Oloneric felt like he was on cloud nine...still. Ever since he had found out that he and Whisper were expecting foals he was filled with such joy, and of course a small amount of nerves and fears. They had decided to go on a trip away from the shrine Whisper had called home since she had been a foal and see new parts of these lands. It had been a trip that would have lasted them a few months to see everything that they wanted to, but when the great news had been told to him Oloneric insisted on cutting the trip short and returning to his home. He did not want his foals to be born and raised out in the middle of unknown lands, away from family and help. But of course with each passing day as Whisper's belly grew larger Olo worried that might just happen. So when home had finally come into view in the far distance a few days ago he was thrilled. They were almost there and Whisper and his foals would be safe.
"Are you tired? Do you need to rest? Or eat? We can stop if you need to. You're not too hot are you? There's some shade up ahead if you need it." Oloneric was so worried what all this traveling would do to Whisper and the foals, she kept insisting everything was fine but he just couldn't help voicing his constant fears.
Whisper's excitement over starting their family matched and exceeded Oloneric's. They had been trying for some time now and it seemed that fate decided to wait until they were the farthest part from the either of their homes before blessing them with this pregnancy. While she had wanted to continue their travels Whisper understood Olo's insistence of returning to the herd. There they would have the support of the family and they could help if needed with anything that came up. Looking over at Olo as he asked those same questions for what felt like the millionth time since they found out Whisper smiled lovingly at her mate.
"I'm fine, you needn't worry. You know that if I am tired or hungry or anything else I will let you know." Stretching her neck she gave him a quick nuzzle. The weight of the foals did slow her down, especially with such a tiny frame to carry the extra bulk with, but she carried it happily and proudly. Soon she would have little foals, their foals, running around, they would be able to teach them about nature and everything else that was important to them. "I can't wait to tell your family." She said as they came closer to where the herd called home. It had been something they had talked about and decided upon after they had found out, they instead of returning to the shrine where she grew up, that they would go and live with his family and raise their foals there. Once they were old enough they would take them to visit her mother at the shrine but the herd seemed like the best place to call home now.

"I'm sure they will all be thrilled at the news...maybe even Syrrin will be a good Uncle to them." Letting out a soft sigh Olo nuzzled his mate as they walked. "You know I worry about you, about them and I won't stop worrying, not until they are in their baskets. And then I will worry about them until they come out of them, then I will worry about them as they grow." He let out another sigh. As excited as he was to have this family with Whisper he was also worried, obviously. His father hadn't been around when he and Syrrin had grown up and while his grandfather had helped to fill that gap he wondered how good of a father he would be. "I just want to raise them right, make sure they will be happy and well loved."
Whisper gave him a loving smile. She understood completely where his worries were coming from, she was worried too, as most parents were at some point in their lives but she tried not to voice those worries. Whisper knew that his deepest worry was how good of a father he would be, something he had voiced concern over shortly after they found out she was pregnant. "I can't think of a more loving, happy and perfect place to raise them than with your families herd Olo. They will have so many others to watch over them to share love with, to teach them about the world." She stepped closer, her large belly brushing up against his side as they walked. "And you will be the best father too. I have total faith in you."

