Winta

User ImageName: Winta [Desire/African]
Race: Pureblooded Leaf
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Single
Sexual Preference: Weapons
Base Traits: Pretentious - Forgiving - Rebellious

Pretentious; Winta is a girl who makes sure she's number one in everything and if she isn't she'll gladly do what she needs to in order to get there. Well, to some extent. Winta isn't really the type to be mean, but if you want to be friends with her you'd better be prepared to butter her up now and then. Being on her good side is fine, being on the 'great' side is even better for you.

Forgiving; While the world revolves around her and what she wants out of it, she's not one to really hold it against someone if they don't see it that way. Well, so long as they come back and apologize for it. Winta hates feeling guilty about things so she figures it's better to forgive and forget. She's also not very good at holding grudges in the first place. Her mind is usually to distracted by other things, like spears and how she can escape the life her Grandmother wants for her.

Rebellious; Winta isn't exactly one to sit around and wait for things to happen and she most certainly isn't one to do something exactly the way someone tells her to. Right now her rebellious nature is mostly directed at her Grandmother, however, that's not to say she isn't going to put up a great amount of fight should someone need her to do something. If they work hard they might be able to get her to do it their way. However, it's highly unlikely.

Class: Prentice > Rogue > Artisan > Weapons Maker
Likes: Weapons, Spears, Making/Designing things
Dislikes: Not being needed
Personality:
Stage One: Winta is the type of girl who believes it's her way or the highway but if you make the mistake of going the highway, she can be forgiving. Though, it may take some incredible amount of effort on your part. While she's not necessarily against authority, Winta isn't the type to sit around and let things go their proper and full coarse. If she wants something done she's going to get it done no matter what. Despite her general attitude she really is very nice unless one of the above reasons have been affected.

Stage Two: Thus far, Winta seems to be more relaxed than she was as a prentice and still holds herself to a higher standard than most. She also appears to be more devoted to those whom she forms a relationship with as well. Winta is still not a push-over, can be somewhat flirty when the opportunity arises and doesn't seem to mind when people stare at her chest or other womanly features. It goes without saying that she is generally a confident person who can get a little out of hand when it comes to her work. Whenever Winta takes on a commission for a weapon she goes at it with no tolerance for distractions.
Speech Color: #CC0033

Met in the Alkidike war when he came into her weapons tent. He seems to have some kind of burden hanging over him but he's really adorable when he's shy! He's the first person she's ever met who is somewhat shy so its definitely harder for her to figure out how to get through that since shy she isn't. Rue was probably her best friend in the entire world. They both loved weapons and he's the first person she's ever been able to talk to about them. Prior to her journey she had started to possibly develop feelings for him but she's moved past them. Kind of misses the friendship they had though.
👌 Yaholo
Seems like a cool dude and allowed her to teach him how to carve. Good in her book.

Vers: Winta's family has lived in the Vers region since her great-grandfather married and moved to the settlement in order to be closer to his wife's family. Earlier generations of her family are from Yware, but they only have knowledge of their family roots from Winta's great-grandfathers, great-great-great-great grandmother. Currently Winta lives in Vers with her grandmother Zoan and only makes trips to the other regions in order to gain more knowledge and skills for her chosen career path.

Zoan [Grandmother]: Speech color: #CC6666
A very shrewd woman who primarily raised Winta. While she can be a gentle woman she hardly ever shows it, at least where Winta is concerned because she hopes to raise her to be a respectable young lady. The woman is not happy about her granddaughter showing a love for weapons and would prefer that she chose a path that is less manly (a complaint she had with her own daughters profession). Zoan also wants to find her granddaughter a leaf man to marry her as quickly as possible in order to keep Winta from doing something stupid and to make sure she stays in the tribe.

One hundred different family problems solo

Rising bright and early as usual, Winta stood on the otherside of the curtain that separated her room from other rooms in her house. When she stepped beyond it she would have to go to the kitched where she'd be forced to make breakfast with her grandmother. Well, she didn't really mind cooking with her grandmother, but she hated the conversations that they had while cooking and they never ended well. Usually they shouted at each other and Winta would storm out. All of it lately revolved around her choice in career. Winta wanted nothing more than to make weapons and create new ways that made not only wielding the weapons safer, but the one wielding them safer. She'd always had a knack for making things so her grandmother had encouraged her to take up craft making, however, she'd wanted her to make jewelry and other homely items. Never would she had guessed that her granddaughter wanted to do something so vastly different. After a deep breath and mentally arming herself, Winta walked down the small hallway that led to the kitchen and found her grandmother standing at the fire pit with a large array of contents laid out for what they were going to be eating today.

