Spring is in full bloom -- ducks and a frightfully temperamental swan are invading his reflective pool -- when the urge for company strikes him. The idea of movement, of searching for a (less beautiful) companion however is unpleasant and he turns to his reflection. With the sun glinting on the water, he sparkles.

"Why could there not have been two of me?" he asks. "A twin." It sounds like a splendid thought but then maybe not. He sighs. "No one could ever be so pretty as I." he decides. Not even a sister.

That still leaves the problem of company.

She slowly approached him from behind, dragging her tail softly through the dried leaves to announce her arrival. It was then she heard him talk and respond and even state a follow-up. Intrigued she ventured forward until she was abreast with the buck. Looking into the water, she saw only their reflections. Confused, she used her tail to dip thinking it might activate or somehow make her see whoever it was he was talking to. She only got ripples for her troubles.

Perplexed, she turned to the buck. "Who are you talking to?"

While the sound alerts him to her presence, he doesn't turn to her until her reflection appears beside his own. It's the horns that catch his attention -- branches sprouting from her head. He regards her carefully; she is not quite what he would have dreamt but she is attractive. (Not attractive as he but who can be? Absolutely no one.)

"Myself," he replies. "And who might you be?"

She was momentarily stunned by his answer as she slid that new piece of info in with the dialogue she just witnessed. Figuring the self-obsessed buck wouldn't remember her name anyway she answered playfully and with deadpan finesse, "I am ME."

The wind blew on as if encouraging her, scattering the ripples further and further away.

"Quite an unremarkable name. Surely you can do better than that." He lifts a brow and does his best to ignore the fracturing of his reflection. She must be unable to handle two handsome bucks.

"But ME is a nice name. We can't all have nice names like you. I'm sure your name is just as beautiful as you are." Slight mocking could be her in her tone as she sagely nodded with huge eyes and scored her tail in the ground beside her.

He preens. On some level he is aware of the mocking that infuses her tone; he assumes her sight is less than exemplary. No one she bugs her eyes out. "My name is perfectly lovely, as am I." He nods in agreement then looks her over once more, "Shall I call you Bugeye or Imp? Me won't do." (He might get confused.)

Ok. She drew first blood. That insult was warranted. But Bug eye? She huffed inwardly. "Awesome Star is my name."

He emits a "hmm," in thought and then nods. "Star," his voice tries it out -- the neglect of the description is on purpose, "I am Vainmoon." He oozes pride to the point of cockiness at his fine moniker. And his smile is much more a leer than anything else. "You must have been lost without me. Whatever would a star do without the moon?" he queries because he can't help himself.

"Why don't you know I have the Sun to turn to? Thank goodness for that shining beacon. Sun's bigger and bigger is better." At this point, Scavenger is totally unaware of what a pervert she sounds like.

He snorts, derisive. "Foolish star, then. The sun is blistering and fickle. It'd tear you in two and burn you to ash." Amusement curves his mouth and his grin turns just shy of lecherous. "If that's what you like, I could try," he teases.

Oh my. Someone wanted to shine today. She was surprised the buck didn't spontaneously combust on the spot from such a line. She was dying from second hand embarrassment. "Luckily for me, the moon hides for most of the time. Probably hiding some huge disfigurement."

And one for the doe.

His grin fell away and he shook out his mane. "The moon is always visible. Even to the blind." Condescension colors his voice and he turns his back to the doe, eyes seeking out his reflection.

Effectively dismissed and incensed, the doe pushes her body against his, willing it into the water. If he wanted his reflection so badly, she was more than happy to acquiesce!

evens he falls in, odds not so much he needs a cooldown anyway :3
Surprise burns into him as he digs his hooves into the bank's edge -- hooves sliding against mud. He manages to hold firm until his temper rears up and he tries to whirl on the pink doe. It's only a split second but when his left front hoof does not move and his right does, he ends up falling sideways.

A splash of cool water envelopes him as he tumbles into his pond and he feels rage and insult break. A loud rumble of laughter, which sounds more like a scoff, erupts and he stands, dripping and soaked. "Brazen, aren't you?" And his eyes narrow just slightly; he's thinking of payback.
