Kaelan's home is far away from civilisation, out on a hillside that overlooks an 19th century farm village, built on a small island. The church was the only building still standing, the skeletons of the stone farmhouses the only hints that there was even a small village once upon a time. The only other building that stands is a very old little hut out by the huge lake that divides the island from the mainland. This hut is Kael's hideaway, as it seems to be a beacon for spiritual energy.

The converted church is a quaint little home which is surprisingly cute when you consider that the inhabitant isn't one for cute. It's simply laid out, easy to navigate and just enough space for two people to live comfortably together thanks to the master bedroom being up in it's own lofty overlook; even then it feels like the house is crowded. I wonder why...

Kaelan hadn't meant to upset Catalina or cause her to fret, but now he was out in the open, he became more self-conscious about himself. The only bonus here was that she couldn't see how disgusting he looked, but everyone else could. Black cab stopping in front of the male, he opened a door and pushed his irritation aside to show Catalina into the vehicle, Pandora following soon after to sit with the girl. She knew her Master wasn't feeling terribly comfortable, so she wanted to offer up her own warm, fluffy body for comfort. Sliding into the taxi, Kaelan told the driver where to go into the city to get to the train station and then sat in uncomfortable silence for a moment, until he remembered something. "Kaelan MacAulay..." He said quietly, keeping his head bowed down. "That's... That's my name. You don't have to call me Master... I don't need that kind of ego trip..." Again, it was quiet, and almost shy - like he was worried to say it - but at least he'd gotten his name out. It was a start.

Unsure of what to say now, the car ride passed by in an awkward silence, the man looking out the window as the scenery passed them by. Within ten minutes they were at the - thankfully - empty train station and Kaelan paid the somewhat nervous looking cab driver. Eye twitching slightly as the cab drove off, the masked man really wasn't happy now. He'd been as polite as possible to the driver, but still the man was afraid that something was going to happen; Kaelan was half expecting the man to say something utterly cruel to him. Rubbing the back of his neck, he reached into the pocket of his slacks to pull out his wallet. There were two tickets tucked away, pre-purchased ones, for the long train ride home. The train was a rather nice one, a mix of your typical passenger train crossed with a long-distance one with sleeping carriages. They had to travel all the way down the coast to get home, and it was a good few hours away. He'd paid for a nice room with enough room for two people to sleep in, and it was right by the dining car too.

"Catalina? It's... It's going to be a very long journey. We're travelling by train so... I hope you'll be okay." Guiding her with the help of Pandora to the platform, it wasn't long before the train made it's presence known and pulled into the station. As station guards opened the doors to the carriages, one's gaze lingered on Kaelan. "Yes?" The masked man hissed, feeling the familiar hold of irritation thanks to intolerance creep up. Without an answer the guard moved on, but it didn't escape the Irish man's attention that he was talking to other guards over walkie-talkies, most likely warning them about the masked man leading the poor blonde girl. Crawling up his leg, Pandora hid herself in the hood of his cloak, leaving Kaelan to help the woman inside the carriage on his own; he stepped inside first and took her hand to gently urge her in. "It's okay.. I've got you." Came murmured words of encouragement, pulling her in past him with a gentle hand to her lower back. Once inside, he made his way down the carriages to find the one they were in, which thankfully took no time at all.

As soon as the door was opened, Pandora was out of his hood and hiding in the sheets of the bed on the left. "Here, there's a bed here." Again, his voice was barely above a whisper, unsure of how to really act around the woman. Sitting down himself, he slipped his hood off his head and let his orange hair fall around his face. Sighing heavily, he was contemplating taking off his mask when a conductor knocked at the door. "Tickets." Came the blunt response, the old man clearly unhappy about the masked gingernut sitting in the room. Wordlessly, Kaelan handed the man his two tickets, his eyes focused on the man. The conductor seemed unsure about something, and the flicker of a smirk answered his question. "Masks aren't allowed on the train. Safety reasons you know." Lips pulling back from his upper teeth, Kaelan felt his body succumbing to his rage. "I have a disability. This mask protects my skin." The caring and gentle tone was gone again, replaced with one of anger and hatred, yet it was still eerily quiet; as eerily quiet as a ghost. "It's rules." The man said, clearly set in his ways of trying to bully people into submission.

Getting to his feet with a flurry of his cloak, Kaelan pushed the man out the room, his now unmasked face inches from the sixty-year old man. Kaelan didn't want Catalina to hear what was going on, so he kicked the door shut behind him. "Do you want this face around children?" He growled, voice dark and menacing. "This is the face of a monster, so let the monster hide." Pushing away from the old man, the ornate masquerade mask was tied back around his head while the horrified conductor just fled with a muttered "Yes sir... Oh god..." Trembling, Kaelan was reluctant to return to the room that Catalina sat in. He couldn't trust himself, he felt ready to lash out, and the poor girl didn't deserve any of it. Taking a shuddering breath, he opened the door. "I'll be right back, please.. Stay put. I'll shut the blind and l-lock the door so you know you're safe." His anxiety riddled voice kept to it's promise and pulling down the blind so people couldn't look into the room, he locked the door and took the key with him. Making his way to the dining car, the man sat there for a good twenty minutes, by which time the train had pulled away from the station.

The only reason Kaelan found to return to the room was thanks to a book cart being pushed through the train. Stopping the frail old man, he asked if there was anything on the cart that a blind young lady would enjoy. Paying a small amount of money for Pride and Prejudice on an audiobook, he purchased the device for her to listen to it with, and the headphones. Standing up, he looked to the service area of the dining car and ordered some sandwiches, a few sweet treats (miniature lemon meringue pies and baby red velvet cupcakes with buttercream icing) and a bottle of chilled water, the man packed it all into a box for the clearly tired and hooded man, and told him where to find glasses in their quarters. Thanking the first man not to pass judgement on his looks, Kaelan made his way back to the young lady he'd locked in the room. Oh he felt bad for it, but he planned to make it up to her.

"Catalina?" Nervously calling to the girl as he opened the door, Kaelan let himself in, locking the door once again - he didn't trust anyone on the train. Placing the box of food onto the lonely bedside table between the beds and against the wall, he took out the bottle of water and searched for the cups; they were exactly where the man said they'd be. "Catalina, there's some food here if you want it... Sandwiches, and some desserts. I-If you want something, just ask... I-I'll get it for you. There's water too." It was clear that the man was quite unsure of how to act or what he should be doing, but at least he was trying. He just couldn't believe how lucky he was to find the one perfect person; being blind might not have been so perfect, but it was for him. Unfastening his cloak, Kaelan draped it over the foot of the bed, and promptly Pandora wormed her way out the bed and into the warm, velvet folds. Smiling gently as he took his mask off, a tuna sandwich was presented to the cat on a napkin, who promptly meowed loudly, and tucked right in. Looking up to Catalina, Kaelan kept his eyes on her collar. He still wasn't game enough to get close to take it off her, but he knew that he wanted it off her neck. They were practically stuck on an island alone; where would she run? It was a horrid thought, but a true one. She had nowhere to go, and was basically forced to stay with him.

This thought made him feel somewhat ashamed for buying her. He'd practically ensured her fate with him.

Wheee~ Time for an awkward train ride! Sorry I took so long to get this done, I wanted to create the perfect set up and it was taking a while to get it out my head.
Would you be able to bold her speech hun? My PC screen is brighter than my laptop and it's harder to see when she speaks... When she actually speaks haha XD

( The stars, they're calling for me )

The rearing breaks of a vehicle had made Catalina cringe with utmost disgust. The machines of the humans were so toxic, especially to Cat herself. Fumes like so did not find her appeal but with a soft sigh, she accepted the fact that she was going to have to enter this vehicle. Even though they were machines she had been raised to dislike, Catalina couldn't ever help but be curious as to how they worked. It sounded like such a difficult task to manage, to invent a machine that would move you from one place to another without effort. Cat paused as to wait for something to happen. She tapped her fingers quietly on the side of her leg to keep herself busy while she waited, but she didn't have to wait for much longer. Her kind master was being ever so courteous to show his slave into the car first, as if she deserved it. Catalina willingly bowed her head as she ducked into the car, feeling around as she scooted her butt across the seats. As the young girl adjusted her position to find the most comfortable one, she felt the brush of soft fur on her skin. She kept her head bowed as she put out her hand, gently smoothing her hand over Pandora's silky back fur. Catalina nibbled on the inside of her cheek as she listened to her master's directions. She didn't know hardly any of what he was speaking of, but she heard the mention of trains. She seemed very interested at such a term. She's heard it before, but it was quite a distant thought. Catalina could recall them being another machine of the humans, but this one was always an interest to the girl. She was intrigued by the fact that it could hold many passengers, materials, or just about anything. As for cars, well they only held very few passengers. Catalina had never actually been on a train before and was quite excited, at least on the inside. This might have put her in a better mood, but the fact that they sat in silence for most of the ride just worsened her mood.

