After a rather long journey, Sebor had finally reached the edge of the infamous Stormborn pride. She looked out over the lands with interest, her tail swishing to and fro. She had heard much about this pride and was very eager to join, but first, she knew, she needed to best a Reaver in a fight. That shouldn't be terribly hard, she wagered. And if she did lose, she could always try again. A very noble pride, she thought, to allow such failures and attempts. She supposed it wouldn't do them good to turn a rouge away simply because they had a bad day of fighting...hunts were unsuccessful quite often too, but that didn't mean you didn't hunt after a failed one. You still needed to eat, after all. Golden eyes scanned the area for someone she could challenge, and she let out a little growl of frustration as she came up with nothing. Surely this was where the guards stood, where the Reavers would gather to fight any willing recruits. She had been told this was a hot spot for the little battles, if the scuffed ground and rocks around her had anything to say. "I challenge any that wish to test me," she finally called out. Perhaps they were just taking a nap somewhere, or maybe they were behind some of the distant rocks and trees. Something did stir, but she held her ground. It wouldn't do to flinch at the first sight of her opponent, after all.

Patrol again. How thrilling. Turisas really preferred viking to patrolling, but life couldn't all be going out and raiding, he supposed. There was wenching, too. And mint. But patrols were just so dull.
A frustrated growl caught his attention moments before he sighted a pale lioness with golden eyes. He watched her for a moment. He didn't think that she was a thrall. If she was, she'd certainly chosen an idiotic place to pause. On the border like this, a body might think she was attempting to run away. That never ended well. For the thrall.
He flexed his claws and considered this, regretting that he had not applied the poison for this patrol, since it seemed he would soon get to punish a wayward thrall. His thoughts interrupted shortly though by her proclamation that someone wished to challenge him. Well, not him specifically. Any who wished to test her, she said. That would do.
"Try me," he said, stepping forth. An enormous and muscular lion, Turisas knew what figure he cut in the eyes of lions unaccustomed to the Stormborn. Even for one of the pride he was pretty large, actually.

The huge lion that came around into her line of sight impressed Sebor quite a bit. Having been raised in the rouge lands, she wasn't used to seeing massive lions, male or female. She herself was quite average as far as females went, so among the lions here she'd probably appear a bit small. No matter, though. Size didn't mean anything in her book. The bigger they came, the harder they fell. When the striped lion offered himself for the challenge, her annoyance left her. Perfect. She loved to prove herself against hard tasks, and if this lion had anything to say about it, she knew her introductory battle would be one to remember. "Much obliged," she said, not one to forget her manners despite her gruff exterior. She didn't waste much time after that, literally leaping into action. Her powerful legs launched her directly at the male, claws extended, teeth bared. She wasn't about to start this fight by feinting or dodging. It would be a rather impressive clash of strength right from the start. A literal clash, as she slammed into the other lion upon landing, sending them both to the ground in a tangle of claws.

Much obliged. Whatever did that mean? Turisas sighed mentally. Outlanders and their expressions were so very strange. He didn't mind having them in the pride, but it strained his brain to figure out what they were talking about before they picked up on the proper way to talk like Stormborn.
He let her hit him. He even moved into it. She was a small little thing, and it wouldn't do him too much damage, he suspected. At worst they'd both fall over. Oh, horrors. Given his size compared to hers, she would do well to avoid that. If he pinned her, it would be over for her.
As they fell to the ground in the wake of their impact Turisas rolled in an attempt to put himself on top of the lioness and end this quickly. If he got lucky, he might even get lucky, though to be honest this lioness wasn't his type. He liked them darker. Like Nadja. His mind drifted off as he considered the priestess.

Sebor felt the huge lion starting to shift to pin her down. She couldn't fault him for using his weight to his advantage, and she wondered if all of the lions here were his size. If so, she'd probably have to watch where she stepped. Making one of these lions angry could turn into a very bad situation. Like now, she could feel his weight alone pressing down on her legs and starting to crush them. But she didn't stay there very long. She delivered a swift attack to the male's face, claws raking over his cheek to distract him. She pulled out from under his form, turning to face her opponent once again, realizing a bit belatedly that she had hit him way too easily. His mind must have been elsewhere. "I would appreciate it if you actually tried," she growled. "Unless your idea of fighting is sitting there like a fuzzy rock and letting your weight do the work." Perhaps a bit of baiting would get him to focus.