"Morning." Winta said gently as she sat near her grandmother with only some food content to separate them. Her grandmother looked up from stoking the fire. "At least you have enough sense to wake up early on your own." Zoan --her grandmother--replied. Great, she's already in a bad mood this morning. Winta thought to herself. "You taught me that the earlier you wake up the more you can get done in a day." She responded, trying to at least ease a little of the tension for as long as she could. Winta loved her grandmother and hated to fight with her. After all, she was the only one she had. Her parents were dead and her mother's parents had passed away when she was to young to even remember who they were.

"Oh, so now you listen to what I say? News to me." Her grandmother said with a condescending tone. Winta picked up a pot and put it over the rocks that were placed above the fire to heat the food up. Zoan was nothing, if not old fashioned in everything. "I guess I didn't completely fail in raising you to be a good woman." Zoan had the view that a woman's place was behind her husband, to speak when spoken to and if she did work at all she needed to do homely activities--she also had a very narrow view on what type of relationships were allowed in her family or those they associated with. When Winta had told her grandmother she wanted to make things for a living Zoan was beyond overjoyed. She'd instructed her on how to make clothing, mend them and showed her how to make some jewelry, while also enlisting the help of one of the other tribe members. Winta couldn't deny the joy she got when making things or when others liked what she made, however, just like her parents before her Winta had a desire to hold a weapon. Unlike her parents though Winta had no desire to fight in battles, instead she wanted to help the fighters of her tribe. Making jewelry, pots and pans weren't going to help them so Winta decided she would try to learn what she could about making weapons. It was hard to hide it from her grandmother, but for a good few months she was able to learn in secret by reading books. Of course it would have been much easier to just see the weapons maker that lived in Tale, but her grandmother would find out about it. Of course she did anyways and the reaction Winta had expected had happened. No matter how hard she tried to convince her that this was what she wanted to do and how she wasn't in danger doing this job, at least compared to what her parents chose, nothing would convince Zoan, so Winta was forced to go against her in a way she never had before.

As her grandmother placed a pan on the stones and put vegetables in it to cook. "I've always listened to you and done exactly what you told me. It's just this one thing that I won't conform to." Winta looked at her grandmother and frowned. "Why can't you let me do something that makes me happy? It's not dangerous and I'll be stuck here just like you'd always wanted." Maybe it wasn't a good idea to add that last part in, but it was the truth. Winta had lived a very sheltered life, only having a limited knowledge about things that her grandmother didn't believe suited her to know, if she was even allowed to hear about them at all. One such example was that Winta had never known until just recently that a person could be of mixed race. Her grandmother had taught her that only those that were of the same race could have children. If a couple from different tribes got together the world would conspire against them in every way possible, let alone their bodies would refuse to hold a child from such a union. "Please just listen to me." Winta pleaded.

"Listen?!" Zoan looked as if Winta had slapped her with her words. "I always listen to you, but this fantasy of yours will only bring you shame and heart break. What man will want to marry you? You spend all your days whittling away at tree's trying to make weapons that never turn out! You need to get your head out of the clouds!" Her grandmother yelled, her face turning red in the process.

Winta knew that it was impossible to try and talk with her now that she was this angry. Winta's hands shook. Her career wasn't some fantasy, she could do it. She might be just as good at as craftmaking if she was given proper training. Despite the fact that nothing she made turned out quite like it should she'd managed to get close enough to the real thing by self teaching. That had to be an incredible feat for anyone to accomplish. Given more time she may one day be able to produce a spear that could actually be used. "It's not a fantasy! I will become a weapon maker and I'll have hundreds of people from all the tribes coming to have something made by me! If you weren't such a bitter, closed-minded, selfish old woman maybe you'd actually know who I am." Winta exploded. She couldn't take it anymore. She needed to get out and breath the morning air. Winta jumped up and ran out of the house, climbing down the tree's to the ground below and running as fast and as far as her short legs would take her.

Spear making solo

Winta’s fight with her grandmother had caused the girl to run as fast as her legs would carry her to the border. It was there that she climbed up onto a dead tree, cut off a big branch and began the process of making her first spear. Since she was young Winta had an obsession with spears. Her parents had been Leaf warriors and her father had been the one to use a spear. Even now she could remember how he looked, standing at the door with his spear in his hand, right before heading off with her mother to do whatever job they needed to. Winta had been about six when her parents had died on one of those jobs. She remembered being very sad about her parents death but it didn’t really bother her anymore. Zoan on the other hand was still broken up about it. Her daughter had wanted to be a warrior and Zoan hadn’t approved of that, though she was at least open to the idea at the time. Winta’s mother had met her father when they were both trying to become warriors and fell in love. From there the rest just progressed, they got married, had a child and then died. Winta admired her parents in a lot of ways and it was in that, that she’d formed her decision to be a weapons maker. For a while she had thought maybe she’d be a warrior too, but with the dangers that came with the job she decided she’d rather make something to protect people as opposed to harming them with her own hands. Despite how she seemed, Winta really cared about family and having lost her own she understood how it felt for other families to lose someone they cared for. It was perfect for her too since she always needed something in return for something she did.

