Recently I sat down and explained a story idea I had to a friend. After I was done explaining it to him the first time I had to do so again, and then a third time before he finally gave up trying to understand.
His finally comment was "sounds like the story is too complicated for you even. I honestly think you try to put too much in your stories"

I usually have a main main character for anything I write but the story is usually told from the point of view of 2-5 different characters through out the story. Each has a back story that will somehow directly effect them in the future. My friend tells me I try to make my stories to complex and that I try to make to many plot twist. But truthfully I don't try for it to happen. I just start writing and that's how it ends up.

I know this is all really vague and I probably explain properly. It's just I'm currently writing out an outline for a novel I'm going to try to type up during Camp Nano and I don't know if I'm going overboard with it or not. So if anyone wants to help me figure it out could you please post in here and I'll post the idea I'm working on.

T-T I hope I'm not overdoing it again.

Well if you can understand it, then it can't be overly complicated. It's when you get to the point you are confusing yourself that you need to step back and draw a diagram out.

My story will probably have quite a few different points of view. The plot is between two different groups right now. I just have to make sure okay, these people are together, these aren't. When I switch chapters/pov's the chapter's title has the characters name in it.

I was also told by the wonderful people here biggrin sometimes stories just need to sit down with people and explain things. While they might make sense for you, other people might not know that a blark is a squirrel.

Yes, talking out a story with someone is always helpful ^_^. Wanna help me?

My story switches between two main groups as well with a few random people thrown in as well. I fully understand my story and know how I want it to end as well as some things I wish to see happen in it, but not everything is completely thought out.

I'd be very grateful if you could help me. crying

I'll help you as much as I can biggrin Details are usually my specialty! Getting them into story form though takes me a lot of work.

I know that I'll have more and more people entering the story and the groups, eventually I hope that the groups will intermingle. I've heard that sometimes it's better to start a story from the end and work backward. Or perhaps just table it out. Group A - Group A's problem - Who, What, Where, When, Why - Information needed - People needed - Location needed to be - Group weaknesses. That's usually what I do. Then if there are villain's it's: Is there a group hierarchy? If so list them from boss to lackey. Who does what? What are their goals overall? Strengths and weaknesses. Compare and contrast the two and do the same to the other groups or people.

I never thought to do all that. I mean I made a list of who was in what group, strength/weaknesses, but I never really decided what role they would play inside the group.
Group A is all boys and group B is girls. Group A doesn't really have a leader I guess ;_;....I think I should pm you so that I can explain this all better.
