Retribution was coming. No one said where, no one said when, but it was clear the attack on the eggs would not be allowed to stand. Blood for blood. . .a sentiment Hekate was all to familiar with. Another thing she had no doubt of was that whatever happened Z'fer would likely be in the thick of it. The man hadn't forgotten the threats to Calanoth's eggs and was far from ready to forgive for such a slight which had left a gold and her rider now straddling the line between the two factions. Z'fer would fight, but not matter how she looked at things Hekate knew she could no longer keep her silence.

Even if it changed nothing, even if it changed everything she had to tell him. It was time. Sipping her cup of klah he beloved flits lay draped over or around her their eyes whirling yellow and orange with worry. Even Devith stuck close to their weyr and was uncharacteristically silent as he watched Z'fer approach. Inside he would be greeted with a small smile and a nod to the chair that sat across from his weyrmate.

"We need to talk." Was all the answer he got.

Well that was unexpected. "Hello to you too Hekate." Z'fer raised an eyebrow, taking his time in removing his flight jacket and hanging it where it belonged for once. Whatever she had on her mind. If it was serious enough to warrant that sort of greeting then it could sharding well wait till he was ready to hear it. Gloves and cap went on the dresser, boots were kicked under the bed and he began to unbraid his hair before he turned back to the table where she sat.

He still found it somewhat disturbing when she sat like that, surrounded by firelizards. The way they flocked around her seemed unnatural. Like she was that fabled white dragon from so long ago. Even his own, Klah and Fellis, seemed to prefer her company over his most of the time (something he didn't exactly regret)

Hekate sometimes had a way about her that seemed inhuman at times. If he ever would get used to it remained to be seen. Z'fer didn't try to disguise the guarded mood her greeting had put him in, but he did drop into the opposite chair with his customary nonchalance, sitting somewhat sideways with one arm draped over the back and mustered up a small smile for her as well. "What's on your mind love?"

Hekate had always loved Z'fer's light hearted nonchalance, but today it only set her on edge as she waited for him to go about his routine. While Hekate herself kept her face schooled into a mask of patience the gradually growing and shifting aggitation of her firelizards and Z'fer's own were clear sign enough that something was deeply bothering the woman. Bothering her enough she couldn't keep it to herself anymore.

As he finally asked what was on her mind Hekate's brow furrowed and for the first time there was a true hint of fear in her deep golden eyes. She'd lived her life with nothing to lose until she'd come to the Weyr. Now she had Devith and him. While she knew in her heart Devith would never abandon her the threat of losing Z'fer was very real in that moment. "You know I love you Z'fer. I don't always say it, but I do. Up till now I've been very vague about my past. I think if you want to make a life with me you have a right to know who the woman sharing your bed is." She replied lifting a comforting hand to scratch Baron's eye ridges even as Klah all, but curled around her wrist begging for scratches of his own. Sometimes when they clung to her like this she couldn't help, but feel like she was just a walking swarm of flits, a lot of little minds that when put together made up one big one.

If possible, Z'fer's arched brow raised even higher. Her toying words at war with the tense emotions that radiated from the firelizards and flickered across her own face. "Vague would be a good way to put it I suppose." He said carefully. He'd been curious, even angry about her secretive past before. It had fallen by the wayside though in light of recent events. He'd even managed to forget about it until she brought it back up.

Z'fer had the urge to get angry again. The desire to say something sarcastic and cruel and entirely unprovoked (sort of). The words even were on the tip of his tongue but he bit them back, opting for a tense flippant remark instead. Something about the way she spoke had his nerves jangling in a most alarming way. He even had the selfish urge to call his flits back to himself, feeling the need to reclaim what was his.

Z'fer made a loose gesture with one hand. "It's not like you're W'lin's daughter, or one of those shaffing wherhandlers. You already told me your dad was a trader right?" He knew she was from the Benden area, and that she and her dad had traveled South. He was a bit foggy on how she became a drudge at Trine though... something he hadn't actually thought to question much until now to his surprise. He'd known her as a rider and only as such (except for that first night of course, but we'll ignore that for now). Was that what she was getting at?

"I already know you were a drudge too." He shrugged one shoulder slowly, grey eyes carefully watching her now.

"W'lin's daughter!? Ha! Now that's absurd!" She laughed a light hearted sound meant more to defuse the tension the out of joy as she shook her head at his remark. "What I said about my family being traders though was actually only half true. My mother works with a band of traders or she did last I saw her thirteen turns ago. As much as I wish otherwise I wasn't lying about being born in Benden. My mother was the daughter of a rather prominent upstanding and traditional Benden cothold family that left her to find her own way in the world after while taking lessons at the Harper hall she got knocked up at a gather day. I was born in Benden, but before I celebrated my first birthday here in the south when my mother came down looking for work and was taken in by a small trader band that took pity on us. I stayed with them until I was five turns old when my mother had a chance run in with my father." Hekate explained hoping that giving some of her background and story would help ease the shock of what she had to tell him.

"Actually Z'fer I'm not a wherhandler or a rebel or a traitor or any of that lot. . .I'm a Holdless." She finally admitted and no matter how badly others might think of her she still spoke of her given title with pride. Rider or no it was in her blood.

"My mother never wanted and she jumped at the chance to get rid of dumping me onto my Holdless father and taking off without a care in the world of what he might do with me. Luckily the Holdless aren't what most Riders and Holder's say they are and my father took pity on me taking me under his wing and raising me. He taught me what skills he knew like how to survive in the jungle, how to steal, run, gamble, fight. . .even kill if I needed too. Even how to kill whers as well since we'd had them set on us more then once. He gave me the best life he knew how, but I wasn't content to remain some nameless Holdless girl living from odd job to odd job. So I set out to find work, but with the recent assassinations no one was hiring so I wandered until I was finally taken on as a drudge here at Trine. I was planning to save up, buy my own runner and cart and start up work as a trader myself. Maybe join a caravan but. . ." And she couldn't help, but smile as she thought back to the hatching.

"Devith had other plans for me." Hekate replied feeling her heart warm with the swell of her dragon's love.
