Sun, sand and sea - the mountain lion hadn't really appreciated it's splendour when he had first arrived to stake his claim on this land. To be fair, he had never expected to still be here either! He'd only come to clean up his daughter's mess and yet, in doing so, he had come to call this place home. Admittedly it was still too warm for his tastes in the height of summer but when push came to shove, food was plentiful and the company was sublime.
Today was of no exception and as he watched his pride wander about in their own groups, socialising, playing or otherwise working on their own projects, he wouldn't have had it any other way. The Bahari had experienced many dramas throughout his time here, but they had become stronger for it and had grown closer as a community.
All in all the lion couldn't ask for anything more, things were going swimmingly (as they would say) and so long as it continued in this fashion, he could be a rather lazy pride leader! Alas, a visitor now and again wouldn't have gone a miss, they did add a little bit of spice to life.

The young lioness had been wandering for what seemed like forever, her paws carrying her to places she'd never been before. There were just so many places to see, grasslands and mountains that she'd crossed. Every day was spent traveling, resting or trying to find prey... with the occasional run-in with a stranger.
She was passing through some rocky territory when a strange smell hit her nostrils. Something she hadn't ever smelled before, salty and wet. Curious, she quickened her pace, heading up to the top of the hill she had been climbing. Once she reached the top, she let out a small gasp in surprise!
Down below, way in the distance, she could see that the land ended and led into a giant body of water. After a moment, she realized it had to be the ocean! She'd heard stories, but she'd never seen it herself. Enthusiasm bursting in her chest, she broke into a sudden run down the hill, stumbling a little but quickly catching herself. As she neared the ocean, she was too enthralled with the idea of getting closer that she didn't even notice she'd entered a pride's territory.

The lioness had darted passed him in a blur and for a time he had to question if what he had seen was real, or merely a figment of his imagination. The heat across the sand often had a way of toying with a creature's mind and as the waves rippled from the surface he had to admit that it was a plausible excuse for hallucinating. However he lifted his head and turned his gaze in the direction the blur had 'went' as if to confirm that he had indeed been hallucinating.
Much to his surprise he soon discovered that he hadn't been hallucinating and that the young, foreign lioness had come to a halt no too far away. He remained silent for a time, observing her as her facial expressions shifted and she was greeted by the majesty of the ocean. If he were a betting lion (and he usually was), he would have put a good amount of wealth on the possibility that this might very well be her first time near the ocean.
...She had the same face as they all had when they were first exposed to such a thing.
"If you can swim, I would encourage you to explore further," he spoke at last and offered a small chuckle. "There's even more treasure underneath the surface."

When the lion spoke to her, Olotti let out a small squeak of surprise, turning to face him. She needed to stop being so absent minded, she hadn't even noticed him! She glanced from him to the ocean a couple of times and laughed. "I'm not sure about that, I've never been in this much water..." She said. Sure she could swim, but in this endless stretch of water? IT was a little intimidating.
Moving forward a couple steps, she let the tide wash over her paws. It was warm and the smell of saltiness was strong now. "There's so much water. And the smell... so different. I've never seen anything like this."

"My kind have come to the conclusion that it has something to do with what this water is made of that makes it smell so unique," Ram remarked, turning his gaze towards the water while his ears flicked towards its dulcet tones. "Plants and animals alike live beneath it, in a kingdom of their very own no less," he explained and released a small sigh. "It appears that like our air, the water is their life's breath and as such can only be drank by them."
"For us, it tends to make us feel thirstier," he confessed. Lifting a paw, he pointed it towards an 'opening' in the ocean that seemed to breach the coast and move in land. "Further up the river, we can find safe water to drink if you are thirsty," he offered and lowered his paw again. "For now though, I see no reason why you shouldn't at least take a breath and take a peak underneath."
"The tide is out and there are no rips that we have noted, you should be safe to wander a little distance out."

Olotti's eyes widened a little as Ram explained the kingdom thing, entranced by the idea of an entire kingdom under this water, out of the reach of the creatures like them that walked the land. She'd known of fish, of course, but the way this was explained seemed much more exciting. Though she was an adult, the lioness still held a cub-like excitement for new things.
After Ram suggested she take a look, the lioness turned her head again towards the water. It did seem rather calm, and it did seem interesting. "Maybe it wouldn't hurt..." She said, curiosity getting the better of her as she waded out into the water a little further, and a little further, until it was touching her belly fur. Glancing back at the other lion for a brief second, she took a deep breath and put her head under the water, opening her eyes once it was submerged.
The water was clear and she could see clearly-- he hadn't been lying. Ahead of her, deeper in, she could see the green of plants and the rainbow flashes of the fish and creatures that lived within it. Her eyes flicking back and forth, she was in awe of how it really did look like a whole other world down there.
Of course, the lioness couldn't stay under forever and eventually had to raise her head up to get some air. Inhaling a few times, she turned her head towards Ram and smiled. "It's amazing under there." She breathed.

