It was always a blessing to see that no matter how bad the economy got, that there were some franchises that found a way to survive when others failed, and the story of Blockbuster was one of ultimate triumph of an underdog. The one here in Destiny City, just three blocks from his house, was one of those underdog stories, and even when times were looking grim, Scott Erlea supported them, through the good times and the bad.
He recalled this place being one of his sanctums when he was younger, when it was just him and his older brother sneaking out with a $10 and renting as many movies as they could afford. It was a place he brought his siblings through the years, allowing each of them to pick out a movie, even at the expense of his own, just so that they could all be happy (though their choice in film always left him pondering of his kindness would be the end of him someday). Each time they were close to closing their doors for the last time, Scott could almost feel a part of his childhood wanting to die along with it.
But it managed to survive long enough for Blockbuster to get back on its feet, and Scott was happy to give them his services each and every week, when his allowance would permit such a splurge. Even today, after helping the twins with their homework and dropping little Sam off to soccer practice, Scott was there, sweaty and sucking in air from the run, and he was ready to indulge in a few good sci-fi horror films.
Tonight was going to be a great movie night, and it shown on his face as he more or less sauntered in, despite his slightly shabby appearance. "Gonna get a movie, yeaaaaaaah! Gonna be a good one too, I just know it!"Cooro Cooro BLOCKBUSTER STILL EXISTS, OKAY? XD

Little places like this worn out movie rental facility always fascinated Isha. How it struggled so hard to stay afloat in this world of high end technology that allowed the everyday person to simply watch any movie in their house. He could remember when he was just a little tot, when his mother and father would take him and his sisters out to grab dinner and a movie. Hehe, He could remember the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.. How they would all gather around the giant TV and watch it and eat popcorn.. Today, especially after the movie, everyone seemed so busy, or wrapped up in their own little world.. Feeling nostalgic in his day of wandering around the town, he decided to himself.. Why not? He always wanted to see how things have changed since the last time he had been in one of these places.
Isha had not been sure what he was expecting when he entered the place, but everything seemed so familiar, despite the sections for video games and all the extra candy. The whole place seemed to be a blast from the past to the kid, and with childlike glee, he quickly began to go through the aisles, his fingers tracing the tops of the cases.
A rather.. Strong smell reached his nose. Not entirely unpleasant, but obviously of sweat and grass, the smell of someone who had been outside for a good long while. Unable to suppress the urge to try to locate the scent, he uplifted his gaze from the case of a terrible 90's horror film, and rested it on a rather mustachioed youth. A soft 'pffft!" of a laugh came from Isha, and he quickly turned away, trying not to draw attention to himself and his almost rude sense of humor.

Maybe it was some borderline paranoia that Scott suffered from, or maybe living in a house full of wild and crazy children had given him supersonic hearing, but he certainly heard the start of a laugh and immediately knew it was directed at him. He wasn't sure why he knew, but he just knew it, deep in his bones. The only question about it was why they were laughing, and who was laughing, and that made Scott's mind run with the many possibilities.
The first and foremost reason that someone would have laughed was maybe his smell, which caused him to take a whiff of his shirt and shrug. No more worsen than his other days, though maybe a little worse than he thought. But given his recent activities, it was only logical that he'd smell like he just worked on. Besides, normal people don't laugh at someone that stinks. They move away from them or gag...
Which meant he might have been laughing at his choice in movies. He was standing in the cheap B-Horror section in a Blockbuster, with his hand hovering over Shark vs Octopus. Perhaps that was the cause of the chuckles directed at him? If so, then that person could go jump off a cliff. Because he wasn't going to change his taste in bad b-movies anytime soon!
No, that couldn't be it. Because the kid that was laughing at him was in the same section as him, which meant he had the same taste. So, it must have been his mustache, and that made Scott want to shrink and hide from the other boy's eyes. He gave a mumble, as he defended his 'stache, giving one of them a self-conscious tug. "I gotta grow it out... otherwise people confuse me for a flat-chested girl..."
It was quite pathetic, really, but what was Scott if not pathetic? Even he knew that!

Crap! It seems like he was found out.. Isha really needed to learn how to quiet down his laughter when it came to these sort of things. He always had a way to get himself into trouble somehow when he came across someone new. Seriously, every single time he met someone knew in this town, he got himself into some sort of trouble! Maybe this town was bad luck for him.. He didn't know, but it certainly seemed that way. And now he had gone and offended the other, though he was quite astonished that he had actually known why he had been laughing. With a few steps, he closed the distance between them, smiling sheepishly.
"It's charming, certainly! Please forgive my laughter, it wasn't making fun of you, no, it was for the uniqueness of it! And I understand the whole girl thing, believe me.. With my height and my over all soft features.. Perhaps people think of me in such a way as well!" his eyes went over to glance at the movie that the other had in his hand, his smile streching out into a grin.
"That movie is so terrible, I love it! But you know what is better? Piranhaconda. Ooh, and Sharktopus. Though I think Sharktopus came first... Either way, they are both awesomely terrible!"

