Crawling out of her den once more, the sleep was still heavy in her eyes. Her mate Dhoru, had long since left the den, probably out on another on of his thieving duties. She yawned heavily as she stepped outside, careful not to bump her head on the low ceiling. The sky was midway through the sky, indicating that yet again she'd slept through most of the day. Luckily she wasn't one to care how much of the day she wasted, she was much more a night owl. Stretching her paws out before her, she smiled as she warm sand spread between her toes. This was going to be a good day.
Goofy had spent much of the day gathering seaweed on the shoreline. He intended to dry it out so that it would be better for crafting later. Fortune wasn't one to smile on the big blue maned lion though. Seagulls had made the simple task much more difficult by ripping up pieces of the stuff to get to tangled sea creatures. Most of Goofies gathering had turned in to chasing off seagulls from his bounty. He was now much more worn out than some one should be from sea weed gathering. The bulky lion sat, heavy on breath, with his paws in the water. At this point in time he did not care much about what was left of his bounty. The seagulls had won.
The screeching and cawing of the gulls soon reached Nema's ears and she winced in agitation. She wasn't one to hate on the Earth's creatures, but she definitely had a certain amount of distaste for those birds. Not only were the really annoying, but the noises they made! UGH! She could feel her claws sheathing and retracting at the mere thought of them. Grumbling to herself, she knew what she had to do, and that was give those birds a piece of her mind. Taking a step forward, she paused a moment and turned to face behind her. 'Would you mind your own business? I don't care if you like them, they're driving me crazy!' Nema huffed to herself and rolled her eyes. 'No, i'm not going to hurt them, why would you think that? Just hush up and watch!' Now perturbed at her 'sister' for fussing at her. Nema sprinted toward the shore, where she found a sight she hadn't been expecting to see. A very exhausted lion, and a huge amount of seagulls presumably laughing at him. "Hey! What's going on over there?" She yelled across the beach, as she picked up her pace to reach her goal faster.
A females voice had the bulky male turn his head so fast he almost gave him self whiplash. A lioness came in to view. Great. Now some one would know of his great failure to gather seaweed. The embarassement had Goofy look off for a moment before gathing the courage to face the lioness again only to shyly look away. For a moment he reflected just how much of a failure he felt like. Just for a moment before turning back to the female to frown. Deeply frown. "Im being raided by a flock of seagulls." Each word made him feel that much more embarrassed to admit out loud. But it was true. The seagulls were, at this point, ,mocking him.
Nema had to stifle a giggle from the male, he looked so visibly upset at the situation. But at the same time it was a bit funny. "Well how about we raid them back?" She managed to say between trying to hold back her giggles. "I'm Nema by the way." She smiled her brightest, friendliest smile and nodded from the male to the birds in question. "How long have they been bothering you like this?"
Goofy lightened up a little when the lioness offered her name as well as a friendly nod. There was something warm there that made him let his embarrassement go. At least for the moment. "Raid them back? Are you suggesting we over power them?" He cocked his head to the side. "I've been at it all day I suppose. Finally gave up when you showed up.... Uhh.." He paused and lowered his head. A very small shy smile rested on his maw, "My names Guifi...err Goofy.... Which ever you prefer." His voice got a little tight and his head fell a little more. He was still a little ashamed but not as much as before. It must have been quite silly for Nema to come upon him in such a pathetic state.
"Well yeah. But not in a way that would hurt them. I sort of promised someone I wouldn't hurt them." She rolled her eyes at her own comment, now regretting the decision as she saw the disappointment on Goofy's face. "Well don't give up just yet! The two of us can take care of these pests!" Nema smiled awkwardly and approached Goofy a bit closer, witha slight nudge she pushed into his mane. "Come on, lets do this Goofy!"
Nema was getting closer to him. Guifi didn't know what to do. He kind of just sat there with his maw half opened and eyes wide as if she was approaching him fangs and claws out. But a slight nudge was all that came from the encounter. Goofy was pretty easily startled by most things. Lionesses scared him the most and often confused him but not in a way that was displeasable. Nema seemed nice enough at the very least. Goofy finally gave her a nod, "Alright! Uh.. How?" He was up on all fours ready for instructions.