It was a great shock to Catalina when her master spoke.
It was so sudden, to just break the silence like that. He startled me, quite a bit.Catalina had lifted her head a bit as he spoke. She almost didn't catch his name, as she was so startled. Cat was almost grateful she didn't have to ask for his name. It would have been a difficult task for her, since she was so shy. It was a bigger surprise to the young slave that as she told not to call her very own master, "master". Catalina didn't feel very comfortable with that at all but she did not let up about her feelings since after all, her feelings were behind all things. Cat slowly nodded her head once, accepting that she'd have to obey all of his commands. He was quite thorough on how he did not enjoy being called master and Catalina knew no other way to address him other then Mr.MacAulay. Even that was uncomfortable for her, but maybe it was time to leave her comfort zone. It was odd to her though, that he was so quiet. He had been acting very nervous around her and it was far beyond her as of why. No master she has ever met was to shy around their slave, better yet shy to speak to their slave. It was the same though, after that. Not a peep came from either of their mouths as the sat still and quietly in the vehicle. It had seemed like and eternity, riding along in that car until they had finally stopped. Catalina held her breath quietly, as she listened to her surroundings. Within a snap she was lead out of the car, and the zooming sound of the vehicle echoed in her ears. That cab driver must have been very anxious to go. Was there something wrong with Catalina?

Catalina didn't bother to think about it because Kaelan had interrupted her thoughts. He talked so delicately as he kindly explained the events. He seemed a bit to caring for what she was use to. What Catalina didn't pay much attention to, was that Kaelan wasn't kidding about it being a long journey. She wouldn't have thought that long hours of waiting laid ahead of her. Catalina took each step slow and steady, as she put all of her tust onto Kaelan. She trusted him very much by now, only because she had to. She knew that public places were very dangerous and she trusted him to keep her from such dangers. Every few steps she wobbled a bit but she kept pressing on as Kaelan lead her. The train as it pulled in, was so loud and sounded enormous. It made so much noise and she wanted to reach up and put her hands over her ears but the train's whistle had stopped by the time she had thought about it.

It was a mystery to the girl where Pnadora had gone, but luckily she had her master to lead her, and he might have just been better because he could catch her if she fell or tripped. Catalina wasn't a good walker, and even she knew it. She doesn't use her legs much and never really has. After all, she had wings once upon a time. Catalina couldn't help but notice once again that Kaelan was irritated again. This time though, he was much worse. Although he was irritated, he still managed to be thoughtful and kind to Catalina as he lead her up into the train. She almost tripped on her very first step but Kaelan's hold on her hand had helped her back up. It didn't seem to take much time to find where they were supposed to be, because before she knew it they were entering a room that smelled lightly of cinnamon and cookies. It was a welcoming scent and she felt like she could just wrap herself up in it. Kaelan was very quiet as he pointed out a bed for the girl.
What and odd thing. I never knew trains had beds for their passengers..Catalina sat herself down on the bed he had showed her to. It was soft and quite comfy. She sat up strait as she smoothed her hands over her thighs, crossing her shin over the other in a lady-like manor. She reached her slender hand up to pull her bangs away from her eyes, only making them worse. She sighed as she gave up and was just about to unbutton her tuxedo-like jacket when a voice called out. At first she didn't know what they said but after a second of contemplating, she realized the voice was asking for tickets. The young girl had almost forgotten that travel took money. She felt sorely bad that she possibly had made her master to pay more, just because she had to come. She should have refused his offer, so he wouldn't have to go through all this trouble. Catalina wouldn't have expected nay trouble. She thought that the tickets would have been handed over and the man would move on to another room. Instead, she was very wrong. Strangely enough, the old sounding man had told Kaelan that masks were not allowed on the train. First off, Catalina had no idea he was wearing a mask. Second, she was surprised to hear that Kaelan had a disability. Catalina's curiosity was raging by now, but she bit her lip and sat quietly. She held back the questions as her mind wondered off, questioning everything. The thing that made Cat a bit scared to even be in that room at that very moment was the fact that her master no longer held his quiet caring tone. It had vanished in this sounded like someone new, or different. He didn't seem very happy and she was worried, letting scenarios play on in her head. The old man seemed very persistent in having Kaelan take the mask off. It was a fight not worth fighting over, in Catalina's mind.

Cat seemed to be invisible to both the men, but she was used to this feeling by now. She began to toy with the ribbon necklace, rubbing her thumb over it as her head bowed. The sound of instant movement caused the girl to focus her attention back upon the men. She opened her eyes, not like it was going to help her see at all. Catalina widened, surprised that Kaelan was moving so fast. In les than a few seconds, both men had exited the room with the slam of a door. Catalina was shut out from everything. she still sat their, a bit shocked. She tried to listen for a moment but soon gave up. Whatever they were doing, they didn't want Catalina to be present. Kaelan was back far too soon which bothered Catalina. Catalina felt awkward, being alone in the room. Catalina was unsure of Pandora was still in the room. It was nice of Kaelan to make her feel safe. She never really did feel safe out in public. Cat didn't have time to thank him before he was gone and she sighed. She felt as though she was the one who had started his bad mood, and she wished she could have ended it.

Catalina was having trouble trying top think of things to do and with a simple sigh she had decided sleep wasn't too bad of a idea. Catalina was very hot and reached her hands up to slowly unbutton each little velvet button on her jacket. She pulled her arms out of the sleeves and did her best to fold the jacket, placing it at the foot of her bed. The girl then unbuttoned a few top buttons of her white see through blouse. Under her blouse was a lacy flower patterned corset. It was a little something her last master had forced her to wear around and she amazingly enough had adapted to liking it. Catalina reached for covers and in a few moments, she was comfortably resting under a few sheets, just staring up at the ceiling. She listened to the sound of the train as it started to pull away from the platform. The sounds were entertaining her, but she was having a hard time falling asleep with all the noises.

Overtime it had become quite a bit hotter in the room. She felt her skin get a bit moist here and there with a bit of sweat. Catalina slowly sat up as she heard her name being called. She rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand and she pulled the covers off of her, pulling her legs off to the side of the bed. The charms on her collars chimed a bit at her movement and she brought her left hand up to rub her thumb over them. Her black lacy stalkings were ruffled up and messy. Catalina was oblivious to the fact that her blouse was practically see through, to show her corset. She lifted her head up towards the door as a short yawn came from her. The voice sounded nervous and it must have been her master. He was stuttering quite a bit as he explained the assorted items he had brought in for them both. She didn't quite understand some of the things he said and she lifted and eyebrow.
"Sandwiches?", Catalina had never heard such a term. She didn't know what it was. As for the desserts and water, she knew very well. Catalina tilted her head to the side, as she herd Pandora meow. The cat was in the room with her after all.

{O.ut O.f C.andy} Don't worry about it! You did amazing!! It was like reading a movie. Plus I take a lot of time posting myself. I want to apologize for that. You see I got myself in quite the mess and now I've been busy trying to get posts in to everybody when I can. I also want to apologize for the quality of my post. You see I was so anxious to make it perfect, it didn't turn out so well. I went over every detail and made it drag on. It's rather boring but I don't have the time to edit it over.

And I'm truly sorry. My old layout was a bad layout from the beginning. I've made a new one and hope it is much more readable. If there are any other problems, please don't be afraid to tell me.

▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀

The man knew it would be hard to share his home and life with another human being, but he hadn't prepared to live with a female. Especially one that was blind. If he really had to think about it, he should have based his decision on what was logical, not about trying to get one more good deed on his belt. Given a female probably would have ended up being his choice in the long run - they tended to like cats just a little more - he was struggling to find a positive right now that wasn't the biggest negative in her life. The blindness was like a slap in the face after winning first prize. He'd found a celestial being, rescued her, and discovered that she would never see his face. As good as that point was, the man felt horrid for even thinking it. Her blindness wasn't a positive in any manner, but he just couldn't destroy that little bubble of joy in his being. She'd need his help in the beginning, she'd have to rely on him for a while, but at least she'd never see his face. She'd never have to be afraid of him, how lucky.