Turisas turned his head to the side, letting the female's claws breeze by him as she scrambled out from beneath him. She was fortunate that he had not coated his claws this day, or the first blow he landed would make her extraordinarily uncomfortable. Nadja told him it was cowardly to use poison, but that didn't stop her from grinning when he told her about how her concoctions took effect against his enemies. But his claws were clean now. Safe. Other than being very sharp.
Still thinking of Nadja, for she was constantly on his mind it seemed, he returned the blow, slashing quickly at her head while she growled a complaint about how he wasn't trying. He thought, Oh, good. Another mouthy female. Just what the pride.
Turisas may not have understood the phrasing particularly well, but a lifetime of dealing with prickly Nadezhda had taught him how to recognize when someone was couching annoyance in polite terms. He'd managed to annoy this lioness by the way he fought. Or, to hear her tell it, the way he refused to fight. He smirked. She may prefer that he fight her like she was fighting him, but it was really in his best interest to do exactly as he was doing. Baiting worked both ways, after all.

The silence she was met with made Sebor raise her brows and lift her head. Was this really a Stormborn? Perhaps he was just a passing rouge who had heard her challenge. He had so little care for this skirmish that she wondered if she could just waltz into the pride without a fight? That would be interesting. "Well then. Since you seem to care about the caliber of your new members so much, I suppose I'll just regard myself a Stormborn and just...go on in." She knew turning her back was a dangerous move, but at this point, she'd do anything to get him to fight. She did turn, though, and started to head into the pride's lands. If he did belong he should stop her from entering without being deemed worthy. And if he was just a passing rouge...well. She'd run into a real Stormborn at some point, she was sure. She couldn't waste her time or energy on lions that meant nothing, after all.

Turisas let her walk away from him, toward the pride. With her back turned, she couldn't see him smirking. She surely expected him to rise to that challenge. He could not ignore it in good conscience. But he wasn't going to grant her the satisfaction of thinking that she had finally figured out a way to call his bluff. It didn't occur to him that it wouldn't matter how far away he let her get before moving to stop her, he was still dancing to her tune. Turisas was sometimes easy to manipulate in that way.
It had taken effort to hold himself still while she brushed past him, but he did it. And he continued to smirk as he turned on stalking paws to watch, gauging how many paces it would take before he caught up with her, overtook her, and brought her down. He couldn't give her too many, or she would hear him coming and begin to flee, which would be fun for him, but not much like an askorun. You did not join the Stormborn by being fleet of foot.
He waited a few more seconds that seemed very long, then he launched himself after her, his long running strides eating up the ground between them. This was not the tireless jog of a viking band on the move. It was the sprint of a hunter bringing down prey. It didn't take long for him to reach her, probably because she actually wanted this fight, but simply matching her wasn't enough. He deliberately overshot and turned, tearing up the ground as he abruptly changed direction and planted himself in front of her, lips drawn back and teeth bared.
"You might be able to walk into the pride, but unless I or another reaver says you beat one of us in battle, you will be driven out or killed. No chance to fight your way back in. You should rethink your strategy."

Sebor waited, keeping her paces even. She knew she wouldn't be allowed in the pride should she enter like this, but she needed to win a fight, and the male currently wasn't fighting. What else was she supposed to do? But her plan worked, and she found herself face to face with the lion once more. She lowered her head, claws extending to dig into the ground. "Then let's save everyone some time and effort and finish this," she growled softly. She bounded forward once again, but this time decided to use her size to her benefit. Rather than attacking the male head-on, she dodged at the last moment and raked at his shoulder with a paw, teeth snapping at his hind leg. Her moves were quick and light rather than bold and brash as they had been before. As much as she wanted to show she wasn't afraid to attack face-to-face, she knew that against this particular lion that would never work. He was too big and sturdy to go down like that. Spinning away from the attack, she found herself facing his side, and she held her ground to see what he would do in return.

