Fighting with a dragon was not something Akilae had had in mind when he had gotten up that morning. He had washed up and headed out before sunrise to do some archery practice. The walk out to the range had been quick and quiet with everyone else who was awake at that hours hurrying off to wherever they needed to be. Early mornings on the compound were rarely a time when you found a lot of people chatting.
Upon arriving at the range Akilae had set himself up at one of the stations and began to stretch. He was going to work on his quick draw technique today, having determined that it was the area in which he was currently lacking the most. Well, other than mounted a combat but the instructor for that was too busy for an additional student at the moment. It would be another month or so before Akilae would find himself trying to ride one of the beasts the Order used for mounts and firing his bow or magic or magic at stationary and moving targets.
Everything had been going well until the sky above the compound flickered. For a moment it was as if a blanket of lightning had lanced it's way across the sky. Something had gotten past both the outer and inner wards! Akilae shivered and began to jog away from the range and towards the nearest guard tower. People of creatures breaching the Orders barriers were rare incidents and needed to be dealt with quickly. Akilae would offer his assistance if it was dete-
There on the horizon was a small dark green blob. It was descending from the sky rapidly and appeared to be trailing quite a bit of blood. A particularly brave or stupid Ysali dragon had managed to get past the wards but not without taking a great deal of damage. Akilae's racing heart slowed and he stopped in his tracks, instead shifting to take aim at the floundering beast. Even if he missed , it would not live, it was far too wounded and the compound's inhabitants were aware of it's presence now.
Practice, it seemed, paid off. Akilae sunk 3 arrows into the approaching dragon's next before it crashed, practically lifeless at that point, into the ground. with a satisfied smile the young man began to jog towards the soon to be corpse, eager to collect his share of the spoils.
