It wasn't hard to lose track of time, or everything, really, in moments like this. On the couch, the two of them sat. Each held a book, and neither had said a word to one another in hours. Every so often, Riley might shift, curling herself closer to Malodore, but their wordless comfort continued, both lost in the pages of the books they were reading. She was engrossed in the pages of a book she'd never read before, though she'd known the story. This time, she was enjoying actually learning about something on her own, without the aid of the hivemind feeding her memories of someone else reading about it.
It was fun. Sort of. Tedious, but fun.
And for some reason, the whole Camelot nonsense had been coming up a lot lately. She figured it might come in handy to know the tale better than she had before.
She turned a page, and shifted again, this time dropping down until her head rested squarely on Malodore's lap. Maybe she was only half-reading, now. Comfort was ultimately her greatest concern.

Malodore lifted its own book so it could see her. "Is the tale that boring, mia cara?" it asked, voice deadpan, but it shifted its grip on the book to single-handed so that it could rest its free hand on her head. One claw found the curve of her ear.

No. She murmured, turning into its lap and burying her face in it. You're just that interesting.
She actually liked the book she was reading, but Malodore distracted her easily, its touch sending odd little tingles through her nerves. It was a good thing they were alone, and nobody was going to ruin their moment, or anything.AstaraeI thats not foreshadowing at all

In an instant, Malodore was on its feet, wings flared - one around Riley, protectively, the other curving forward, the feathers standing straight out and quivering as they pointed at the source of the sound.
That was one hell of a startle reflex.

In an instant, Riley had rolled off the couch and hit the floor with yet another whomp.
Ow.

There was a pause and a bit of fumbling, as if someone had dropped a bundle of sticks and were hastily picking them back up - if sticks were bones, it was pretty accurate. But he reclaimed his arm pretty readily. "HEY RILEY," Aymet finally called through the wall that he had failed to travel through because it was in fact a door, with a doorknob and everything. A doorknob he had almost managed to grasp and turn. Almost... Briefly he stared down at his gigantic claws.

Riley didn't actually stay on the floor long. She was on her feet within a moment, pressing her hand against Malodore's back in a comforting motion, before moving to open the door. She'd already heard his voice (and those thoughts, wish a little louder, Aymet, maybe you'll become a star) and was ready to open the door for him.
Which she did.

Malodore just stared at Aymet for a moment - and, in that moment, horrible visions danced through its mind, available for Riley to taste should she wish to. Some sort of awful nightmare? It bowed to Aymet. " Buona sera - ah, if you will excuse me for a moment, I need to... find... my... something..." Without waiting for an answer, it hurried off to the kitchen. "Panda sogno..."
