[This is a rp between Buffy_the_Bloody's Hadyn and KasaiLoki's Kikope]

The sky had been darkening for what felt like hours. The sounds of thunder rolling through the black clouds that were dotting the sky. They had known it was going to rain, much to the dislike of Kikope. She found he liked to be clean, and where there was rain, mud was sure to follow. She, however, enjoyed being dirty. The idea of rain and mud was that of Christmas to a small child. She turned her head, fire colored eyes gleaming as she looked at him deviously.

"Tut tut.. Looks like rain." She said, and grinned. She waited for his reaction, though she knew he had been expecting the rain about as long as she had. The thunder had been pretty obvious for the last hour or so. But the sky had held off on the waterworks... Until now.

She felt the first droplet hit her nose, and looked up, where a few other drip drops were falling from the sky.

Although his eyes weren’t the best, he could tell by the sudden drop of light for the last couple of hours that a storm was going. Not to mention the small rumbles of thunder that were echoing across the plains. He groaned inwardly, Kikope did not like that one bet.

“Great…” the male sighed, wanting to pick up the pace of movement before a sudden downpour hit.

Unfortunately he wouldn’t get too far. As soon as the first droplet hit body he froze. “We…should hurry?” he said quietly, feeling the drops getting heavier, and beginning to soak him. His white pelt was becoming a dark gray, although the color went unbeknownst to him.

That was when he should have been happy he had a companion like Hadyn. She may like rain, but she was considerate. Her eyes immediately scanned the treeline for shelter. Her pace was quick, for him, and she didn't take her eyes off of the search for a shelter.. It didn't take long before she saw the hole in the cliff. It looked like a hyena's den, since it was big enough to house a few of them.. But from the old scents, it was abandoned. She smiled, how lucky was she?

"You are going to love me." She said with a chuckle, and looked behind her. Her body soaked, her fire like mane fluff sticking to her face, and she shook her head to let the locks fly away from her eyes.

"If you follow me, we can get out of the rain." She knew he had a hard time seeing. But he seemed like he followed her voice easily through their travels. She took off towards the cliff base, letting her voice fill the air so he could follow her.

"Come along, Mr. Clean! When we get there, you will be free from the clutches of the evil water." She said, and started laughing again.

Kikope couldn’t help but snort at the female. Part of him would have loved her just a tad more if they had avoided the rainstorm all together now! But beggars couldn’t be choosers, and the poor-sighted lion found himself following the voice of the dark pelted lioness.

At least until a loud crash of thunder distorted the sound.

Normally when his hearing failed, his sense of smell would take over. Too bad water was an evil enemy for scents.
“H…hadyn?” He squinted his eyes, looking for any bit of the lioness. Her black body was meshing well with the darkening skies.

The rain was beginning to get heavier now. He stepped forward, feeling the ground beginning to soften with the extra weight of the water. Mud, just what he always loved.

She had made it into the stone hole, before chuckling and looking around her. She did not see Kikope, and for a moment, her features looked confused. Until she found herself calling out.
"Kikope?" She called out, though her voice didn't carry very well with the thunder booming outside. She looked out of the cave, but the rain that was coming down like torrential downpour was making her own vision rather blurry. Though she knew he was okay, because he simply had to be.. She found herself worried. Which was probably the first time she had ever felt that way in her entire life.

"Kikope!" She called out again, leaving the safety of the cave and braving the elements again. The rain was cold, soaking her to the bone.

"If you don't get here right now, you are in so much trouble!" She called out, a scowl on her face. Then she saw the white figure, only his paws were standing in a huge puddle of mud. She would have laughed, had she not been worried about him only moments before. Rushing to him, her paws squished in the mud.

"You had me worried, you big lug." She said, pushing him gently with a paw. Before remembering she had mud all over them.. Oh the irony.

When living in the swamplands, Kikope had experienced the sudden onslaught of a rainstorm. However, in the swamplands, they had the cover of trees to protect the pride for the most part. Most of the water would run down into the more marshier portions of the land (which was basically the whole pride), but at least the trees would take away the pelting drops.

His ears strained to hear her, hearing a vague calling of what sounded like his name against the drops. Cursed rainstorms, he thought to himself. Taking another step in the squishy brown mud, he gasped slightly at the push.

“T..there you are,” he chattered, relaxing, or trying too. He didn’t feel the mud from her paws on his pelt. On any normal day he’d probably freak out about it. “I..can’t hear you that well,” he all but shouted, the thunder crashing above, startling him. How he wished he was if the safety of his mother’s den right now, and not on this blasted quest!

"C'mon," She yelled over the pouring rain. She went to move forward, and a flash of lightning made her cry out in surprise. Normally things didn't scare her, however.. startling was a completely different feeling. She looked at him, her eyes taking in the sight of the soaken rat-lion in. The poor guy, she had never had any trouble with his lack of vision before. So now she was left trying to figure out how to get him to safety. Where they could both dry off, and stick together to keep warm.

