Melvin set up his work station, set his binder down, and checked his appointment list. Being prompt and official was best in these situations, and making a fresh pot of good coffee, he sent the text out. Quote: Text to: Lex Official Artifact Testing at 3pm in Life Lab 3b. Receiving the text, Lex saved the time and had the phone alert him ten minutes before the appointed meeting time. He finished up his practice at the shooting range, still getting used to Regal's longer barrel. It certainly elped him achieve a longer distance shot, but he had to relearn the balance and even the aim. He'd been getting better, though.
Arriving a little before three, Lex knocked on the nearest wall to let Melvin know he was there. "Hey, it's Lex." He stated, smiling lightly. They may have had a bit of a tiff during the council investigation, but Lex was over it.

"Hello, Lex." Melvin said, shutting another binder and setting it aside as he rose up to meet him. "Glad you could come. I know people get a bit apprehensive showing up in the labs whenever the word 'test' is mentioned." He gestured for him to sit.
"Did you bring your artifact?"

"We've done our 'test' dues, I think." Lex smiled, nodding as he was offered a seat. A small click sounded as he withdrew the small hunting knife from the holster on his arm, setting it in front of them.
"The Arrowhead of Artemis - made into something more suited to myself." He pushed it towards the other Lifer, blade facing the taller man. Knife etiquette and all. "Ami helped me convert it - it's a little crude, but it does it's job."

Melvin stood up, looking but not touching the item. He wrote the name down of the item in question, and smiled. "Good. What was it before and which area did you find it?"
He turned his head before raising his tablet and taking a few pictures as he started to write the information for the item.
"Not as flashy as most. I think most hunters go for functional and portable about all else when converting their artifacts."

"It was just an arrowhead, with a moon carved into it." Lex stated, recalling the artifact. It had seemed like nothing, just a simple little piece of stone. Then it cut him, and he was shining brighter than a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. "I found it at the Altar of the Gods; Nevada was with me. She has the Laurels of Demeter, if I recall."
A small smile passed his lips when Melvin mentioned the inconspicuousness of the item. "I didn't want something that wasn't practical - and it needed to be suited for my fighting style. I thought about turning it into a bayonet, but that would look odd on a pistol." And as a marksman, a bayonet was only necessary if someone got to close - but a bullet in the head had just as much stopping power. The knife was easy to access and put away, and small enough that he could use it while shooting at a horseman. "Have their been flashy conversion?"

"Most people suit what needs they have and portability. A bit of a sense of style, and also the restrictions the runic department has to make it work on the island. It all suits person taste. The flashiest one I've seen is a massive earring Rep owns. I only made mine a handkerchief because I don't like wearing sashes." He wore a belt and that was enough.
"Have you used this artifact often? Have you noticed a limit of time with it?"

"I've used it two or three times; there's never been too much of a need for it. I think it lasts about one hit - well, it protects from one hit, I mean. The light it creates from cutting someone seems to absorb FEAR and keep it off the intended victim." Lex rambled off, a little unsure of how exactly to explain what the Arrowhead did. It was like a buffer, and sometimes it was stronger than others. "Should I demonstrate what I mean? I feel like I'm not explaining all that well."

"That sounds very interesting. I'd love a demonstration. So it absorbs fear from an attack on your person? How does your weapon react? Does it feel or sense anything? Do you experience any negative side effects after?" Melvin was just a bundle of questions as he reached to the red pen behind his ear and summoned the plasma gun into his hands.

Eyes widening at Melvin's gesture, Lex gave a half grin and a matching nervous laugh. He'd only had another gun pulled on him once, and thankfully the shooter was easy to talk down. This wouldn't be violent though, right? Just a test. Right, just a test.
Summoning Regal and twirling the pistol a little, Lex cocked his head in thought of Melvin's questions. "My weapon doesn't really react too much, actually. I've always used it on someone else, so I wouldn't know how he feels. There don't seem to be any side effects, save for the silver light that sticks around for a bit." He shrugged, unsheathing the knife.
"Tell me when you're ready to fire."

Melvin held his weapon at the ready with a smile that said he was not in the least bit nervous from being hit. He already knew that one hit would not harm him, and from what he heard the weapon could do, it wouldn't harm his shield greatly or cause any strange side effects.
"I'm ready when you are. Just tell me what I have to do or attack. I'm prepared."

Giving the area behind him a quick glance out of slight nerves and as to avoid anyone seeing a weapon being used indoors, Lex gave a quick nod to Melvin, signalling for the other man to fire. While doing so, the taller Intermediate had slit his palm open with the knife; the silver light indicative of the artifact's use glowing as a beacon to everyone around.
He braced, ready to take the weakened hit. Regal snorted.Moon Kitsune Sorry this took forever x_x

The blast hit square in Lex's chest, but he hardly felt it. A flare of silver shot off from the point of contact, and Regal gave a small gasp of surprise.
< I hardy felt that, whelp. Odd. >
"Well... that was a weird sensation. I saw it hit me, but it felt like less than it should have. My weapon was shocked too."

Pointing his gun up, he looked at the spot he hit and stroked his chin. "That's very interesting. It might be adding fear or even creating a thicker barrier. It either absorbs or deflects. If that could be used on our already placed runics, it could be very helpful." He was amazed by how many things artifacts could do, and he turned, setting the gun on the table, to write his observations down.
"Do you think could shoot you again and see if it is still in effect?"
