A fabulous spring day. Ness fluttered here, there, and everywhere. Every now and then, she'd stop and land somewhere to do some cartwheels and backflips. She even stopped on a high tree branch to do a little side step to a tune she hummed to herself. Yes. She hadn't been enjoying that darned winter much. This warm spring sun. This she could get with.
As the day got on with, she happened to be fluttering down to the ground for another round of ostentatious presentation of her flexible body in all it's fun loving activities. As she was frolicking about, her eyes spied something purple. Blue eyes, blue eyes, what do we see? A beast full of fluffy purple fur looking sad and lonely near that tree? Let's go see why. Maybe we can make him feel better?" Though there was really no 'we'. She was only talking to her eyes. It was something she did. Talking to random parts of her body as if they were her companions when there was noone around to talk to.
She skipped happily over towards where the lion sat. "Hey... Hey you there..."

Quinton was licking his foot and frowning. He had stepped on something pointy and it was stuck in his foot. He was very upset about it cause he couldn't play or enjoy his day or his toy! He had his toy cupcake but it was useless cause he could not use his foot! This was not fair! It was such a wonderful sunny day but he could not do anything cause it hurt so bad. He frowned and chewed and licked at it trying to get it out but he was having no luck. His teeth were too big to grab it and licking hurt more then walking.
He heard someone coming towards him and frowned. "Fox i am not in the mood for games and pranks today! I am very cranky with something in my foot. So please what do you need and if its just to bother me then go away if you would so i can suffer alone." he said with a sigh. He wasn't like this normally, he liked to play and he liked to enjoy his days and have fun. But he was very angry at his foot right now.

She just stared at him slightly taken aback in midstep. It was totally a freeze in step motion she did for a few moments. Neither of her wings gave the slightest flitter. Then, she resumed but approached slow and carefully.
"Oh no! Well, why don't you let me help you? I can help!"
She hurried then over and quickly zipped up alongside him. She popped up next to him. Then, she disappeared from there and quickly moved to peeking up over his leg and towards his foot.
"Ok now. I need you to lift your foot up towards me, so I can see what it is we are taking out of it." She looked at him like he was an adorable little cub. He did say he was grumpy. "I promise! No tricks. I'm not that kind of fox. I mean... not that I don't enjoy a nice fun game sometimes. Games are much better when everyone gets to play."
Then, she walked up and put a paw on his shoulder. She tried to look straight into his eyes. "Hey.. look at me. You can definitely trust me. If you couldn't trust me; you probably can't trust anyone. Now, let's see about your foot." She smiled and smoothed the side of his mane. A bold actions he knew. She only hoped he wouldn't bite her arm off.

Quinton looked at her and was surprised at how quickly she moved. He growled a little from nervousness and watched her suspiciously. He flinched when she was too close to his foot and he felt worried she would make it hurt on accident but she just looked and said things. He tried to calm down but he still hurt and he was worried it would never come out of his foot and he would be a grumpy mean lion for ever and ever! He didn't want that. Suddenly she was petting his mane and telling him to calm down and he took a breath and sighed and lifted his paw up towards her face. A large thorn was stuck in the very middle of his paw. It was bleeding a lot from him worrying at it and trying to get it free. "I can trust you. I just hurt a lot and i don't want to hurt any more." he said with a sigh.

Ness smiled with upward squinted eyes and a big smile. She hugged him from behind and whispered to him nice and soothingly that "everything will be ok." Then in a blink she had moved around to the front of him to get at his paw. She put her face up close to look at just how it was stuck in the paw. She scrunched her face at all the blood. "Well.. that won't do huh? Not only is it hurting you.. but losing all this blood is gonna make you feel tired and possibly not feel so well later."
She then tried to flick out a claw by itself. It was tricky, but she flung her paw down a few times till she got the one out she wanted. She then slowly and methodically slid the tip of hers in next to the thorn. She moved her face to look at him sternly. "Now, this is gonna hurt a little bit, so what I need you to do is.... Bite down on something really hard. Ok? Because even though it hurts; we can't get it out without it hurting just a little bit more. The hurt that will come now will only last a moment. When it's out, you'll feel much better. Promise!"
She then went back to the paw. She slid her claw tip in and started to root the thorn out. Sadly, it was in there well, so she had to take her claw tip out and slide it in around the thorn on four different sides to loosen it from his flesh. She was concerned about the bleeding, but at the moment she couldn't see anything close by to stop it. Too bad she wasn't a goddess of healing rather than affection. Oh well... a girl's just gotta do what she can do then.
Once she got the thorn to a point out enough, she clenched it with her teeth to pull it out. She stuck the same claw tip from her other paw into it to hasten its removal.

