Saved a baby duckling from a cat outside our window. We called a bunch of places, and the wildlife centre suggested trying to find its nest (tried, but we've never seen ducks around here, no idea where this one came from) and if that failed, try to find another group of baby ducks (our town actively tries to keep down the bird populations by sabotaging eggs, so no baby ducks to be found in the areas we see adult ducks).

They're closed until tomorrow, and besides which we have no clue how to get it there without a car. We emailed (and reverse looked up and called and left a voicemail) someone who was looking to take in ducks, but no response yet. (update: they don't want a wild duck, something about diseases. She seems to think we can keep it alive through the night without a heat lamp)

This baby duck is crazy. And it's driving ME crazy. We've put it in a small critter-keeper (plastic aquarium type box) we had, but every time I stop touching this duck or take the box off my lap, it flips out and tries to peck its way out through the plastic and jumps trying to get out. It won't relax unless I'm holding it, and theres no way for me to do that all day and night!

We don't have the recommended food or food/water dishes or heating lamps, and there's no farm feed store in town to go get them from. I've googled but everything assumes I've got access to duck raising supplies.

Anyone with tips please let me know.

Edit: found a wound on it's back, doesn't look severe but called around and found a vet willing to check the duck out after-hours. Will update when husband gets home. He's going to see if the vet can care for the duck until the wildlife place can get it tomorrow or monday maybe.

Second Update:

The duck is staying at the vet's. They said they would deal with getting it to the wildlife centre if it made it through this.

So glad it's somewhere with people that know what it needs and can provide them.

That is so sweet of you doing what you can to care for that little duck. I hope things turn out okay for it. Maybe the wildlife place can place it with an adoptive duck family.