When Isha said it wasn't meant to be a mocking laugh, Scott wasn't quite sure if he truly believed it. It wasn't that he was paranoid or bitter, but he had been teased for his appearance in the past, even downright bullied, and it wouldn't have been the first time someone told him a bold faced lie. However, Isha's explanation, as well as admittance of his own problems, seemed earnest enough, and it was enough for Scott to forgive him.
That and he called him charming, and it made him tug at his mustache all the more. Was he really saying that because he meant it, or was he just trying to butter him up and get back on his good side? Either way, Scott seldom received compliments, and while suspicious, he wasn't going to turn it away. "Charming, eh? Hm... well, maybe you're right. Maybe you should grow one too? This took me two years, and a lot of arguing with my parents."
A lot of arguing, but eventually they gave in, and they allowed him to have his mustache. So, it was all gravy as far as Scott was concerned. Another thing that made Scott quick to forgive Isha was his choice of movies, and he couldn't help but express his interest at the movies he listed off. His green eyes brightened and he actually got closer to Isha, dropping his voice before he had the chance to get too excited. "I've heard about how bad Sharktopus was but I can't believe a movie could be that bad. Well? Is it true? Is it really as bad as they say?"

At just the mention of himself growing a moustache, Isha couldn't help but crack up just a little bit, rapidly shaking his head.
"Oh no, no no, Even if I wanted to, I feel like I'd look far too.. Silly with any sort of lip hair, beard, or even overly bushy eyebrows. Besides, I think I'd rather stick with my smooth baby face, if for no other reason except that is what I'm used to. I don't think I'd look too outstanding with that AND these Giant coke-bottle glasses of mine!" For emphasis, reached behind his ears, pushing the ends of his glasses down a few times to make them bounce on his nose. They were quite thick, as he was to the point of being legally blind. Not that that had ever stopped him from doing anything.
"Are you kidding me? That movie.. Oh Geesh, that movie.. It brought tears to my eyes at how much effort went into that movie! I went to the point of watching it on the big ol' screen of my home more than a few times! The way it was animated, the exaggerated reactions.. The sheer FOOLISHNESS of all of the characters. It is a gold mine of emotions, I tell you!" His hands began to move as he spoke, moving in a bit closer too, grinning.
"It only got a 3.3 out of 10 on IMDb, and 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. Totally worth the rental fee, I must say!"

Scott tilted his head and allowed his imagination to get the better of him, as he was trying to imagine how someone like Isha would look with a beard or any kind of facial hair. All he could do was look at him and think of a girly looking Ben Kingsley, and that only made him want to seek out a movie with him somewhere in the credits. So, it was a no go for that idea, and he found himself agreeing with Isha. "Yeah, well... your glasses are cool anyway. You get to see and people will recognize you for them."
Though he half wondered if Isha was teased for his glasses, but really, it seemed like such an outdated and petty thing to bully someone over. Then again, being a victim of such bullying, every reason seemed petty. But it was nice to be able to feel like someone liked his mustache, even if it was some random kid at Blockbuster.
It was something!
And what luck did he have to find someone with the same taste in movies as him! It almost seemed too good to be true, and he began to wonder if he was dreaming. He likely was. He's been so exhausted lately that he probably feel asleep during class. Yes, that'd do it. He figured he'd get the most out of this dream while he could. "3.3? Wow... I... I really should check this out. It's one thing if the production cost was low and there's no heart, but it sounds like the really tried. And that's a train wreck I need to see!"
He grabbed the spare case for it, admiring just how real it felt in this strange dream world he was in. He then asked, "Any other recommendations?"

"Cool? Really?! I haven't hear that one too much! It's actually rather exciting to hear about! The last time I encountered someone who was.. Interested a bit in my glasses, he snatched them right off of my face." Then again, they were dirty at the time, and he wasn't mad about it, it was just something. It did feel like he was being teased about it in the end. The boy was kind enough to clean the.. Eventually. karma had punished him for stealing his glasses though, as not too soon after he put them on himself, he crashed into a bookshelf, sending most of it's contents splattering to the ground.
"Um.. Hrm.. I know there's Dinocroc vs. Supergator... And a bunch more by that same producer.." He gave his head a scratch, trying to think further, but coming up blank.
"I have a whole collection of them at my house! And a big ol' theater set up too, complete with a snack stand and all the little gizmos. It's really cool!" He wasn't trying to brag to the boy he just met, no. But movies.. Ooh, they got him so riled up! His siblings weren't really the type to just sit down and enjoy a movie that terrible with him.. Maybe this was the opportunity to finally make a friend! That would be awesome.
"I haven't even introduced myself! I'm Isha, I'm still.. Kinda new to the city? By Kinda, I mean that I've been here for a month or so, but have yet to make any friends. Isn't that kinda sad? It's like.. This whole town is bleh. Well, not Bleh, but just.. Sad."

