The cave was indeed damp inside, and there was plenty of cobwebs to go around. Giant, nasty cobwebs, mind you. Thankfully Ainsley had his torch and he easily burned past whatever webs had gotten in his way. His mind was a bit clearer since the first Bognotti, though it wasn't that much better. It was sort of healing, unfortunately at the cost of that last Bognotti's life, and whatever other creature he might come upon as he navigated through this cave. Displacement, they called it, and Ainsley was perfectly alright with that. As long as he left with a clearer head, then it didn't matter what creature died. Besides, Bognotti were considered pests anyway, so as far as he was concerned he was doing Serenia a small favor. Very, very small.
The next spider came crawling up from behind him, and he sensed it just in time before it literally dropped in on him. His axe at the ready, the boy swung and missed, and he and the spider sparred for a time.
"Stupid spider!" he yelled at it while it seemed to return in kind with some sort of screechy sound. It gave him goosebumps, the sound, but nevertheless he swung again, this time making contact. Unfortunately, the spider, although injured, didn't seem to take the hit happily. It recoiled and crawled back up the walls, only to re-emerge from behind and bite into his shoulder. Ainsley howled out in pain and swung his axe upward from behind him, making contact with spidery flesh once again. The spider backed away, clearly injured, but Ainsley was a bit more worse for wear, so he hurried on down a tunnel, his shoulder slightly limp and immovable at the moment. When the coast was clear, or relatively so, the boy sat and nursed his now injured shoulder, cursing the spiders that he assumed were living in that cave.
It would be about two hours before he began to move on again...
