carhop cavalier Text to Lex: Report to library C. There's something we need to discuss. ol-j-man Text to Stormy: Report to library C. I'd like to introduce you to your co-worker and discuss the parameters of the agreement. Two very stiff texts were sent to the two trainees from a single cell phone in a matter of moments. The owner of the cell phone then set the phone down, completely ignoring any texts that were sent in response.
Instead of faithfully waiting for the trainees, she went back to thumbing through the small stack of books she'd created around herself. One pile was designated for language dictionaries. Another was for Arabian texts, particularly focusing on the climate in the areas of study. Polar opposite to that, she had a book on himalayan studies, next to that one on the Norse language for a certain trainee.
Ami, on the other hand, was heavily invested in her studies. A pen sat in her hair even though there was a second one that she was scrawling with in her hand. Notebooks were filled with notes, comparisons between texts and orderly tables of numbers. Neat cursive notes poured forth into wee hours of the night. By now she had heavy bags under her eyes as she'd forgotten to go home, being too caught up in her work. With the way she was squinting she was beginning to think she might need glasses.

Despite going unanswered and unread, Ami received several messages.
Quote: Text to AmiSo like right now report? Quote: Text to AmiThat was a dumb question still sleepy ok coming. Should I bring anything? Quote: Text to AmiWait I get it. Being present is a present. You should tell me when your birthday is anyway. Or at least if you like coffee or tea better. Stormy, remembering how cross the hunter had looked when she arrived late to the last mission, made sure she got to the library in minutes. A hasty makeover from coming out of bed resulted resulted in a messy bun tied by a pink ribbon, a pastel blue tank top and white shorts, Eeyore slippers, and a yawn. As ever, under her arm was a journal with a pen locked in place by a leather loop. She shuffled over to Ami and presented herself with a salute.
"Cap'n," the trainee greeted softly, blinking at the assorted notes and books surrounding Ami. "Oooo...Reminds me of AP English."

"Sit there," Ami ordered, gesturing to another chair at the table without looking up from her books. The phone sat behind her, texts poor Stormy had sent definitely weren't answered.
If there was a purpose to Stormy being here, it wasn't stated. Ami just kept writing.

Lex figured that with Ami, he had a little bit of leniency. Enough to at least brush his teeth, trim his stubble down, and get dressed. He'd become good at doing the routine quickly, and not having to wait for the communal showers made it quicker. He showed up well groomed, and a minute late. He smiled at the woman, knowing she'd try to scold him at least.
"Oh...new recruit?" He asked, turning to Stormy. A Mist? Hmm...so Ami had actually reached out of her little Life and Moon circle. Good job Ami.

"You're late," she responded. Unfortunately for Lex, absolutely no sleep garnered no leniency whatsoever. All he got was the flick of a page as she continued to write.
When he finally joined them, a sigh left her and she finally looked up from her notes. She gestured that he sit, like the energetic Stormy, then folded her hands. The pen went into her hair right next to the first one. "Right. Stormy, Lex, Lex, Stormy."
She gave a pause to let them soak in the names, then continued. "Basically I'm recruiting you to help in the library for my specialization. You have the option to say no, of course." The bored look on her face clearly indicated that Ami wouldn't care one way or another, but there was something amused in the sparkle of her eye. "It's essentially a quantum ******** of reading, writing and translating. You'll be in charge of most Spanish documents, obviously, and ... overseeing dear Madeline." She gave a warning look. "You are not her superior, you're merely keeping her on track." Was the phrasing of that a bit protective?
Ami then gestured to Lex and said, "He's already been helping me for the majority of the European texts. I cover most of the Asian, Pacific Islands, Australian Aboriginal, American, Atlantian, Artic, Middle Eastern-" She sighed, cutting more shortly to the point. "Everything that you don't."
"In terms of the codex, you'll be allowed access with my permission." She rolled her hands. "Yada, yada. Free access to all of the libraries as long as you're doing work. Also you'll be doing ... minor office work." AKA getting Ami her tea when she felt too cross to get it herself. "Any questions?" Her tone implied that there really shouldn't be any questions.

Lex just sat and smiled, keeping any witty remarks to himself. He knew she was tired, and wouldn't give her any sass today. Just a very sly look and a raise of his hand.
"So...what does Stormy get out of this?" He already knew his reward.

Inwardly Stormy was pumping a fist because for once she wasn't the late one. But she perked as the third hunter to their super trio was introduced, wide-eyed and sitting up straight and bobbing her head to his question. "Hmm . . . Lexxxx Luthorrrr," she hummed to herself thoughtfully, her variant of most people's "um" to stall for time while the brain mulled over something. The stubble was throwing her off, but he reminded her awfully of someone . . . a character . . .
It was a good thing she was sitting, though, for the trainee could hide the slight flush to her cheeks at how handsome he was by propping her head up on both hands. She did, however, shift her slippers idly.
More "mmm"-ing occured as Ami explained what they were there for. Be around a lot of books for long periods of time, probably losing sleep and getting injected with caffeine? And helping Madeline and being sort of in charge but not really but sort of kinda anyway? Oooo~ She cooed softly at how much the pair had taken on already, clearly awed. "It's super duper English AP with a foreign language credit," Stormy spelled out for herself, a small smile growing. "I wouldn't mind if it helps you guys, Cap'n! Even the office work stuff." She had helped with the Codex finding, so it would be silly to turn the offer down when she felt like a useless lump of trainee on a normal basis.
Unfortunately, tone wasn't enough to stop Stormy from unleashing a torrent of (somewhat obvious) questions.
"So we're, like, translating everything about everything, or are we looking for stuff like artifacts or something on horsemen specifically? Has all of this been lying around here for years? What's your specialization again? Are we sticking everything in the computer, or the codex, or the library shelves, or all three?" She paused, then leaned forward with a more hopeful look. "Does that mean we're all study buddies?"

