He had noticed, in a number of his observations and encounters, that senshi seemed to enjoy dropping down from above. This evening, while powered up and deep in thought, he sought to test that practice out himself. If there was a chance of being spotted or detected at least he would have the upper hand?

Besides, who else would think to perch upon Destiny City's public library, of all places?

There was someone perched on top of the library, sitting at its highest overhang and looking out over the city. He had his shield resting in his lap, his hand idly tracing the emblem of the dragon on its face. He was lost to his thoughts, watching the city as it moved from a busy waking to a sleepy night time. His patrol would start soon.

He felt something approaching and turned, not feeling any spark of fear. Maybe he was jaded, but he could tell that it was a lower rank negaverse soldier, and not one of the higher ones that he would need to worry about. Instead, he felt a momentary spark of hope.

He didn't get up, but he turned toward the source, seeing the Lieutenant once he climbed up to the roof.

"Good evening," he said leisurely, imagining the knight was not what the Nega was expecting to find. But why was he at the library? It made Camelot a little nervous, if only because he was protective of the place.

"..." There was a bit of momentary startle on the young man's face, although it was something that he seemed to cover quickly, if not well. He was used to keeping his emotions in check, it seemed; used to playing things off, and maybe just the slightest bit arrogant because of that.

Arrogance, in this case, did not excuse any lack of cautiousness, however, and there was certainly a lingering trace of it even as he straightened himself up, hopping down off of the ledge he had just climbed over. "For some, I suppose. For others that's yet to be proven. Temperate, maybe. Shaping up to be a nice night, sure. Good? I was recently told that 'good' was subjective."

He rocked on his heels lightly as a deck of cards appeared in his hands. If it weren't for the fact that they seemed so ordinary it might have looked like he was drawing a weapon. He shuffled them, idly, something that seemed to be turning into quite the habit. "I didn't think anyone would be here." Obviously.

Camelot arched his eyebrow at that answer.

"I suppose it is subjective, I should have asked if you were having a good one." He didn't move for his shield, though he did notice the Nega had a batch of cards with him. He knew enough about knights and the negaverse to know that simple items like that were what passed as their weapons in their first stage, so it was not uncommon to see something like that.

He also knew that they were likely just cards, so they weren't exactly threatening. Really, it looked like a nervous habit more than an intimidation tactic.

"Well, this is usually where I start my patrol, though I'm a little slow to it, tonight. I was spacing out, I guess. You're not here to fight, are you? I'd rather not." He was assuming that the Lieutenant was new, as most of the ones he ran into usually were. He wondered if it was too late to try and talk to him about the perils of Chaos, like a modern day public service announcement for space.

"No, I can't say that I'm here for a fight... Or that my fifty-two pick up would be all that effective against someone with a shield." He managed a wry grin of sorts, shuffling through his cards once more before vanishing them with a slight of hand. He then held out both hands easily, palms up, even going as far as to then tug his coat sleeves up to confirm that there was nothing at all up either of them.

"... You look a little on the old side to be a senshi, you know. No offense." Rather blunt, easily to the point, clearly still a teenager. "And there's too much of an aura about you for this to just be an elaborate superhero cosplay... So you have to be something else." Something new, at least new to the point where he had never come across it before.

"Lieutenant Richterite, and you are?"

Camelot shook his head.

"No, I think I could block your cards pretty easily, you're right. It's not my age, though, that makes me not want to fight." He squinted at that a bit, his nose wrinkling. He was just getting older. He'd just has his forty first birthday about a week ago, though he liked to pretend that hadn't happened.

Could he just say he was 29, like all ladies did?

"I'm a Knight, not a senshi. Camelot, Knight of Earth, to be exact. It's nice to meet you, Richterite." He nodded his head in greeting, having adopted bows and being generally polite as a thing.

He was a knight, after all, he was supposed to be chivalrous.

