Locking himself in his room, Jake was sitting on his bed, head in his hands. He was so tired, exhausted, confused. Surely by now, Sherry would have returned... or was she still running the quest by herself?
He stiffened. Why... didn't he?
His mind flashed back to the entrance of the tomb, where he had seen Sherry sitting. From her expression, he could tell she was worn out, and though he hadn't actually seen it, he could have sworn... she was crying. Was it because of the scarabs? The mummies? Didn't she mention there were flesh-eating beetles? To be honest, any one of those things would be enough to scare the living daylights out of a normal human being, but they were hunters. They dealt with death on a daily basis. Stuff like this should hardly phase her, but still... she had...
He drew in a sharp breath, remembering how she had thrown her arms around him, and how he had thought it had been from sheer terror at their surroundings at first, but then, she had... kissed him... and... He still remembered the feeling, how soft her lips were, and... for just a split second... NO! He shook his head, letting out a frustrated groan. No! She was just confused, bewildered, she didn't know what she was doing, but... when he pulled her away, why was there this hurt expression on her face?
N-no... it was just... bewilderment... She didn't... she COULDN'T... There was no way... she would have feelings for him. No way...-GrnGriff Why do you even RP with me pffffffft

Sherry poked at the bruise and sighed. It was ugly, taking up a decent amount of her side at the bottom of her ribcage. The deep, dark yellow-green that said it was about to start fading. A testament to her last spar with Jake. It could have ended worse. It could have...
A shiver ran down her back and she reached for her shirt. It could have been like the tomb. Bodies and walls and....She sighed, trying her best to forget. She was safe here. The walls wouldn't move and the dead wouldn't leak on her. She just had to remember that. If she could just get over-- Another sigh. Death wasn't the only thing on her mind.
"Why do you put up with me?" Sherry was looking in the mirror, busying her hands with making sure the tank top was covering her bra straps properly.
Armagnac made a noise that would have been a snort if she could breath. They'd been over this countless times, and she apparently didn't feel like repeating herself.
"I just...I must be quite stupid." Her hand fell to the scars peeking just above her shirt, and she was reminded of his scars. "Quite stupid." In her mind, she went through the whole scene again. She could see the dead beetles, the torches, Jake. She could feel him...and then she'd gone and pushed the boundary. And he'd.... "I've gone and ruined everything. Friendship included."
"You don't know that, Armagnac." Sherry looked at herself in the mirror, patting at her still damp hair. "I should...apologize."
Sherry rolled her eyes. "I'll be quick about it. Just a quick, 'Sorry. Let's hang out tomorrow.' Or something. I need to at least make sure he made it back alright."
"Yes it is." Sherry walked over and grabbed it. "But this...won't take long."
Armagnac didn't even bother to protest as Sherry left her room and made her way down the hall. In a way, the weapon wondered if it was better for her to focus on this than on the other memories the tomb had drudged up. Her hunter wasn't sleeping for weeks.
Jake would hear a knock at his door. If he bothered to open it, he would find a showered, pajama clothed Sherry waiting for him.

I... Asking WOULD be the easiest way, but... did he really want to know? What if she really did harbour feelings for him? Then what? N-no, she wasn't that stupid, there was no way...
There's... no way... I could never...
... Why? Because-
He flinched when he heard a knock, and whipped his head towards the door.
I...
Part of him just wanted to run and hide. He didn't want to deal with this. Not now, but... where could he go? Besides, all of this was just a big misunderstanding. Of course she didn't have feelings for him, she was just bewildered, scared silly by dead things. She was probably coming here to apologize for that, nothing to worry about.
... If so, then why was he shaking?

The moments dragged by, and Sherry received no response. He would be in his room, right? That was where she usually found him. It was late, and they had run around for a good portion of the day, so the training grounds was not feasible and... What if he hadn't made it back?
Can it. Worry tried to settle itself in her stomach. He had to have made it back. Otherwise...she'd left him behind. The worry in her stomach grew heavy.
"Jake," she said, just loud enough he might be able to hear it. At the same time, she tested the door. Locked. Sherry gave the door another three knocks. Hopefully he was in there. Or showering. Or something.
Her hand moved into her pocket to grab her phone.