"Yes it is," he agreed, giving a slight bow of his head as she resurfaced with the same expression of awe that she had displayed previously. By now he wasn't surprised by the reaction but it never got old either, no matter how many times he saw it, the lion still smiled. As a mountain lion he remembered experiencing the same emotion, and the same amazement. So few prides knew of the coast given how far inland they were and how rarely they travelled... Heck, even the nomadic prides rarely approached the shore.
"We do not lie about such things," he remarked and gave a stretch, the toes of his paws wiggling as he shooed away the pins and needles that often came while he lay idle. "It is part of the reason we call this place home, there are far more miracles here than many of us have ever experienced or encountered inland," he continued and then tilted his head to the side, his expression contemplative.
"That and we live in relative peace, separate from the war and strife that often pursue the prides inland," he conceded and offered a wry smile. "I am glad to find another who appreciates this place, you are of course welcome to spend as much time as you care to here," he finished.

Olotti once again seemed to realize at that point she had probably entered this lion's territory. She could smell the scent of others as well, but the male that stood in front of her had an air about him that made her feel like he was the king, or at least very high up in the ranks. "Thank you." She said to him, dipping her head and trying to be polite. She had a small, instinctual knowledge of how respect among lions worked, and she was trying to show such respect even though she'd never belonged to a pride herself.
"I've been wandering for a long time now, without stopping at one place for longer than a night." She explained. "It would be nice to give myself a long rest somewhere as wonderful as this. If you're sure it's okay."

"Provided you have no intention to kidnap our cubs or desecrate our sacred places then you are more than welcome," he replied smoothly, waving his paw idly towards the clusters of lions scattered about along the shore. Suffice it to say that there were very few 'guards' within a visible radius and one might have been so bold as to say there weren't any! Alas this would have been incorrect, but they all held particular vantage points that gave them oversight without disrupting the daily activities of the rest of the pride.
"We have plenty of food and ample shelter for those such as yourself who are unaccustomed to the ocean breeze at night," he continued and then tilted his head to the side, a wry smile toying on his lips. "If you have any questions you may ask anyone you please for assistance," he added and then cleared his throat.
"And hopefully you will forgive my lack of manners for failing to introduce myself, my name is Ram."

Eyes widening, the tan lioness quickly said. "I wouldn't dare! You can trust me." She said, appalled by even the idea of messing anything up. A pride this hospitable was hard to come by often, and she wasn't about to take advantage of that kindness by doing anything to upset them. Her eyes followed the male's paw, glancing down the shoreline at all the lions she hadn't even noticed. A whole, peaceful pride that she had just managed to run right into.
Her attention shifted back then when Ram finally introduced himself, and Olotti realized she hadn't done the same. "It's very nice to meet you, Ram." She said to him, and then immediately introduced herself as well. "I'm Olotti."Epine de Rose ((Excuse me for the late reply, I hadn't even seen that you'd posted! I believe that this can be wrapped up soon, in another post or two? ))

Kiara Adachi Lol it's no problem, it took me a few days to reply as is! And yeah we can wrap this up now if you like. n_n He chuckled at her reaction, tilting his head to the side as he regarded her thoughtfully. She seemed to be genuine in her disgust for such things so he could only surmise that she would keep to her word. The gods knew that they could not handle another event such as the one they had previously suffered. No, for now Ram would have preferred that his pride had the opportunity to relax, unwind and enjoy themselves.
Let them be comfortable, a moment to themselves.
...Then if more hostility came he would deal with it by force if need be.
"It is a pleasure to meet you as well, though I would prefer not to monopolise any more of your time. By all means, please explore. I will be most likely still be in the same spot if you need me," he said with a wry smile.

Olotti nodded at him and took a few steps back, turning around and looking at the pride members that dotted the beach once more. Inhaling quietly, she started to walk towards them, a little excited to mingle with fellow lions after so long. She probably wouldn't stay more than the day and perhaps night, but for now, some company with friendly strangers could be wonderful.
END.
