What does it mean to know the Lord?
How are YOU doing in your walk?

That's a difficult question to answer. I think that God is really beyond human comprehension. I'm not sure that anyone can really know God while on Earth. At least certainly not the way we know our human loved ones.

This might sound incredibly cheesy, but I feel the most connected to God when I'm playing music. Human language just seems too confining and...well, lame to communicate with the creator of the universe. They say that music is the universal language, but more than that I think it can express things that words cannot. It's raw, passionate emotion. For me, it's pretty much exposing my soul.

I do pray and speak to God with words (whether I vocalise them or keep them in my head), but when words aren't enough, I play and/or write music. Every piece of music I've written has been a prayer of some kind (and none of my music has lyrics). And those musical prayers are by far the most profound to me. Rather than using my brain and my mouth to pray, I feel that music opens up a direct line between God and my own soul. God gave me the talent I have, and gave me a calling to music for a reason. Music is how I feel the most intimately connected to God.

As for my walk, I feel that I'm in a really good place spiritually right now. Probably the best I've ever been. I've spent so much of my life being unsure of myself, hating myself, and seeking out validation from friends and family and lovers, largely because I hated myself so much that I couldn't fathom how God could ever possibly love me. Many times I felt that God had abandoned me, and felt that he was absolutely justified in doing so.

But more recently, I really feel that I have a positive, personal relationship with God. I've dealt with and overcome many of my (metaphorical) demons and most days I feel pretty good about being me. I've been able to find peace and reconcile with myself through a great deal of prayer and reflection, I'm much more sure of myself, and I truly feel the warmth of God's love within me.

To know God is to know what he considers righteous (and you do it) and knowing what he hates and you avoid partaking of it or encouraging it in any way.

Quote:
1 John 2:4 (NIV)

4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.

i.e. caring for the ones society ignores, the poor, the weak, the imprisoned, those in need with no means to fend for themselves; also, to carry out our responsibilities to each other as Christians, to continue edifying, admonishing in the faith, staying true to what Jesus, the prophets, and his apostles said, carrying out our Heavenly Father's will in all things.

My walk has been progressing along that vein and the family as well lately, even those in other countries. I see the work of his hand regathering his sheep. They're repenting away from their traditions with no biblical basis and back towards biblical truth. It's all good over here.

Knowing the Lord means first recognizing him as your Lord and your Shepherd. Then, you recognize his voice when he calls you in the Holy Spirit and when you read the Word. You'll know when it is Him talking because when you listen and obey, things happen.
