Things in Eyris had quieted down considerably after the army had left. It seemed over half of the guild members had volunteered to go with one of the groups. For those who stayed behind, an ominous peace existed. Life went on like normal, reconstruction in the city nearing completion, but the people knew what was happening outside the thick city walls. Most had confidence in their soldiers, and some were even making plans of their own to go join the effort. Despite being told to stay behind, Abel was one of these people. His mercenary group was going to join up with Rath's group. All they had to do was prepare and wait a few days to make sure they didn't catch up until they were outside of Learania, that way they couldn't be told to head back to Eyris. Abel didn't need much time to prepare for the road. The rest of his time went into taking care of a few last things.

It was breezy over at Eyris' graveyard. With all the new plots, Abel had gotten lost a few times, but he eventually found the grave he was looking for. He stared down at it for a while, thinking that he should have known exactly what to say when he arrived. But he didn't. All he had was a knot in his throat. He just wanted to understand why. He tried to understand. He knew what the note said, what Blossom had told him... but he wished he could hear his friend's own voice. He couldn't shake the sense that he could have done something, been around more, been a better friend. He had failed the friend who had saved him.

"Aidan..."

Get out of my way.

Derrin,
The Thunder Storm

Just leave me alone

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Derrin trudged over the graves, head down and shoulders slumped. What Blossom had told him, about the way her husband had died, was on his mind. She'd looked like she was about to cry when she had choked out the story, but when Derrin took a step towards her to comfort her... she'd run away. Derrin had been left standing on the street, feeling like the worlds biggest a*****e.

That had been two days ago, he hadn't seen the little Hero since. Finally unable to stand his lonely and quiet house any longer, Derrin had started walking... at first he didn't know where he was going but after a few blocks he'd suddenly realized where his feet were taking him.

Sentria. He was going to leave Eyris, he'd go without telling anyone... not that he had a lot of friends who would have cared in the first place. He'd leave Blossom and Cloak behind to find Jaren, for now at least. In fact, now that he thought about it he wondered why he hadn't left sooner. Of course he knew the answer to that, Blossom. She was the reason he was working as a waiter in the hostess club, she was the reason he'd joined cloak... she was the reason why he didn't stay cooped up in that lonely house of his.

Derrin had stopped then, as if struck by lightning. He'd wheeled around and began walking with a purpose... there was something he needed to do before he left.

That was how the mage found himself walking through a graveyard where nobody he knew slept. Searching for the marker of Blossom's widower. It didn't take him long to see a familiar face in the nearly abandoned graveyard. Abel stood, staring down at a stone that as Derrin rightly assumed was Aidan's. The mage approached, saying nothing to Abel at first, simply standing quietly beside him and looking at the grave.

The two men didn't like each other, however Derrin at least made an attempt at conversation. "... You're leaving." He said after a long silence, noting the gear Abel had.

Derrin was the last person Abel wanted to see. As the mage approached and stood beside him, Abel's sadness boiled up and filtered into his seeded anger for the mage. He glared to the side with furrowed brow for a second before looking back down at the ground. "...What are you doing here? What do you want?"

Derrin didn't even bother looking over, "I want to know about him." he said in a monotone, nodding at the grave.

"That might've been something to do while he was still alive." Abel replied, coldly. "What do you care, anyway? Is it some strange custom where you come from to learn about the husband before moving in on the widow?"

This time the mage shot Abel a hot glare, "I didn't ever know he even existed. I care because whoever he is, he's hurt Blossom deeply. I'm not trying to move in on anybody." With a huff he looked away and crossed his arms. "Is there something wrong with me wanting to know about him?"

"Yeah. Because you don't care. Not about him. He's not just a 'whoever'. He was her husband. He loved her."

"Loved her?" Derrin snorted, "He killed himself and left her to deal with all his pain on her own. He was a fool. It would have been better for him to die in battle rather than take his own life like a coward."

