It's dark, dusty, and smells like chemically preserved corpses. This is all the reason people need to never go here. The room hasn't been used by the morgue staff in so long, none of the lights work properly. Once you can see, the room is just a few aisles of dusty old boxes of obsolete supplies and out of date medication. Most of these boxes are covered in dust tarps so dusty that they are little more than sheets of dust at this point. Towards the back, there is a large box marked "XL Syringes". The dust around this box is much lighter, as if it has been disturbed more recently than the rest. The box seems to contain something extremely heavy, as it cannot be moved. Strangely, it is locked; and has a keyhole on the side.

Squad Four Captain: Jisaku MorimotoThe door creaked open and Jisaku Morimoto stepped into the basement for the first time. The smell of the place was so horribly pungent, he had to cover his nose with his sleeve. He could hear each of his steps echo as he walked down the stairs and he couldn't help but think... Why am I wearing sandals down here? I should've gotten some galoshes. He looked to the left and right, seeing boxes of supplies that no one really used anymore. A look down reveals that he could see his footprints in the dust. Why am I down here? He answered his own question when he eventually found a large box labeled "XL Syringes". He noticed that there wasn't as much dust on it, meaning it was moved more recently. As he got closer, Jisaku furrowed his eyebrows and grit his teeth. He saw there was a lock on the side made of the same brass they key was made of. Jisaku moved the key to the lock, but stopped at the last second and tilted his head back going, "Why am I doing this? I don't want what's in here! I have plenty of syringes!" Regardless, his curiosity got the best of him. He groaned and took the key out of his chest, unlocked it, and opened the lid. The amount of dust that came off it made Jisaku cough a few times before actually looking inside. This was either going to be really good or really gross.

The box was bottomless and bolted to the ground around a hole in the floor. The hole is deep, and a ladder is set on the side of it. It's large enough for a single person to climb down.

Squad Four Captain: Jisaku MorimotoInstead of something weird or grody, as you would expect in a morgue, Jisaku saw a passageway and a ladder leading down into it. He couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. She sure went out of her way to dig this hole. With no other option, Jisaku hopped in and started to climb down the ladder. This thing seemed deep enough to lead into the sewers.

At the bottom of the ladder, motion activated lights flickered on to show the entire room. The ladder is in the middle of the room. Facing away from the ladder, Jisaku will see most of the wall covered in shelves containing folders, books, and poster tubes. Inside these are maps of the seireitei, rukongai, and sewer systems; copies of private information on influential people; and enough evidence to jail most of the Central 46 and a good chunk of the Gotei. To the left of these is a small generator puttering away to power the lights. Also attached is a small refrigerator, empty of course. To the right of the shelves is a sight that would raise an eyebrow or two. A makeshift hospital bed on the ground surrounded by a section of rock with long dried blood seeped into it. There were dust covered supplies of disinfectant and other tools which a medical professional would recognize as the tools needed for childbirth. They were clearly used once long ago, but when and by who is a mystery. The final side of the room is a well lit desk and chair. On it is a short stack of notebooks and a letter on top addressed to Jisaku. Most of the room is somewhat dusty and the air smells old, as if it hasn't seen much use in a long time.

Squad Four Captain: Jisaku MorimotoJisaku's eyes went as wide as dinner plates as he reached the bottom. "Whoa..." Down here was a well lit room with most of the wall covered in shelves with books, folders, and whatnot. Jisaku couldn't help but wonder what this wonderous place was. Perhaps this was used before the Medical Bay was made. He took out one of the books and opened it. There were all sorts of papers inside with some, to say the least, controversial information that could put the Gotei 13 in jeopardy...as if it wasn't a short 15 minutes ago. Gatomaru would definitely want to see this. To the right of the shelves, Jisaku raised an eyebrow. There was a makeshift medical bed with blood on it. What really caught his attention was the supplies around it. These were the standard tools used for childbirth. So someone was born down here? Was it Omekata-san?Jisaku would likely find his answer when he found the desk and chair. There was a short stack of notebooks and a letter with Jisaku's name on it. Someone went to a lot of trouble to keep all this hidden... First thing's first. He took the letter and opened it, adjusting his glasses before skimming it over.

The letter reads as follows:
---------
Dear Jisaku,
If you're reading this, then I've been killed. I hope to be able to retrieve this information without consequence, but I'm well aware that I can easily fail at this stage of things.
To begin with, you were smart to open the box yourself. I had rigged the lock with a trap that, should anyone but me or you unlock the box, the building would be collapsed and this room incinerated. As an apology for rigging explosives in your buildings, feel free to use the blackmail material on the opposite wall. I keep some in every one of my dead drops in case I need to back up a threat or somebody tries to have me impeached again.
Returning to the point, I've left summaries of the full extent of what I've discovered about the Observers here in these diaries. I plan to reveal some of what I know soon, so that they will send someone to silence me and prevent any further investigations. The plan is to subdue this assassin and wring further information out of it. Should I fail, or should the unexpected occur, I leave it to you to ensure this information is used to its fullest extent.
I must say
Jisaku
I enjoyed working with you, and I hope to do so again in the future.
-Omekata Zanzo -Kasugano Aoi
p.s. If I'm dead, then I may as well use my actual name instead of my nickname for once. I don't think that's asking for much, is it?
---------
Underneath the letter, are four notebooks labeled "Observer Suspects", "History", "Organization", and "Suggested Plans of Action"

Jisaku scowled at the letter when he read the part about the explosives. You suck, Omekata! He had to hold back the urge to crumple the letter and continued reading instead. Apparently, she had been using his own basement (somehow without his knowledge) to compile information on the Observers. A lot of information. Eventually, he reached the end and was surprised to see that Omekata Zanzo was not her real name. "I'll be damned." He pocketed the letter in his robe and opened up the first notebook labeled "Observer Suspects." There was some surprising information in there. Despite the way she...uh...conducts business, she wasn't in charge of Squad Eight (Archives and Tactical Planning) for nothing.

On one page is a picture that would catch Jisaku's eye. The picture is of an albino young man the description names as "Akise Aru", a quincy in Karakura. The picture will look familiar, as Jisaku has seen that face before.
He saw that face when fighting Gluttony.

He recognized the face. He had aged a slight bit, but that was definitely Gluttony, without a doubt. Jisaku snapped the notebook shut, picked up the others, and carefully climbed the ladder back up. He needed to see Gatomaru quickly. And this place was filthy.
