While running on the beach, Tuck came to the decision that he was going to make a point of meeting everyone who called his division home. It was important to the soldier to make sure that everyone in his division knew that he was the kind of guy that they could call on if they needed him, and that he wasn't the type of guy to back down from a challenge.

After taking a quick shower following his run, Tuck jogged over to the cafeteria for breakfast. He gave the mess hall a quick scan as he entered, moving over to the slop. Cramming as much food as he could onto his plate Tuck grabbed a mug for coffee and promptly filled it before turning around once more.

Making his way to a nearly-vacant table, Tuck gestured with his chin since his hands were full.

"This seat taken, man?"

Crispin had been idly chewing on a piece of toast that - well, he wasn't really sure it was toast anymore. It had been burnt to a crisp, and was more like eating charcoal with jam on it. Thank god for Smuckers. Shaiming was vocal with his distaste for the cuisine; however, Crispin was a college-age male. Enough said.

He was surprised, though, when somebody came up next to him. "Nope, go ahead," he said, swallowing his most recent bite. "Looking for conversation, or just the chair?" Not everyone liked to be talked to. He'd figured that one out already, at least.

Tuck enthusiastically took the seat he'd previously indicated, his own plate of muck jiggling suspiciously as he set it down. He flashed a smile before he took hold of his fork.

"Hell, why not both," the Moon chuckled loudly, shoveling a bite of food into his mouth. It was disgusting, but it was nourishment, and Tuck was used to MREs that had the texture of cardboard and tasted like s**t. He chewed and swallowed before setting his fork down so that he could reach across the table for an amicable handshake.

"Tuck Ross. Moon."

"Crispin Ceineros, also Moon," he replied, surprised but pleased to find someone else in his division. He warmly returned the handshake. "And new as hell, unfortunately. At least I've got Shaiming along for the ride." The totem form of his weapon was tucked in his coat pocket, and he pulled it out for a moment, displaying the round stone 'gem' with the dragon wound around it for Tuck to see.

Tuck gave Crispin a broad grin as he broke the handshake, eyebrows lifting. "I'm pretty damn new, m'self," he mashed his fork around on his plate, taking a bite before leaning in to look at the stone gem that Crispin presented him with.

Swallowing, Tuck brought a beefy fist forward, indicating the runed ring that he wore on his middle finger.

"Herryk's my weapon. Big a** axe. I mean, not as big as some, I'm sure, but he gets the job done. What's ah.. Shaiming? Like, as a weapon, I mean."
PostPosted: Tue May 14, 2013 8:48 pm

"You get to wear yours? Lucky you," Crispin said, wryly; Shaiming made a noise like hmph inside his mind, and he smiled fondly.

"And he's a dragon, and a... uh. Guan... dao?" His pronunciation was awkward; it was clear that he had no experience whatsoever in speaking Chinese. "Which is basically a glaive. Fancy spear," he added, for good measure. "And you're the second person I've met with an axe. Huh." Was it a common thing for monsters to become?

"A dragon, huh? Herryk's a draugr. I guess that's fancy for some giant undead guy. Taller'n I am, bigger too. You take your weapon into one of them golems yet? See what he really looks like? Pretty neat."

Tuck took a moment to shovel another forkful of slop into his mouth.
PostPosted: Tue May 14, 2013 9:17 pm

"Oh, wow, a draugr? Like in Skyrim! Neat." Crispin flashed Tuck a bright smile. "And no - wait, golems? For weapons? I heard about the ones for us, to take into Halloween and all that, though I haven't tried it myself..." He was sure he wasn't ready to go into Halloween. Hell, part of him didn't quite believe that part of the story. "You must've gotten a better orientation than I did."

Tuck laughed.

"They pay you to use them, too - problem is you can only have 'em for an hour, so you really only make like fifty bucks." He shrugged. "Once a week, that ain't too bad. Extra two hundred a month. Can't complain about that!"