After about four or five hours—Winta couldn’t be sure on the time—her first spear was complete. It was a horrible looking object what with large looking chunks missing from it, the shape was right but it was made too thin. It certainly couldn’t be thrown and if she tried to use it in close combat it would definitely snap. However, despite how useless and ugly it looked, Winta was beaming from ear to ear at her creation. Her first attempt had at least come out to be a spear. Sure she had a long way to go before she could actually use it, but it was a start. Admittedly she did feel slightly frustrated that it hadn’t been a spear like the one her father had held, but she didn’t outwardly show it. Winta inspected the spear once more before she finally put away her carving knife. ”Well, it’ll do.” She said out loud, pulling herself back up onto her feet and stretching. Her body ached a bit from sitting in a hunched over position for so long but she wasn’t about to complain. With an exhale of relief, Winta looked up at the sky. The sun was high in the sky so she knew she’d definitely been gone for at least several hours. Zoan would be in a furious, slightly worried state when she came back, but she’d leave her alone for the most part. ”I guess I should go back now.” With that Winta turned away from the tree and began a slow trek back to her house. She didn’t really want to go home and face her grandmother yet again, however, she knew she needed to. At least for now.

Returning home had taken another two more hours out of the day, but the bright sun above the Tale landscape kept on pounding down on them. It would be quite some time before it was dark out. Winta didn't like that at all. That meant more time with her grandmother. Oh well. Her stomach growled and hurt from hunger. She hadn't eaten breakfast nor had she tried to eat something while she was out. Winta was lucky she had her health because her brain was clearly way to enthralled with weapons to give two cents about anything else. It hadn't been smart of her to run off without eating. When she got back all she would have to do is bite her tongue and make dinner with Zoan. Yes, she could do it. Winta's eyes shifted to the spear in her hand; having forgotten that it was there to begin with. "Maybe I should hide this." It was a wise decision on her part. If her grandmother would have seen it she would be irate.

Deciding it was better to sneak in and hide her spear rather than letting her grandmother see it, Winta moved with slow precision to her window and tossed it through, making absolutely sure it would fall onto her stack of blankets. With a sigh of relief Winta continued on around to the front of the house and went in; inhaling. "Grandma, I'm back." Already she could feel the tension in the air. It was going to be hard to talk to her grandmother, but once more she convinced herself that she needed to do it. Her stomach depended on the good jugement part of her brain now. "About earlier. . . I shouldn't have run off like that." Winta saw her grandmother move from the place where she had been sitting, making some kind of clothing article for someone, and sat down once more by the fire. It was a good sign. If her grandmother said nothing that meant that Winta was forgiven and that she would be allowed to eat. All her grandmother did was pat the spot next to her before putting a pot on the fire. "Peel those and cut these so we can eat." Her grandmother added, pushing two containers with knifes on them next to her. Winta and Zoan always sat next to each other but they always had something in between them. It was pretty much a custom in their household. They made their meals together, Winta helped around the house, and Zoan would have Winta help her make some of the items that had been ordered. They were a lot alike, though no one ever pointed it out.

Finished Spear

It had been about two weeks since Winta had met Yaholo and made a spear that was close to be a nearly perfect one. Well, perfect compared to any other she had made before then. Since that day she had been working tirelessly to make one that fit what she wanted in a spear. Something that could hold up to being thrown and shoved into the hide of a animal or, worse case scenario, a person. A small balloon of pride swelled in her chest every time she looked at the spear she made with the boy. Once Yaholo had left she had made another spear that was just as durable as the other. It could at least be thrown without breaking. Whether it would break when it hit the ground was debatable. After that day Winta had started back at the basics, making small stakes and when they were perfect she would move up to a larger piece of wood and so on. After about a week and a half she was up to full sized spear. Then within a couple days Winta had finished a perfect spear shaft. The metal piece that would actually deal the damage hadn't been made yet but that was something Winta had no trouble with. Zoan was an artisan so when it came to sewing or anything that had to be made with metal she had also made sure to pass that onto her granddaughter. Winta's parents had went to a weapons maker but they could have had the old woman do it.

Winta took several moments to take in the beauty of her creation before she took the spear in hand, headed out of the tree hut and down to the world below where the forge was. It took her a short walk to make it to her destination and upon entering she took an inhale of the smell of burning metal. "Mmm." She exhaled happily. Most people would have probably thought she was crazy to enjoy the smells within the confines of the forge, but it wasn't like Winta gave a crap what others thought. This was one of her happy places and no one would ever take it away from her. Not even Zoan.