The moment the mage uttered those words, a tightly clenched fist found its way slamming into the side of his face. "Shut up." growled Abel, his body shaking and fist red. "You don't know him." He glared at Derrin with wide, enraged eyes. "YOU DON'T KNOW HIM!"

Abel looked away and tried to contol his breathing. "He just wanted to make a difference... he tried everything he could, but we weren't there for him! We should have told him it's useless to deal with Rogvald himself, but we just let him stay on as a tactician for the war because we were too caught up in the resistance... How many people could he have saved if it weren't for Rogvald dismissing every suggestion or idea?" Abel glanced over at Derrin. "You fail at saving a multitude of people and find yourself even incapable of helping your lover and then see how you feel."

He looked away again. "He's just another victim... of this stupid war... That's why I'm leaving. I'm going to help put an end to this... so that no more good people will have to die. And I don't care how naive that sounds. I won't let it happen. I'll bring Drake down myself... and then we can turn to Mordache."

Derrin,

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Derrin was knocked a step back, foot stomping on the ground in order to help him keep his balance. Immediately Derrin saw red, with a herculean effort though he managed to stand still and seethe until Abel had finished.

The mercenary caught Derrin's fist in the side of the head from behind, opposite from where Abel had punched him. Derrin didn't stop there though, while Abel was still reacting to his first punch the mage threw a second with his other fist again aiming for Abel's face.

Abel may have punched Derrin bare-handed but Derrin believed in payback with interest. His punches had the extra power of the weight of the metal in his gloves, so being punched by Derrin was like being punched by someone wearing a gauntlet.

"You did all you could you moron! He failed at saving people and so rather then keep trying or pick himself up again, he gave up! Rather then take responsibility for his mistakes he took the cowards way out! He made every problem worse! He's not a victim of the war, the war didn't kill him. He killed himself! He's his own victim!"

"And if we both leave, who's going to take care of Blossom her husbands dead, her friends are all dead or leaving! You're as selfish as I am so don't try to play the naive hero act!" He shouted at the top of his lungs, releasing his pent up frustrations and stress on Abel.

Gravel crunched under heavy boots as the scion of the Odo bloodline trudged into the graveyard, a bottle of wine in hand, axe hanging in its sheath at his side, his rough, handmade bow unstrung and crossing the pack slung over his shoulder. He hadn't left with the initial war effort-- he was a part of the Castle Guard, and had been assigned to protect Eyris.

Two days ago, he resigned from the Guard, and was preparing to set out to reinforce the armies in Sentria. Since Arajudia, Dietrich had improved vastly-- his time in prison had forced him to detoxify and confront his alcoholism, and he hadn't had a sip since. The bottle still called to him, but that was part of why he stopped in the graveyard.

Those who were close to him knew that once a week, he bought a bottle of good wine and took it out to the graveyard to pour one out for those the Guild and the Guard had lost. It was a tribute passed down to him from his father, and a test of his own strength of will.

The sounds of two men shouting-- in a graveyard, no less-- at one another got his attention quickly, and Dietrich picked up the pace, not quite to a jog, as he recognized the pair over Aidan's grave. He could hear what they were saying by now-- some stupid argument over Aidan's motivations neither of them could possibly understand, and an even more senseless argument over how Blossom could POSSIBLY-- ugh.

"That's enough!" he shouted at them, storming up behind Derrin. "The hell is wrong with you two, fighting over a friend's grave!?" Dietrich was by no means a strong leader, but he was notoriously direct and unafraid of confrontation. "Both of you idiots, shut the hell up! Blossom's a ******** brick house, she can take care of herself. And if you're trying to honor Aidan's memory you're doing a piss-poor job of it!" He didn't move to grab Derrin, much as he wanted to pull the mage off of Abel before things got worse. Nothing good could come of getting physically involved in the fight. "This is disgusting. Should be ashamed of yourselves," he spat, unslinging his pack and letting it fall to the ground just in case he actually did have to physically separate the two men.