Nema was up and raring to go! Anything to get rid of these stupid birds, she was so ready to start the nice day she had imagined for herself. But at Goofy's words, the excitement drained out of her face, and the awkward silence began. "Um well..." The silence was deafening as she stood there trying to think of something, "SAND!" She nearly yelled the words, as her front paws kicked up in excitement. "These guys are always all up in our business, so lets let them get up close and personal. Then we give them a mouthful of sand!" She laughed maniacally for effect before holding a paw out to Goofy. "Observe." Picking up a piece of seaweed with her teeth, she stuck her snout up into the air to attract the birds. Soon she had a nice pack of them attempting to peck at her cheeks in an attempt to steal her seaweed. She gave a quick glace at Goofy, winked and kicked up a large wave of sand right at the birds. Sending 3 or four squacking angrily in the opposite direction, while others came back for round two.
The sand in the mouth had the bulky lion wincing. That didn't look to appealing. However the longer he watched the more he saw the tactics come in to play. Birds followed after Nema and soon she had them eating her sand. Goofy was impressed. Awkwardly, he followed her example. He also got a mouthful of sand (cause thats what you were supposed to do right?) and seaweed. Before he knew it the birds were flocking behind him as well. The lion kicked off sand and managed to knock two away. Goofy grinned a stupid grin.
"There you go, you've got it!" Nema shouted over the loud birds as she kicked a foot full of sand right into another flock of them. "You don't want to hurt them, just make them realize you aren't playing their games!" She laughed hysterically as a bird fell to the ground next to her and cowered. Looking down at it, she gently nudged it with her paw. It looked her right in the eye and flew away in the opposite direction. "Looks like there's only one group left. Would you like the honors Goofy?"
So they were to scare them? Goofy was glad that Nema told him that before he made a meal of one of the fallen birds. The lions attention was cast toward the last group which looked a lot less cocky now that their friends were mostly scattered. The blue maned lion simply gave the lioness a nod as to not risk dropping his seaweed. Goofy was well aware that he was , indeed, a clutz. The run by started off well enough with Goofies big paws digging at the sand and a string of seaweed flapping in the wind behind him. That was until he managed to trip and find him self with a face full of sand. " ......." It didn't matter though. The group of gulls had grown wise to the games and took the time to scatter them selves after their kind. Their fast seaweed meal had come to a screeching hault. Goofy laid in the sand and hid his face unaware of the success.
Without much thought into it, Nema burst into a fit of giggles at Goofy's fall. It wasn't that she wanted to hurt his feelings, so much as that it was simply adorably cute. She watched for a second as the remaining birds scattered and then she skipped right over to Goofy, tugging at this tail and trying to dig him out of the sand "HAHA! We did it!" Giggling louder than ever she walked over to Goofy's head and began to paw at the sand around him. "C'mon Goofy, the coast is clear! Now you can go back to doing what you were doing!" Completely unaware of his embarrassment, Nema continued to pester at him playfully.
Goofy mostly just wanted to die in that sand. The giggling just helped that urge to curl up and die in to a husk of the lion he was. That was until he heard her cry out that they had done it. They had been successful? Like a shy turtle, slowly, the lions head reemerged from the sand. Cautiously. "Really? We did it?" He could hardly believe it him self. He was stunned actually. "What.. oh no. The seaweeds no good now.. I'll have to gather everything all over again," He frowned at the torn seaweed now all up and down the coast. The gulls had left but they'd done a good amount of damage. "Or... I suppose..." Slowly the lion got up, "I could re-relax some and start over tomorrow," He gave the lioness a shy playful smile.
"Yeah see?" She smiled as she stepped away so that he could survey the battlefield. Though her excitement soon turned to disappointment as Goofy delivered the news. "Oh well ... Hmmm" Frowning, Nema honestly had no clue what to do. He was right, the seaweed was pretty destroyed. As she stood there trying to come up with a resolution, she was caught off guard by Goofy's next comment. "Hmm yeah that does sound like a good plan. Do you mind if I relax with you? That was one tough battle." Returning his playful smile, Nema sat down next to him and awaited his response.
Tough battle? Come to think of it the two lions had showed that mob of sea gulls with out hurting a gull in the process. Now many lion warriors would be able to acomplish such a task as that? All and all , Goofy was quite proud of him self. "Well sure. If you'd like?" It came out more as a question. The bulky lion gave Nema a grin.