He jumped when he heard his name called, and froze. That was... Sherry's voice. So she had... returned safely. ... Of course it'd be Sherry. Who else would be looking for him at this time? Who else would constantly... seeking... The pieces started falling into place.
What? Wait... you KNEW?
Wait, what? WHAT? WHAT ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT?!
There was quite possibly a million question marks above Jake's head.
Chester only sighed.
He cringed.
He heaved a sigh, and pushed himself off the bed. Chester was right. It wasn't fair to keep her in the dark. And he was going to prove to the nergal that he was WRONG. Sherry wouldn't be that stupid. Of course she wouldn't.

It was too bad Jake couldn't talk with Armagnac right then. They would have a lovely conversation about just how stupid the Life girl was.
Sherry had, by that time, flipped her phone open. She could text him. Not that it would do any good if he was in the tomb. Or showering.
Ok. She could knock one more time, then she'd go back to her room. And text him from there.
So she knocked. Then should started counting her heartbeats. At five, she planned to turn and go back to her own room.

Too bad he didn't wait long enough. He opened the door just as Sherry was about to turn away... and noticed she was in her pajamas. ... right. Night, she was going back to her dorm to sleep, yes that'd work.
He quickly tried to close the door again, pretending nothing happened. YOU SAW NOTHING, SHERRY.

She'd been watching that door. Watching it like a hawk watches things. Very closely. Even as she'd begun to turn, her her eyes would have stayed on it.
She saw. She saw the door open, and then start to close. What the hell did that mean?
"Jake?" Instinct had her reaching for the door handle. "What the hell?"

He froze when she reached out and grabbed the doorknob. "Uh, oh, Sherry. Fancy seeing you here." he gave her his best surprised look. "I see you're in your pajamas, and... it's kinda late, don't wanna disturb you, so... yah."
SHUT UP.

Sherry stared at him for a long moment. She simply had to ask herself again, What the hell does that mean?
Still. She may have started turning pink. Was it cause he brought up her pajamas? Or because she suddenly didn't know what to say? That kiss ran through her mind again.
Sherry shook her head. (So what if Jake didn't know why?) Something seemed off...and it was clearly her fault. She...she....
"Jake. Um. Hi. I...." Should just go back to my room and pretend this day never happened.

What WAS he doing? He really didn't know. If only he could have heard her thoughts, he would have agreed whole-heartedly, but... no. He couldn't keep second-guessing himself, especially after... what happened. He needed to know the truth, and if it was what he feared, then...
He paused, biting his lip, and decided to pull the door open, enough room for Sherry to step inside. "Listen, I know it's kinda late, but I think we should talk."

She let go of the door, seeing as he seemed to be opening it. "Oh," her gaze dropped to the ground as he spoke. That was exactly what she wanted. She'd come down here to talk. So...why was she hesitating?
She sighed and looked back to Jake. "I...think so to." She stepped inside, suddenly nervous and blushing and needing to do this. She was sick of aching.
Standing in his room, though, left her feeling very awkward. She'd sat on the bed most other times she'd been here...but last time....Why did her face suddenly feel so warm? Dammit! She didn't want to blush.

The moment she stepped inside, he closed the door, leaning against it. Was it to keep her from running away, or allow him to make the first move should things turn out poorly? He would have offered to let her sit on the bed, but... he was actually hoping they would get this talk over with quickly. Speaking of which...
"By the way, sorry about last night. That was an accident. I hope there weren't any misinterpretations."

She might have looked a bit shocked by his opening statement.
Then she shook her head vigorously. "No...It...it was an accident, I know. Knew. I...." She probably couldn't turn any redder. Misinterpretations? She gave a nervous laugh. "What would I have misinterpreted? The chair broke and..." She gave wave toward the bed.
And today I kissed him. There is no way to misinterpret that.

He watched her reaction carefully. "Is that so? That's... good, then." She was hiding something. "Speaking of misinterpretations... earlier, in the tomb..." His gaze lingered on her, hoping she would tell him the truth. And somewhere deep down, sincerely hoping he was wrong.
