Personality:
Strengths
+) Tenacious- Valerian has the tenacity of a cockroach. Not only does he never seem to die, but when he sets his mind to a particular course of action he doesn't relinquish it unless, of course, something better happens to formulate in his head. In an odd way it affords him a sort of patience so that he get what he wants done, done. But then again, when you get to be as old as him, time ends up being a fairly loose construct.
+) Adaptable- And speaking of being old (and, again, like a roach), Val didn't get that way by being reticent in his ways. As well as being a master of manipulation, he tends to be exceedingly flexible to the world around around him. He can find himself at home just about anywhere given a decent knowledge of his surroundings. And when the world turns on its head, while everyone else is still wrapping their heads around their new topsy-turvy new reality, Val is already comfy and cozy in it like it has been that way for years.
+) Shrewd- What's the difference between being arrogant and confident? The moxie and wit to back up your claims. Valerian happens to have a pretty damn good ball of meat on his shoulders, good enough that it happens to still be ON his shoulders despite the fact that he mouths off to those who are (physically) his superior. His ability to move through existence like he was playing a game of chess has gotten him a good deal of respect (and envy) in Niflheim, mainly because he has an uncanny ability to disguise his pieces flawlessly. Is it a cheat to make the king look like a queen (and vice versa)? Not to him, not if you move them properly.
Neutral
o) Nihilist- Valerian rejects the notion that life has any meaning (probably why he takes it so easily). He has no moral compass that he lives by, no principles to follow, his existence revolves around causing as much malicious chaos to the human and witch worlds as he can manage. He delights in madness more than death and destruction, for the latter will come without his help or even his presence.
o) Hedonistic- Sex, drugs, booze, torture...anything that tickles the hypothalamus region of his brain Valerian is drawn toward. Given his abnormally lengthy existence and his lack of belief in life having any meaning, he's found that pleasure is the only thing worth pursuing in between fulfilling the wishes of the demon king.
Weaknesses
-) Malevolent- While Valerian (and those of his ilk) would refuse to call this a weakness, it is certainly is considered by the majority to be a personality flaw. He delights in cruelty, is deceptive and manipulative, and will even cultivate followers and use propaganda to achieve his goals.
-) Capricious- Valerian is as changeable as the wind. He can be joyous and good-humored one minute and murderous and raging the next. It makes being in his company akin to playing a game of Russian Roulette.
-) Facetious- An offshoot of being a nihilist means that matters typically deemed serious are treated as flippantly as possible. The more serious the matter, the more terrible the jokes.