Groceries, mail, flowers, made that delivery...

Blossom sighed, running a hand through the hair that framed her face as she trekked back towards her home, away from the center of town. Various produce and bread rattled against each other and a wrapped glass bottle of paprika against each other as she moved, tough brown bag bumping her hip with each step. The grocer had even given her a discount on the potatoes and the carrots. With things going back to normal lately -- or at least as close to normal as they ever would in this place -- prices were generally going back up, now that people could afford to spend more on groceries and other sundries, so the discount was a nice surprise. She grasped a small bouquet of yellow zinnias in one hand, holding the strap of her bag with the other.

Blossom had stayed home in Eyris Lance's mission hadn't required her presence, and Rin was gone on said mission. She still wasn't sure if she was needed -- or wanted, honestly -- in Sentria or Pentheus, given that she wasn't as mobile as any of the cavalry or laguz, nor had the magical or healing talents necessary to be indispensable in an army full of physical fighters. Really, she had to wonder if she was better off staying home and protecting Eyris with the rest of the Guard. She was essentially a member by now in all but name, anyway.

The lingering uncertainty was hard to shake, too; every step forward felt laborious, more arduous than the last. So much time had passed, and yet the wound hadn't healed over. Pathetic. She had to wonder sometimes why she still did this, if it didn't seem to help at all. Maybe...

Maybe she...

She paused on the road, mental reflection inexplicably ceasing as her attention was drawn elsewhere. "What is...?" she mumbled, looking up from the path and towards the graveyard in the far distance. "Is that--"

Blossom hit a light jog, panting lightly. Derrin's voice began to fade; she hit a sprint, breath coming in sharp puffs as her toned legs carried her across the dirt path at a speed she usually reserved for the battlefield. When she finally approached the plot where Aidan's body had been buried, a new voice put a hitch in her step.

"That's enough!"

Blossom crested the hill and half-jogged, half-stumbled towards the grave as Dietrich's pack hit the ground. "This is disgusting. Should be ashamed of yourselves." Her own bag slipped off of her shoulder and onto the ground as she panted, slate blue eyes taking in the sight of the three men crowded around Aidan's grave. She gripped the zinnias tightly in her other hand.

"What--" she panted, eyes hardening, "What is going on here." She looked at Derrin, then Abel, then Dietrich, taking in a deep breath before speaking again, slightly calmer. "What are you three doing here...? Did I miss something?"

After stumbling back from the second punch, Abel glared up at Derrin and wiped the blood from his lip. He would have retaliated in full on rage had Dietrich not arrived and then Blossom shortly after.

"...What about your friend, huh?" Abel said lowly, still looking at Derrin. "He joined the enemy, right?" Abel chuckled weakly between heavy breaths. "How much idiocy and cowardice is needed to do something like that? Betraying you, leaving all his friends behind and then turning his blade upon them... How many Learanians has he killed, I wonder? What a damned disgrace."

Abel's smile went away, exposing it for the fraud it was. "Don't like people saying that about a friend, do you? I don't even really know him... who the hell am I to speak about his motives or what he's been through?" He paused to try and gauge Derrin's reaction. "I said it already; you don't know him. Don't judge or talk badly about somebody when all you have is ignorance to go on..."

He glanced at Blossom and then back to Derrin. "But if you're so adamant about it... why don't you go ahead and tell her?" He said, nodding his head towards Blossom. His brows furrowed. "Just tell her exactly how you feel about him! See how it makes her feel..."

Get out of my way.

Derrin,
The Thunder Storm

Just leave me alone

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Derrin only spared Dietrich a sidelong glance before ignoring him entirely. Derrin had already paid Abel back two-fold for the punch Abel had given him and didn't intend to get physical unless the mercenary did.

