The box itself was white, wide and flat. A standard, cheap clothing box, such as one might receive when using the free wrapping option in a clothing store. It wasn’t excessively large, but rather just right. A closer inspection would show that it was a previously used box, as there were remnants of tape on its sides. Today, however, there was no tape holding it closed.
If Jake were brave enough to look inside the box, he would find one intermediate trainee coat. The symbol of the Death division was on its back and its highlights were done in purple. Jake would hopefully recognize it as the coat he’d lent to Chester, and that Chester had left someplace other than Jake’s room.
It was clean, white as it could get, with most of the dirt and blood washed out. Any stains left behind had been deemed a lost a cause. It was still slightly tattered in places, but if one looked closely they might find a stitch or two added to the tears to keep them from growing. Still, it was obvious that someone had taken the time to give the coat some much needed love (and soap).
There was no note.