"Fine." At least he wasn't thinking directly about Nadja anymore. She had returned to being a part of the background of his mental landscape instead of the forefront. He was basically devoting all of his attention to this fight.
In return he shifted his hindquarters out of the way of her teeth and then moved in with his teeth, jaws spread wide as he attempted to bite her face. A risky move to take in an askorun because it could blind somebody if done the wrong way, but Turisas was truly a very good fighter and had excellent control. The only way she would be seriously hurt, was if she did something unexpected, and since there weren't that many ways people dealt with having lions trying to bite their face, there weren't too many unexpected outcomes.

Sebor was honestly surprised by the attack. It was a very odd place to bite, and she froze for a moment. Teeth clamped down on her nose and jaw, creating uncomfortable pressure. But she took it in stride, lifting both front paws above her head to slash at his now unprotected face. She couldn't see very well, though, her line of vision obstructed by the male's large mouth, and had to hope she wouldn't do terrible damage. This was just a joining skirmish, after all, and now that he was devoted to the fight she wasn't as snippy.

Turisas squinted against the claws battering his face, glad for his thick mane and the ridge of his brow which protected his eyeballs from being too damaged. He couldn't believe that she wasn't giving in. This was not really a winning position for her. Some lionesses just did not know when they'd been beaten.
Since he didn't actually want to pop an eyeball or something equally permanent, and since she wasn't surrendering as he had expected her to do, Turisas would have to try something else. The first thing, though, was to quickly let go of her, which was nice anyway since it wasn't exactly easy to keep his jaw from closing or opening any more than it already was.
"I could have blinded you right there." In case she hadn't noticed. Which he doubted. She was female, but that didn't necessarily mean she was dumb. Nadja wasn't, and she couldn't be alone in being a not-dumb female.
"You still want to continue?" he asked, just in case maybe she'd been unable to admit defeat before. It didn't occur to him that by letting her go, he had basically made it much easier for her to continue than if he'd just held on.

As the lion let go of her head, Sebor ducked away and shook the sensation of teeth from her skin. If that had been a real fight, she'd have been done for. But this was a duel, to prove her worth. Her determination and stubbornness didn't seem to be winning him over, and her fighting skills were up to par as far as she could tell. He just needed some...persuasion. As he spoke, she lunged forward again, a silent snarl on her face. Just knock him off his feet, catch him by surprise. Something to either make him want to throw in the towel or let her in based of will power alone. She kept her claws in this time, using only muscle to attack, going for his shoulder with hers. She did turn her head to snap at his neck, teeth sliding through his mane in a warning. She was definitely close enough to get real skin and muscle if she wanted, so it was certainly a calculated snap. Princess_Feylin Want to wrap it up in the next post?

Turisas assumed he could interpret the lioness's lunge as a yes. Imagine that. She certainly had the fearlessness of a Stormborn, though not as much good sense as one could hope for. She was only female though, so that probably wasn't something she could help. A good husband would see to it she kept herself out of trouble.
As soon as he realized that her claws were sheathed Turisas decided he was not in any real danger from the lioness and did not bother to make an effort to evade her charge, bearing the force of her blow on his shoulder and barely keeping his feet. As she turned her head to snap at his neck he aimed a casual blow at her head designed either to stun her for a moment or ward her off. He would be content with either result.
"Enough. I have known better fighters, but you probably won't embarrass the pride with your abilities. Congratulations." It wasn't a ringing endorsement, true, but it would be sufficient to gain the lioness entry.

The larger male's paw made her duck and bounce away again, teeth bared in annoyance. But finally the words came that she had been looking for, even if they were a bit laced with scorn.
"Thank you," she muttered, not one to forget her manners even where someone else might. She turned away after that, heading into the pridal lands. She had no idea what she was doing or where she needed to go, but anywhere to get away from this lug would be a blessing. Taking her time, she picked her way from the rouge lands into the Stormborn, glad she had only needed one shot to make it through.
