Sun high in the sky, most of his family snoozing away Koray found himself well rested even after a full night spending time with his siblings and parents. The sun was setting when he'd fallen where he was, and he'd woken with it beaming it's rays onto his neck. Good thing the stallion had always survived just fine with little rest, in fact his body seemed to repel the in active situation that was relaxing or just plain doing nothing. Koray always had to be doing something, even if it was just running in circles on the spot, as he'd matured he'd started channelling that energy into more productive things.
Like today he woke up and knew exactly what he wanted to do, he wanted to find Ialu and he wanted to learn everything he could about this guardian business. He wanted to keep his friends, family and herd safe from baddies, and it gave him something to do when there weren't foals to get distracted playing with. So in the time it took for him to think all this he'd gotten to his feet, shook out his mane, and headed off towards the boarders of the herd territory. If he had to circle the entire thing he would, he might need to rest before finishing the task but his mind was set. Realistically he knew the general area he'd met the bright stallion last time and made for there, maybe he patrolled a certain portion at a time? Really he had no idea and was just going with what his mind and body told him, another day, another adventure!

Wings outstretched to get the blood flowing through them Ialu kept on his task. As a guardian it was his job to protect the herd, it's laws, traditions, members, and even any coming into it's borders in peace. Proud of his position, he took it quite seriously. Today he had assigned himself to patrolling the eastern border, and as the day wore on he would begin to move closer to the herd. There usually wasn't very much trouble during the day, hardly any really, as many of his herd seemed to prefer to sleep the day away and revel in the night.
Which, considering how they worshiped Mother Moon seemed natural. Someone had to be awake during the day though, things didn't always remain peaceful. Still, it was a bit of an isolating position, being a day guardian. There were still those awake in the day, but they rarely came to the borders. There were a few times where he would seethe hunters and gatherers cross for food to bring back to the herd, but they were sometimes too busy to chat. Ah well, such was life. He'd learned to live with it, he did most of his socializing when he was off patrol anyways. Ialu did wonder if a certain young stallion would show up, though. Curious Koray, full of energy since he was a foal and with an interest in being a guardian. He was a pleasant fellow and good company, Ialu enjoyed the younger blood(if only slightly younger).

There were so many interesting colours and shapes as he passed by and it took a good mental push to keep him going past them. The young stallion was known for his energetic and tendency towards having his attention wander but not today. He had an adventure to embark on! What kind of adventure would it be if he lost interest to the newly sprouting blooms of the season, it didn't help he'd been born during the winter time. All this foliage was new to him, not many plants thrived through the colder months but he did promise himself that he'd check them out another day, when he didn't have a specific purpose in mind.
The act would probably make most of his relatives proud of him, sticking to a decision but non of them where around to see. If he hadn't been quite as simple as he was he'd probably stumble to a conclusion that perhaps there were a member or two of his herd that wouldn't be confident in his ability to reach a title as Guardian. Koray had however made up his mind and he was really trying and after a good passed wander he spotted the bright pelt of Ialu and knew he'd made the right choices along the way. "Hey Ialu!" He was even proud he remembered the others name, having heard it for the first time during an encounter with his brother Noir. Trotting over without hesitation it looked like the star covered male was getting company whether he liked it or not "Hows the patrol going?"

Out of the quiet came another's voice. Ialu stopped, the sound of the voice being familiar. He hadn't heard it all that long ago, albeit it was for a short amount of time. The guardian turned to see the bright red and orange wings and lilac pelt of Koray, the young stallion that was asking him questions about patrolling and being a guardian. The lyra/arcturai hybrid gave a friendly smile as the other approached, glad to have some company finally. "HI there Koray. I should have expected you'd show up sooner or later." Ialu folded his wings neatly against his sides. "It's going as well as usual. No disturbance, no signs of anything that might be harmful to the herd and no sign of anyone coming in to meet with a member. How's your day been going?"

Coming level with the slightly older stallion he started bounding around, looking here and there as if trying to seriously assess his surroundings but not very well. Looking at Ialu he decided it would be best to focus on him so not to get distracted again "I just woke up! Well I woke up and I came looking" He smiled, big and wide he sure was a happy little fellow, like he'd never experienced any hardship which was true. "Cool! I was hoping, can I join you today? Show me the ropes I'd like that lots... pleaaaaaase!" He beamed at the male and it took everything in his power not to bounce on the spot, he knew the job was important didn't want to distract the guardian but if he could get real experience maybe he could even be useful!