"I guess you've not run into knights before? We're sort of like you, except... with the Chaos. I mean, literally." He laughed at that, though it was a little rueful.

Knight. He remembered vague things about knights from Elysian, or maybe he didn't... Maybe he should have? It was odd, either way, that tingling sensation that it was something that he should know about; should remember.

He took the other's hand, giving it a light shake in return for the sake of not getting himself into some sort of stupid fight that wound wind him in a world of pain later, for once.

"Honestly, it's been a while... I might have run into one in passing; in Elysian, or at the Surrounding, but I was more interested in saving my own skin then as opposed to figuring out who, or what, I was fighting against." His shoulders shrugged lightly as he drew his hand back so that he could gesture towards the elder man. "I wasn't anything like that before I was touched by Chaos."

"That long ago?" he looked surprised, but then tried to bite his tongue. Maybe it wasn't something the Lieutenant wanted to talk about. After all, promotion was important in their ranks, and it was a way of proving their power. It was also more and more exposure to the corrupting force of Chaos, which was a scary fact.

The stronger they became, the more lost to Chaos they were.

"No, you were corrupted into what you are now. The Negaverse makes its soldiers by corrupting a starseed. But every starseed, if left alone, has the potential of a knight, I think. I can only speculate, but every Negaverse soldier that is purified becomes a knight, and likewise any Knight that is corrupted because a Negaverse soldier. Two sides of the same coin. The only difference is Chaos itself, and how it's tainted the person it's... ah... touched."

Thinking about those he'd lost to corruption made his heart feel heavy, but he knew there was a chance to save them, if only they would think about purification.

"Taint, corruption, awakening, having ones eyes opened... There are so many ways for it to be worded, aren't there. We were discussing that the other day, one of the Generals and I.The verbiage tends to depend on who you are talking to and how they view it, which comes right back to how subjective things can be."

He shook his head, tilting his head skyward for a moment. What the elder man was saying made sense in a way, really... But could he really believe it? There was someone, a girl, a name... Something else he should remember having heard someone talk about...

Again he shook his head as he lowered his gaze level at the Knight once more. "I know how it works; how it feels when they reach in and wrap fingers around your soul." Might as well call a starseed what it really was. "They feed just enough energy in to make something snap and then you wake up wondering what hit you while feeling like a million bucks at the same time; like you can do anything. That's what it felt like to me, at least."

He paused for another moment, kicking his toe at the roof of the building. "... If you're a Knight of Earth you should sympathize with our cause. Last I'd heard we were just trying to protect what was ours from scouts who don't belong here... But that was a while ago too."

"It shouldn't," he said, shaking his head. "Chaos is the force that fuels the Negaverse. It's not a positive force, it's not created from the warm and kind feelings of the universe. It stems from darkness, and no matter how it causes you to regard it, once you've been corrupted, it still damages a starseed. Even I know that youma are created from a broken starseed, destroyed by Chaos."

He wasn't sure of the details, but once upon a time it had been explained to him.

"I do sympathize with you, but I can't support you. What you're trying to do, the way you go about doing it... it's not the right method. You don't need to hurt people, to steal their energy like you used to or corrupt their starseeds to bolster your ranks. We don't have to fight. We all belong here, we're all humans. We're all born here, just like anyone else. Some of us just happen to have powers and things we have no control over sleeping inside us, be it potential to be a Knight or the destiny of a Senshi. What do you think the Negaverse would do if all forces of Order were suddenly gone? Go back to their normal lives? If they wanted that, they wouldn't have to be fighting, would they? Chaos thrives on just that. You'll seek more power, control. It won't ever stop that way."

"Maybe it isn't just Chaos. Have you pondered that? Maybe it's not just darkness. Maybe it's change. What if it's the change we need to realize our potential and explore our strengths? Youma... Are mistakes." Monsters. That had been the word on the tip of his tongue. He'd been told before, he was certain they all had, why those of lower ranks shouldn't try to push corruption. It was even a risk for higher ranks; a risk for anyone when Chaos was pushed into the cracks, expanding what was into what could be.