She leaned over, biting him gently, but pulling his mane with her teeth in the direction of the cave.
"Ih'll 'elp 'ou." She said, pulling and leading him towards the stone wall.

"Aw-most 'ere." She said, and her eyes were determined. She was proud of herself, and she was proud that she could be relied on when someone needed her. Especially Kikope. He had turned into a really good friend over the last few days.

He felt the pressure of his mane being pulled, and the mumbling of a voice. Instinctively he followed, stepping through the rain in the direction of every tug. He could feel the ground going from the slick muck to hardening stone, and then the feeling of rain ceased.

The surroundings were still dark, and the sounds of rain hitting stone and rumbling of thunder still echoed outside, but the two lions in the cave remained safe from the rain. They were still soaked, and dripping on the once dry floor, but they were no longer in the brutal storm.

“Sorry about that,” he apologized, gazing at the ground. Once again he found his sight becoming a burden to him. And now he was burdening Hadyn! He frowned, trying to focus on a rather dark spot on the ground (the water accumulating on the floor in a puddle).

Once they were safe in the shelter she had found, she released her hold on his mane. She wasn't sure if she had hurt him, but she didn't think she had. He was a tough guy, even if he was a bit of a wimp when it came to being dirty. She figured she'd not tell him about her pawprint in mud on the side of his shoulder.. He'd see it soon enough. She shook the water off herself, flinging it around the cave (and probably Kikope too.)

"Don't be sorry. That storm is a big one. I think it's going to last awhile." She said, her eyes going to the outside of the den where the sound of the rain rolling off the stone was matched only by the thunder that announced it's presence every few moments. She hadn't thought of him as a burden, and she never tolerated such talk from him. Sometimes he found himself feeling low, and she brought him out of it. Or at least, she'd try until he forgot why he was feeling sad in the first place.

"We got lucky with this place."

So they would be here for a while. Kikope was okay with that. If it meant staying out of the rain and mud that was. The cave itself wasn’t the biggest, but they weren’t cramped. Both lions would be able to venture a little deeper into the old den to avoid any water that may have decided to try and sneak in, and to further drown out the sounds of the storm.

“Hadyn saves the day~” he cheered quietly, shaking his own body to rid the excess water. He half expected his mane to try poofing, but it didn’t.

“What is this place anyways?” Other than a den that was. “Or…where is this place?” A den in the middle of what Kikope thought was just a plain was something out of the ordinary.

She smiled when he said she saved the day, and when he shook the water off, she shielded her face with a paw. She chuckled, and stretched herself out, before lying on her belly, and allowing herself to get comfortable. They'd be here for a while, they might as well be comfortable. She was close to him in proximity, keeping his body heat close so that she could stay warm too. And hey, her body heat was probably helping too.

"From the smell of it, I'd say Hyenas.." She answered, turning her eyes to see him. "Though it just smells like dirty dog.. So maybe wild dogs? Who knows. Been abandoned for awhile though." She said, her eyes traveling to the scatters of old bones she had found. They were old, and yellowed.. They had belonged to something a long, long time ago.

Hyenas? Wild dogs? Kikope held in a snort. His pride had taught him about other species that roamed the lands. Although they weren’t ones to technically intermingle, and held a rather distaste for these particular creatures. Maybe all the stories passing rogues had explained to him, or the fact that they were scavengers always looking and trying to steal a free meal. Whatever the reason…

Kikope felt the lioness shift to the ground, deciding to follow suit. There was no reason to stay standing while they were here. He shifted closer to Hadyn, glad that the rain no longer was blocking out his sense of smell. He leaned over to the female, given her neck a brief lick, his way of saying thank you by trying to help her dry off more quickly.

“This is some adventure, huh?” he chuckled slightly. Indeed it was proving to be one.

When he licked her neck, she nuzzled her head into his own. She was comfortable with him. She may not understand feelings of love, or anything like that. But she knew he was a true friend, and they had become pretty inseperable. She liked to say she was his eyes, and who needed eyes when two heads were better than one?

"An unexpected one even. Those are the best kind." She chuckled herself, and yawned. It had been a long day for the two. His warmth, and comfort, made her feel sleepy, and she purred a little.

"We should probably get some rest." Normally she hated resting, but they had nothing better to do, and they would just have to pick back up and head out once it stopped. It was probably wise to use this chance.

She leaned her head over his paws, flipping to her side, and using his paws as a pillow of sorts.

Kikope couldn’t help but nod in agreement. After all the adrenaline was beginning to fade, he found sleep beginning to conquer his senses.

“Hopefully the rain will stop by morning,” not that he didn’t enjoy the moment right now.

The feeling of her head on his paws was the moment his own purrs began to mingle with her. With a small yawn, the male rested his head near her own. He whispered a “Good night, Hadyn,” before he was out like a light.
