the okay to try either out.

Understanding of the demonstration spread in a wide, happy smile upon the girl’s lips and her wings lofted to mirror the rise in spirits. Once the ethereal object had been turned back on she floated closer to it, as if the aurora could bathe in its light. With only a few test-clicks of the device in her hand Revon decided to unplug her new friend and held it gingerly in the crook of her arm, oblivious to any temperature discomforts it might have caused others with thinner skin. “Then it will rest,” the frei announced, fingers stroking along one curve with the utmost of tender affections.
Heaven forbid the thing should ever not turn on some day because she had not let it regain its strength! (and heaven forbid it should ever die altogether...)
Flush with happiness, the aurora moved off down the street, eyes sliding between the jewel nestled within thin arms and the shops that marched in single file along each side. Many seemed rather boring, uninteresting, and frankly uninviting. Stores for sports, stores for shoes, stores for music. Some peaked her interest more than others, surely, but her mood found none of them appealing at the moment.
Revontulet drifted to a shop outside one store that finally caught her eye. Curiosity had her head tilting to one side and a few locks of hair slipping over those bright eyes. The aurora didn’t bother to brush them away, too preoccupied with the precious treasure in her arms.
Puppies, the ultimate attention getter for both children and adults alike, slept curled together in a pile of fur that seemed to breathe in and out as one collective group. Not far off, a group of kittens twitched their ears and flicked their tails with lazy, slow happiness.
Everything was calm, why should they not sleep and dream and be happy?
Something tickled at the edges of Ren’s senses, but it was distant and languid and much too different for her to understand or focus on at the moment. Instead, the newborn turned and handed her precious to the bunny frei. Flexing the fingers of her left hand, Revontulet reached back before punching her fist in a neat little hole through the window. The jagged entry wound held no traces of blood, and when the girl removed her hand and shook the debris off herself there appeared to be no wounds.
As if this were an everyday occurrence, the aurora began to pull at the hole until the whole window came down in one very large pane to shatter at their feet (so to speak), causing the recently awakened animals to fall into a fit of hysterics at the noise. The slightly deranged, delighted grin spread across Ren’s lips once more. They didn’t need to be trapped any more.
