Melvin had not talked to Jake often, but when he did, his mood quickly soured. Jake, to him, was a young punk. Saliva laughed at that considering Melvin's own age, but he brushed her aside. He needed his research notes, and Jake had an artifact that could be vital to his project. Everything had to be documented, and he didn't want to present his findings and explain why he skipped anyone.
So, feeling that curt and official was his best bet, he sent a text. Quote: Text to: Jake Official Artifact Testing in 3b. Arrive by 2pm and remember to bring your artifact.

Jake had just finished lunch and was about to resume his training, when he received the text.
Pulling out his phone, he scanned it with a frown. Artifact testing? He didn't recognize the number, and wondered if it was one of the higher ups. Couldn't be Caelius, because he already had his number, but, wait... research? If he remembered clearly, Life was in charge of research... so... the Life Division head? He had no idea who it was.
He tensed as he remembered Sherry was... also a life hunter, and... she had an artifact too. Would she... be there?
I guess... not. Letting out a huff, he patted his sash, glad that he never left the artifact behind, and proceeded to make his way towards the life labs.

Melvin was waiting in his lab, being the only person it in letting him notice when the door opened. It was quiet aside from the occasional roars and shrieks from the minipets in their tanks and the rustle of papers as Melvin works through a few papers.
When he heard the door open, he looked up to see Jake enter. "Hello Jake." He checked the time. "You're prompt. Thank you for that. Did you bring your artifact?"

This was... the minipet labs? Oh hell no. He glared at the creatures, instantly regretting coming here in the first place, but the glare turned into a scowl when he saw the life trainee.
"Four-eyes? What are you doing here?"

"My name is Melvin, Jake. I'm a Lifer so I work here." He turned to show his jacket in case Jake missed the big tree symbol. "I called you here for your artifact testing since I lead the project. Did you bring your artifact like I asked?"

"...Right." Ignoring the hunter, he looked around at the minipet cages. "So what, is it your job to clean up after minipets? Sounds like the kind of job for you." He didn't listen to the lifer. At all.

Melvin knew this was going to be like pulling teeth, and he steeled himself for a very long session.
"The trainees take care of minipet duties like that. These are the minipets used for the techs who work in this lab. Some are mine. Some are for the other Lifers who work in this lab in the morning and late at night. It's a shared space due to our limited resources."
He gritted his teeth. "Set your artifact on the table so I can start."

He turned to stare at the life trainee, feigning a look of shock. "You keep pets? That's surprising, blondie." Though he pretended not to listen, he had heard what Melvin had said, and arched an eyebrow at him. "How come you're leading a project? I thought that was only for full hunters." He reluctantly pulled the dagger from his sash, and set it on the table. "Break it, and I'll kill you."-MoonKitsune OOPS SORRY GAIA DIDN'T NOTIFY ME lsdjflksdf

"I don't keep them as pets. They're test subjects. Minipets is just a name." He cleared up, not regarding any of the minipets he owned as personal pets he would cry over if they expired aside from research and work lost.
Rising up, he regarded the dagger. "I'm leading a project because I proposed the idea and the leads of Life thought it had value and it became approved. I don't need to be a full hunter to dedicate my time and energy to working on a project."
He raised his tablet and started taking pictures. "What was your dagger before you received it? Have you tested it out yet?"

He huffed, crossing his arms. "Fair enough." He watched Melvin curiously, wondering what kind of "testing" he was planning on doing. "Some kind of tusk or something. It had these animated battle graphics on it or something. Kept changing. Mostly Halloween, though I think there were images of some hunters or horsemen, I'm not too sure." It had been so long ago, he couldn't even remember when he had gotten it. Though when Melvin mentioned testing it out, he broke out into a huge grin. "Yah, plenty of times. Want a demonstration?"

"I wish you had that recorded. It could have given more insight on some documented case of history." He waved it off. "Too late now." Thanks to Jake rushing to get his artifact runiced and working. He couldn't blame him too much on that.
"Before you demonstrate, can you tell me what it does so that I am a bit more prepared and don't miss out on what I'm seeing? I want to be able to document your artifact properly so that I don't have to keep having you come in?"

He only shrugged. "It's like a mini portable television to the gore network. Nothing special. I doubt you'd be able to recognize anything anyways." Walking over to the table, he picked it up, flipping it in his hands. "Showing you is easier. You can see for yourself what it does. I believe in learning by example." He flashed his teeth at him. "Or are you too scared?"

"You haven't seen what they pull out of people in the Infirmary, have you? I think I'll be fine with whatever is on the TV." He moved over and, tablet poised in case he was able to record, nodded his head for Jake to start.

Jake only arched an eyebrow at Melvin. "You might want to have your weapon summoned for this. I'd hate to break precious technology." He summoned his own weapons.

Melvin looked alarmed. "Break precious technology? I don't own this stuff. Maybe we should go outside?" He was worried that if anything, and he meant ANYTHING, was broken, the other techs would murder him alive or worse! They would use their untested projects on him.
Reaching to the red pen behind his ear, Melvin summoned Saliva, the worm-like gun in his hands.