"Accidents happen, right? Good or bad, there are some things, some people, who just aren't meant to be." His tone of voice betrayed the words that came from his mouth, making it seem as though they weren't quite his... And yet they hadn't exactly been fed to him either.

"What about them? They have to want something out of this too. Can you honestly tell me that you trust them with your planet, Knight of Earth?"

"You don't see purification resulting in mistakes like that," he said with a slight shrug. If it was not evil, how could it produce such evil things? Chaos would not have been named that, from the first who cultivated it, without a good reason, right? It was hard to judge ancient word usage, and present day was even worse.

"The senshi? I trust them more than I do the Negaverse. When I was a civilian, a senshi saved my life from a Negaverse attack. And I will never forget that. Never have I been attacked by them, or put in danger by them, and most do what they can to protect the innocent just as I do. Some are misguided, but it's not from a force like Chaos. It's a product of the war, everyone fighting for ideals they don't understand. We don't have to be this way, you know. There's more to you, after all, then just Chaos. But you'll lose sight of it, the more you're exposed to Chaos."

He shook his head, leaning back though there was nothing to support him back there. He wasn't about to lose his balance, though, so it was fine. He looked at the younger man, shaking his head.

"In a perfect world, we wouldn't have to worry about powering up, about fighting one another. But as long as this ancient war continues, all of us fighting because we're told to, because we're awakened to that task and we accept it, nothing will change. Lives will be wasted, and that... well. That bothers me." To put it lightly.

"This isn't a perfect world, though. If it was parents would keep a better eye on their teens. There would be fewer of us out on the streets for either faction, Chaos or Order, to pick up. If it was we wouldn't be signing up for a war that no one seems to have a grasp on just so we can feel like we're a part of something; so we don't feel like we're so alone." That was why he had joined, at least; why a friend had put in a word for him and extended the hand.

"Something to think on, though... The Negaverse isn't the side calling children out to battle, like the senshi are. Have more Chibis been awakened? What of them?" He shook his head, running his fingers back through his hair. "I've been away for about a year and a half now... And for everything that's changed? It seems like there are just as many things that haven't."

Camelot nodded his head, since the point was fair. He did not know how fair, considering his own son was a senshi and he had no idea. He thought Nate was just a hoodlum, but it was not fair because that was also true. Nate just had a good cover in that.

It wasn't like the duo got along, or talked very much.

"You all talk about that, like it's something we're doing. But we're not like you. We can't choose who is on our side. Whatever power that is sleeping inside the senshi awakens when they are needed, as with the Knights: we don't stick our hands into children's chests and call them into battle. Your point is moot: if the Negaverse and Chaos did not make itself a threat, then no senshi would be awakened. If there was no reason to need to protect this planet, then our potential would never be awakened as knights, either. So you and your kind can pretend that awakening children some how makes us the villains in all this, but that's just another consequence of Chaos."

It was annoying to hear them whining about that constantly, like it was some sort of decision the senshi were making. Like they looked at little kids and thought, as the Negaverse did, that they would make good soldiers. In Camelot's mind, they were all kids. Teenagers certainly weren't full grown, after all. They were forced to grow too fast.

"Just another consequence of Chaos..." He murmured, parroting the elder man's words without necessarily meaning to do so. He repeated it again, this time laughing softly after, shaking his head before bringing his hand up to run fingers through choppy silvery locks.

"So you think we have a choice, then? Once it's said and done? Like we can just walk away once we've given ourselves over? It's a part of us, you know; the things we've done, the things we will do." He was laughing again, taking to movement once more as he began to pace along the rooftop. ?Some of the ones early on were taken without being given the option, from what I understand. Me? I had it explained to me. I agreed to this. I wanted to be a part of something bigger. We have a chance to change the world, Camelot. Isn't that what it's about in the end? the bigger picture?"