When Blossom arrived though Derrin's shoulders hunched and he turned towards her, ashamed of his actions and full of self-lothing, "Blossom... I-" he started to say.

The argument and fight probably would have ended there, had Abel not spoken again.

His fury rekindled Derrin's eyes narrowed and his nostrils flared as he wheeled to face Abel again. "You're free to say or think anything you want about anyone you want, I don't know why he joined the enemy! Maybe it was because your girlfriend and her brother completely forgot about him and left him in the dungeons of an enemy fort that you had destroyed! It's a miracle he's still alive! Your friend Aiden probably would have just killed himself then!"

Derrin was voice rose with every word until he was shouting, his face as red as his hair. "You want me to tell her? Fine! I'll tell her, if she's such a brick house she can take it right?" angry beyond the point of rational thought Derrin turned again at Blossom. He managed to lower his voice when he spoke to her, but he was still shaking with rage and his words were harsh.

"Blossom, your ex-husband Aiden was a coward. He killed himself and let everyone around him suffer for it, apparently he did this because he was unable to help people. So instead he saw fit to dishonour himself, his friends and most of all you. Wake the ******** up and get over him, people need you alive, not flinging yourself into an early grave after him!"

Derrin couldn't understand why people couldn't see things as they were, he didn't understand why these people couldn't just admit the mistakes of their friend and move on.

Most of all though Derrin just couldn't understand, and so he stood there shaking with rage. Rage at Abel, rage at Aiden, and rage at himself for each one of his failures.

Blossom frowned at each of them in turn, slowly parting the cluster of men in order to approach the grave, kneeling down in order to place the flowers neatly upon the dirt, against the headstone. She stood upright, then, looking over at Derrin, stern but calm. Her arms were loose at her sides. "What about how you feel about who, De--"

It was as if something had ignited in his brain, sharp and harsh and full of fire. It was only about when she realized he was talking about Jaren that his focus seemed to shift. "You want me to tell her? Fine! I'll tell her, if she's such a brick house she can take it, right?" He turned on her, then, and as he spoke, the color drained out of her face and her eyes went wide. As he continued, her hands started to shake, then the rest of her, mouth set in a thin line, to keep herself silent.

Derrin finally stopped talking. "I--" She took in a deep, shuddering breath. Her right hand tightened into a fist, and her eyes narrowed.

And that's when her fist flew forward and connected at high speed with Derrin's face, right between his eyes. She took a step back from him afterward, breath coming in sharp pants; given the fact that her eyes were still wide, hands shaking as she held onto her right wrist, as if to restrain herself, it was likely that it was more out of fury than exhaustion. Those training sessions weren't just for show.

"Don't you ever talk like that about him again!" She shouted, pupils constricted as she glared at Derrin. She took a step forward then, intent on forcing him backward. "You don't know a damn ******** thing about him! You never knew him! You don't know what he did or who he did it for! You don't know what he had to deal with while he was here!" she took in a shallow breath, face flushing faintly red as her voice grew louder. "Besides, you don't think I don't know that? I've had more than enough ******** time to figure that out myself!" She snarled at him, the muscles in her arms tensing as her fist tightened and her grip on her wrist tightened accordingly. "But that doesn't make it any easier! It doesn't change the fact that he's dead, and there's nothing I can do to bring him back! I was the person that was supposed to be there to help him and keep this kind of thing from happening, it doesn't stop me from missing the only person I had left of my homeland and of my only living family and yet here we ******** are, aren't we?"

She stumbled away from him, eyes narrowing as her breath came in heavy gasps. "I don't-- I don't want to hear you talking like that about him again. I am not putting up with that s**t."

Get out of my way.

