Where: Clarus Arbor

User Image Things have been changing lately. Well, things might not be the right word. Life has been changing. Cedar found herself thinking more and more about her family that was dead. She liked to think that she had gone on to have a good life since then... She ran a small store that sold produce and flowers a few other odds and ends. She had a good steady flow of customers, but something seemed like it was missing.

Lately Lea hadn't been coming by to see her. Could it be possible that they were going their own separate ways? Cedar didn't want to think about that. It made her feel lonely, but it was a logical reason.... The store now, was quiet. The middle of the day tended to be that way. School kept Lea away. Looking out the window at the sun, it felt warm on her face. She thought back to her recent visit to Woodfall.

User ImageIf school was ever consistently good for one thing, it would have to be keeping Lea busy and on his toes, especially with the recent final exams that were the only things that remained between him and graduation at the moment. Don't get him wrong though. The young witch eater enjoyed his lessons thoroughly and the wealth of information that went beyond the scope of his curriculum and books. It was just the tests, exams and assignments that got onto his nerves at times on top of making the act of stealing energy from others a real challenge that he had to overcome lest he lost himself to the insanity that was bound to follow.

Done with his last paper (hopefully) forever, he hadn't wasted any time at all in looking up his current beau, pulling her close to him with practiced ease and smiling as he asked her if she had any plans for the coming weekend now that they were all done with school. Keeping the witch, whom he was leeching energy from, close and happy was what he had found over time the best way to go about this. Even better if they were intimately involved since he could always dismiss their sudden fatigue and lightheadedness as a case of being bowled over by his inherent charm. It wasn’t like him to be so shameless but the girls at the academy always loved themselves a confident and charismatic boy so things had all worked out in his favour in the end.

With a date set for the following day, he decided to pay Cedar a visit. He was already starting to feel a little guilty for not having dropped by for so long because of the exams and he figured that he might as well spend the entire evening with her while he was at it since he owed her at least that much. Pushing the wooden door open, he poked his head into her store, his ears flicking a few times as he tried to locate her current whereabouts.

Cedar missed the bell of the door opening lost in her own thoughts. After a delayed moment the voices came to her and with a start she looked straight at the door with a surprised expression. "Oh, I'm terribly so-" She was cut off as she gathered herself and noticed that it was Lea. Her heart skipped a beat, did she look okay? He was there! Her heart started to beat faster, as of late when Lea would come around. It was a strange sensation that made her feel a little light headed sometimes.

"Ah... Lea." She smiled warmly at him. Lea would always be Lea to her, but she could tell when she might not be wanted around, or her attention was unwanted. So rather then briskly walking over to hug him like she normally would have done, she walked back toward the counter. Maybe... Maybe it was more out of spite. Maybe she simply couldn't come to terms with that kind of a change happening.

"School should almost be over now, right? Getting excited for your Graduation?" She placed a hand on the counter and looked over her shoulder at him. She wondered if she would be invited to his, with Kei. Lea was the only one there for hers... But if he had a 'special someone' at the time, likely she would get the offer first. At least that's how Cedar felt. Yeah... She was jealous.

Was it really just him, or did Cedar seem a little… off today? Lea found himself wondering at the back of his mind, blinking slowly as he let the door fall shut behind him. Everything was exactly as he remembered right down to the shop décor and layout with Cedar standing behind the counter instead of coming over to welcome him with open arms… Oh. So that was the anomaly with the situation here. Go figure.

“How have things been as of late Cedar? You ah… know that it’s that time of the year with finals and all. Ahaha…” Lifting an arm to swing it over and scratch lightly on the back of his head, he smiled at her, hoping that she would be able to understand what it was that he was trying to get at. “Yeah. Assuming that I make the grade and there’s no ongoing conspiracy to keep me in the academy for another year.”

Nothing much that he could do about that if that turned out to be true he figured, shrugging lightly as he made his way over to where she stood. “Think you’ll be able to make it or will you be too tied up with the shop dealings to leave it in someone else’s hands for half a day or something?” He asked, a touch of hopefulness in his tone as he allowed his gaze to meet hers.

Cedar nodded at him letting her hips rest against the back of the counter. “Really? Well that’s good. I remember the days in the Academy.” She smiled lightly and then watched him. He seemed nervous, she would normally wonder why but she knew he was picking up her body language. She shouldn’t feel so guarded but she did. She was sure that Lea was her soul mate and she wanted nothing but to be at his side. Lover or trusted friend.

“Make it? To your graduation?” She asked, maybe he could read her mind. She scratched her cheek lightly and glanced her eyes away for a moment. “Well of course I’ll be there, if you want me. I wasn’t to sure if you’d have a ticket for me.” She smiled again, inwardly very happy that he wanted her to go. “I’ll just close the shop for the day… Are you going to have a party? Maybe I can cater it for you?”