"I know." He said with a smile and then glanced between them, looking at her swollen belly pressed against him. "They will want for nothing there and be so loved they will never know anything else. And...I will be a good father to them." He said with a smile, even though he still felt fear and worry over this he would not let that ruin his happiness.
They walked for a while longer and soon arrived within the herd territory. Things hadn't changed much since the last time they had been here. This was always such a beautiful and quiet place and Olo counted himself lucky that he had been raised here. As they moved through the territory Olo kept his eyes out for members of his family, though at this time of day they were likely spread out attending duties. Following a winding trail Olo took a deep breath. There was a new set of nervousness coursing through his veins, he knew his family would be thrilled with the news but he just couldn't help being nervous about telling them, even though it would only take a single look at Whisper to figure it out. Turning off of the wider trail Olo followed a narrower one leading Whisper close to where his sister could often be found. He was proud of Lapin for choosing the path of a healer and since her clearing was they first they would come across it was a logical first stop. Stepping out of the trees Olo spotted his sister busily working, putting herbs into a trees hollow. "There's my energetic sister!" He called out happily to her as he crossed the clearing with Whisper trailing behind him.
Whisper could see the excitement of being hole roll off of Olo in waves. She loved this place just as much as she loved her Shrine home, but this was the best place to raise the foals so they had come here. She would need to send word to her mother about the pregnancy but at the moment sharing the news with Olo's family was priority. She followed quietly behind Olo as he took her along the trails that led deeper into the herds territory. When they emerged into a clearing and he called out to his sister Whisper looked towards the younger mare with a smile, Lapin seemed to really enjoy her work as a healer and she was glad to have someone close to Olo to turn to should anything go wrong.
Stepping out from behind Olo Whisper waited for the young mare to finish her job before greeting her. "It's so nice to see you again Lapin." Her smile was wide and she wondered just how long it would take for the news to spread like wildfire once Lapin saw her.

With with onset of afternoon Lapin busied herself with finishing up her organizing of her herbs so that she could go check on Syrrin's baskets. It didn't matter that both tasks involved being in the same small clearing but unless the baskets showed any sign of needing her immediate attention then Lapin wanted to concentrate on one thing at a time. While she prided herself on always having a full stockpile of herbs she had gone a bit overboard in collecting them since the baskets came. She wanted to make sure that if the foals needed any sort of treatment she would be well prepared for that or any other emergency when the foals decided to make their entrance into the world.
Separating the last remaining of her herbs into proper piles Lapin then set about placing each of the herbs in it's designated spot around the clearing. Some herbs could not be mixed with others, so she used every hollow and hiding place to stash the plants until they were needed. Glancing over at the baskets where they lay hidden under some bushes, Lapin picked up another pile of herbs and placed them carefully within an hollow of an old tree. As she tucked away the herbs Lapin heard a voice she had not expected to hear for a while. Quickly shoving the herbs in the hole Lapin spun around to see Olo walking across the clearing a dumb smile splattered across his face. "I thought you were off seeing the sites with Whisper." At the mention of Whisper's name Lapin saw the small mare behind Olo. "Hello Whisper." She began to walk towards them when Whisper stepped out and...it did not take a healer to see what condition Whisper was in. Holy crap! First Syrrin and then Olo and Whisper now! This family was getting crazy huge all at once. "Mom!" Lapin yelled without thinking as she stared at Whisper's swollen belly.

Synestra still wasn't sure what had gotten into that thick skull of her sons head but she could not deny that the idea of being a grandmother was appealing to her. Oh she had hoped something like this would come a bit later in life, and honestly if anyone were to have baskets she figured it would be Olo and Whisper, not Syrrin with some strange mare, but there wasn't much she could do about that. It was good to see Lapin was taking charge in keeping track of the baskets now that they were safely within the herds territory. Even so she had seen that patrols were made more often in case that crazy mare came looking for Syrrin and the baskets. Those were her grandchildren and she would not allow anything bad to happen to them.
She had just returned from a patrol of the far side of the territory and was heading to see her father and Syrrin when Lapin's voice rang out across the trees. Was that danger? Were the baskets opening early? "Syrrin! Dad! Poe!" Syn called out as she turned quickly and raced towards the clearing where Lapin was. Please let everything be alright, she thought.