Hearing her question, Kaelan lifted his gaze from the food platter and found himself a little taken aback. Did people not know how to dress a lady respectfully? Given the blouse was feminine and the somewhat visible corset was quite pretty, it didn't mean it was okay to dress a blind woman in an outfit she couldn't judge herself. Which brought him to his next realisation - she would need clothes. Oh god, she would need clothes. Fretting a little, he forced himself to answer the question hanging in the air. "A sandwich... It's... It's two slices of bread, a-any kind really... Filled with foodstuffs. Um. These ones are... There's white bread w-with cucumber and butter.. Wholemeal with chicken a-and some salad... Um, white and tuna... I think that's it..." Staring at the food tray, he tugged at the collar of his shirt. There were some desserts too, he might as well explain them too. "There... There's also some little tarts... Lemon ones with a meringue topping... I-It's like marshmallow. Um... Some red cupcakes with a buttery icing, they're.. They're sweet and rather nice... A-And small. Bite size." Laughing uneasily, with the blind down and door locked, the man felt a little more relaxed that no-one would surprise him with his mask off. It was a relief to be able to not wear it around the woman, but there was always the fear she'd ask to touch his face to figure out how he looked. At least if it was done at night time she would feel his normal face...

The journey was a long one, and while there was uncomfortable silence, at least Kaelan attempted to make small talk. Asking the woman simple things like what she liked and what she didn't, along with basic things like what music she liked. It was pathetic in his eyes, trying to make her feel comfortable when he was so uneasy himself, but at least he was trying. Even Pandora seemed to realise that, as she went over to sit with the girl in the crumpled up clothing. The cat knew the girl was a gentle soul, and was trying to show her master so. It would take time for the man to accept the fact that this girl wouldn't be afraid of his face, but that was simply due to the ridicule he'd received since returning to the world of the living as a cursed, immortal human. The main worry in Kaelan's mind was his temper. It was violent at it's worst, and he could be unpredictable. He had to hide this from Catalina at all costs. She could never fall victim to his stress-induced rages, it just wouldn't be right. But whether or not the man could actually keep this side to himself under control or not was yet to be seen.

As the train sped down the tracks, the scenery outside changed from urban to country farming, and as the country farming slowly disappeared into forests and maws, mountain ranges began to appear and dominate the land. While the temperature inside the train was fairly warm, the outside one was gradually dropping the closer they came to the lakeside town with the island in the middle. It wasn't a horrendously cold outside, but it was definitely cool for the current season. In summer it was nice and warm like usual, but since winter was just around the corner, it definitely wasn't going to get any warmer any time soon, and Kaelan had to make sure Cat would be warm. He was used to the weather, but this girl... She'd need warm clothes. As the quiet in the train cabin had settled in to stay for the remainder of the trip, the man used this time to think. There was a store in town run by a kindly old woman, who was thankfully one of the only people in the village that liked him. There was a special reason for that, but it mildly upset Kaelan to think of it these days. He'd been lucky to meet her when he had, and it had made the first few months of his life there more tolerable. She'd be the first stop once the train pulled into the station. Thankfully the village was small, tight-knit but small, so walking around would be easy. They made their living from the lake that was fed directly from the ocean, so the fish were bountiful and very delicious. Goat and sheep farming produced lovely cheeses, and the cows seemed to thrive from the fresh, untainted green that covered the base of the mountain ranges.

As the train began to slow down, Kaelan re-tied his mask around his face and slipped his cloak back on. As Pandora made herself comfortable, hiding on her master's shoulders under the hood, Kaelan allowed his attention to return to Catalina. If he was going to remove that collar, he had to do it now, before anyone could see it and pass judgement on the fragile girl. Clearing his throat nervously, Kaelan finally spoke again after so long. "Catalina? There's... There's something I need to do before we get off the train. Please... Don't, don't fret... But I'm going to sit next to you now..." Nerves rattled in his Irish voice as he slowly moved over to the other bed to sit next to the blind woman. Taking in a deep breath, he clenched and unclenched his fists on his knees for a moment, deciding what to say. "Catalina... I'm... I'm going to take that collar off your neck." The man whispered, almost like he was trying to convince himself that he was going to do it. Before he could back out of his own plan, Kaelan reached out and gently moved Cat's hair away from her neck, trembling fingers brushing against her skin as he fumbled with the clasps of the horrid item around the girls neck. Trying not to think about how he was actually touching the woman's neck, or that he hadn't felt the warmth of a woman's flesh since the mid 1800's, Kaelan managed to undo the collars from the girls neck, pocketing the coloured, charmed monstrosity. "I hope this makes you feel more comfortable.." He said gently, placing a trembling hand on her shoulder for a moment.

As the train's brakes squealed, Kaelan remained on Catalina's bed until the vehicle came to a stop. "You'll want to put your jacket back on, it'll be a little cool outside." Standing up and waiting for the woman to put her jacket back on, Kaelan yet again took a step forward with bravery - he took up her hand gently. "Let.. Let me lead you. We have somewhere to visit before we get home... It'll.. It'll be a short walk... But it's okay, Pandora a-and I will help you." It felt... Odd to offer help and kindness to someone living, or to someone in general, but Kaelan knew he had no choice. She needed him, just as much as he'd come to need her to be with Pandora while he was away. Gently guiding the woman off the train, his hood covering his face as they left the empty train, he looked around the station and felt a little more relaxed. He was almost home. The shop he had in mind was near the village's church, it was a thrift shop, a place where people donated clothing that they no longer needed, but was still in good condition. It had a number of other odds and ends, and the elderly woman that ran the shop was loved by all. "I.. I want to take you to a shop before we go home... The weather will be changing soon... You.. You'll need warm clothes. I don't want you getting cold..." The man had central heating and a fire place, but clothes were essential, and he only had mens clothing in his house. Definitely not befitting a young woman.

The walk was an easy one, and only about five minutes, but those five minutes were stressful for Kaelan. The villagers didn't like the man that lived on the island, shrouded in mystery and darkness. Those he walked past either began to mutter under their breath ('That's the man that attracts evil.' 'Did you know he's deformed? Apparently he's nothing but a hideous monster') or made horrible tutting noises to show their distaste. Thankfully for Catalina, she didn't have to endure the stares of those they passed by, but she wasn't completely immune to the whispers about her - 'poor girl, stuck with him... who would live with a monster like that?'. Anger growing by the minute, Kaelan swapped from guiding Catalina with a hand holding the crook of her elbow, to a gentle hand on the middle of her back, he was too afraid to be holding a part of her in case his anger made him squeeze her arm uncomfortably. Walking into the shop, the bell above the door chiming loudly in protest of the door being forced open, the strangely pleasant smell of a musty old building combined with almost stereotypical church smells (pot-puris and lavender incense) made Kaelan breathe a sigh of relief.

Footsteps sounded moments before the voice of an elderly woman that sounded as wise as she was kindly. "Kaelan? What brings you here? The spirits didn't tell me you'd be coming." The tap of a cane punctuated her footsteps as she came over to the trio, Pandora mewing loudly in joy from Kaelan's shoulders at the sight of the woman. "Pandora, has he been keeping out of trouble?" The woman cooed, reaching up to pet the purring cat, before she finally noticed the blonde woman standing to the side in silence. "Kaelan, who's this? How rude of you to bring in a lovely young lady and not introduce her." Blushing behind his mask as the woman prodded his chest with a bony finger, the man stammered out a reply. "I-I'm sorry... Edith, t-this is Catalina. Catalina, this is Edith... She's... She's the only friend I have in this village..." Trailing off at the end of his embarrassing admission, Edith simply chucked. "Oh you're dramatic son. The folks around here don't understand just how special Kaelan is, but I do. I'm a soothsayer, I use Divination to seek answers to the universe, and often I send wayward spirits to Kaelan so he can send them home..." Trailing off as Kaelan shuffled awkwardly, Edith snorted a little. "Oh don't be ashamed of what you are sonny boy. Catalina, Kaelan here is a Guider of Lost Souls. He judges them, then sends them on their way. It's a perfectly fine job, so don't go worryin' your head over it boy." Rubbing the exposed half of his face, happy that Catalina couldn't see what was going on, Kaelan sighed. "Edith... I'd like you to help Catalina find some clothes. She-She's blind... She has nothing... And living on the island... She'll need..." Pausing, unsure of how to finish, Edith hummed thoughtfully. "I got ya sonny. Catalina, sweetie, come with me. We'll find you some nice clothes, some warm ones too. Trust Granny Edith, okay? Kaelan can wait for us, he'll be alright."

Watching Edith lead Catalina over to the side of the shop with all kinds of clothing, from day wear right down to sleep wear, Kaelan busied himself over the other side of the shop, prodding around the knick-knacks while Edith helped Catalina find some clothing that was just perfect for a young lady. Edith, being the typical old woman, was happily leading Catalina around, trying to get the poor, quiet dear to open up a little. "Catalina darling, if you have any questions, ask Granny Edith okay? Don't listen to those townsfolk, don't listen to their awful whispers. Kaelan's a good man. Troubled, and deeply hurt, but a good man. He might have a temper, but he's been alone for so very, very long now... He needs a friend or two..." Trailing off, the woman began to sort through some cute cardigans and jumpers, trying to find some that were less dowdy, and more feminine and cute for the pretty blind girl.

