Days past had been nothing but the same routine. Starshine's self-imposed exile from her family helped her none, and she found herself falling into what one would call a rut.

Wander. Find food. Wander. Rest. Find food. Wander. Rise and repeat over a period of time that the young vixen couldn't measure at this point. It could have been weeks, maybe months since she started the routine and she would have said it was just yesterday. Any sort of interruption to her routine was dealt with quickly. She welcomed any chance at socialization, but they ended far too soon for her to be any sort of satisfied. The empty feeling that had filled her since she was young refused to soothed no matter who she bumped into.

Today, her gaze lingered on the forest floor. A tree had served for her nightly rest, and the mask she kept on at all times had kept her face, at least, dry from the rainstorm that was currently going strong. Others passed under her, but her presence remained undetected. For now, at least.

Vincent Valentine

Deep red eyes gazed out from behind ebony tresses, idle and unfocused. There was nothing to focus on that he had not already examined: the dark forest floor, the surrounding evergreens, the foreboding clouds looming above, and the incessant torrent of rain. The downpour had driven most life into hiding, and naught but a rare rodent dashing to shelter had passed since the start of the onslaught. He himself had not moved in a fair amount of time, having taken up residence in a tree hollow, patiently waiting out the storm. It was not that he was not fond of rain —he neither cared for it, nor was he bothered by it— but it was heavy. It soaked his thick garments, settled in his lengthy hair, and saturated his dense fur, all which weighed him down. As though he was not already burdened.

It would have been soothing, lying all but unnoticed in the hollow as the rain continued to fall, listening to the various sounds it made depending on which surface it struck, were it not for the paths his idle mind walked. Memories better left forgotten. Failure. He flexed the claws of his gauntleted paw, scoring the soft ground before him. It was so long ago, yet the wounds were still raw. He could feel the products of that failure circulating within him, a bitter reminder of the past which would haunt him for the eternity he was condemned to live. That which had killed him had saved him. It had made him a monster, a physical embodiment of the evils of the world. His existence was a crime against life itself, and the beasts which lurked within him were anything but saintly. A horror of nature; a horror of science; a horror of society.

Chaos.

He stood up, exiting the hollow, greeted by the icy rain. He raised his chin, gazing up at the sky. The downpour was endless, cascading down upon the world below, and showed no sign of ceasing anytime soon. He blinked, lowered his head, and began sauntering through the storm. The water quickly penetrated every layer of clothing and fur, finding his skin, trickling down to the ground. The water was relentless in its attempt to settle in some area on his form, though it had already entirely saturated every part of him. There was so much water. There was not enough water in the world to cleanse him of his sins.

The rain had washed away most scents of the forest, save that of the forest itself. However, he was no average fox. With his transformation came acute senses and an ever-present hyperawareness. So the scent of another did not go unnoticed. He blinked, though did not come to a stop. Instead, he deviated from his path, ascending a tree in a single, silent leap. He moved through the higher branches, frighteningly quiet for the speed he was traveling. It did not take long to find the source of the other scent, and he slowed, coming to a stop in an adjacent tree on a branch a couple feet higher than the other fox. A female. He stood there, foreboding red eyes focused on the other, waiting.

—Sorry for taking so long to reply. It's also a much shorter reply than I'd like it to be, but I'll get back into it~—