Derrin,
The Thunder Storm

Just leave me alone

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The punch surprised Derrin just as much as who threw it, however he was still a fairly big guy and a martial artist to boot, and no matter how hard she trained Blossom's small frame could only put so much force into a punch, especially since she was standing still when she threw it and since Derrin was nearly a full foot taller then her it would probably take her full reach (and possibly standing on her tiptoes) to actually hit him between the eyes dead straight. The only reason she managed to hit him there in the first place without him stepping backwards to avoid it was because it was Blossom, Derrin had thought the odds of Blossom punching him were slightly less then his flame-resistant cloak spontaneously combusting into lemons.

Derrin took a step back, more surprised then hurt as Blossom advanced on him, screaming at him. However that was the only step he took, she kept coming towards him until they were nearly chest to chest with her looking up at him as she yelled. Derrin just stared at her, expression for once unreadable.

When she was finished the smaller girl stumbled away.

Derrin stared at her a moment longer before turning away, sparing Abel only a pointed look that he hoped the mercenary would read as "this is as much your fault as mine" Derrin walked back off down the hill shoulders hunched.

He cursed himself for having thought to come here instead of just leaving in the first place, he berated himself for having started the conversation with Abel and he was ashamed of himself for what he'd said to Blossom.

It was best now if Derrin just left, it was a sour note to say goodbye on but the mage didn't know how he'd ever fix the rift he'd just torn between him and Blossom.

So he'd just leave, he was only causing Blossom more pain, as such he'd remove the source of it. There were plenty of people who could make her happy, she'd be fine he told himself.

With the intent of leaving Eyris behind, possibly forever, the mage walked down the road towards the home Jaren and him shared.

Dietrich watched all this go down in a bit of shock, but he was honestly unsurprised by Blossom's sudden outburst; Derrin's behavior had certainly warranted it, and the axeman had sparred more than enough with Blossom to know what she was capable of.

He shook his head slowly as Derrin left, glancing over at Blossom. "Hey," he murmured after a second. "You okay?" He offered her the bottle of wine after a moment, sitting down in the dirt beside Aidan's grave, and cocked his head at Abel. "Hey, I'll be along in a few. I just wanna talk to Blossom first," he murmured, inviting her with one hand to sit with him, and then turned back to her.

"So," he rumbled, deep under his breath, "What's your plan, here? Where are you going?" He was certain she was off to do something stupid and dangerous without a proper crew to back her up. He knew because he was pretty sure it was something he would have done in her shoes. That's how he wound up in jail in Arajudia for four months. "Look, I don't-- I worry about you," he said. "You've been acting weird these last couple months, and I'm gettin' concerned you're gonna get yourself hurt." He looked up at Aidan's grave, crossing his legs in front of himself and leaning forward, fists pressing into the grass. "I just... I'm leaving with Abel to go support Rath's legion in Sentria. I wanna know you'll be okay while I'm gone. I want a promise that we'll go have lunch together when I get back," he said, smirking ruefully. They were marching off to war but this girl was like his adorable little sister. And when she was depressed, it was all he could do to keep himself from pulling her into a tight hug and protecting her from the world.

But that's not what she needed. From anyone. He understood that. But he couldn't leave yet-- not knowing how she was broken inside. Not without knowing she had protection from herself.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 17, 2013 3:01 pm

Blossom was still panting as Derrin turned away from her. Given his response and how he tried to keep his expression blank, to not betray his thoughts, she couldn't tell if she'd even hurt him. A part of her really wished she had; given the fact that she'd actually managed to scrape her first two knuckles slightly with the punch, she could only hope that the big, black-and-blue bruise would appear over the bridge of his nose and between his eyebrows the next morning. Then maybe he'd step back. Then maybe he'd think before he spoke.

She couldn't bring herself to speak again as Derrin walked away without a word. Though her hands still shook, the hard line of her shoulders cracked, and her mouth quivered. She didn't seem to hear Dietrich until she noticed the bottle of wine in front of her, and she slowly took it from him. "Y... Th-Thank you." She took the bottle in both hands and smoothed her skirt down over her thighs before kneeling in the dirt next to him, feet tucked underneath her rear.