Oh my gosh, that layout! o: gaaaaasp! it's beautiful!
Basically, I've left it open for Catalina to ask Edith anything, if she has anything to ask that is. I'll move them onto Kaelan's home in my next post, have Edith gather him up something special too. I love old people NPC's :3

( The stars, they're calling for me )

"Oh, okay." The young lady did her best to understand what a sandwich was, but she couldn't picture it. She saw it as a pile of random foods, but it sounded so normal to the man. Afraid to question it, she nodded lightly. She had no persistence to understand. She trusted that it was food, and it sounded fairly harmless. The sandwich was something Cat was not very familiar with. She was never presented with such luxury when her previous master fed her. She never knew too well exactly what she was being fed, and in fact has had to place her trust in anyone who feeds her. Cat tries not to think about how incredibly vulnerable she was. When she did think about it, it disgusted her. To think she relied on others for her life made her feel like dying grass that is sparsely watered, waiting, just waiting for the water to change to poison.

The very corner of Cat's mouth twitched when her master laughed. It was not a normal laugh, and she could hear the hurried tone about it. Clearly he was either ill or nervous. Catalina listened closely to the man, learning about him by his nature, his voice, his movements. He didn't seem to keen on slaves, nor hosting. By the way he said things; the way he acted, he didn't seem to smart in socializing. Of course, Cat was just as awkward so their talking was almost unnerving to her. She shortly responded to each of his questions, giving him what he wanted; no less, no more. Cat adjusted her positions frequently in their talk, clearly uncomfortable. It has been a very long time since she had a flowing conversation that stayed steady and respectful. To her disappointment, there was a lot of questions Cat didn't know the answer to and apologized more than necessary to her master. Catalina didn't take much notice to the cat near her, but merely lowered her eyes to the ground, her thoughts about the man echoing inside her skull. Minutes seemed to pass over longer than they were and the ride got quiet again. She didn't move from her spot, but instead sat there, stiff with her head lowered. She was so obediently well trained and adapted to her old master's rules that it could take months to years to train her to fit Kaelan's standards. Cat's thoughts passed over this, as she didn't want to think about the work ahead of her. A new master was a new everything. It was new work, new behavior, new rules. Even if Kaelan was different, it would be a great surprise if he didn't have rules. Everyone has rules.

She could just see it: Soft face that was pale, long but slim nose, large blue sparkling eyes and small lusciously pink lips. Catalina could see shoulder length hair, blonde, and layered. She saw it back in a pony tail with a slight curl at the end. It was her guess at the appearance of her master. She knew there was no way in heaven that she was completely correct, but it was always entertaining to think of who might want her, of what they might look like. It was just when she was getting into detail of his age, she was interrupted by her very own master. Her mind was awoken and slapped back to reality by his words. She took a quick note that the pace of the train was much slower. She couldn't process his words quick enough before he was suddenly sitting next to her. Her stature stiffened and her breathing suddenly got heavier but after a moment’s pause to think back to what he had said she felt a bit more relaxed. She still was alert and confused as to what his intentions were. The small creek of the bed when his weight was put on her mattress made her a bit more uncomfortable and took in a deep breath. Her senses kicked in and with that simple breath, she smelled his scent. Kaelan was musky, a masculine scent all over him. She could smell it from his breath, from his skin, and from his clothing. She closed her eyes, inhaling another deep breath. He smelled like the dew on a freshly watered plant, or the powerfully potent rose oil, freshly picked from the old European mountains of Turkey. Such smells not only opened Cat's nose, but her insides; her heart. She wasn't smelling Kaelan's physical scent, but his insides; his soul's scent. It was so beautifully fragrant and strong to her senses that her eyes were nearly tearing up. Catalina was so relieved at his next verse, nodding with approval. She kept taking strong breaths, smelling his true scent as his fingers got closer and closer to her. She's been waiting to get the collar off for longer than she could remember.

Catalina didn't take the time to question why he was doing it. Maybe it was because he didn't want people judging him for being an owner or maybe he just didn't approve of collars, Either way, Catalina was grateful. His voice was so quiet and gentle. When she felt his shaking fingers swiftly brush on the skin of her neck, she leaned her head to the side, slowly but surely, to give him better access to her neck. Her curly hair fell out of his way just before he released the clasp on the collar. She took a gulp once she felt him take the collar away. She felt naked without the collar. Cat felt awkward, weird, abnormal. She had become so accustomed to it that she had forgotten what it was like without it. She puffed her chest out a bit, her mouth curling into the sweetest of smiles.
"Th-thank you." Her whisper was so quiet, she wouldn't doubt if he didn't hear it. She was so pleased that she felt the urge to jump up and just twirl. It was like freedom. Cat did not act upon it though, knowing of the dangers. The squeaking of the train disrupted her glorious moment, frightening her. The young lady gasped, reaching her hands out for something to hold onto. While her left hand found the edge of her mattress, the right hand found Kaelan's knee. Her hand, slender and elegant with long and shiny nails wrapped around the round shape of his knee. Her grip was tight as her fright increased. Just as the train stopped, she had realized where her hand had rested upon and a flurry of emotions rushed up and down her body. Cat quickly pulled her hand back, pressing it against her chest. A worry so heavy was set upon her that she felt like Atlas, holding the world up. A rush of words wanted to spring out of her mouth but when it opened, nothing came out. Her cheeks had pierced her skin with a red hue. She wanted to apologize but she couldn't speak, for no reason she could answer. Her mouth just lay open, her mind boggled and caught in the moment. The perfect time for her to avoid speaking of the incident came. Just as Kaelan suggested her wearing a jacket, she jumped up, steady herself for a few seconds due to her wobbly knees, before furiously feeling around for the jacket. She snatched it up and took a moment to fit her arms in the right sleeves.

Cat didn’t take the time to button her jacket, pausing, letting her arms loosely hang by her sides. It was her master’s move. What he did, was least expected. She felt he warm flesh of his fingers envelope around her hand. His words followed his action and as confused as she may have been, it was comforting to feel someone else’s touch. Cat had not expected this trip to have so many stops, but it was a bit of an adventure. She had already learned new things and it increased her mood greatly. She curled her hand around his, symbolizing her approval of his request to help her. It wasn’t as hard getting off the train as it was getting on. She could tell her master wasn’t as stressed and finally the air between them was a bit more relaxed. Of course when her master told her of their next mission and the reason behind it, she felt guilty. Clothes would cost money. Money that her master may have wanted or needed. She was taking that away from him. The unnecessary guilt weighed her down.
“Mast.. I mean Kaelan.. P-please, you don’t have to…” Before she could spurt out more they were already off on their way towards their destination. Cat surely did not hope that she was being a burden to her master and could not explain how much she appreciated his kindness. With very keen ears, she couldn’t help but being a little disturbed and overwhelmed as she heard bits and parts of whisper by passer-byers. She promised herself not to judge upon these whispers, as her master seemed like a very kind man, but from what it sounded like, he was not very well liked. She was too caught up in the whispers, that she didn’t take care to notice her master’s movement from her elbow to her back. A tickling sensation crawled up her spine and she stiffened, but never stop walking. It was a very short walk and with the lead of her master, they entered a shop. The ding of the bell caused her ears to ring for a few seconds.

Catalina softly sneezed, with a high pitched squeal as the scents of the shop stung her nose. Once she had recovered, adorably wiping her nose with the back of her hand, her head whipped around to listen in on the footsteps nearing her. A old, quivering voice was exposed to her ears and she could only assume that it was the shop owner. A tap, different from a footstep echoed more loudly through her ears. Catalina could assume by the old voice and slow steps that this woman most likely had support for her elderly body. The woman’s way of talking was quite interesting and it was very obvious that she and Kaelan were close. Clearly they were comfortable with each other. It only made Cat feel awkward and left out, like the third wheel of a friendship. Cat kept her eyes low, afraid of judgment from the old lady and simply nodded with a attempted curtsy to the lady, as Kaelan introduced them. She bit down on her lower lip, holding back her amusement for the old lady’s harassment towards Kaelan. It saddened Cat though, that this old lady was his only friend. It was never fun to have a single friend out of many peers and Cat related to that very well.