Chev was tired..Syn had insisted on doubling the patrols around the herds little meadow and even if he could deny his daughter anything she wished he wouldn't have in this case anyways. Not with new baskets to protect..of course doubling the amount of patrols did not double the number of hooves available to do it and as a result his own workload had all but doubled in the last little while.
Oh well..it would be worth it when they baskets opened. He was sure..foals were always a blessing. He was just returning from one of those extra patrols when Syn's voice called for him and no matter how tired he was Chev wasn't about to be slow now. Her voice had a tinge of worry in it..had something happened to the baskets? Were they opening early?...had Syrrins mysterious and clearly dangerous fling shown up? Bolting across the meadow he came skidding into the clearing. "What is it?!? Whats happening?!?" He demanded, barely noticing the additions to the herd in his search for danger.
"I'm coming! I'm coming!" Syrrin called out as his mother suddenly demanded his presence..and then bolted towards the clearing where his baskets were being kept. Nothing was wrong though right? Lapin would have come and told him right? Of course she would..his sister might be a pest but he had grudgingly decided she was a pretty good healer anyways.
None the less he picked up the pace and trotted quickly across towards the clearing where the rest of the herd was quickly gather, swerving sideways to keep from being run over by his grandfather. Of course while his grandfather was busy looking for danger, Syrrin was able to spot the noticeable difference in herd size. It seemed his brother was home and my..my my my...looked like he might be off the hook with the whole 'what on earth made you think you were ready for baskets?!?' speech.
"Grandpa!" He shouted at chev to try and get his attention. "Grandpa! look..Olo's home and he's brought Whisper with him." He stated, trying to slyly bring Whispers condition into the forefront. He loved his brother however and couldn't help but give him a welcoming and even congratulatory look.
Everyone was yelling! And running around! Something horrible was likely happening and while a part of Poe wanted to run away from it all, the rest of her didn't want to be stuck alone while everyone else was gathered in the healing clearing where those scary baskets were being kept.
They were probably opening to reveal the monsters inside, oh sure everyone kept saying the foals would be fune..but Poe had heard the stories and until she saw them for herself she was going to keep a healthy respect for the possible demon spawn thank you very much!. Slinking through the brush she kept to the very outskirts of the gathering, nervously staying on the far side of the clearing away from those...possible monster spawned baskets. As a result she could barely make out the voices of those gathered and when they all seemed to be excited about something and no one was getting eaten she took the chance and inched a few steps closer to see what was going on.

Syn arrived at the clearing about the same time as her father and her eyes instantly darted around looking for trouble while Chev demanded to know what was going on. She could see the baskets were still tucked safely under the bushes, so it wasn't that they were opening early, then she looked towards Lapin, then followed her daughters gaze to Olo and Whisper. Relief flooded over her for a moment when she saw the cause of the commotion was nothing more than her son's return home with his mate. "Welcome home you two!" She called happily to the couple and then began to walk forward. As Whisper came fully into view and Synestra saw the small mares condition. "Whisper! Olo! Oh my goodness! You're going to have foals! Congratulations!" Syn was so thrilled with this that she hurried forward and gave each of them a loving nuzzle. Now there was no doubt about it, she was going to be a grandmother...twice over.
Her call had not only brought her mother running but the entire family it would seem. Well best they all come anyways. "Nothings happening...yet." Lapin told her grandfather then looked to Syrrin. Of course course mother was thrilled with the news once she realized what was happening, Syrrin looked almost relieved - probably hoping this would mean all attention would shift from him to Olo and Whisper, Poe looked frightened and grandpa looked ready to strike out at some unseen enemy. Lapin gave her head a shake and let her gaze settle back on Whisper. "Now I'm really going to be busy." Two baskets from Syrrin and however many baskets that Whisper ended up having, if she didn't learn about baskets and foals from this experience then she never would.
This was not at all the reaction Olo had been expecting. One second his sister seemed happy to see him and Whisper and the next she was yelling for their mom. What was going on? And then he heard the echoing calls of his mother, followed by his grandfather and brother. They were acting like the herd was under attack and Olo was starting to feel like coming here might not have been such a good idea. But that was ridiculous, this meadow had always been safe.
As the confusion turned to something new Olo smiled at his brother and then turned his attention to him mother. "We wanted to surprise you, but this is not quite how we imagined it. I hope you are ready to be a grandmother." He said giving his mother a nuzzle and then one to Whisper. That's when he noticed Poe coming in slowly from the background. "Poe." He called out to his quiet sister. "Come over here." He paused for a moment and then just had to ask. "Why did all of you rush here? And Lapin why did you call out like that? Is everything alright?" He couldn't afford to have a dangerous environment for his foals to grow up in.
Well this was certainly an interesting way to let everyone know the good news. When the rush of the family arriving subsided and everyone seemed to slowly clue into what was happening Whisper smiled at the gathered members of the herd. Though it had already been said she couldn't help but officially announce it. She'd been waiting for this moment since they found out and this would not stop her from doing so. "I'm sure you all know now, but let's make it official Olo and I are having foals and we decided to come here to raise them among family." Whisper returned Syn and Olo's nuzzle and then looked out at the other family members. These foals would make Chev and great-grandfather, Syn a grandmother, Syrrin an uncle and Poe and Lapin aunts. There was no doubt in Whispers mind that their foals would find love and support everywhere they turned in this herd.

