It all started with a simple ad that appeared on the various faculty noticeboards in Destiny City University as well as the campus news bulletin. An appeal from an art student for volunteers who would be willing to pose for his traditional media assignments. The reward: the finished portrait itself once the professor was done grading it. Qiuyue had to admit that she was intrigued of course. It wasn't like anything that she had done before plus it would give her something to do now that she knew that her classes weren't due to start till another fortnight or month even. Which she really didn't mind at all since she needed some time to get herself settled down at her new place anyway.
She had sent a text expressing her interest to Mathias, to which his rather prompt reply seemed innocuous enough with a suggestion that they meet at a place of her choosing to discuss the details. A cafeteria located a few blocks from the university itself was where she had picked in the end. Somewhere public, yet at the same time offered some privacy for the discussion that they were about to have.
Slipping into the booth at one end of the shop, she placed an order for a cup of cappuccino for herself, pulled out her phone to send him a text with her current location then simply waited. She had arrived 10 minutes before their stipulated meeting time anyway.
Text Hi Mathias! I happened to arrive a little early so I hope that it's alright with you that I head on in first. I'm in the booth on the far end. Do you need me to order anything for you by the way? =)

Mathias was almost walking in the door when he got her text stating she was already there in the booth at the far end. Punctual - good, he liked that in people. It seemed to be a trait people lacked these days, most often than not showing up late without the courtesy to at least call and let you know they were running behind, if they showed up at all. Pulling the door open, he spotted the booth and decided to save himself the time of trying to text her again and walked right over, sitting down across from her and placing his elbows on the table so that he could steeple his hands in front himself. "Hello Qiuyue," he said lowering one hand toward her in the offer of a handshake. "I'm Mathias, it's a pleasure to finally put a face and body to the name."His eyes moved over what he could see of her sitting at the booth, looking at how she held herself and other small things - like how the light played on her skin from the window. With a small nod he chuckled. "Yes, you'll work quite nicely for a nice sitting portrait piece, though a booth is less your thing, you'd look better in an armchair."His other hand moved to the table to drum against it for a moment. "Now I guess we get down to business. Are you okay with the terms as I set them up in the ad? You'll get the portrait once its done being graded, as i plan on rehashing my portfolio again next year. What you want to wear is entirely up to you, my goal is for you to be comfortable during this exercise." He smiled at her and rested his head on a hand. "Like I said in the add, I don't have a lot in the way in cash on hand, thus why you get to keep the portrait - you can keep it or sell it if you want." He chuckled. "Not sure how much you'd get for it - since I'm not a well known artist, but it should look nice on a wall."

Qiuyue was taking a sip from her cappuccino when Mathias helped himself to the seat across from hers, setting her cup back onto the table before taking hold of his proffered hand, a friendly smile on her face while she used her other hand to slide the menu over to him. "Hey. Were you here already? Do you want a drink? Something to eat perhaps?"
She couldn't agree anymore with the opening statement that followed his greeting really. It was indeed nice to finally know just who exactly she had been texting about the ad. He looked and sounded decent enough for her to reaffirm her decision to give this a shot without worrying too much about there being a possible dubious reason behind this, nodding a few times as she gave him the answer to his question.
"Yes I am. It all sounds pretty fair to me really plus the walls of my apartment could probably use a portrait or two." Leaning back a little so that she could cross her legs comfortably beneath the table, she kept her gaze on him and smiled, lifting her hand slightly to run her index finger along the handle of the cup that held her coffee. "A few questions if I may? How long do these sessions last usually and are they supposed to be completed at one shot? Is this something that all Art students are required to do?"

Mathias nodded his head then looked over the menu. "I'll just snag a black coffee before I go," he said, not wanting this to be the center of their conversation. As she asked her questions, he leaned back and smiled. "Well yeah - we're all required to have a portfolio, mine just lacks traditional pieces - portraits and landscapes and stuff, so most of my professors are getting fussy," he wasn't a big fan of the "norm" in art. "The sessions can last as long or as short as you want, but the minimum is an hour - if I can get you in longer it will mean less sessions. It really depends on how long you think you can sit still."