Scott didn't have much luck with his bullies and karma, but in all honesty, he just didn't have that much hate in his heart to really care about them ever getting their just desserts. He'd simply rather them leave him alone, or find some way of making peace with them if only to have a bit of peace himself, but he was beginning to realize that there was just no pleasing some people, or if there was a way, it wasn't worth it.
So, best to avoid them until they decided it was time to pull their heads out of their asses, whenever the hell that'd be. This was his imagination getting the better of him anyway, so there was no real need to think of them, in fear of maybe luring them into his subconscious. No, this little dream was going just fine without them!
"Dinocrock and Supergator... huh... it's weird when Snakes on a Plane is more legit sounding than another movie... but then again, I liked that movie, so, yeah, goes to show my tastes!" Scott was happy to be talking to someone, ANYONE, about something that wasn't school related, and he stared at Isha with envy at the mention of his collection. "Woah... I don't usually get to buy movies... parents consider them a luxury that we can't really afford, so I pretty much just rent them from here. And a theater? With a snack bar?!"
Now he was curious, envious, jealous, and about ten other 'ous' right now, and he knew he had to be dreaming. There was no way ANYONE could afford that! How lucky was this dream version of... whoever he was suppose to represent, was! But his introduction came shortly after, and Scott was quick to introduce himself as well. "Scott Erlea. It's nice to meet you, Isha. And don't feel bad... I've been here my whole life and I maybe got... erm... enough friends to count on a single hand."
He did the mental math and confirmed this. "Most of the people I know are classmates, or siblings, and they don't really count as friends. As for this city being bleh... well, it'll eventually grow on you. Things get weird sometimes, but best to avoid those kinds of situations. So, about this collection of yours..."
He could have talked more about Destiny City and it's underground war, but in all honestly, he was more interested in Isha's personal movie theater. "Could... I see it sometime? I don't get to go to the movies often either... gotta bring all the kids and that becomes too much of a hassle."

"Yeah, it's kinda cool. No, I'm lying, it's freaking awesome!" The more excited he got, the thicker his accent became. Perhaps, at first, it was barely noticeable, as he had been raised in the U.S. for the majority of his life, but now that he was able to talk about something so entertaining for him, it just came out on it's own. Not that he minded, nope, not at all!
"Hrm... You to come see it.. Well.. I dunno about that.." He reached into his wallet, and pulled out a business card. It wasn't quite a business card, it was more of just a card of him drawn as a stick figure, with the address of his house, his cellphone number and the proper hours to call him. It was way easier for him to do this, in his mind, than just giving his number verbally! After all, he knew that he himself had a terrible memory, why should anyone else be any different?
"I'm just pulling ya' leg! After all, I normally don't have anyone who has the time of day to come and watch things with me, so the more the merrier! There's only one condition! Yes only one!" He picked up the other's hand, placing the card in it, then turned around, stroking his chin as if he was thinking hard about it, before turning around quickly, having a comically wide grin.
"We are to be friends now! Or become friends! Or something of the like! Now you can use two hands instead of one!"

Scott could only wish he had half, no, a third... no, maybe even a fraction of a QUARTER of the kind of awesome life that Isha had, and he couldn't help but want this dream of his to be true. He didn't mind Isha's accent showing through and he couldn't help but feel himself being swept away with the excitement as well, his green eyes beaming at the thought of having his very own theater at his home. "The most I can manage is setting up a fort with sheets... though the last time I did that, the radio fell on my head and soured the movie."
Right at the climax of the movie too. It wasn't fun, and Scott really let his brothers hear some colorful metaphors that day. He thought that looking back at the experience would get him to laugh, but he was horribly wrong. He forced the memory back to the back of his mind, and he looked at the card that was given to him. Was this kid serious? He had his own business card?
Still, who was Scott to turn it down, even if it only was a dream? He accepted the card, as well as his condition. After all, for as long as Scott lived in Destiny City, he didn't really have that many friends, and on the off chance that this figment of his imagination was... well, not make believe, he would have loved to have added to that small list. "Okay, then. Friends it is, Isha! First order of business in our new friendship is to decide which of these movies to bring home this evening! I'm kind of leaning on Sharktopus... gut instincts and all."