"So... What's your plan, here? Where are you going?"

Blossom laughed breathlessly, rubbing a hand against her face. "Honestly, I-- I don't know. Lance didn't need me for his mission, and I just-- I worry I'll just be slowing people down. I wasn't sure if I should just stay home or not, really... A-Abel doesn't want me along with him, either. He's probably still upset."

She frowned and stared at the grave when he explained, though, hands grabbing fistfuls of her skirt. Blossom didn't feel like she could promise that much. She had no idea what would happen the next day, much less in the time it would take for Dietrich to get back.

But she knew that she would hurt people by leaving now. That much was certain. And, in a way, she... did she really owe it to Aidan, actually? Did she owe him anything?

Or did she just owe it to herself?

Still, saying 'I promise' felt like too much. She didn't want to let Dietrich down, but at the same time, she wanted him to feel reassured. seeing that look of intense worry in his eyes was almost too much. The little Hero took in a deep, shaky breath, and then looked over at Dietrich. Blossom met his eyes, and though her voice shook, she managed a weak smile as she spoke. "I'll-- I'll do my best." She bit lower lip, then looked back at the wine. She calmed slightly as she changed the topic, brushing one of her pigtails behind her shoulder. "Is that to drink, o-or..."

Dietrich sighed. "Abel... is kinda hurtin' right now," he murmured, watching the retreating figure. "But I know you. And I think you'd drive yourself mad with worry if you didn't do somethin'. I'm just worried you're gonna do somethin' reckless if you go. I'm not gonna stop you, mind," he added quickly. "Or tell you not to go. I'm just sayin'... be careful. We still care about you." He ruffled her hair, standing up. "I brought it along to pour out for the dead," he told her, gesturing to the bottle as he stretched. "It's somethin' my dad always told me to do before battle, so the spirits of your fallen comrades would know you remembered them. Some people think they watch your back in battle," he murmured.

"So I'd rather if you did it, if you're goin'. Since I won't be there to watch your back." He slung his axe over his shoulder, smiling down at her, and ruffled her hair again.

"Be safe, Blossom," he said, "I wanna see you when we get back." He took a deep breath, then walked away, taking great care not to step on any graves, and quickly jogged to catch up with Abel.

"Hey, boss. Ready to go," he rumbled, running his fingers through his hair nervously. "You sure you don't wanna go back and say somethin' before we go?"
PostPosted: Mon Sep 30, 2013 9:19 am

Blossom nodded slowly, looking over at the wine bottle before turning her gaze back to Dietrich. "If I do anything, it'll be because I think it's what needs to be done," she murmured, shrinking under his hand as he ruffled her hair. She hadn't had anyone do anything like that for her in a long time; it felt that way, at least. The last person she'd had that gave her constant physical affirmation was probably Rin, who had to get used to physical contact herself, and now she was busy helping Lance.

"It's somethin' my dad always told me to do before battle, so the spirits of your fallen comrades would know you remembered them. Some people think they watch your back in battle."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Blossom nodded, giving a weak smile as he ruffled her hair again. "I get that feeling too, sometimes," she responded. She removed her scarf from her bag and wound it around her neck, tugging the fabric up and over her nose. She rubbed the fabric between her index finger and thumb, closing her eyes. "The fallen watch over those who are left behind," she murmured, managing a small smile.

However, she didn't wait for Abel to return. She reached over and picked up the bottle of spirits, studying the label before removing the cork and pouring the contents over Aidan's grave. She then stood, picked up her bag, and walked away from the graveyard, headed home. She had some things to prepare.

And prepare she did; Blossom departed from her home a short time later, geared up and ready in the same way that Dietrich was, and then headed back into town. There was still something to handle before she could go anywhere. The trip was shorter than the trip back home felt, and soon enough she was taking a deep, steadying breath before opening the door to the Cafe and entering, looking around the main room apprehensively. "G-- Ganon?"