Quinton looked at her and then frowned a little as he tried to calm down. As soon as she touched it a little with her claw he roared out loudly and growled in pain but not at her for it. He reached over and pulled a thick stick into his mouth and chewed on it as he growled and tried not to look at her. As she worked it lose he growled louder and louder and clamped down on the stick so hard it snapped in his mouth. He roared so loud that birds took flight in fear as they flew away from the angry lion. He was still as best he could be in the pain and finally when he felt her teeth pulling it out he gave a little jerk with his paw and felt it come free. Growling and pulling his foot to himself he licked it and growled softly as he tried to calm down. But he hurt and was trying to calm down a little. "Thank you...." he said softly as he took a breath to calm and licked at his foot.

Ness looked at the thorn. What a great big mess such a little thing could make. She flung it away into the forest side where all the trees lined up. She then sat down and watched him lick his foot. "Do you want help with that too?"
While she waited for his answer for not wanting to be too forward in licking his foot without permission; she walked around him and sat on his side and rubbed her paws on the backsides of his arms. She nuzzled her face into the middle of his back. "See... it just hurts right now. Bet soon as it's all cleaned up; your foot will heal quickly. Lions have that in their favor. Being big beasts who have such heavy fur; their bodies are so hot. Infections don't often take root in them, and their wounds can heal faster than some of us smaller animals. I'm sure if that had been me; my injury wouldn't heal quite so quickly."
She then let go and pressed her paws into the ground. She walked on her front paws with her hind feet in the air. She walked around in front of him. "If you like though.. I can stay here with you until it feels better. Just in case of a rare infection or something... Sometimes it can feel unsettling to have injuries."

Quinton looked at her and calmed himself. "I think you can stay if you wish. I like company and have had none recently. But i wish to go to the river and clean my foot. And eat some fish. That sounds nice. I haven't been able to eat well in days cause of my foot." he said as he stood and carefully moved his foot about. He stood on it and winced a little but it felt better. He walked towards the river and smiled. "What is your name nicer goddess? Im called Quinton." he said with a smile as he moved towards the water and slid right in and rolled about to get clean and clean his foot.

She fluttered along side him making sure he was making it to the river ok. She just casually went along with it all just as he said he wanted. She didn't mind playing the role of a pleaser. She existed to help make others feel better, and if this is what he needed, she was happy to do it.
"I'm Ness. Nothing fancy; nothing complicated. Just Ness. I guess sometimes I'm also called Nessie...but... that's usually when i'm gotten to known better. It is nice to meet you though Quinton. Let us consider each other friends. Anytime you need me or are lonely; just call for me. I will always come."
She thought about his talk about food. "Yup. Something to nibble on wouldn't be so bad. That's too bad you haven't been able to eat. I wish I had found you sooner. It must have been terrible to suffer like that all alone." Her eyes looked at him with great compassion and tenderness. "Can I help?"

Quinton licked at his foot and dragged it through the water. "Oh im better in the water now. It feels good. And i can hunt fish, which i like better then deer some times. So im ok. do you want a fish too?" he asked as he scooped up his own fish, bit off its head and tossed it onto the grass to keep it there so that he can eat he was done. He got himself another one and looked at Ness to see if she wanted one too. She was nice and he would catch as many fish as she wanted.

She eagerly watched the way he fished. He did it much quicker than she did. She usually ended up all flopped around in the water and quite water bogged. She swished her tail back and forth when she watched the fish fly up onto the grass. "Oh sure. I'd like.. um.. two... would be good. Unless they are very big, and then one would be suffice."