"Absolutely nothing but extra work on top of her mist duties," Ami said in deadpan tone, absolutely serious. "But that's what trainees are for." An oddly bemused smile crossed her lips. Then Stormy opened her mouth.
Ami was already regretting her decision.
Why.
Why this.
"Stormy. Considering you've already accepted, we're going to lay down a rule. If I've had less than 2 hours of sleep, you need to control your goddamned mouth. Think CAREFULLY about each question you pose" She was already rubbing her temples. Too tired for this man.
< Be nice! You're the one asking for help! >
She sighed a bit melodramatically. Junpei was right- she was in need at the moment. "My specialization is the translation of written text to a digital form that is accessible by all. It keeps the books safe. I have no intention to stick anything anywhere, thank you. We're typing books into a standardized English digital form." In her mind she was cursing Stormy because how could she not wrap this around her thick skull. "The codex was merely an offshoot project and is my own personal undertaking. I couldn't tell you what we're doing with it yet because even I have no explored it's contents."
Just to spite the poor trainee, Ami added a flat, "And no. We are not buddies."

Ahhhhhh he asked about her ahhhhh ahhhhhh. Stormy took a deep breath once Lex sat down to calm herself, knowing she probably should have said hi at least by now but it was suddenly hard to talk to him now that there wasn't a table in the way but sempai yay.
More duties would have sounded awful to some, but the extra responsibilities made her feel more accomplished somehow--that being trusted with even minor jobs meant she was beginning to really integrate into Deus. Stormy did wince, however, when she finally noticed that Ami looked tired; she was so used to the sight herself that she hadn't taken it into real consideration. "Sorry, Cap'n." And the wince turned into a full on crestfallen look when the hunter stated they weren't friends. Had she been doing it wrong . . . ?
She opened her mouth to ask if Ami wanted her to look at the codex for her, then pressed her lips back together. Personal project probably meant no touchy.
< < You are not here to make friends. > >
Inwardly whining, Stormy bobbed her head in understanding now that her questions were answered. "Very important stuff," she noted. "I, um . . . I guess my next question is if you want or need something right now? Like a pillow, or a blanket, or a drink? Or, um, are massages your thing? Or back scratches?" Her attempt to not ask so many questions got overwhelmed by her attempt to patch things up.

Ami was cranky today. A small smile spread across Lex's features, his hand going to Stormy's shoulders in a sympathetic pat. He remembered the days of Ami barking at him, implying that as a trainee he was useful only for menial grunt work. Hell, he still was a trainee - just with a fancier coat. "She'll be fine, she just needs a bit of shut eye." He whispered to the mist, winking. "And I'll be your buddy."He gave her shoulder a little squeeze, before returning his gaze to Ami.
"So I'm assuming you've already picked out some more books for us to translate?" He asked, eyeing the obvious stack of books that surrounded the woman. Apparently, if she had to suffer, so did they. At least Stormy got to deal with Madeline. "I'll handle the Norwegian today, I think."

Ami just glared at Lex. "I'm sitting right here." As in she could hear you calling her cranky. And saying she needed sleep. She could hear you.
To Stormy's journey inward Ami had absolutely no sympathies. Maybe in a better light she would've apologized, but not today. Poor Stormy got the short end of the stick. "Nothing is ever required, my dear." She steepled her fingers and gave Stormy a look. "There is only what you wish to put forth."
To Lex's second question, her gaze moved away from the table. "Yours, yes." Though Lex thought one of the stacks on the table was his, they were all Ami's. She pointed to the modest pile of three books she'd left for him. "Stormy's, no. Would you like to take her to the Spanish section?"

His hand.
His hand.
His hand was right there oh God oh God on her shoulder.
And he wanted to be buddies sldfkjlzkhtjs -
Stormy barely caught what Ami said, all the more glad at least parts of her face were hidden. The whisper and the wink Lex gave her, oh man--it was like she was in a romance novel . . . She bobbed her head at Ami's answers without really noticing what they actually meant, suddenly coy. All she could manage was a squeaky, "Yes'm." Spanish it was.
Alone. With Lex. In the library. With the screwdriver.
Fffffffffff.
Stormy was so not ready that raw meat looked cooked in comparison. She bit the inside of her lip as she pushed her chair back and picked up her journal, gripping the binding like it was a life jacket. She glanced at the male hunter's feet before shuffling away from the table, looking ready to either melt into the ground or stay as still as a statue for the rest of the day. "Ready when you are, Mr. Lex."
Body is so not ready.

Three books? Really, that was it? He gave a small inward sigh, knowing that he'd be done by bedtime and she would still be up, and more than likely passed out on the couch when he woke up. That woman never took good care of herself...
Picking up the books and putting a hand to the space between Stormy's shoulder blades, Lex gently guided them away from the ticking time bomb of Ami and into the Spanish section. A quick text was shot off to Marcus about dropping off a certain book by Ami's house at his earliest convenience, and the Mist had the man's full attention. "Really though, nice to meet you Stormy. I guess you've either got some Spanish roots, or you aced Spanish in highschool?" Lex had taken a bit of Spanish before he graduated, enough to earn him the necessary credits. "Either way, it's good to have you on the team." He smiled, patting her on the back. She'd probably be needing some encouragement, especially with Ami as her boss.Text to Ami Be nice, she just wants to help.