It was odd to Catalina. Everything about it was odd to Catalina. She didn’t quite understand what Edith was saying but she collected that both Kaelan and Edith were far from normal. Cat knew very well of soothsayers, but she had yet to know what was so special about Kaelan and how/why he sent off spirits. Lucky for Cat, Edith had answered her question before it was needed of asking. Of course, being a Celestial, Catalina knew as well of the Guiders, but being blind makes it harder to see the symptoms and she didn’t know too much about the Guiders to completely understand everything. This did explain quite a lot but what bother Cat the most was that it sounded like Kaelan wasn’t planning on telling Catalina any time soon. This wasn’t the end of it though. She could already tell Kaelan wasn’t very happy about being exposed to Cat, but Cat was openly revealed to the old lady about her disability. She squeezed her eyes shut along with her fists. The shame clouded inside her like a depressing rainy day. It never made her feel good when she was so openly talked about like that. It made her feel like a burden, to need more help. She always convinced herself that it was her fault and Catalina didn’t leave Kaelan without feeling a bit upset. Catalina walked with the old lady, clearly overwhelmed and confused.
“Oh..Okay.” Her voice was a bit more bitter than before but still quiet and soft, like the spinning of a rose petal. Cat couldn’t guess what Kaelan could be doing at that moment. She felt weird to be away from her master but it was better to be in a woman’s presence for once. It was a comfortable environment for Cat, even if the lady was a bit odd. Cat also found it a bit amusing how the old lady said more than necessary, giving Cat information that she was likely too afraid to ask.
It was quiet for a moment or too as Cat stood by, listening to the ruffling of fabric as the old lady sorted through piles. Cat never really did get to judge her clothing. She never knew the color or the style, but she always knew the fabric. It was a small request and Cat felt afraid at first but she had never been given the ability to ask for something and now was the time. Cat had gone through several fabrics and her favorite kind was slick and silky. Her previous master had forced her to wear a lacy red gown that barely reached past her thighs. It wasn’t the style she liked, but the feel of the silk. Her owner called it satin and if the old lady had anything of the sort, she’d like it. She didn’t care whether she’d be able to wear It or not, she just wanted something comfortable to hold like a blanket in case she’d have trouble sleeping.
“E-edith..? I..I like satin. Is there any of that..?”

As Kaelan silently removed himself from the equation, he watched the exchange between Edith and Catalina from the other side of her second-hand store. Not being a very sociable man, he found it easier to pick up on people's little quirks from a distance, and since he hadn't lived with a female for... Well, not since his family, he felt entirely thrown out of balance. Edith though didn't skip a beat - the old woman took over the conversation like it was just another friend who'd come to visit her. The blind young woman was fascinating to the old lady, and it was almost fun to be able to help someone pick clothes simply by the feel of them. As the conversation fell silent for just a moment, Edith hummed a little as Cat admitted she liked the feel of satin. "Satin, ey? Well, that won't do you well in this time of year, you'll freeze your little feet off! But I do have some nightclothes in satin that would be alright... And some items you can wear under jackets and jumpers. Don't worry, Granny Edith will take care of you." Plucking some clothes from the rack, she took the girls hand and ran it over the material, explaining the length of each blouse she picked up, while explaining the thickness of the material and various other bits of information to help the blind girl feel more comfortable about the clothes she was buying; Edith was pretty sure that if the girl could understand the different feel of the materials, she wouldn't be afraid of the top being see-through or too provocative.

Because of this tactic, it admittedly took Edith a lot longer to get a good amount of clothes together that were suitable for the islands cold weather, but also clothes that were feminine but conservative. There were a good number of PJ sets in different styles so Catalina wouldn't get them mixed up and mismatched, and the same went for all her clothes; they all had a slightly different style or feel so there was a clear difference (for Catalina's fingers anyway). In the mix of clothing Edith had stacked over her arm was a number of skinny jeans in the standard array of fashionable colours (dark blue, stonewashed light blue and black), other styles of comfortable pants, satin blouses that weren't see-through, long-sleeve tops, and your typical warm and cosy cardigans, sweaters and jumpers. While the clothing was second hand, it was all in impeccable shape; not a tear or seam out of place. No stains, no fading, it was almost like the old woman had spend her twilight years devoted to the care of the clothing that was donated. Bundling the new items into an old suitcase, Edith planted her hands on her hips and let out a whoosh of air. "Yep, that'll do it. You got your winter wear, your cold weather wear... Well, you got clothes to keep you warm!" Letting out a light hearted chuckle, the old woman hummed thoughtfully. "Just need a few more things..."

Wandering back over, Kaelan watched Edith with a confused stare as Pandora made her way down her Master's body to pad over to the countertop, leaping up onto it with ease before settling on top of the suitcase with a proud 'mew'. By the time Kaelan had made his way back to stand near Cat wordlessly, Edith had gathered a bunch of other items from the other half of the church second-hand store: it served as a small pharmacy that sold your basic over the counter stuff along with... "Soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, some deodorant, perfume as well as some things you'd never want to buy yourself Kaelan." Patting the male's shoulder as she came past with a hamper full of the best essentials any female could want (toothpaste and toothbrush included), the man blushed and groaned in an embarrassed way. "Oh get over it sonny. I know you haven't lived with a woman for..." "Edith." Kaelan's voice cut through the air and the shop fell silent for a few seconds. "Not that. I'm not ready to go there yet." There was a deep sadness in his voice mixed with a pang of annoyance that Edith was so freely about to reveal something so personal. If Catalina could see the old woman's face, she would see it change from shock, to understanding. "Alright dear. Just don't forget; you need any help, Granny Edith will come. I've got your back sonny." Smiling a very weak, but thankful smile, Kaelan nodded. "A-Actually Edith... I do need some... Groceries..." While he didn't mind food shopping, he didn't want Catalina to be present when the townsfolk whispered about him. On his own he could handle it, but he didn't want more stress when he was trying to get rid of a large amount.

A hand squeezed Kaelan's arm as Edith smiled up at him. "Don't say another word. I'll bring you a good hamper round dinner time. You just get her home and used to your house okay? Make sure he shows her around good and proper, Pandora." Scratching the cat gently behind her ears, the feline purred and mewed gently, almost like she understood exactly what the old woman had said. Nodding, Kaelan took in a deep breath and picked up the suitcase and hamper. "C-Catalina? You can use my arm as a guide if you need... I-It's not a long walk to the docks, and we'll take the ferry across." Waiting for Cat's response, Kael thanked Edith greatly and promised to give her the money back the second she dropped the groceries off. Leaving the shop after making sure his mask and hood were up, he lead Catalina slowly over to the ferry where he was greeted rather warmly by the ferryman. "Kaelan, headin' home? You're not usually out in the da-.. Oh! You got a friend today?" Blinking, it took Kaelan a moment to realise that by 'friend', he meant Catalina, not the cat curled up under his hood behind his neck. "Huh? O-Oh yeah... This is Catalina... She's.. She's come to help me look after Pandora." Giving the kind of laugh you'd expect from a seaman, the ferryman headed towards the cabin. "Jus' don't forget to take care of yourself boy. Come now, let's get you guys home. Weather looks like it'll change at sundown." Pausing while getting on the ferry, Kaelan frowned. "Edith is dropping some things off around dinner time..." Concern sounded clearly in his voice, but the old man waved it off. "I'll get your goods to ya, just listen out for my horn. I'll bring it over in the boat; seas are gonna get rough after sunset." Breathing a sigh of relief, Kaelan guided Catalina onto the ferry and into the passenger area.

Sitting down, Pandora slithered down onto his lap and curled up tightly as the ferry gave a small lurch as the engine started up. Stroking the cat's fur, Kaelan was at a loss for what to say, but eventually he figured out something to explain - the island. "I live on the island... M-Mainly because of where it is. It has a strange... Energy about it - you'll probably sense it too when you step foot on it. The people here won't step foot on the island... Years of.. Of rumours of the island being a.. Paranormal hotspot has most of them scared to even get on the ferry.. Plus townsfolk don't like me so they won't come near me..." Voice trailing off with a hint of hurt and resent, he cleared his throat and suddenly became rather wistful. "It's quite pretty in winter.. Wish you could see it..." Leaving his statement at that, the ferry lurched slightly again as it began to move across the small stretch of ocean that separated his island from the mainland. Silence fell over the duo as the ferry putted along, until Kaelan spoke again, surprising himself. "The ocean is so dark today... It's like the night sky minus the light of the stars. It's rather sad to look at..." Staring out the window at the glassy, flat water that looked almost black, Kaelan was at a loss for words now. It was easy talking to Catalina, oddly enough, but she was still a stranger, and he wasn't quite sure what to say to her. She was a being that his superiors looked up to, how was someone as lowly as him meant to communicate with her?

Told you I'd get you something ;D hehehe~
I'm going on a mini-hiatus soon; I'll let you know when I do okay? You can still get in touch with me via PM's if you want to plot or chat or anything! :3

( The stars, they're calling for me )

User Image
At first, Cat felt a bit awkward around Edith. Cat is shy and quiet, and Edith is so chatty. She expected it to be uncomfortable, but surprisingly, Cat found herself quickly becoming fond of the elderly woman. The corners of cat's mouth curved slightly upward in a small smile, in response to Edith's words of Cat freezing her little feet off. She felt slightly disappointed about the weather, but soon felt happy to hear Edith carried satin in night clothes. It was just what she wanted. Satin was a comfort tool to Cat, like a teddy bear would be to a young girl. Cat murmured a polite thank you as she felt her chest warm. Edith truly made Cat feel safe and strangely at home. It was strange because Cat has never really known a home like a normal girl her age would.

