“As if anyone could reject you.” Sefu said with obvious disbelief as he met his sister’s dark gaze once again. Physically they didn’t look much alike but their bond was undeniable. Perhaps the tragedy of losing their pride had brought his whole family closer during the difficult times. “If they don’t let you in, it will be their loss and you should just look for a smarter pride.” He added with conviction.
“I’ll stay close to where mom and dad are for now. I don’t want to live too far from the desert.” He had great memories from his cubhood but also a lot of shattered expectations so those memories were often bittersweet. He remembered the days spent training with his father fondly but at the same time it still pained him to think how he would never become a Guardian who lived for the protection of the pride and those who lived in it. Well, maybe he could still follow that path somewhere else, one day. Other prides must Guardians as well, right?
Just, you know, not yet.
“You know that if you get tired of them or if they start acting weird… you can always come back. You know that, right?” She was a girl, not even a fully grown one at that. He couldn’t help but to worry that someone would try to push her around and make her miserable. And from the little he’d heard of the Ela pride, it would be very hard to find Nathifa once he’d dropped her off there. He wouldn’t be able to check up on her as he pleased but hopefully she’d be strong enough to leave if the new pride didn’t suit her taste for some reason or another. He hoped she would never lose that happy laughter.

Sefu’s relief was so obvious that one could almost see it slowly emanating from the black and white patched adolescent. “Oh, dear. A mighty threat. Don’t worry, I’ll handle it.” Sefu said with mock gallantry as he took a dramatic step towards the suddenly terrified little creature, causing it to quickly disappear in the opposite way. More seriously he added, “Crisis averted. It doesn’t seem that there’s anything that way either.”
He dismissed his sister concern silently at first but the more her words sunk in, the more he realized she had good reason to worry. He wasn’t a particular large yet. At this point, he’d have trouble fighting a leopard, a grown lion or a great number of other species that hunted and fought in groups. Not to mention all the dangerous prides out there but at least he’d been warned about some of them.
“Some of the older lions told me which places to avoid before they left. I’ll be careful.” He said firmly, hoping his sister would appreciate his honesty. It would’ve been easier to answer her worry with a cub-like reply (“I can take care of myself!”) than to admit he wasn’t the strongest lion in the world but that wouldn’t ease her concern, now would it?
“Don’t start talking about resting when we’ve just begun our journey.” he said after a brief moment of silence, chuckling quietly. ”We have a long way to go, little sister.” His tone was warm and he choked up a bit at the last words. He missed her already.
