Delta hadn't left his mother's side since Demoni beat him to near-death. But today was different. Something was calling him, tugging at his soul. He'd heard his grandmother speak of Bonding and Calls. Was that what this was? It wasn't long before he was flying towards the source of this new sensation, desperate to make that wonderful connection. After Iota left, things just... weren't the same. Even spending time with Jeralyn didn't feel the same anymore, not with Plouton sulking around alone. Maybe... this could make things better. It couldn't fix his inability to stop Iota, but... maybe it could make home life feel a little less wrong.

Derrik had just set up camp south of the king's castle lands and was sitting beside his fire, some of his cronies waiting around with him as they warmed up on the chilly evening. A bottle was being passed around, stolen artifacts were being traded, money was being counted, and crude jokes were being told. A wicked grin was set upon Derrik's face as he picked at his fingernails, cleaning from underneath them as he listened to the surrounding areas. Their horses were tied to a line between two trees to keep them from running off, and everything was settled for the night.
Derrik was getting closer to finding that blasted slave, and those two twins that had gotten away too. He was too well known a slave dealer to have those three out of his grasp. He would find them, and if he couldn't break them, he would kill them. It was the only way you could ever make progress around here, atleast... until he got rid of the king too.

Delta approached the camp without fear inhibiting him; unfortunately, it seemed Demoni's attack had ruined his sense of danger. Either that, or the Call was too strong to ignore, even for danger's sake. He ignored the humans mulling around and staring at him; he walked straight up to Derrik, red eyes shining with that incorruptible kindness that Demoni had despised.

Derrik looked up from his cleaning to see a little teal foal standing before him. He gave a grin and sat up. "Lookie here boys. Looks like we got ourselves a recruit!" He laughed viciously as he studied the colt. It was obviously an azrein, for normal horses did not have wings or that unusual coloring. He rolled his eyes and stood up, taking his whip and dagger with him as he did so. "What brings you to these parts, young one?" He said in his most charming tone.

Delta's tail swished behind him happily as he looked up at the man. At his question, he tilted his head, puzzled. "Didn't you Call me?" It didn't seem to be any of these others. Sure enough, as if entranced, the words of Bonding began tumbling from his mouth. It was a strange sensation, as if his soul was reaching out towards this human's. Magical seemed the best word to describe it; he felt spellbound by the ritual he somehow knew how to perform.

Derrik winced at the words of a Call. Who was this blasted foal to Choose anybody? Especially Derrik. And why would anyone what a Chosen anyways? Always telling you what to do, and telling you you're wrong. No. It wasn't for him. He growled as he unfurled the whip and let it ring across the colt's back. "Stop, you blasted idiot and get the hell away from here before I kill you." He snarled, striking out at the foal again.

Being spellbound was the last thing Delta wanted to be anymore. He yelped as he was whipped, stumbling backwards, but he couldn't stop the words from trying to escape his mouth again. Fear welled up inside him, both because of the whip and some sort of instinctive knowledge as to what would happen if this Bond was rejected. Dangerous. Bonding was dangerous. Offering up his soul to a man that clearly didn't want it... and being unable to keep himself from continuing to try.

Derrik continued hitting at the foal with all his might until the foal finally collapsed, stopping the words from coming out of his mouth forever. Derrik spit at the ground near the foal's face and kicked dirt at the foal before turning to his men. "Grab your stuff.. We're leaving." He growled out, spinning around and grabbing his pack before heading to his horse and jumping astride the beast that was terrified of its master.

Delta couldn't move, couldn't comprehend what was going on anymore. That was, until, he heard a somewhat familiar voice. But it was so full of rage, it was hard to tell if it was someone he knew or not...
"What the hell did you do to my baby, you son of a b***h?!"
Her baby? His mother. That was his mother's voice. What was she doing here?
Beta was indeed there. When she noticed that Delta was gone, she'd instantly gone to look for him. She'd spotted him flying, but her calls hadn't reached his ears. So she'd followed him. And found him horribly attacked. An overwhelming amount of emotion surged through her, angry words dropping from her mouth without a thought. The one with the whip hurt her baby. She was going to make him regret it.
Other men tried to stop her, but she wasn't going to be taken down by the likes of them; Haides had trained her well. She was going to rip that horrible human to bits!

Derrik held up his hand from the top of his horse as the angry female approached. So this must be the mother. He motioned for the others to mount up while he regarded the female expressionlessly. "Keep your colt under control next time." He growled out, kicking at his steed to get a move on, lashing out with the whip one last time before heading out, leading his troupe away. He knew the mare wouldn't leave her horribly injured son behind just to give chase to him.

Oh, Beta wanted to tear him apart. But he got away, and she had her son to take care of. She nudged him gently, just to make sure he was still alive in there. He was, but how was she going to get him to help...? She couldn't move him like this. If the one whip lash stinging her own side was any indication, her poor son was in a lot of pain...
The mare looked around frantically. Maybe she'd get lucky and there'd be an Azrien out on patrol or something nearby...

Aila, Danny, Charli and Maera were on their way back to Aila's farm. She was well rested, even if her legs were sore. That was when she saw the herd of men leaving at a breakneck pace astride their horses. An angry whinny alerted her of trouble, and Aila and Maera picked up speed to see what was wrong.
When they got their, the seriously injured foal on the ground and the worried mother, whom Aila recognized as Beta, were all that were around. She jumped off of Maera's back, ignoring the jolt of pain as she rain to Beta's side. "Beta! What happened?" She hurried and asked as she bent over Delta and began looking over his injuries. he had been brutally whipped, and anger began to fill Aila's heart. Who could do this?

Beta was doing her best not to cry as she responded. "One of the men that just left kept whipping him..." The tears escaped as she continued. "I think he was trying to Bond..."
Danny grimaced. How horrible... While Aila treated the foal, the Skh'et turned to the frantic mother. "Easy, there... It's going to be alright," she soothed, lightly rubbing the mare's nose. Their eyes met and almost instantly she felt the same sensation that she'd gotten when she Bonded with Charli. She smiled and lightly pressed her forehead to Beta's muzzle. "It's alright. Aila's going to take good care of him."
Beta's eyes closed, tears of mixed emotions streaming down her face. The words that Delta had tried so hard to say flowed from her own mouth now and were immediately accepted. Her worries were swallowed up by Danny's comforting presence and reassurance. Her son was in good hands... he'd be alright. He had to be...

Aila immediately stripped off her shirt, and began tearing it into strips to bind Delta's body up. She was quickly running out of clothes...
Her mouth set in a firm line as she worked at the worst parts, not even noticing the Bond between Beta and Danny as she did so. Finally, getting the most she could, she stood, cradling the little colt in her arms, finding that he was heavier and bulkier than she first thought, thanks to his wings.
She grunted and nodded at the others. "Maera, run to Dea's place and warn her of our coming. Tell her to get hot water and clean rags ready, along with a sewing needle and some string. Charli, Danny, Beta, you guys should go too. Make sure Beta gets her mom for support and keep Rogan and Var barred inside the barn. We don't need them going out." She ordered before beginning to walk to Dea's place which wasn't too far away.

Danny nodded, swinging herself onto Beta's back, grabbing fistfuls of the mare's mane so that she wouldn't fly off when the agitated mother took off. The Skh'et focused on just holding on and trying to keep the poor girl calm as they headed back towards Dea's with the two draft Azrien. Once there, she slid off of Beta's back and walked with her to find Serenity.
