It was hard to be alone most of the time. Olotti had known only the companionship of her mother while she was growing up, so it wasn't like she had grown up with a pride or anything, but there was still a gnawing in her sometimes to be around others. She greeted most strangers with nothing but friendliness, happy to meet anyone that she could socialize with, but those encounters were few and far between. The lioness never knew when her next encounter with a stranger would be, or if it would even be a friendly one. Many didn't share her enthusiasm when it came down to it.
Today Olotti just felt especially bad. Most of the time, the traveling and exploring was able to keep her mind off the loneliness, but not today. She had recently come across a young lion couple with cubs, and though they hadn't been very friendly, the memory of the lions remained in her mind. It didn't help that she was finally becoming old enough to have cubs herself. Either way, the thought of having someone that cared about her, or a family, or anything was tempting. She wouldn't want to say she was desperate, but she kind of felt that way.