Catalina slightly jumped at the sudden touch of the woman taking her hand, but very quickly she relaxed and smiled in wonder and happiness. Being able to feel and know the basic outline of each piece of clothing gave her so much more confidence in her appearance. It was a lot to take in, but Catalina memorized each detail of each blouse and sweater, and every other piece of clothing. Although this all took quite a bit, Catalina was very pleased with the time spent there. Cat appreciated Edith's help, especially since Catalina was blind and it was so much more difficult to help her. Her face displayed a kind look, but didn't match her overjoyed feelings on the inside. Catalina followed Edith to the counter top, where Cat assumed she was packing the clothes together. She was reminded that Kaelan would have to pay for all this, and Cat's smile dropped into a guilty frown. She couldn't shake off the feel of her being such a burden to him. He didn't ask for such a big load, and Cat was quite a heavy one. Cat felt like it was her fault that she was brought into his life, and her head lowered a bit in shame. She was taking so much time from Kaelan, time he could have used for himself. Her thoughts ceased to thicken her guilt when Edith spoke again. Catalina lifted her head, her ears perking up. She tilted her head to the side a little in curiosity as Edith spoke of more things. Cat hadn't really thought about anything other then some clothes. She curiously waited by the counter, her ears tuning in to listen where the woman went. Her ears were distracted by the sound of Kaelan walking over. Catalina knew it was him because she could feel him, or sense him at least. Although she couldn't see auras, she could still feel them, and his was very mixed, but mostly dark. It was unique to him, and she stiffened as she felt his presence.

Cat nearly jumped out of her socks when she heard Pandora jump onto the counter. She sucked in a breath, but slowly exhaled when she heard the mew. Her back was ridged and her eyes were cast down to the floor. Not much longer after, Edith was already back with the 'other' items. The young girl's eyes widened a bit at the last item of Edith's list. Everything she listed was vital and she couldn't thank Edith enough for getting her those necessities, but to mention the last one in front of Kaelan, and say it directly to him? Cat's porcelain skin flustered red just over her cheek bones, as she bit on her lower lip. Cat heard Kaelan groan and felt slightly amused at this, but then felt bad for causing him to feel they way he felt. He was likely uncomfortable and that was the last thing Cat intended to make him feel. Cat was abruptly surprised when Kaelan cut off Edith. She shifted her feet quietly as she tuned into their conversation. He obviously hadn't lived with a woman for a while, and he didn't sound at all ready to talk about that. Cat wondered why, but wouldn't dare talk about it now, since Kaelan was not comfortable with that topic. To Cat's surprise, Edith took the interruption quite well, and seemed so motherly.

Cat didn't understand why they couldn't have gotten groceries right then, but then, she might have made him impatient with home much time they took. She felt bad, but knew she couldn't do anything about it. Cat tucked a strand of hair behind her ear that was poking her eye. She softly smiled at Edith, warmed by her cheery, home-like personality. The sound of Pandora was also warming. To think, that Cat was going to help someone, and to help them by taking care of a cat? That was a privilege, especially for a slave. Or was she still a slave? Catalina's mind raced, thinking back to when Kaelan took off her collar. Cat's attention was torn from herself and brought back to Kaelan. She faced him, a frown of wonder after he called her name. She nodded, and reached out for his arm, finding it and hooking her slender hand around the under side of his arm, a little lower than his armpit. He was warm and Catalina took advantage of the feeling of another person as best as she could. It had been a while since she'd touched someone without being scared.

Catalina was silent for the walk, thinking about the conversation that had gone on between Kaelan and Edith. A new voice caught her off guard and she lifted her head in surprise, her mouth open. Kaelan must have known this person, a male from what it sounded like. Kaelan seemed hesitant to explain Cat and she wasn't quite sure why. Was he embarrassed of her? The young girl, kept her face turned away from the man, again embarrassed of her disability. Cat felt a small breeze wisp past her, and goosebumps quickly rose up on her soft skin. The ferryman was very kind to Kaelan and Catalina began to feel like there were few in the town who liked Kaelan, the ferryman and Edith included.

Cat sat down and let go of Kaelan's arm. She stiffly sat against her seat and waited. She wasn't quite sure for what, but something. Finally, something did come. Kaelan's words. She listened to him with intrigue. Kaelan changed from hurt to happy very quickly. She squeezed her eyes shut at his words 'wish you could see it' She turned her head away from him, and sighed, a bit upset.
"I wish I could see it too." She was sensitive to things like that, but she didn't have the guts to tell him that. She was in no place for him to make her comfortable. She was his slave.. or was she? Catalina's mind raced and thought about it. She wasn't fully sure. Cat's head reeled back to him him when he spoke once more. She frowned. "I-I don't know what the night sky looks like." She felt stupid for not knowing. It was a common thing to know about a night sky.. but in all truth Cat had now idea. No one ever cared to tell her. Catalina fidgeted with her hands, looking out before her. "Why did you take my collar off? Am I still a slave..?"

{O.ut O.f C.andy} Very nice post. I liked it very much. ^_^ I hope this was okay. I was rushing myself a bit. I feel awful for taking so long. I feel like if I keep up, this is going to be a really great roleplay. Don't you agree?

He felt stupid. So ridiculously stupid and inconsiderate. Not only had he 'wished she could see' his island home, but had even assumed she knew what the night sky looked like just because she was a celestial being. Kaelan felt like a right idiot, even more so when both times Catalina had replied with sadness touching her voice. Anger was written all over the man's hidden face, but her question that shattered the silence rocked the male a little. Staring at the woman, he felt a brief touch of surprise that someone would ask that, then a flash of anger. "What?" Not the best thing to reply straight away with, but the words just tumbled out of his mouth, and the man had to catch himself, feeling his temper bubbling up inside briefly. Thankfully he caught it before it could go any further and he was able to speak with a good amount of control. "If I'd wanted a slave I'd have kept the collar on." Unfortunately, even the beginning of his statement sounded a touch grumpy, and he exhaled slowly to calm himself down. "I never... Wanted a slave. I wanted to find someone who could help me out at home.. It's just everyone on the mainland knows who I am and they sincerely don't like me. They won't step foot on my island without fear touching their hearts. The manor was the only place I could go where I could find someone who didn't know about my island.. About myself.. About anything to do with my life. You are not a slave Catalina. Not anymore." Shrugging, the ferry lurched a little as it began to align itself with the ferry port on Kaelan's island, a wickedly unseen grin crossing the man's face for a brief moment.

"Besides. The ferry is the only way off the island. It's a deathtrap if you don't know your way around."

There was no guilt in the man's voice, but there was a clear hint of something in his voice that made it less sinister than it sounded. He was used to being alone and being resented for what he was, the stigma that his powers brought along. The feel that most of the island's inhabitants got when they walked past him and felt a chill on the days he was being followed by a spirit or two, the look that those with some kind of sight gave him when a rather gruesome spirit latched onto him until they were sent on their way. The scared looks that young children gave him because they were that much more in tune with the other worlds than adults were... That was the life he lived and had grown accustom to. While it was still nagging him incessantly that Pandora had lead him to the manor in the first place and he'd even gone as far to but Catalina, he'd done it now, and as horrible as it was, he was glad she was blind. She would never see his face, she would never see his cursed scars, nor the dead look in his green eyes that he saw every night, the hollows under his eyes and his now-gaunt Irish skin. She would never see the horrid person he had become. When the ferryman called out that it was safe to disembark now, Kaelan allowed Pandora to crawl safely inside his hood once more, coming out from her hiding spot under his seat to curl tightly atop his shoulders, before he looked down to Catalina. It still made him nervous, knowing for the time being he'd have to help her out around his house by leading her around (touching another human being was something he thought he'd never do again), but with a steady hand and slightly unsteady voice he offered her his help. "Here, take my hand. It's a rough trail to my house, I don't want you getting hurt." The sudden trust that Catalina needed to put towards him from the moment they left the manor was another factor in why Kaelan's voice seemed to waver each time he asked her to take his hand or arm. Yes, it was terrible that her vision had been taken from her, and yes it was conflicting to the male that she was a being from celestial origins, the very folks that gave him his life back, but it was still tormenting to him that he felt slight twinges of joy in knowing she was blind.

