Patience and cleverness, Rubati was learning the hard way, were no match for genuine skill and experience. The young oblivionite narrowed her empty eye-sockets at the empty trap that lay below the tree she was perched in. The trap, which was significantly the worse for wear, had been intended for a ysali dragon. Ru had been so absolutely convinced that her first dragon battle would be simple. She would set the trap, she would wait for the dragon to come along, it would fall for her clever ruse and she would slip down from the tree and dispatch it swiftly and cleanly.
Sadly for Ru, this had been far from the case. The ysali dragon had certainly taken the bait and gotten snared by the trap set by Rubati. But it had all gone to hell in a handbasket from there. Ru had not even had the opportunity to attempt to kill the dragon. In its anger it had torn her trap apart, easily escaping the snare, and flown off in a snit while Ru had crouched in the branches of a tree high above the drama that was playing out below her.
"Damn damn double-damn." The girl muttered to herself, stroking the gris-gris she wore around her neck, courtesy of her mother. She would bring home no prizes today, nothing but a lesson learned and heightened determination.
