It was a warm day outside, and Oin couldn't resist sunning himself on the ledge by one of the many caves of the dwarves, humming to himself contentedly, an ancient dwarven hymn as he rested, eyes closed, not a care in the world.
The pride was beginning to blossom with new life, and his brother was bringing more-- they even had hope more Dwarves were waiting to come home. It was a healthy beginning, and an awakening the pride needed. Some feared it-- and he understood that, but the once-prince accepted it with his title long ago and right now, he had warm sun and a good spot. Calmly, the male yawned, a reminder the fluffy, small male was still made of muscle and claws and teeth. Perhaps today would be interesting as well.

Asali was having a great day. A safe, comfortable place to sleep with enough food and water, where she and Aanga could both rest their paws for a while - this alone was enough to put the blue, white and yellow lioness in a happy mood. When it was added to the fact that she finally had some company that she could visit with, potential friends and acquaintances... well, it made everything just perfect.
The young lioness trotted about, inspecting here and there, and finally came upon a ledge where a lion rested. At first, Asali thought he was asleep, but a closer inspection revealed that no, he was awake - at least awake enough to yawn. And that meant awake enough to greet.
"Hello~!" She called out. "Hello there! Would you like to talk for a little while? It's a nice day for some company~!"

Oin almost fell asleep.
Almost being the key word, but movement caught his eye and he watched a female move about, and blinked, head raising when a new face greeted him, a female in blue, yellow, and white. What was-- Oh! How nice!
"That does sound lovely." Oin smiled, raising and climbing down carefully, beaming kindly.
"And where are you from? Have you travelled far?"
Oh, exciting!

This wasn't quite the reaction Asali has been expecting, but it was a welcome one! It was rare for her to find a likeminded individual, but she might have just found exactly that. The lioness smiled at the male, blue eyes twinkling as he came down to greet her.
"It does, doesn't it? I've never had enough company while wandering - my big sister has always been so wary and on guard around strangers. That would tire me out!"
Nodding, she turned and looked out, away from the caves and off into the distance. "I'm from.... nowhere in particular, really. Aanga and I have wandered a very long way." She glanced at her companion and rolled her shoulders in a tired shrug. "I think my paws were about to fall off! Have you ever traveled, sir?"

From nowhere? Oh, what a pity! He wanted to groom her, reassure her! But he behaved.
"Not myself, dwarves rarely travel. My brother is, though. Travelling, I mean. Seeking members." He smiled. "My elder brother is the King. Ahhh... Forgive me. I am Oin." He bowed, feeling oddly... Cub-like. Clumsy.
Probably the pretty face.

"Oh!" Asali gasped, breaking into another smile as she returned the lion's bow. "I met your brother, then! The tree-lion." She tilted her head a little and blinked. "He seemed very serious... oh, oh gosh I didn't tell you my name, did I?" She found herself laughing a little and shuffling her paws. She didn't usually get embarrassed, so why did she feel that way now?
"I'm... I'm Asali. It's very nice to meet you, Oin!"

"Tree-lion eh? That's new, but his head is thick alright. Stubborn too. Very serious, never relaxes." Oin laughed, deep and from his chest, beaming.
"It's my pleasure to meet you, Asali. So how is my brother? Did he journey far? Are others with you? Has he returned?"
Oin... Danced, hopefully.

"Yes!" Asali giggled again, a truer sound this time. "My sister Aanga is like that too. Always so serious," she said, and tried to form her expression into a grim scowl. She failed after only a moment, bursting into more laughter from the effort.
"I don't know how far he journeyed, but Aanga and I met him at an oasis, there are some others I think but I didn't really get to talk to them - and I think he's not far really but I'm not sure because I wanted to see everything there is here first!"
Trotting in a circle around the male, Asali continued speaking. "Do you think we should go look for him? Is it important? What do you do here, is this a nice home? I did healing for a little while at this one pride my sister and I were a part of for a time, it was nice."

THORIN WAS HOME.
"There will be a celebration, actually, a grand one!" He beamed. "Here... We fight, we live, imbibe in n**, celebrate.... A healer though... Those're rare. You must be a special lady." He smiled shyly.
"So, are you and yours joining us, then?"
Aaand he gave the smallest hopeful look, unintentionally. "Would be nice to see the sun in th' caves...."

"A celebration?" Asali asked, her eyes widening. "You mean - everyone getting together and - and having fun and socializing and - and- " she cut herself off before literally bouncing in joy. "That sounds like so much fun! May I come, Oin? Please?" And then he called her a special lady, and she stilled, ducking her head and certain he could see her blush through her fur.
"Oh... really? I'm not - not special, really, I'm too silly to be special," she said, but brightened up again at his question. "Well... I'd have to convince Aanga, and she's about as stubborn and careful as they come but... I'd like to stay," she said, her voice quieting into an almost shy tone.
"The caves certainly seem welcoming..." she trailed off, returning his hopeful look with one of her own.

"Yes! We even bring the Hobbits in." He smiled.
She called herself silly, not...
Well.
"Sometimes cheer can be just what others need, lest they lose hope." Oin nodded. "If your sister is willing... I do hope you stay in our clan. I certainly know Thorin would appreciate a fellow grump." He winked.
"Would you like to rest, a bit?" He motioned toward the caves.

Asali nodded and started walking in the direction he indicated. "Well," she said, and smiled at Oin. "That depends. Will I still have company?" The lioness asked, swishing her tail and and forth gently. "Because if so, I'd like that, very much."

"Aye." Oin admitted. "I for one, would be honoured to keep you company."
He smiled and groomed her cheek, turning to lead her inside, as a proper gentleman should. And deep down...
He had a feeling this was the best day of his life.

Asali rumbled deep in her throat- a happy sound, and tried not to giggle like an overly-excited cub when he licked her cheek. "Then I'd be very glad to take a rest with such fine company," she said. Coming here, the tricolor lioness decided, was the best decision she and Aanga had ever made.
Now the only issue was getting Aanga to see it the same way...
