Spring had been and always would be the best season for oggling flowers. Aventine might have been the sort to enjoy guns and motorcycles, but she still loved the flowers—and the park was the perfect place to take a midnight stroll.

At first, everything was going fine. The city had spared no expense when it came to the park's upkeep, and these Aventine was going to make the best of the sight while the flowers were still there. And if the sight wasn't enough, the smell!

…And then the hefty dose of a Negaverse Aura, just to spice things up.

She hadn't intended to head straight towards it, but her feet had chosen the path for her. Besides—she couldn’t spend all evening just looking at the flora. She had to actually work one of these days. No matter how repulsive the concept was.

Even as she drifted closer, she was reminded of her last encounter with anyone chaos oriented, and even though she could tell the difference between the aura of a Dark Mirror Senshi and a Negaverse Agent, it brought her little relief to know that this was not the man she'd encountered the other day.

He was still trouble. And it was still her duty to stop it.

She was a Squire—stronger than him, in that aspect. But a Dark Mirror a rank beneath her had still left her in a messy state. She had underestimated him—given him the benefit of the doubt.

This time, things were going to be different. This time she wasn't going to make the same mistake.

The park would naturally be one of Serpentine's hunting grounds. Spring in Destiny City was his favorite time of year. New flowers blossoming and leaves stretchiing towards the not-yet-scorchingly-hot sun or at night, as it was now, pearling with humidity plucked from the air. He could enjoy himself as he worked. Not to mention the tactical advantages of hiding places from which to grab unsuspecting victims or pounce his enemies.

He felt the aura sooner than he saw its bearer, and he stood waiting for her to approach. Pink and gold... much like the first he had ever fought, though clearly not her. Likely a Knight, then. The lieutenant sneered, his arms folded across his chest. The latest orders had been to treat these as potential allies. The rainbow-haired man thought it a waste of time--at least, for himself. Let Infiltration woo and convert.

Still, he was willing to do as he was commanded. If she refused--as he truly expected--then there was still time to fight. His voice was cold and crisp, a contrast to the warm humidity around them, "You are?"

While Aventine had been expecting the male any second now, she still jumped a bit when she saw him. As if struggling to regain an imposing presence, she was a little more callous in her dialogue. "None of your business," she snapped, though amended a second later, "Aventine, Squire of Venus. Who are you and what are you doing here?"

She certainly wasn't using her ladylike charm to make an introduction, but with how the Negaverse had been recently? What motivation did she have to play nice?

She'd rather get this done with as quickly as possible—shoo the lieutenant away before he had time to cause anymore trouble than he probably already had. There probably wasn't even any hope of saving them; she had tried to be idealistic, and it just hadn't worked. She had spent too many nights nursing bruises and scrapes, and she was going to take advantage of her strength now and hopefully scare this guy off before he got any stronger.

Sorry short reply is short. =< Krishna's an untalkative jerk.

Lady-like charm would not have served Aventine well in any case. Calculating gold eyes took her in as her opponent listened. Squire. A rank with which he was not overly familiar, but Serpentine had enough of a basic education to know of its connection to Knighthood. He had enough experience, now, to know that his opponent was stronger than the pink-haired page he had fought long ago.

The lieutenant did not give his name or his rank. Instead, he presented an ultimatum. "If you surrender, you will be spared." He did not waste words on what the alternative would be. He felt fairly certain she would know. One hand moved to rest at his hip, near the rubber snake that rested in his sash.

Aventine's brows arched in surprise. "Surrender?" Spared?

Who did this guy think he was?

Her eyes briefly flicked to his hand; she saw movement though didn't identify it as hostile so didn't take the initiative and attack. "All right. Assume I don't want any trouble, and that I don't want to duke it out with you. What happens if I do surrender?"

It was a valid question—and one she genuinely wanted to know the answer to, even if she didn't have the faintest intention of ever surrendering. Plus, there was no harm in buying a little extra time; she didn't imagine she was going to get out of this without a fight.

This was the problem with talking... it only ever led to more talking! Serpentine rubbed the ridge of his nose with his free hand, as though trying to fight back a headache. He had the patience to listen to Aventine and to answer her questions... but what was the point? Surely he would just end up having to fight her all the same? Where was Buddingtonite when you needed him? All the same, it seemed he would have to indulge her a bit longer.

"If you surrender, you may join our ranks." The statement was as concise and precise as the lieutenant could make the words. Removing the hand from his face, he simultaneously used the other to pull the snake from his sash. "If you refuse, you will fall. The choice is yours."

Some part of him truly hoped that she would not have to be convinced to engage in a fight. Having to track down a member of Infiltration Branch to help with the corruption would mean having to admit to a type of failure to which Serpentine was not ready to admit.

She had a choice. She knew what the right one was.

Corruption wasn't in her game plan, and joining the ranks of the Negaverse didn't exactly sound like it was a good perk. She didn't want to turn into some sociopathic drone. Her eyes drifted again to the snake the lieutenant was brandishing. "No offense but that, ah. That isn't exactly all that intimidating."

Not that her bottle was any better, but at least she knew she could whack someone with it. She presented it, fingers lightly gliding over the cool glass. She was still getting used to the new form. "You might want to work on your pitch a bit. I don't think you really sold it to me. For now, I'm going to have to take that offer and tell you to shove it up your a**, buddy. Sorry," she said, though it wasn't really a sincere apology. "Which I guess brings me back to the reason I came over here, anyway. You oughta drop that disguise and head home. I don't want you causing any trouble on my streets. So go on and get out of here before this gets messy."