Syrrin's yelling and the remarks of those around him calmed Chev almost instantly and he blew out a great breath of relief. Of course now that he was able to pay attention to what was actually going on he couldn't help but notice Whisper's condition and he gave her a warm look with a soft exclamation "Oh my dear... congratulations you must be exhausted after your travels. You too Olo." He commented, including his nature loving grandson in the warm look.
It was pretty wild really..the way the herd had grown. In the beginning he has brought one basket here in the quest to find a safe place to raise it..and now look! The family seemed destined to flourish and expand far beyond his wildest dreams. "Everything is fine Olo..Lapin is just being extra cautions be.."
And surprisingly it was Por who interjected, following Olo's invitation to sidle closer and speak up "..Because of Syyrin's possible fleshin eating baskets." She all but whispered, but in the sudden silence of the gathering it was loud enough to be heard.
"Poe!" Syrrin reprimanded "They are not flesh eating! They are just...baskets, like Whisper will have." He stated with a decisive stamp of his hooves. Sure the mare had been a bit odd but she wasn't some sort of monster.
"Whispers not crazy." Poe insisted, sidling closer to the pinto mare and ducking her head to look at her closer "Whisper is all soft and sweet and pretty...your basket mate was..crazy. You said it yourself." Poe insisted before whispering to Olo and Whisper. "His baskets scare me, I think they are going to open early and eat us all."
"Thats just crazy talk! Lapin says they are perfectly fine! And she's a great healer so she would know! Look..go and see for yourself!" Syrrin insisted, defending his baskets with a staunch tone and a proud motion of his head in their direction.
"Thats enough you too." Chev interjected before it turned into a real argument. Syrrin..you know that Poe will see the foals are fine when they are born and Poe..we've told you many times the baskets look perfectly healthy." He soothed the two Usdia in a tolerant voice before turning to Olo and giving a slight exasperated shake of his head. "As I was saying..your mother has just insisted the herd be extra cautious with the addition of new young ones to be..and it seems we have double the reason now."