He shoved his half-empty plate away and leaned back in his seat.

"I just seen it on a flyer. I never had no orientation, really - least, nothing official. Just pickin' things up as I go, I guess. Still haven't gone on one of them External Missions. Have you?"

Crispin looked shocked for a moment, then sheepish. "Dude, I didn't even know we got paid... I guess I missed out on a bunch of details. I got... we're here to protect humanity, with monsters that became weapons and are now our partners, they can protect us in fights and also do cool limit breaks, there's golems to take us to the monster world... er... yeah. That's about it." He shook his head. "You'd think if we were gonna risk our lives, they'd at least want us to know what the ******** we were doing."

He brightened a bit at the mention of missions. "Right! I heard about those, too. But man, sometimes it feels like I can barely swing Shaiming around - I mean, I did the whole protecting-the-Island-from-Heartless thing when we got attacked, but I feel like I was just lucky, not skilled or anything..." Crispin sighed. "Figure I'd just end up being monster lunch."

"You got a twitter-thing yet? They're pretty handy. Been tellin' everyone I meet about it - least, everyone that's new like me. And yeah, we get paid. Still ain't sure how much," the large Moon shrugged with a grin, "but at least it's something."

Tuck tapped his fingers on the table before he leaned forward and braced himself on his elbows.

"You ever want to practice, just holler. I still ain't figured out how to get the charge thing right - and it ain't even a damage dealer, just a goddamned shield - it's failed three times now." He shook his head.

"I don't tend to do much attackin' on the field, honestly. Prefer to defend more'n anything. Let the Suns do the fighting, you know?"

"Twitter? Well - well yeah, of course, but I thought electronics didn't work. They wouldn't let me bring my consoles or my laptop or anything. You can get Twitter?" He tugged out his Deus-issue phone and made a face at it. "Though I probably couldn't use my old account, huh..." He looked wistful for a moment. Presumed dead closed a lot of doors he wished... weren't.

He poked at his mug for a moment, then looked up at Tuck. "Yeah - yeah, they said something about that. Just half the time I feel like I'm swinging around a tree branch, or something, and not a proper weapon..." Shaiming rumbled reassurance in his mind.

"But hey, a shield charge - I think I've got one of those, too! Only tried it once, and it didn't work, but it looked pretty awesome for a couple seconds. Maybe if we both give it a shot we'll get something that actually functions, yeah?"

"I think it's more like.. you can only connect to people who are on the island, too. Some kind of s**t that's interoffice or something. You know what I mean?" He shrugged and rubbed a hand along his jaw, looking thoughtful.

"Hey, man. You ever hold a weapon before you came to this place? It's natural to feel like that, I think. I remember the first time I ever held a gun it felt the same way. You will learn to get better - and if that weapon of yours is lookin' out for you, he'll help you out, too."

Tuck grinned.

"Herryk's looks real cool. It gets all big and shiny like -- hey, you ever play Halo? Them glowy jackal shields the bad guys carry. Kinda like that, but blue."
PostPosted: Sat May 18, 2013 1:22 pm

Crispin grinned the grin of the satisfied geek. "Oh yeah. That sounds awesome - Shaiming's looks kind of like... eh... if you ever played Skyrim? Kinda like the Dragon Aspect Shout. Only, er, not as pointy." He waved one hand in the air, then sighed wistfully. "I had over 300 hours on that save..."

Then he looked a bit sheepish. "Yeah, that ought to give you an idea of how often I held a weapon that wasn't in a videogame. My replica Sting doesn't count. Sure was pretty, though..."

"Wasn't ever too big on video games, really, but sometimes in high school we'd con my ma into buying us some snacks and 'Dew and sit around bullshitting while we had little Halo tournaments. I sucked at all that s**t. I heard of Skyrim, but never played it."

Tuck grinned before letting out a low whistle.

"Three hundred hours, goddamn. What do you do around here for fun without your games? Any hobbies yet?"