Lea could never really figure out women. Not that he ever bothered trying very hard with those from the academy whom he could often be found in the company of. That was a relationship borne strictly out of necessity in order to facilitate him obtaining the magic sustenance he needed from them. The only reason why he had since developed a reputation as a player in the dating field and tolerated it all this while without trying to rectify it, was simply because it had worked into his convenience and advantage, given that he needed to constantly change his targets so as to avoid arousing any suspicion among the students and the professors. So long as he fed regularly and snuck a little snack behind the closed dorm doors of his current steady, his little dirty Witcheater secret would remain safe and he should be able to graduate uneventfully.

It was really a shot in the dark on his part that Cedar was probably a little miffed with his absence from the recent finals but even if that wasn't the case, he hoped that whatever they discussed subsequently would help somewhat in defusing her. Why couldn't women just be more upfront with their thoughts and feelings? He really had to wonder at times like these.

"Yeah. Makes you glad that that's all over and done with, right? I mean... just how much of all that the professors imparted do you really find yourself using as of this point in time?" It wasn't his idea entirely to be enrolled in the academy but Kei had insisted that he went with it if he wanted to gain a better understanding of his abilities so as to harness them better in the future. He had found it true on various accounts though he really wished that there was a better way about it like a private home tutor who knew about his 'condition', so he didn't have to resort to snacking on his classmates in secret the way he had for the past few years.

"Silly girl. Of course I'll want you to be there. It may be just you alone there though since Kei did mention to me in our last correspondence that he may not be able to make it if he gets sent outfield on a mission since duty calls and all that." Nodding a few times, he smiled at her, his ears flicking nervously as he stretched out one of his hands to try to pat her on the head. An affectionate gesture that he never really grew out of despite the years that had passed. "Just a small and simple affair will do really. You know me and my immense dislike for extravagance and crowds..."

"Well I wouldn't say that. I mean I am glad to be out, however, I do use a fair amount of what I learned. I have to for the shop and back when I was still head of the farm." She rubbed her arm lightly before she leaned back against the counter. "You learn the info and don't really know you use it, until you have." She shrugged some. "But I think it also depends on what you plan on doing. My tutor was the reason I learned as much magic as I have. I was really stunted you know that. Without the school and him... All I would have would be the voices." She gave him a sweet smile. Because her parents died when she was still on the younger side she didn't get a chance to learn to much about the magic that she carried in her.

Silly girl? She glowered at him for a moment, it seemed like it might just be the two of them? She could make his favorite dish a meat hot pot, that meant she'd have to go to Lumena for some of the ingredients. They didn't grow in Clarus Arbor, but that was okay. She needed to get more of that wood for the shop and for herself.

"I know... But it's still a big deal. It'll be a shame that Kei can't be there." The young witch frowned. In the time that she had known Kei, he was pleasant with her even though she had been rather annoying in short time she was there. He was mysterious and that meant she was curious. Then one day a few months later, Lea was there.

"Okay, I'll take care of everything then." She grinned at him. Cedar was pretty good at playing house and doing things a 'stay at home mom' would do. Maybe it was because she was trying to over compensate for the lack of well, knowing any of it. Her mom had started to teach her to cook, so now she took lessons and did things on her own. Her dad tried to teach her crafts and how to work hard... She wanted to make sure she made them proud.

"I remember those times. You've been through a lot and matured as a result of those experiences." There was an unreadable expression on Lea's face at the evoked memories the moment they were brought up in the conversation. That was a very bad time in Cedar's life really with everything shot to hell overnight when she lost her parents and a large part of the farm to a huge fire a few months after he was left in Kei's care. It had understandably taken quite a bit of time for her to pick up the remaining pieces of her life again and being one of those who bore witness to it all, he had sworn to himself that he would never ever let her go through something similar again.

"But I suppose that you do have a point there since the professors at the academy do have a large part to play in helping me harness the nature of my magic." Willing the bad memories back to the deepest recesses of his mind whence they came from, he shrugged slightly then tossed an appreciative smile Cedar's way for going to the extent of closing the shop just so that she could celebrate his graduation with him. "It's not that big of a deal really but thank you." He might not think much of the school event but that didn't mean that he was going to make light of her efforts in putting together what she had in mind for him. He would be good with just about anything really. "So... anything new going on with the shop and your life in general?"

Not that big of a deal. Cedar had to keep herself from rolling her eyes. She exhaled and gave him a shrug. "The days outside of the Academy aren't all that busy." Which had become even more true once she had passed the farm itself onto the workers. The shop was pretty easy to run. Or well, it was when Lea was around to help with stocking. But it was manageable for her to do alone.

"I've been considering a change of pace." She scratched at her cheek. "I might take a look into the Cerebus Knights. Maybe I can see more of the world through them." She had some options open to her. At first she thought maybe going to work at the Academy but now that she's out and her life as settled as it has... The idea of being a teacher just wasn't there anymore. She wanted to see more of the world and challenge herself if possible. Emrys' had taught her that there were great things out there to see...

"But I would have to find a position there that wouldn't have me on the front lines." She laughed. Cedar would never really cut it as an offensive fighter. Least not in anything like a real battle. Something sudden and less strategic, maybe she'd do okay. But she liked the defensive role. She and Lea had been together for so long they were a great team...
