Xander walked into the lounge finally getting a break to eat a little lunch. It was a busy day, but when was it not in this city. He really wished sometimes that he was back in England in a residency program with more normality. He'd not seen or heard anything weird in his time there. He wouldn't run away though, he couldn't leave Lily and he was could do much more good where he was so, he sat with a slight sigh and opened his paper lunch bag.
"What a day," he huffed to himself, pulling an apple, a water and a chicken cesar wrap out of his bag. It was the same thing he had for several days now, but he couldn't actually cook very well and he didn't feel right hiring a cook to cook for just him, so he got by with easy things for him to make, or things he could by from a deli.
He lifted the apple to his mouth starring off into space, thinking about his patients even though he was suppose to be taking a break from work.

It was one of those really bad call days for Boaz. The kind that he hardly got any time to rest his feet, much lest sleep a wink, the entire night and still had another surgery, courtesy of the trauma activation that came from the Accident and Emergency five minutes before the official switchover time, to clear before he could call it a day and head home to crash in his bed.
The patient that was brought in was a young man about his age. Motorcyclist who was flung from his bike following a high speed collision with a car that was trying to beat the red light. Multiple fractures, lacerations and abrasions on top of a punctured lung and a probable ruptured spleen. It had been a nightmare trying to stabilize him enough to get him up to the operating theatre so that the various surgical teams could try to fix him up there. But by some miraculous intervention, they managed to pull that off in the end and he knew that he only had some time to rest up before he had to head to theatre himself.
After a quick trip to the loo to relieve himself and splash some water onto his face to freshen himself some, Boaz had grabbed a snack bar and a cup of coffee with extra sugar from the vending machine before heading to the Accident and Emergency staff lounge, hoping that it wouldn't be packed with people since he could really use some peace and quiet to himself now. The place was mostly deserted save for one lone figure, which worked for him so he crossed over to take one of the empty seats, ceruleans sliding over to look over the redhead. Male. Long red hair tied up in a loose ponytail. His eyes went wide a little when he saw the name tag on the other's white coat. "... Dr Xander Jacobs. Fancy seeing you here. How are you?"

Xander looked up quickly when the other entered and gave a small smile at the greeting he was given. "I'm just fine Dr. Crawford. A little sleep deprived, but that something we all expect." Being a doctor, was tiring, but he worked in the ER and he was a knight, so he got precious little sleep.
"How are you," he asked none of his usual awkwardness present. The pair had known each other for a while and were past the stage where Xander was awkward and Boaz had to prove he actually did want to talk to Xander. It was a little easier in that Xander had been a mentor to the younger Boaz, but still Xander was as awkward as they came socially sometimes.
He pulled the chair out that sat beside him and motioned for Boaz to take a seat, looking briefly at the clock. He had plently of time, to rest and eat, supposedly, but one never knew in the hospital. "Been as busy a day for you as it has for me?"

"Always. And the government wonders why birth rates are falling and we aren't making more babies in our spare time." Boaz quipped, cracking a joke at the same time with an amused expression on his face as he got up from his seat to go over and join Xander. "So you made it into Emergency Medicine? How're you finding it so far?"
This was turning out to be a really pleasant coincidence all in all. Sure, it wasn't hard to run into a couple of familiar faces up in the wards but running into his own mentor down at the Accident and Emergency staff lounge like this was certainly a first for him. It had been a good two, maybe three years since they last had a chance to sit down and have a chat like this after all.
"Been one of those really brutal long nights I'm afraid. Didn't get a chance to rest my feet, much lest sleep, plus a young man just came in through trauma activation 5 minutes before the call's supposed to end so I'm just sneaking in here for a brief reprieve before I got to head up to the OT." Pausing to yawn and then take a long sip from his coffee, he tilted his head to smile sheepishly at Xander. "... and breakfast. Yeah."

Xander expression went from smiling to totally confused at the joke, something Boaz could probably expect. The joke went a little over Shang head, because really who had time to think about making babies, though he figured maybe that was the point and nodded.
"It's been going well enough. You know I specialized in pediatrics, or did I not tell you that. Either way its going well, I've got much experience although of course I wish that wasn't entirely the case. You know one doesn't want to wish injuries and illness' on kids."
"Its been a long morning for me and it promised to be a long day. Been in since around 2, a few hours before my shift was even due to start and I just slipping in now to get an early lunch and a bit of alone time. The nurses are always making weird faces at me and pointing. It's unnerving." Yes that was Xander, never to good at handling the sort of attention the ladies showered him with or even good at realizing what all that attention even meant. He didn't actually care for it.
"Refresh my memory as to your specialization. I know during residency we have to do it all, and I'm just about done mine come Christmas (yeah I know I should be done) ... anyway so I know we still have to do everything so sometimes I forget what it is people are suppose to be doing?"

Boaz saw the change in Xander's facial expression and realized belatedly that he probably should have tried to phrase that particular joke better. "I don't think you've got the opportunity to mention that during our previous conversations but I figured that Paediatrics was something that you will likely go for eventually given your aptitude with the kids from what I've noticed." Making no further reference to his earlier joke or the confused look he had observed on Xander's face, he put in his own 2 cents on the matter in an attempt to inject some positivity into the redhead's choice of specialty. "Anyone with a heart won't but things happen, hence why people like you are needed to help those kids with their ailments and injuries."
"Two? As in 2 am in the morning? Isn't it almost time your shift ended?" Two am? Really? And here he thought that he had it really bad in Orthopaedics. He took another sip of his coffee before yawning again. "I'm sure that those nurses mean no harm with their behaviour really. Have they tried to chat you up or something along that line?" It wasn't the first time nor would it be the last either. Boaz knew what all that was about the moment Xander decided to bring it up. As oblivious as the older redhead was to the affairs concerning the heart, and he wasn't referring to the physiological heart here mind you, the ladies found this aspect of him endearing though it might have unfortunately caused the usually reserved man a fair amount of distress as he was already alluding to.
"Ah... I suppose that congratulations are in order come Christmas then, Dr Jacobs. I on the other hand have quite a fair bit to go in Orthopaedics. You know how it's like with the life of a surgeon - reach the hospital by sunrise and leave long after it has set." He chuckled, shrugging his shoulders lightly to indicate that that all didn't bother him since this was all a result of his own choosing at the end of the day after all.

