While I love some christian rock artists like Red, Skillet, Pillar, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Fireflight. I have been in love with christian punk. It's a sub genre that developed in the early 90s and some in the late 80s. It was christian music that not only wanted to praise God and speak of the savior, but it also focused on the waking up message to warn people about certain social issues. Things like christian hypocrisy, the media promoting sin, people that judge before knowing others, etc. while some do that, other christian artists also sing their own praise songs only. Do you think that this is a praise worthy type of music or do you think they are making a mockery of the religion? Opinions and thoughts. I personally believe it's some of them trying to bring upon a truth that everybody else is afraid to speak of sometimes.

Examples of bands are: Headnoise (considered pioneer), True Liberty, Dogwood (considered pioneer), Calibretto 13, Children 18:3, Officer Negative (considered possible founder of genre), Relient K, Slick Shoes, Five Iron Frenzy, OC and the Supertones, FM Static, and Hawk Nelson. Just to name a few.

Children 18:3 is one of my favorite bands, Christian or otherwise. "Oh Bravo" is like my theme song.

But then again, I like punk music. I know some people think that punk music has a bad attitude (and I'd be inclined to agree in some cases), but if you're an outsider, pop isn't going to cut it anyway.

There's a reason Christian punk is so popular amongst young Christians. Loving Jesus isn't all that normal. We are outsiders for our faith. I live in a large city where 80% of the population is unchurched (I know unchurched doesn't equal not-Christian, but I'm personally of the opinion that church is really important), which makes me a pretty serious minority, especially since I participate in secular subculture to begin with. Listening to Christian punk helps me feel like there's room for me at the table, too.

I agree with Ophelia.
I'm all for Christian punk, because it's up front about faith. I mean look at Jesus. He was a complete rebel, defying strict Jewish rules, stepping past social boundaries, loving the "unlovable." It encourages us to step out of the walls that we call the church and start actually being a church, reaching out and loving. We are the body of Christ are we not? It's time for us to answer the call, and I think that punk rock is something that encourages us to answer that call, whether to evangelism, world missions, or just to live your faith out loud.

praise to God in any form is still praise to God...just because someone doesnt like a style....doesnt mean its wrong....if music is against God...its against God...but praise music...lol doesnt matter what it sounds like so long as it glorifies God

With the question though, I never really cared about music.
I mean if they aren't dropping the F-Bomb or doing excessive cussing, talking about drugs, ladies in a derogatory manner, or praising Satan I'll listen too it.
Christian punk music, I wouldn't see how it would be bad I mean if you are praising God then why does it matter?

Some Christians think its a mockery of God and that He bans it and that He disapproves it.

Some Christians also have rattlesnakes in their service and they dance with them and let the snakes bite them and think that if they live through the poison that God favors them.

Extremists, all religions have them.
They aren't always right.

I find most music specifically under christian labels to be kinda cheesy and hard to listen to. I don't have a problem with them at all, but it does certainly appear that the commercialization of it has ruined the spirit of the movement.

I have listened to christian punk/metal since middle school. In fact, its just about all i listen to. I listen to all the bands you do, and then some. I find them not only quite spiritual, but very uplifting, and in some cases, really get your blood bumping for Jesus. There is absolutely nothing wrong with christian rock/metal/punk. In fact, I 100% recommend it to all my friends who enjoy rock and metal. The metal bands I listen to are As I Lay Dying, Demon Hunter, Close Your Eyes, I am Terrified, Cry of the Afflicted, Destroy the Runner, Devil Wears Prada, and many more. If any of you would like a large list of christian metal/rock bands, please give me a shout, I'd be glad to help ^_^

Lol I kinda feel you there. I am not of the opinion that there has to be a "Christian version" of everything out there. I think there are a few bands out there making it work, but for the most part, it really does come off as a watered down version of the "real thing". Especially in the case of Christian pop music. Pop is generic on purpose, so it can be as widely appealing as possible. It would stand to reason that a Christian version of pop would feel kinda gross and saccharine. Which, in my opinion, it totally does. Which is why I get a lot of spiritual inspiration from secular music.

Punk is basically a vehicle for the artist's opinion. You don't have to be a virtuoso to play punk, but you have to have a lot of FEELINGS (and the conviction to go with them) to play punk properly. I think that makes punk really honest, which makes it a much better place for Christian music. 3nodding

This is a grey area for everyone and is based on conviction. Is what I have always been told.

If the lyrics do not lift up his name, then I wouldn't bother listening to it. Music was made to worship God. I love Thousand Foot Krutch because all their lyrics blatantly point out Christ. (my car wears their bumper sticker)

I'm not perfect at all, I listen to my good share of Taylor Swift and noise like FM Static and Hawk Nelson. But generally I focus mostly on music that lifts his name.

About 80% of the music I listen to doesn't have lyrics, so....yeah. And I don't usually know or care about the religious persuasion of the artist. I'm a professional musician, and to me, really superb, genius music is touched by the divine whether the creator of the work was aware of that or not.

And I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of punk music and I find most modern Christian music to be sort of...pandering, for lack of a better word. I find no moral fault with it and I'm sure many of the people who make that music have very good intentions, it's just not something I'd usually choose to listen to.