The walk to Kaelan's house was a little bit longer than expected, the slowly setting sun wasn't helping Kaelan guide Catalina as safely as he would have liked. The trio got to the house without any accidents thankfully, especially thanks to Pandora who had climbed off her masters shoulders to walk by Cat's feet to guide her along. The setting sun also wasn't helping Kaelan's nerves, and was only making him even more thankful that the Celestian being was blind. He didn't like night time, he didn't like the evening. He had to view who he'd once been, in a happier life, and endure all those memories that came with his gruesomely perfect face. Kaelan liked his day face, it meant he could ignore his past easier, it was a perfect reminder and punishment for what he'd done. A jingle of keys sounded as he found his keys and unlocked the door. Next came the next hard task: the tour. 'How the hell do you show a blind person around and expect them to navigate the house straight away?' Screwing up his face under his mask, slowly feeling frustration bubble inside, a loud mew and a furry body wrapping around his legs gave him the answer, almost like she could hear his thoughts. Pandora. What would he do without his beautiful minion? Taking in a deep breath, he took his cloak off and his mask and hung them on the hooks by the front door; he'd come back for the mask later and put it in his room with the others. "I should show you around. I have things to do soon, so it won't be the longest tour. I'll... Show you around properly tomorrow." Rubbing his face, feeling regret for even buying a living being start to wash over him to mix with his frustration. Jesus he didn't need this extra stress, but what did he expect? "Let me... I'll.... I'll show you the easiest ways to get around so you won't trip. Pandora will guide you as well."

True to his word, Kaelan guided Catalina around his home. It wasn't the quickest, like he had warned, but it was oddly thorough. Pandora would bat her paws at Catalina's ankles if she got too close to an object that would trip her, or would cause her harm, and in a moment of clarity, Kaelan even got the woman to memorise how many steps it would take to get to certain points in the room. Right as the last rays of sun were fading from the sky, Kael ended the tour. His house was a bit of a winding maze, a spiral staircase lead to nothing but an overlook and Kael's bedroom. There was a chair, end table, lamp and small pile of books in old Latin on the 'balcony' in front of Kael's bedroom that overlooked the rest of the house, and the heavy wooden door was firmly shut at all times. At least his bedroom was completely disconnected from the rest of the house, aside from the staircase. It made him feel a little better, especially since there was an incredibly miniscule chance of Catalina climbing the spiral staircase to try and be sociable. "I'll take you for another tour in the morning tomorrow... It'll take you time to get used to the layout. Don't want you breaking an ankle or injuring yourself." His off-handed comment was probably most unsettling to the young woman, but that was just Kaelan's nature. He found it hard to show true compassion and true positive emotions, and found it easier to express awkward feelings through rage and other negative actions. Feeling the skin of his face warm, and around the areas of gold scarring on his body, Kaelan's breath caught in his chest. "I... I need to get some work done." Oh god why did his voice sound so pained right at this moment? "I'll turn the radio on for you... I'll return soon for dinner... Uhh... Pandora will guide you around the house, excuse me." Rushing through his last few words, Kaelan fled the room and slammed the door. The pain had begum to grow, his skin healing over as the discolourations vanished, the golden scars beginning to become new skin as his irises became their natural green again. The process was painful, like extreme pins and needles that no amount of wriggling and moving would get rid of. Walking down the garden path to the place he called 'sanctuary', there were a few cries of frustration that punctuated the night air, before silence on the island fell, except for inside the house where Pandora was trying to show Catalina she could change radio stations if she wanted by nudging the girl's hand and gently pawing it to the right buttons.

True to his word - give or take twenty minutes - Kaelan returned. He was tired, and just wanted to go straight to bed. Yet, upon seeing the fair-haired woman in his home, he felt the tiredness increase tenfold. The promise of dinner rang in his ears and he had to rub his face multiple times to find the enthusiasm to get some food together. The smoothness of his face irritated him beyond belief these days, the feeling of the raised gold scars more natural now; his punishment the norm, the norm his punishment. "S-Sorry... For being late." It sounded like the worst kind of excuse at the moment, but it was all he could manage. It wasn't fun, ferrying spirits between plains, or trying to figure out why the spirit was connected to the earthly plain, and it very often left him tired after only an hour. Still, he'd managed to solve a rather difficult one tonight, and that was at least a mild bonus. Lacking energy to really do much apart from reheating some chicken noodle soup that Edith had brought him last night - it was a weekly ritual he'd never interrupted because of the old woman's kindness - he shared out the soup equally into large soup mugs. Taking over a mug for Catalina, he held it out to her and gingerly took one of her wrists so she could find the mug. "It's... Chicken soup, with noodles. It's hot, so, be careful." Speaking softly out of tiredness more than anything, Kaelan had to force himself to eat his own portion. Dumping the mug into his sink, he almost forgot Catalina's existence again, and the hamper that Edith had promised to drop off. Heading to the front door, the man indeed found a food basket full of groceries, as well as the clothes and other supplies that had been acquired for Catalina. Dropping the girl's basket off on her bed - the guest room was under the balcony, next to the bathroom - he took the food to the kitchen and hastily unpacked everything. He'd check out the new food in the morning, he just had no energy to care at this point. It was barely ten o'clock in the evening and the man was spent. "I... I'm going to bed. Pandora will lead you to your bedroom and bathroom when you're ready to sleep. She'll keep you safe." With a few clicks the lights of the house were turned out, and Kaelan's footsteps thudded upstairs. Apart from his door opening and closing, the house fell silent. It was almost like the man was a ghost himself moving about in his room to get ready for bed. The day had been draining for the male, mentally and now physically. A good sleep would prepare him to help Catalina memorise his house in the morning, and drawing a few chalk marks here and there, the man set up a circle to make sure no spirits disturbed his sleep. It was very rare for him to do such a thing, but he wasn't prepared to introduce Catalina to his rather nasty side so soon, especially when being awoken by a spirit too stupid to figure out their own fate.

Catalina shied away the moment that Kaelan began speaking. He sounded surprised, but also very upset, better yet 'angry', in his response. She instinctively faced down, and fidgeted with her hands, pressing her nails into her skin and leaving temporary little crescent moons. Cat listened to Kael, but only paid attention to the thought that he was upset. Cat felt sympathy and pity for poor Kael, but knew that she could not change the minds of those in the village. It still bothered her why Kaelan was not very liked. Besides his so far, moody behavior, he seemed very normal-- for her standards anyways.

Kael's firmness, confirming that she was not a slave, made Cat's heart skip a beat. She was... free? Well, not technically, but she was more free then she has been in... well a very long time. If Cat could see at that moment, she'd likely look up at Kael with an expression of pure joy-her eyes tearing up and shimmering with her emotion. However, Cat just took a deep breath, holding back a soft smile, and opened her eyes to a cold, dry wind.

Cat silently promised that she'd be forever in favor to Kaelan, the man who freed her. It was a big promise, but it didn't sound like Cat was going anywhere anytime soon, so it wouldn't be very difficult to keep this promise. Cat's thoughts were pulled from herself, the moment Kaelan mentioned "deathtrap". She took a fearful gulp and directed her face away, hoping to hide the surprise and fear on her face. It was odd how easily Kaelan scared her, as well as comforted her. She couldn't figure him out and it was both frightening as well as exhilarating.

Cat stood up, once the ferryman communicated that they could now exit the boat. She was a little unstable, and teetered tot he left before stabilizing herself by leaning her right leg up against the chair she had previously been sitting on. Kaelan's offer for his hand was heartwarming, but very necessary. Cat knew it was just for the purpose of them getting to the house safely, but Cat hasn't been treated so fairly in so long, and dreamed that all this was more than what it was. It almost sounded like Kaelan cared, when he mentioned that he didn't want Cat getting hurt. Her master before her said many things of that nature, but she was never fooled. They cared only for the money they'd save if there were no injuries to their slave. Cat wondered if Kaelan was wondering the same thing-- if he was doing all this for his own gain. It wouldn't hurt too much if that was true. It has always been that way before.

The touch of Kaelan's much larger hand, soft and warm, was quite nice. Cat was surprised how small and fragile her hands were compared to his, but yet, her hand seemed to wrap around his own perfectly. Her slender fingers lightly clung to his skin, her warmth radiating to his skin, and his to her's. As ghey walked, Cat was careful to pick her feet up a little higher than usual. She knew this path was for the most part, natural, and feared for rocks and obstacles. She didn't take falls lightly, know matter how small. The cool air whipped against her skin, and the potent odor of plants and dirt, along with water and fish filled her nose. Cat took a good breath of air, good air, unlike the air in a cellar, basement, or in the manor. Cat has been cooped up for far too long. This little 'walk' gave her the biggest treat she's had in years -- fresh air. Her body seemed very pleased with the change in air quality as well, her lungs filling up with more air than normal.

