Akilae stilled his breathing as he drew back the string on his bow with the ring on his thumb. He had come to Ayr to hunt one of the infamously hard to get Ayrala dragons. It felt weird trying to take down a Ysali and Akilae felt himself up to the challenge of an Ayrala. He had arrived on Ayr knowing that his prey was both elusive and ridiculously good at dodging. Still, the apprentice had felt himself up to the task.
Now he found himself perched on a cliff ledge with a landed Ayrala in his sights and there was no remorse in Akilae's heart as he aimed a poison tipped arrow at the base of the dragon's neck.
Thwpp
Instead of flying true from his bow to the target Akilae stared in shame as his arrow launched itself a few feeble feet and clattered down the side of the cliff. That was .. that had not happened since he started practicing with bows and he wasn't quite sure what had gone wrong.
Below him the grey scaled Ayrala dragon stared at the fallen arrow before it raised it's head and peered ponderously up at the dark skinned hybrid boy. For the most part the creature seemed wholly unconcerned by Akilae's attempt to kill it.
What were you trying to hit youngling, for surely it wasn't me. The words were both mocking in tone and a warning. Akilae would be wise not to take a second shot at the merciful dragon.
Oh! right dovaa blood let him understand dragons. Akilae's face coloured further, a bit of red tinting his normally black skin and he offered a respectful nod to the dragon. " Accident," he lied before backing away from the ledge and making his way to another part of the cliff where he could safely descend and not disturb the dragon further.