Lapin almost corrected Poe, she had never said the baskets weren't flesh eating monsters, just that they were clearly developing fine and appeared healthy. But obviously saying something like that would only throw Poe into a complete panic and since everyone was calm again Lapin decided it was best to just not even voice that. Actually if anything she was interested to see Whisper and Olo's reaction to Poe breaking the news in such a manner as surely they wouldn't know about Syrrin's...ridiculous fling and likely hadn't seen the baskets in their hiding spot either.
Syn couldn't help but shake her head. Poe was still frightened of Syrrin's baskets, but then again her quiet daughter was fairly frightful of everything. At least she had grown out of that a bit and perhaps with more time would be less skittish, though some of that would depend on just how this situation with Syrrin's baskets turned out. Though she would have liked to stop the argument between Poe and Syrrin it was her father who stepped in, which was good, because honestly Syn was feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of this. She was excited for another batch of grandchildren, and scared because she worried that that crazy mare Syrrin has children with would come looking for them, and Whisper and Olo had traveled all this way and in that condition.
"You should rest after such a long journey Whisper." She said in a loving tone, though she was certain Olo would not have pressed his mate to hurry home. "We are so excited for you both, and you must forgive our jumpiness due to the...situation." There was no point in ignoring the fact that Syrrin's baskets were now brought to attention
"Don't worry," he told his mother and grandfather, "we have been traveling slow and light so as to not stress Whisper. It took us far longer to reach home than I would have liked but there was plenty of resting along the way." In fact it was Olo more often than Whisper who suggested they stopped to rest, she probably would have needed to rest anyways and had certainly put up with all his worries which proved how much she loved him.
"Olo made certain I rested regularly, but thank you for your concern." Whisper gave the two older Usdia a warm smile. She knew this news would be happily received by them even in their initial arrival had been filled with commotion which only now was starting to reveal itself. Whispers gaze moved to Poe as the quiet mare spoke up about flesh eating baskets. Before she could ask Syrrin stepped in to defend these apparent baskets and it took a moment for Whisper to catch on to what was happening. Syrrin had baskets? A part of her warmed to this, as it meant her children would have others to grow and play with, but Syrrin had never seemed the responsible type, let alone father material.
Poe's words about Whisper being soft, sweet and pretty made her smile grow and Whisper took a step towards the shy mare. "Poe, that's so kind of you to say but I think that---"
Information suddenly filled the clearing and Olo stood there with a shocked look on his face. Syrrin had baskets? How could that be? But clearly it happened since Poe was scared of them, and everyone else seemed quite obvious to the fact. He didn't mean to interrupt Whisper but the shock had worn off and now he mouth rambled without him realizing it was happening. "Syrrin? Baskets? I don't understand...how? With who?" His gaze swung to Poe for a moment. "Syrrin's baskets will not be flesh eating beasts Poe, no matter how crazy this whole situation is. Don't worry about it." Then he looked back to Syrrin. He cannot believe his brother had foals before he and Whisper had. Syrrin didn't even have a mate! "Well I think we are now both equally surprised."

This was riduculous! How come Olo and Whisper having baskets was some grand celebration worthy event and his baskets were a "Situation" ?!?! Syrrin frowned in irritation at everyone for a few moments before answering his brother. "It's a long story, I'll tell you later..excuse me while I go and look after my situation." He grumbled before stalking over to spend some time with his baskets.
I mean really..there was nothing wrong with them! Sure he hadn't told his family everything about the mare that had given birth to them but there was no guarantee that any of her oddities would even pass on to the children and really..like his mother had room too talk..she had pretty much had all of them from flings thank you very much! Whatever, let them have their happy little reunion.
Chev sighed as Syrrin stalked off. "You know that's not what everyone means.." He told his grandson as he passed by but Syrrin ignored him and Chev let him go. With Syrrin - sometimes it was best to just let him simmer down for a little while. In any case Chev thought perhaps Syrrin was still a bit embarrassed about his whole situation and that was probably making him a touch more touchy then normal..which was typically already touchy enough. Sigh.
Grandkids. What could you do? Oh my..he was about to be a great grandfather! Sure the thought had crossed his mind before now, but with the addition of Whisper and Olo's baskets to be well..he was going to have a lot of new little foals to help take care of! "He'll be fine." He told the others "Just let him stew for a while until he calms down."
Poe shook her head sadly as Whisper and Olo, they didn't know, they hadn't heard the story of the crazy mare that had somehow lured Syrrin..syrrin the crankiest most cynical of them all! Into thinking she was nice and lovely and sweet...with her sly tricks until he had figured out that she was nutty and run off. Crazy was hereditary..she was sure of it! The baskets were going to be weird..but no one would listen to her.
"If you say so." She told Olo in her quiet voice, mentally adding to herself 'but don't come crying when they eat your leg off in the middle of the night!'. Poe decided that she was goign to keep giving the baskets a wide berth and then when they started eating the others..maybe she could run for help before to many were eaten.
...Of course that would mean she'd have to run off. Alone. Into the woods..where there were wolves and walkers and all sorts of hungry creatures! Merely the thought of this potential future run was enough to make her shiver slightly. Don't think about it now! Just don't think about it! She told herself..but she used her mask to hide her face anyways. I was always safer behind her mask.