Just woke up? Not surprising, the boy was brimming with energy. It was a bit surprising though that he had just woken up and not just stayed up all night. He gave Koray a small grin of amusement. "Sure you can. So you're interested in becoming a guardian, then?" Ialu asked, continuing his patrol at a steady pace. "It might not seem like a lot of hard work but that's because it's not very physical most of the time. The challenge here is not getting bored, honestly. Paying close attention."
Ialu gave a cursory glance at a bush up ahead that was a few feet from where the lyra knew the border to be and nodded towards it. "For instance, that bush isn't really large enough to be able to hide an adult star, maybe a teenaged star could if they tried hard enough. But an alcor could very easily slip in, and it's close enough to the border that if you aren't careful or alert there wouldn't be any time for you to react to them if they attacked. Keeping your eyes and ears peeled at all time is important, and don't forget your sense of smell either."

Resisting the urge to bounce again he was ecstatic that he was allowed to tag long, and Ialu was actually taking him seriously! Well as far as Koray was aware he was and already teaching him things! There was no doubt the boy was excited and he half skipped alongside the guardian but making sure to slow himself down to the same pace. "Thanks! Sure am, I wanna protect my family and loved ones and all the innocents!" His smile never dropped as he recalled a conversation with an Elder he hadn't seen since.
"Should I investigate? I'll investigate!" He wanted to help in anyway and puffing out his chest trotted a little quicker over to the bush and gave it a big sniff... "Nothing out of the ordinary, herby!" He giggled and then fell silent for a few seconds listening to see if he could hear any rustle or just generally our of the ordinary "Sounds good, what now, do I poke it?" He motioned towards the bush with his hoof and awaited instruction.

One thing Ialu liked about the younger stallion was his want to protect. Sure it wasn't as glorious or prestigious as being a fighter might be but it was just as important. It was an admirable trait to want to protect and defend.
He watched as Koray ran up to the bush, asking what he should do and not waiting for an answer before doing it anyways. You may if you like. Now, there are many bushes just like this one all around the border. You could spend your time investigating every one and if you want and have time to you can if you like. We're not too worried about an ambush here so just a little care and alertness are called for, unless you believe there's reason to do more."
Ialu caught up to the young stallion and looked at the bush before looking ahead again. "Now, in a few yards there's the crest of a hill that is also just beyond our territory. Usually I walk up it and look down the other side to make doubly sure that there isn't anything happening that we should be worried about, like a gathering of unscrupulous looking stars."

Nodding briskly the younger male was hanging on the guardians every word really really trying to absorb every word he really wanted to learn this. This was his new game and even though he wasn't the stone serious kind of guy he really took this his own challenge, he would succeed no matter what! Koray being Koray however meant he was going to do it a fun way, and indeed enjoy himself when doing so, young eyes to take everything in and maybe even see it from a new perspective... who knew!
Still peering the bush over he tilted his head "What kinda smells should I sniff out for? What means bad and danger or... what is common, like what do you smells lots that isn't bad?" His young mind was racing and was no wonder he had so many questions to ask, he was trying to think steady but there was so much he wanted to learn.
"Ok!" Turning he waited for Ialu to lead to the next place this time making sure to be very calm, he didn't want to fall of any hills preferably. Though he couldn't help his curiosity "Did you ever have to do an ambush thing?" His wording would make it quite plain the young stallion didn't quite have a grasp on what an ambush was.... but it sounded big, responsible and exciting!

"Smells?" He had to think about that for a bit. The stallion knew what kind of things to look for almost instinctively by now, it didn't require a whole lot of thought. "I suppose anything that smells like something you haven't smelled before in the herd would be one thing. Flower smells are obviously okay. I don't really know how to tell you what a wolf smells like, it's something you would have to experience yourself. And that's a truth for a lot of smell, honestly."
"You could smell some of the wolves in the herd, but they would smell like our herd. Just things that are...out of place." Ialu chuckled at the ambush question. Koray definitely had some things to learn still, and Ialu was more than happy to teach him. "Not quite. An ambush is when someone in hiding attacks you; it's a surprise attack. As a guardian we do our best to discover ambushes before they happen; it would be the warriors that actually ambushed anyone. And no, I have not intercepted or preempted an ambush before."