Xander laughed and nodded, "well it was actually each of my sister's landing themselves landing themselves in the hospital one after another that pushed me to pediatrics. That was back just before Rose aged out of pediatrics, though Lily would still be pediatrics for two more years until she turns 21. Your right now, I'm pretty good with kids and I'm really glad there are doctors around to ease what ails them."
He sat back, "you remember seeing my sister, huh? We all look alike, Lily and I especially, only real difference being her very slightly darker complexion and her freckles."
He turned to Boax and laughed, "well no, my shift was suppose to start until 5am, so I've quite a bit more time left. Coming in early doesnt mean you leave early in the hospital you know," he said with a laugh enjoying the conversation or well actually even participating in one was rare for him.
"Is that what you call all the eye fluttered, flushed cheeks and non sensical chatter," Xander said with a frown looking slightly wary. "I think I'll pass Dr. Crawford. Very much so. I don't understand why they cant just talk about work or something. Even I start talking about the my work of course they either look at me with funny expressions or are on the verge of tears."
Xander had an exassperated looked to him before sighning and smiling, "Christmas is going to be a busy on this year, with becoming a full time doctor, the holiday and officially starting on with the hospital."
He nodded at his friend, he did know who it could be, "the time will fly by and we will be celebrating it sooner than you know. You'll be invited to the celebration of my finishing of course!"

"I see. Nothing like a life changing event in the family to drive us to pursue a career in Medicine and eventually to what we're doing respectively today." Boaz added wistfully, lifting a hand to rub at his face and nose lest his emotions started to get the better of him with the reminder of his own reason for getting to where he was today. Forgetfulness was one of the signs of ageing and he wasn't faring too well in that aspect since he couldn't quite remember if he had ever brought up Alonzo's incident to Xander before. Not that he was planning on bringing it up now given that he was still effectively at work and had a surgery to tend to before he could call it a day and get himself some much needed sleep.
"Yeah. How have they been as of late? No lingering health issues I hope despite whatever troubled them enough to have to be brought to the hospital back then?" He inquired with a nod, vaguely remembering seeing Lily around on a few occasions though a good number of years had already passed since then. Childhood conditions could be potentially complicated as far as he remembered back from his days at medical school and he certainly wouldn't wish any of them on anyone, much lest a sibling of a friend of his.
"That is so very true but coming in three hours ahead of your shift at 2 am? Are you an insomniac or workaholic or what?" He laughed, deciding that he should probably enlighten the older redhead some on his female colleagues' intentions lest his cluelessness started to affect their working relation in an adverse manner. "I guess they can't help it when they're trying to get to know and hopefully win the heart of a really dashing and very eligible young doctor like yourself. Though I suppose that they should lay off and give you some space for a bit if what they're doing is making you so uncomfortable on the contrary."
He smiled sheepishly at the mention of the coming Christmas, already knowing that he would be stuck at the hospital covering for those who weren't going to be around. "As always since we'll be a little short on staff with people taking time off for the festive season and all." Such was life really but he certainly couldn't blame anyone since he was one of the few in the department who wasn't already married with kids.
"It's amazing isn't it? Feels almost like yesterday when we were both still in medical school and wondering when we'll actually get the chance to see some patients and be a real doctor." He mused, finishing the last of his coffee before retrieving his own phone from the pocket of his scrub suit. "It'll be my greatest pleasure to be there then. Do you have my cell number? Could text me the details at a later time unless you actually have them now which I doubt."

That was so true and while he knew everyone eventually moved out of pediatrics, he found his niche there and was perfectly content to continue onward on the path he had chosen. For now it meant 2 mores years where if his sister and some of his new allies were admitted they would likely go through his team and he'd just be able to know more, do more. It was his way to help outside the war and the night time activities. He hoped no child involved in all this would die on his watch even if they fought against him.
He blinked having been momentarily lost in thought, "They are both just fine. They've surprisingly got no issues. Happy and healthy both of them," he said with a smile. It was true more so for Rose than Lily, who being a senshi would be in and out of the hospital. It seemed almost inevitable at this point in time, but that was just something they had to deal with.
"They called me in, they needed me, what a doctor to do, but come to work. These are the live of children I deal with. That aside, I probably am a bit of an insomniac, or rather I sleep when I can doesnt matter what time it is." He laughed lightly.
Xander's face colored at Boaz at thinking the ladies might be interested in him, or anyone for that matter. "I'm kind of boring don't you think," he sad softly, "and I wouldn't exactly call myself dashing or eligible. I'm not really looking. I don't want to hurt their feeling though."
He sighed before straightening up, "I'm sure you'll see me around Christmas time, though my parents will be in from England and want as of my time as possible or that my mom will want that."
He gave a grin, "it is amazing, to be doing all this. So much schooling, but the end result is well worth it yes and soon very soon I will be done." Xander shook his head before speaking again, "no I havent got it, but", he said fishing his own phone out, "I can put you in now and make sure you get the details, if and when I know what going on. Likely going out to a celebratory dinner."baby_gwing I'll try to be faster! T___T