Before she got too far ahead of herself, Winta made sure to prop the shaft up against the corner of the wall to keep it from falling. Not that it would break if it did. Not now anyways. Once it was secured Winta threw on a pair of gloves and grabbed a hunk of material that would become the head of her spear and then began getting to work. "Okay, I can do this." It was a measure of reassurance that Winta didn't really need but it had almost become a habit. Or mantra. After so many failed attempts with the spear though it had been needed at times. It was with a slow precision that she molded and worked the chunk until it slowly began to become shaped into a good spear tip. It took her a few hours to complete it and then she had to let it sit. As it cooled Winta began to make small nails to attach the tip to the spear and then once they were completed she let them sit once more.

By the time she was finished it was about lunch time and it would still be a few hours until she would be able to finish her spear so she decided to venture home and make herself something to eat. Winta had a terrible habit of forgetting to eat when she was working. So moments like these were always a blessing in disguise. Once Winta was in her kitchen she began heating up the center pot and pulling out items she would make into a soup. Most people would not heat a hot food item when it was this hot outside, let alone working around a forge, but Winta did what she wanted. "I think this will taste good." She said, holding a couple ingredients in her hand before dumping them into the pot. Usually all meals were made by her grandmother and her. They would sit around the fire and work together. In recent years Zoan and her hardly got along but in this one setting, no matter how angry they were there was no fighting allowed. Sure the occasional talk that caused their fight came up but things were always kept calm. Winta was a little sad to be making lunch by herself but if Zoan was around right now it would only mean a fight. Winta sighed softly.

It took about an hour for her food to cook and during that time she kept herself busy by thinking of trinkets she could make to put on her spear. Then she decided against it. Winta also began to contemplate what she would do with it after it was completed. It wasn't like she would be using it. However, she wasn't sure she wanted to give it away to anyone quite yet either. Maybe it was better to keep it for now, a constant reminder of her struggles. That brought a smile to her face. "How the spear tried to conquer me and failed. I like that." She boasted to herself before dishing herself out a bowl of food and eating. It wasn't too bad. While she ate she continued to contemplate the spear and how it would look when she was done. It felt like lightning was coursing through her veins.

After Winta had finished her lunch and cleaned up she once more made the trek to the forge, her excitement seeming to grow with each step she took. When she finally reached the forge she was literally skipping. Once she was inside she quickly got to work attaching the tip to the shaft of the spear and within the hour it was complete. It had taken a little shaping to get it to sit correctly onto the wooden shaft but that wasn't something a small mallet couldn't fix. Tears came to her eyelids as she looked at her spear. It was done. After all this time, all the hardships, it was completed. It looked spectacular. Winta was beside herself with joy and pride. Of course she instantly wanted to show it off to everyone she knew and came in contact with. However, she continued to sit there and take it in. This was her most prized possession. It had kept her going and ruined her life all at the same time for quite some time now. Now though? Now it was just a challenge that had been conquered. Everything she was told she could and couldn't do had went into this. All the people she had met in the process were in this. It was odd to think something could mean and represent so much at once but this spear certainly did just that. "I can't believe it." Winta said a little hoarsely, holding back tears.

Summer Meta 2013

The Stands pg 6
Winta had made the decision somewhat late in the game to watch the fights going on between the various competitors. When she came in the first round had already ended and the second was finishing up between most of the competitors. What ultimately led her to the decision to come was the fact that she would get to see various types of weapons in use and it couldn't hurt to see how they were actually used in combat. It's not like there was a war she could sit on in and watch the fighting. Heck, she probably wouldn't want to do that even if she could. Okay, maybe she would. The point was, she was here and ready to learn. How were the weapons fairing? Did they do the intended damage or was there a way to improve them? Her mind was enthralled with weapons and not at all with the people wielding them. She could focus on that later and in fact would. With a grin Winta made her way to the stands and found herself a spot on the left middle end of the stands. It seemed like a good place to watch from. "I wonder what's happened up to this point." Winta said out loud and then mentally kicking herself for not checking before-hand.

The Stands pg 7
Winta hadn't been paying too much attention to the people who were around her until Shirin and Hijil had started to talk about ways of finding out who was competing. A bookie? So she just had to look for someone who looked like they were up to no good? Somehow she felt herself being plunged into more trouble taking that route. First she'd try to ask these girls for some assistance. Winta turned herself towards them though she focused more on Shirin since she was the one who seemed to know more about this bookie than she did. "Do you know what the bookie looks like? Or where he could be found?" Winta asked her. "I'd be interested in finding out who's in the spars today." Winta added, giving her a smile.
