Sasha had taken to carrying a knife she'd stolen from the cafeteria. It wasn't much, but it was something, and just having the sharp paring knife in her jacket pocket made her feel marginally better. An act of desperation, and she knew it. She wasn't entirely sure what she'd do with it, or if she'd even need it - but until she made her way through a few of the training courses the cheaply made plastic-handled weapon would have to do.

She spent most of her time split between the labs and the beach - which was where she currently sat in jogging shorts and a tank top. The incoming waves licked at her feet as she sat in the sand, knees drawn up, arms crossed atop them. Her trainee jacket was folded and rested at her hip.

Sasha looked unwell. Gaunt, exhausted, bordering on unkempt. Her eyes were open and glassy as she stared out at the roiling sea.

Jerry was feeling numb, which wasn't unusual. His arm was better but not a hundred percent just yet. It was edging close to a week since he had practiced his guitar- he was fairly certain this was the longest he had ever gone without any sort of musical practice, and he was fairly sure he was going to go insane as a result.

Roar insisted that a good walk would help clear his head.

Rep had transferred. Sun Division felt empty, a large ginger hole left in it that Jerry couldn't help but feel like was partially his fault.

His boots sank in the sand, and he paused to carefully take them off and sling them by the laces over his shoulder.

There was a figure up ahead, a familiar one, and for a moment he considered his options. He wasn't feeling very social. But the closer he drifted, the more he could see the uncharacteristically exhausted expression on her face.

"Y-you're... you're back," He finally murmured once close enough for his voice to carry over the wind and waves.

Sasha didn't realize that Jerry had approached her until he spoke, and even then she barely heard his voice over the soothing white noise that the sea produced.

"A few days now," she started softly, glancing up at him. Sasha didn't invite him to sit next to her - she wasn't sure if she felt like company, herself - but she didn't use scathing words to send him running.

"What're you doing here?" Her voice sounded alien to her own ears - it lacked that cool composure that she'd adapted, leaving her to sound childlike and breathless.

"Walkin'," Jerry said simply, approaching to stand beside her. "Thinkin'. You?"

"Wondering what would happen if I just walked into the ocean and disappeared."

He sat heavily in the sand beside her. "I think about that a lot too."

After a moment he added, "About me I mean. Not about if you walked- never mind."

"I know."

She dug her toes into the sand, shifting her shoes and jacket back a fair distance so they didn't get wet.

"I don't know what to do anymore."

"I am the wrong person to ask that, ahahaha..." he cleared his throat as he glanced sideways at her. He bit his lip. "So, um, I guess your trip didn't go well?"

She certainly didn't look like she had had a very relaxing vacation.

His words caused her entire expression to crumple, and she buried her face in her folded arms.

"I don't.. if I tell you, Jerry," her voice cracked.

"I c-can trust you, can't I? E-even after everything.. I can, right?"

Jerry froze for a moment, brows knit as he debated the proper etiquette for that situation. He settled for a middle ground that involved shifting a little bit closer in the sand, and letting his sincerity take over.

She had hurt him, but he understood. The sight of the break in what had become a scaled and venomous exterior alarmed him.

"Of course."

He still loved her, all the same.

"I lost Nona."

It shattered something inside of her, just saying the words.

"You're the only person aside f-from Wash that knows. I.. I can't let anyone else know."

She shook her head and tensed up, turning to watch him. Her eyes felt damp, but Sasha didn't have the energy to cry.

"It was a-all so awful, Jerry. It was just so awful, everything that happened."

The selfish part of him, the part that huddled and festered in the back of his mind, often edged on by Roar's taunting was lost in her face. It was difficult to focus- it was like seeing the face of someone long thought dead.

After a few seconds for the rest of the world to pull back into audible focus, he blinked as her words were deciphered by the communication centers of his brain.

"You... you what?" He breathed. "What... w-what do you mean, lost?"

Her face crumpled as she bit back a sob, once more burying her face in her arms. It hurt to even think about it let alone talk about it.

Sasha curled in on herself, and a long time passed before she spoke again.

"Someone s-s-stole her from me," Sasha stuttered, forcing the words out. It wasn't the best start to the story, so Sasha backpedaled.

"The h-house is.. the castle, where the doctor sent me, it's p-possessed - it's got to be, the shadows, and the ghost."

She sat up and pressed her hands to her face.

"Lost doesn't mean... d-destroyed," He managed, but as her broken face vanished behind her arms again, he couldn't help himself, gently putting a hand on her shoulder.

A house... or castle? H had sent her into some sort of Shadow Nest.

His expression hardened, brows knit behind his curtain of hair and glasses. H sent her somewhere that dangerous? A man like that knows what he's sending his pawns into. "Was... anyone with you? Did it get their's too?" it was a potentially sore spot- she hadn't said anything about being a lone survivor. Yet.

Sasha didn't pull away from his touch. It was comforting to know that someone was there with her, someone who didn't want to hurt her despite the terrible things she'd said and done to him.

"I was alone," she replied dully, "but it was b-because I asked to be sent alone."

Oh, how humbling it had been. Humbling and terrible and she was feeling just as lost as she'd been when she'd first come to the island. The silence in her mind was overpowering, demoralizing, and a constant reminder that she was not only a failure, but that she'd failed her weapon.

"Some... s-someone else died."