Pandora's help to Kaelan's home was more than helpful, and Cat didn't know how to express to the cat how thankful she was. Before she could come up with anything, they were already at a stop, and she could hear Kaelan messing with something noisy. She could only assume it might be the key to the lock on the front door. Cat wasn't very familiar with these machines, but she knew of them only because the slave's doors were locked at all times.. Cat was not very excited about the tour -- It always took her a very long time to truly get a good feel for where everything was. However, Cat was very curious as to what kind of house Kael would live in, so that made up for the dread she was feeling. Another feeling washed over Cat for what seemed the millionth time today -- anger. Anger that she was so dependent on others; on Kael.
Oh poor Kael. He's looking for help to ease the stress of taking care of Pandora. Now, for a while, he has to take care of both Pandora and I. Cat bit down on her bottom lip, frustration and sadness bubbling inside of her. She wanted to apologize, to plead for his acceptance.. But how? He certainly did not seem in the mood for much and Cat was already battling her own frustrations.

Cat followed Kaelan around his house, her mind soaking up the directions, the amount of steps, and feel of the flooring-- everything. There was no time for self-pity, so Cat shoved her feelings away and just listened and did as directed. She was very surprised at first, when Pandora touched her ankles when she seemed to veer off. Cat was thankful, but needless to say, Pandora nearly gave her a heart attack. Cat didn't realize how long they'd been touring the house before Kael ended the tour abruptly and announced that he needed to depart. Cat still pondered over his rough statement of him not wanting her to break and ankle. Cat was shocked how causally this was said, but again, Cat was not familiar with Kael's personality. If this was his true self, it'd take some time to get used to, for sure. Cat listened to Kael's steps as he hurried out of the house. Had Cat done something to scare him away? He sounded so strange in those last moments, and it truly bothered Cat. Every other minute, it felt like she had caused her master, no, her companion, to be upset. She furrowed her eyebrows as she thought about this, awkwardly standing there in the center of the living room.

Suddenly, Cat heard something disturb her thoughts. Music. She turned to where it was coming from, and carefully shuffled her steps towards it, finding a little machine on the living room center table. Pandora's fur slid against Cat's reaching arm, and before Cat could process what was happening, Pandora was showing her how to twist a knob, that apparently changed the music. Cat twisted for a few moments, searching for a station with good clarity. Before long, she landed on a station with soft, slow music. She paused, listening to the song that played. It wasn't like anything she's ever heard before. Of course, Cat was used to the harp and tavern music from Valhalla. She'd only heard Earth-music once before, and it seemed to be a stringed instrument and a woman singing, in a park in a past down she'd traveled through. But this, this song was very different indeed. Cat adjusted her position on the couch where she'd been sitting, and moved her hand down tot he glass table that the radio rested on. The surface was cold, and the edges sharp. Cat made a note to be aware of that while walking in this area. Cat then leaned back and spread her arms over the couch, and its pillows. Her curious hands patted and slid over every surface around, and not before long, cat's interest was lost. She sighed, and slid her hand over Pandora's back, gently petting the feline before patting a little spot next to her on the couch for the cat to come. Cat didn't know Pandora very well, but she knew cats quite well. And it seemed like Pandora liked Cat enough to let her touch and play with the feline. At least, Cat hoped so. It would be very lonely if the cat decided she disliked Catalina. Of course, Cat was used to loneliness. Cat slipped her slippers off, and pulled her legs up onto the couch, stretching her body length over the comfy cushions.

Just as Cat made herself comfortable, the door opened and a tired Kael entered the home. Cat leaned forward, and turned down the music, still stroking Pandora's silky fur. Catalina was unsure exactly why Kael had believe he was late-- Cat was expecting a much longer break. She wasn't necessarily aware of what he was doing while he was away, but she was a patient soul, and was aware that he likely would have taken a much longer time.
"It-It's okay. I, I don't mind" Cat murmured quietly as Kael made his way to the kitchen. She combed her fingers through the longer lengths of her hair, her fingers running straight through the shimmering locks without a tangle-- The advantage of having such thin and soft hair. She criss-crossed her legs and sat up straight against the couch as she heard Kaelan near. Her body stiffened when she felt his touch on her wrist, but soon fell victim to the warm touch o his skin and relaxed her posture. Her hand wrapped around a warm, steaming mug, listening to his words carefully, she blew on the soup several times before she felt safe to take a sip. The liquid was hot, and Cat scrunched her face together as she swallowed the last bit in her mouth. He had warned her, but she was at fault for not being more cautious. No matter how hot the soup was, she still found it incredibly delicious. For it being the first time ever having food of this nature, she really, really enjoyed it. Cat slurped down the small noodles with cute punctuation. Her eyes closed shut in happiness as she hummed her pleasure with the food. The food was gone faster than Cat thought was possible-- she was never a big eater. This likely was because she was never actually fed enough.

Just as she was swallowing the last of the broth, Cat heard Kaelan moving about once more. From the sound of the front door opening, she thought for a moment that he might be leaving her once more, this time without a warning. Instead, he came back in, and walked from room to room. Cat's curiosity devoured her, but she just bit down on her lip and set her mug on the living room table. Just as she did so, Kaelan was back, and was speaking once more. Cat looked in the direction of his voice, her blank blue-gray eyes staring out at nothing. Cat gingerly nodded, assuring Kaelan that she understand what he had spoken. She felt a warmth, knowing that she'd at least have Pandora to accompany her on her first night in her new home. It was so different for the girl. Cat waited for Kaelan to leave to his bedroom, before she picked up her mug, and counted her steps into the entrance of the kitchen. She swayed and bumped against the corner of a couch only a couple times, making it to the kitchen alive. She placed her hand on the counter, and walked until her hand felt a bump, and then a large whole. This, she hoped, was the sink. Cat gently placed her mug next to Kaelan's and then felt her way back out of the kitchen, feeling Pandora in between her feet, guiding her to her room. On the way Cat picked up her slippers she left by the couch, and with a few moments of pressing random buttons, found out how to turn off the radio.

Cat plopped onto her bed, only to find that there was a basket of the things Edith gathered for her, along with her clothes. Cat set the basket up against a wall for now, and searched through the clothes for the first pair of pajamas that she could find. Her hands ended up grabbing a soft silky top, and matching silky pants. From what she could recall, Edith mentioned them being a dark purple, with white buttons and black lining. Cat slipped her skirt down her legs, dropping it to the floor along with her leggings and changing into new undergarments. As soon as Cat slipped into the silky pants, she felt a tickle up her spine, from delight. It was such a beautiful-feeling material. If only she could see the fine material. Just as Cat was unbuttoning her blouse, a wave of realization fell on top of her-- Her corset. It was hard enough getting one off in general, but by yourself? She'd be there all night. Cat paused and thought about her options. With a quick decision, she left the corset alone, and just buttoned up the silk pajama top over it. Problem solved... for now. Cat picked up her older clothes and set them in a separate pile from the new clothes. She honestly didn't know if she'd ever wear them again. Not with all these new and much better clothes.

As Cat crawled her way under her own covers, she could hear a loud thrust of wind hit her side of the house. She tried to ignore the wind- it wasn't going to hurt her, she assured herself. Cat hummed quietly to herself, trying to block the sound of the wind and distant thunder from her mind. Just like every single night, her mind reeled, thoughts of her past haunting her soul. Visions of Valhalla and memories of her past master-Damien-caused a few tears to trickle down her face. Each memory felt like a stab wound in her sides, betrayal and guilt haunting her more than any ghost ever could. Cat sniffled and wiped her tears with the back of her hand, before she began to hum again. Her voice cracked here and there, still emotional from her regrets. Cat couldn't believe how fortunate she was, to now be in a new home, under much better circumstances than before. And here she was, pitying herself. Cat took a big deep breath, and plummeted into sleep, stress and emotion taking its toll.

As Cat slept, the storm began to truly brew. Just as the ferryman had said, the waves crashed loudly against the island, spraying all over. Wind whipped and thrust against the old church, and light rain showered over the land. A single lightening bolt struck out, the thunder following it crackling and booming. The vibrations could be felt from the bed that Cat slept in. Her eyes shot open and she scooted far up against the headboard of the bed. She huffed and puffed, gasping in surprise from being ripped out of a nightmare. Before she could ask why she had been woken, thunder boomed so loud that Cat's head rang. Her body jumped from the abrupt noise and she involuntarily shrieked, holding her arms up above her head in defense. Cat's eyes teared up, fright chilling her bones. She'd never been truly exposed to the Earth's elements, being held in cellars and basements and such. Another lighting strike hit the Earth nearby, and the Thunder roared to life, this one much more lively and angry. Cat screamed and cried this time, throwing herself off the bed and crawling into the corner of the room. She pulled her knees up to her breasts, and wrapped her arms around her shins, shoving her face in her legs, hiding from the noises all around her. The clothes she wore, smelled a lot like Edith's shop, which helped a little in comforting her. Cat began to hyperventilate, shrieking each time thunder shook the house, her fright so strong, that her toes dug into the soft carpet. Cat's body shook with cries, her silvery hair cascading over her legs, hiding her distraught face.