Reaching for her cup, Qiuyue brought it to her lips, sipping slowly on her coffee as she mulled over Mathias' words. "A portfolio. Seems like a lot of work to put one together." She remarked loosely when she set the almost emptied cup back down, inwardly glad that she wasn't going for an Arts major lest she had to face a similar situation later on during the course of her studies. As far as she was aware, there wasn't any equivalent of a portfolio for Music majors.
"That works for me since you did say that it won't involve any acrobatic posing plus I have all the time in the world at the moment till my own classes start in a fortnight or so." She informed him with a smile as she finished what remained of her cappuccino. "How soon do you want to start?"

Mathias smiled and nodded his head slightly. "It can be at times. Sometimes it's a blast - others... Not so much." Chuckling as he watched her sip, then finish her cappuccino. "As far as starting - whenever you are ready to start. In fact, if you'd like, we could go get started now if you wanted. At least the first sketch..." He waved a hand. "Or we could schedule something if you have other plans..."

"Oh... now? You mean like for real?" Qiuyue blinked a few times, a genuinely surprised look on her face as she set the cup down a little too hard on the table with a loud clang before blushing faintly and looking apologetically at the turned heads when she realized belatedly that she probably shouldn't have done that.
Waving her hand at the waitress so that she could fetch her the bill, she next turned to give Mathias her full attention, a small smile on her face as she nodded and gave her answer to his proposal. "If it is indeed alright with you, I'd like to give it a go." It wasn't as if she had something concrete planned later in the day so it was all fine and dandy really.

Mathias nodded and stood up slowly, placing his hands on the table. "Alright, that works for me." He chuckles and looks toward the door. "Do you want to follow me to the studio, or would you like a ride?"He didn't care either way. But it would probably be easier if he drove her to the studio himself and then drove her back to wherever her car was parked. That was if she even had a car. For all he knew she took the bus or just walked.

Indeed it was as Mathias had suspected - that Qiuyue had walked to the cafeteria given its proximity to her current place of residence which was part of the reason as to why she had chosen it for their meeting today. With the bill settled, she replaced her wallet in her bag, slinging it over her shoulder as she stood and smoothed out the creases in her skirt before indicating to the young male that she was good to go.
"A... ride? You mean you drove here?" The notion of driving to get herself from one place to another on DCU campus was still an entirely foreign concept to her if the genuinely surprised look on her face at the posed question wasn't obvious enough though she followed her questions shortly with another more relevant one with regards to getting to their intended destination. "Is the studio really that far?" She wasn't opposed to getting a ride from him really. Whichever worked better overall in the grand scheme of things all things considered.

Mathias chuckled and forced himself to think. This girl was lucky she was cute - she was making him actually make a half-hearted attempt at Trig. It took him a minute, but he finally said. "It's probably about a half hour walk as the crow flies. It's on the other side of the campus in the arts section. I'll freely admit that I'm lazy and drive everywhere, but if you want to walk we can."Then he could observe how she moved and the way she walked and other nifty things that would help him decide how to pose her properly. "But it's your call."

"I suppose that it'll make more sense for me to take up your offer instead of walking." Qiuyue smiled as she gave her response, not at all fancying walking that long a distance with the heels she had come to the meeting in.
"Save you from having to make another trip back here just to pick up your car." She quipped, figuring that it would be a win-win situation for both Mathias and herself if they went with that particular arrangement. In any case, it would take care of the journey there for certain. She would just have to figure her way back when the session was over thereafter.

"That settles it then," Mathias said with a chuckle and a small nod. "Well whenever you're ready we can head over to my studio and you can take a look at what we have going on there."He wasn't in a particular hurry by any means - but he could appreciate someone who wanted to get this done and over with quickly.

Picking up the napkin, Qiuyue gingerly dabbed at her lips and nodded. "I'm good to go."
She wasn't really expecting to have this done in one sitting but it would work out all the better if they managed to get this done before she started going to classes in the next month or so. She moved to get up from her seat then waited for Mathias to do likewise and lead the way.

Mathias rose from his seat slowly with a smile and a nod, directing her out toward the parking lot as he slowly made his way out. His car wasn't by any means flashy or new, but it did the job and had served him well over the years. He opened the door to the passenger side, trying to be as polite as possible as he made his way to the drivers side to get the car started so they could get the hell out of dodge.