Whisper could see that Syrrin wasn't entirely happy with everyone's reaction to all this. She knew he was a gruff type but that didn't mean he was bad, just he had to be handled different. Watching him walk over to where his basket were Whisper felt a pang of guilt for causing so much grief for him at the moment. With a slight shake of her head she walked past the others and came to a stop beside Syrrin. "Syrrin," she began in her soft voice. "I think this is good thing. You might not believe me at the moment but I couldn't be happier knowing that my children will be able to grow up along side their cousins. I don't care how these baskets came to be, what matters is you clearly care for them and that there is this large family here to watch them grow."
Olo nodded at his brother, he was curious as to how this all happened but with everyone talking and the mix of excitement and something else from his and Whisper's return, their surprise and Syrrin's surprise now was not the time to ask for details. Besides he knew his brother fairly well, he would come to him later and they would get a chance to talk. A smile crossed his lips as he watched Whisper walk over to talk to Syrrin. Though her voice was quite he heard what she said and it made him so happy that he had her. She was such a caring mare and he couldn't think of a better mother for his children than Whisper.
He walked over to where they were standing and gave Whisper a nuzzle before looking at his brother. "She's right you know. It was great growing up with you but having even more playmates around will be great for them."
As things started to wind down Lapin let her gaze flow over the gathered family. Yup it was big and getting bigger. Then her eyes moved to where he herds were tucked away in various crooks and holes. With even more baskets on the way she would need to add more to those piles. While she was confident than she had enough of everything this many foals to be running around soon had her on edge. Her gaze turned to her sister. "Poe, want to come help me gather some more herbs? I don't know if my stockpile is big enough anymore." It was not only something that she wanted to do but it would help to break up this little family reunion and let everyone settle down again.
Syn couldn't help but sigh at how things had turned out. She knew they were being a bit hard on Syrrin but he had gotten himself into a bit of an ugly situation with these baskets, he himself admitting that the mother had been less than stable. "I think we could all use some quiet time to let everything sink in." She announced and looked at her two daughters for a moment. Please don't let them come home pregnant, she prayed to herself, the herd would be swamped with foals if they did. "And I'm sure Olo and Whisper will like some time to get settled in again."
Whisper returned Olo's nuzzle and smiled at him. Her gaze then turned to Synestra and the smaller mare nodded. "Some quiet time would be nice and I am started to get tired." All the excitement had taken a lot out of her, plus the traveling, so it would be nice to curl up and sleep for a while.
"You should rest then." Olo said to his mate, before looking to his brother. "Anytime you want to talk just let me know, though I think I will lie down with Whisper for a while first." His gaze turned to the rest of the family and he let a smile cross his lips. "It's so good to be home." Giving his mate a small nudge the pair set off towards a grove they used when they came to visit.

It was really kind of hard to stay angry when Whisper was being so sweet to him. Syrrin didn't know the mare very well - she and Olo had spent most of their time at her home but he did like her and she seemed like the perfect match for his quiet brother. Syrrin couldn't help but be a touch jealous over that fact..that his brother had managed to find his special someone, while he, had been duped into thinking it only to realize the truth later. He supposed a good bit of his anger lately stemmed from that betrayal..mixed with a bit of fear for his baskets future.
Still there was no reason to take it out on Whisper and his brother and he offered the sweet mare a small nod. "Thank you Whisper..I know they will be fine and having more playmates around can't be a bad thing." He agreed with both Whisper and Olo as his brother joined them. "Go and rest, I'll speak you both later." He told the two in farewell as they turned to leave, turning his own attention to his baskets again. Perhaps a nap would be good for him as well.
As the rest of the family broke up to see to their own needs Chev breathed a sigh of relief, he was tired...and a bit of rest didn't seem like a bad idea at all - in fact it seemed like a pretty fine idea. He would send one of the others off to keep watch for a while.
"Yes a bit of rest sounds good for everyone, we can all share stories and chat later on." He told the family, nodding to each in turn before heading off for a bit of said rest.
Poe Was about to slink back off into the brush, perhaps follow her mother around some when Lapin issued her request. "Oh yes please..I think that would be a good idea." She told her sister, perking up slightly at the thought of a nice quiet relaxing activity to while away her time. It was an important activity too - one that would be needed if the herd was going to support so many new foals all at once. Eagerly she followed after Lapin in search of the herbs.