Serpentine listened to the squire's words with a sneer. He had not expected her to listen, and if she expected to be wooed fruther, she would just have to wait for a member of Infiltration to find hier. Her refusal meant he did not need to further engage her with chatter. Finally, he was cleared to strike.

Her insult to his weapon only flared his aggression. While the lieutenant still felt he deserved something more effective than this...trinket, he took great pride in how he had adapted to using it. Perhaps Aventine would have a different opinion if the rubber tightened around her throat... but for now, he threw it at her in hopes of creating a distraction.

The tactic had worked well enough in the past. Weapon thrown, the rainbow-haired man followed up with a kick.

The little toy snake might not have gotten Aventine's attention had it not looked so real while wiggling through the air. She hadn't had time to debate whether or not she wanted to deal with it landing in her, so with an indignant squeal of distress, she slapped the toy out of the air just before it would have hit her.

It would have been better if she'd just risked it; the kick was far more painful than a little plastic slap. She Grunted in discomfort as the kick pushed her back a good few feet. Black spots flecked on the outskirts of her vision, though she had taken harder blows in her rugby games. Not that this lieutenant wasn't quickly proving himself to be a worthwhile opponent, but she couldn’t risk losing to him. She might not have been out to kill him, but the Negaverse?

She wouldn't put it past them to be out for the kill.

"Rude!" the squire exclaimed, hand quickly going to cover the area where he had made contact. She rubbed it, as though such would dispel the pain and calm her heart. As he had thrown his weapon, she was determined to match him in every way—and that included throwing her own. Without charging or making an effort to make physical contact with him, she hurled her own weapon. "You don't want to mess with me! I will mess you up!"

…Just as soon as she caught her breath.

Aventine was not the only one who would need to catch her breath. Serpentine was content with the nice, solid feel of his kick, and he tensed at first when he saw her pull a weapon. Then he was merely amused. The first Knight he had fought had a mere hair pin, and the initial appearance of the perfume bottle had made him scoff. What was it with these pink clad women and their froo-froo, useless weapons?

Then the glass tumbler had aimed with unerring accuracy to crash into the ground right in front of him. Shards of glass nicked his hands as he immediately went to protect his face, and his hisses of pain soon dissolved into coughing. The rose perfume surrounded him, the scent clogging his nose, his throat, burning his eyes.

Through the tears, he glared at Aventine... and shook his head when he felt a strange emotion curling in his belly. Had she always been this... dazzling? Had her eyes always been leaves speckled with dew, her hair gleaming amber? Had he been the type to want a woman on his arm, at this moment he felt he would have the perfect one before him. Buddingtonite's constant wolf whistles, cat calls, and all around sexual harassment of both sexes must of have been rubbing off on him. If only she were a man...

Then at least the choking might be worth while.

In that instant, Aventine looked more worried than anything. At the core of it all, she had meant only to disrupt the lieutenant, maybe chase him away—not slice and asphyxiate him! She hesitated, torn between running or getting in an extra kick while he was distracted.

She couldn't, though, and a disturbing wave of guilt washed over her. What if this guy had asthma and needed to be rushed to the hospital? Barely, Aventine kept down the groan that tried to crawl from her lips. "—Hey," she said hesitantly, waving her hand in front of her face to dispel the overpowering aroma of her perfume. "Are you okay? Do you need me to help you sit down?"

He had such a strange look in his eye; she was worried that the perfume had mottled his brain, and she wasn’t sure she could forgive herself if this guy was slipping onto—what was it? Asthmatic coma? Or was that diabetes? Is that what pre-coma looked like? Or was he just in love with her perfume?

Serpentine was acutely aware that she was speaking to him. While he would normally brush off her words as unimportant, currently they seemed as important as a doctor explaining a life-saving procedure. His gaze fixated on the perfect curve of her lips, and as was his wont, he observed in silence.

It was only when Aventine began to fan away those thick fumes that some form of clarity began to occur. Some of her luster dimmed immediately. His hand shot out quickly, attempting to catch hold of one of the slim wrists he could still not help but admire.

When he spoke, the words were rougher than normally emerged from his throat, "What... is it?"

Aventine's eyes shot from the lieutenant's face to her wrist. What…what is what?" she asked, swallowing the lump in her throat. She attempted an experimental tug, to try and determine how tight of a grip he had on her. He was officially creeping her out—and if this was some strange tactic to totally screw with her mind, it was massively working.

The look in his eyes didn't seem particularly menacing, but maybe what scared her the most was how quickly he had changed his mood. Not that him trying to kill her was worse!

But at least that was to be expected. This…how was she supposed to react to this?

What was supposed to be a demand that he release her turned into an awkward laugh as she tugged at her wrist again. Hastily she looked over her shoulder, trying to gauge how far she had to run before she reached some sort of safety. When she looked back at him, her face was red.

Sorry it took a million years.

"THIS," Serpentine all but snarled his grip never loosening. Did he truly have to explain? Could she not feel it? Maybe she could, else why was her face as red as it was now? The candy-cotten clouds of pearl pink were all the looser now, and clarity began to take hold. Her beauty was... fair. But she was an enemy. His enemy.

And she had made a fool out of him. He finally released her wrist, but it was only to engaged in battle. Wounded pride caused him to close the space between them with a head butt.

The sudden contact started Aventine, who stumbled back breathlessly. His head had slammed into her chest while she had still been distracted by his strange personality.

Concern faded quickly and she growled. "Oh, you are an a*****e!" Taking advantage of the closeness of the two, she planted her hands on the Negaverser's shoulders and shoved backwards, hoping to put him off balance for long enough to make an escape. She didn't think this little battle was going to go anywhere, and she had her own wounded pride to tend to.

Not to mention her aching chest.