"Awesome! My first friend in Destiny city!" Isha just couldn't stop smiling now, nearly hopping in his spot! Probably not the the most mature thing to do for a sixteen year old, but he didn't care! He was already planning all sorts of cool things to do with him! Maybe they could go to the movies for real, or go rollerskating or even go to the park and have a break dance battle that he had been wanting to do with someone for like.. Ever! Unfortunately, this city seemed to be a bit more conservative than his old home..
No matters! Anything he could do with someone was something he treasured, even if it was something as small as walking to school together, though he didn't think they went to the same school.. He had no idea!
"Ooh.. How about this? You can pick all of them, and I gotcha covered! Then you can choose one of the to come and watch over at my place! Or all of them!" He paused for a moment in between his ranting, gasping in excitement. "We can make a giant fort! Huge fort and we can have a sleep over, we're not too old for sleep overs, right? And we can do all sorts of things!"
Having to take a breath, he stopped to think about what he was suggesting. Was he moving too fast? Naw, of course not! Enthusiasm one one of the things he was best at and he couldn't help but try to think of anything they could do for fun!
"This time.. No falling radios, but if you're worried, we'll wear hard hats!"

Now Scott could not refrain from seeing it this was a dream or not. Without warning, he gave his cheek a pinch, and sure enough, there was pain there. As well as Isha. Which meant this wasn't a dream, nor a figment of his overworked imagination, and despite the pain and the reddening of his cheeks, he wore a big, goofy, and relieved smile, to match Isha's excited bouncing.
"Sorry about that," Scott said, wondering if his new friend would think him either weird or a masochist for what he just did and defending himself. "I just had to make sure I wasn't dreaming or anything... because... yeah, I usually don't make friends this fast, and I thought I heard you saying that you were going to pay for all of them... so, I wanted to make sure I wasn't dreaming or making you up..."
Now that he made an a** of himself, he figured that he'd try to quickly sweep the embarrassment under the rug and get to taking him up on that offer. And a good thing too, as he had realized something very, very important. A sweep of his hand to both pockets reminded him that he had forgotten his wallet, but it seemed that today was his lucky day, it seemed. Who was he to turn down such an offer?
"Uh, I've never had a sleep over, so I think I have a couple of them to catch up on!" By this point, Isha wasn't the only one flooding in excitement, as Scott was joining in with him too. He wasn't lying- he never been to a sleep over before, and he couldn't help but feel himself being swept away with excitement. "Yeah, no radios. Oh, we can have soda! And chips! With dip! I'll bring donuts!"

"Oh,no worries, no worries! Though, if you were to have made me up, I wonder why I turned out to be Indian. Or red-headed. And why would you make me so short?!" All of his talk was accompanied by his every laughter filled voice, as he picked up all of the movies he was going to get for the two of them. He also grabbed a few, not-so-terrible movies for his sisters and brothers, so as to keep them away while he entertained his guest! His little brother was pretty okay, but his sisters LOVED to tease him about whoever he brought home. Whether it was a boy or a girl, they would tease him regardless, thinking that they were being cute or what not. They could go suck an eggplant for all he cared when it came to his guests!
"Hrm... I'm up for it any time, since it's soon to be summer break for the public schools, for sure, and I'm already out since I never got in since I got to the city too late in the year. So as soon as you ask your family and what not for permission, we can go ahead and plan a get together out! Lots of movies, foods, maybe even some games or something! I never get to play games with my siblings, though that's through the fact that we all have such different hobbies that we never really interact, but you know!"
All of the excitement he was feeling was bubbling out in a near endless rant! He wanted this to happen, like now! But of course, Parents and what not.

Isha's excitement more than bubbled over to Scott- it was completely consuming him at this point! He couldn't help but feel himself wanting to do a little jig to express the amount of joy that was in his system, but he refrained, if only to prevent himself from making a mess of the store. Still, it was enough to make him grin until his face hurt, and his volume control was more or less shot now as he explained. "My imagination's weird. I blame all of these weird movies I have such a strange relationship to, really..."
He followed Isha without question now, and it wasn't because of everything his new friend was offering to him. Sure, they all sounded great! He wasn't poor, though his parents were a bit frugal (and understandably so, given how many children run amok in the household). But he wasn't lying to Isha when he said he had few he could consider a friend.
Maybe he was desperate. But Scott thought little of it. He felt that he had deserved a friend, and all that mattered was that Isha felt the same way, right? "Well, gotta run it by my parents, but I can't imagine them saying no. They always said I needed to get out and be with kids my own age anyway, right, so... better start taking their advice!"
He wished it could have been tonight, but he had a few chores to do yet. That didn't stop him from looking for a piece of paper to write his telephone number for his friend, though, and he explained as quickly as he could. "I don't have a cellphone yet- mom says it's too expensive and that I'd smash it given my active lifestyle. And she's probably right. Just ask for Scott and they should put you through with little hassle... they might get curious, though, but ignore them."
Them being his family, of course. "And make sure you say you're a guy, or I'll never hear the end of it!"Cooro Cooro I think this is a good place to start wrapping up. We need to plot more in the future!
