There was no doubt in her mind now that the Ysali dragon was hunting her. Every time she went into the forest she could feel its eyes on her, watching her waiting for her to show some weakness. The past few times though she had been with her father as he had been working on regaining his strength by training. She would sit watching her father wield the spear in hand, her own wood staff in her hands as she watched him wide eye'd.
Though she had watched him practice hundreds of times before this time she was actually trying to learn from his diligence. Perhaps noting that she was paying more attention Burrom had cut his practice short, and rather then show her how to fight he bluntly stated he was heading back to the house spear in tow. He didn't offer any support and Tilawen felt...rather abandoned. Rather than follow him immediately she tried on her own to mimic the stances and swings that her father had demonstrated only moments before.
The stick felt clumsy in her hands, granted it was smooth but no where as balanced as a metal spear. Dropping the stick several times she flinched when she felt wood slivers enter her thumb and sucking on the afflicted area she reached for the branch again. There was of course the sudden increase in wind and she half turned to see a dragon mid jump lunging in her direction. The yasli dragon was apparently waiting for Burrom to leave before it had tried to go after its denied prize.
If there was anything to be said her reaction rate was getting a lot higher each time she had come to face this miserable excuse of a dragon. Suddenly ducking the dragon managed to hurl itself over her only to land crashing against a small thing tree breaking it. There was the scrabble of claws as it righted itself and turned to snap at her, how miserable as it met only thin air the girl having already backed up and was now bringing its staff down on its nose.
Even with scale hide it smarted causing the dragon to snort and bluster from the sting, but rather than stand and face her the girl wasn't stupid. Her father wasn't too far and if she ran she could catch up to him, all she needed to do was get out of the forest. Her feet hit the ground hard as she ran, her dress hitched up high as she ran so she wouldn't trip over it. The dragon was right behind her though its eagerness dimmed as the clearing broke out in front of it and it could see the figure of the man in the distance.
The girl was safe once again...
