Ellion kept his diaphanous wings pressed tightly to his body as he picked his way through the trees, basking in the feel of the steaming earth yielding beneath his hooves and the late afternoon sun that sparkled across his back as it filtered between the leaves to warm his face.

It had been ages since he had traveled this far from home, and it was his first time alone. Although he missed the company of his family, he found the unusual solitude strangely peaceful, and was content. He hummed to himself softly as he walked, enjoying the burn in his muscles from the unfamiliar exertion and taking a deep breath of the heavily perfumed air.

Shaking out his long prismatic locks he pranced about playfully as the trees slowly began to thin, squinting his eyes in the sudden brightness as he finally reached the edge and his gaze swept out across the bright flower dotted meadow that cupped the jungle, long grasses and colorful blooms swaying lazily in the breeze. It's beauty was wild and unpredictable, utterly unlike the tame rows of blossoms maintained by his parents at home. It held a different kind of allure for him and his eyes drank it all in hungrily. "Wow..." he stammered finally after a long moment of speechlessness.

Faelwyn had not expected the spirits to bring her company. Perhaps it was a good thing she did not know about such a plan, for the young mare might not have gone out if such were the case. As it was, ever oblivious of the arrival of the stranger near the outskirts of the meadow, the mare was only too happy to enjoy her game.

It was, perhaps, not the most ladylike thing to do; to prance around, carefree, like a filly; to kick up her hooves, to pause in her romp only to admire this beautiul lily here, or enjoy the fragrance of those flowers there. A lady should always have regal bearing, or so she had come to understand. . .and yet. . . . Here she was, simply indulging in the beauty of the world.

How Faelwyn loved her gardens. The flowers and greenery grew wild in such a climate, and the neighboring jungles provided birdsong and shade when she grew too warm. It was here, in her quiet, botanical sanctuary, that the mare could truly let down her hair and be herself. The only ones who ever seemed to come by this way were her immediate family, and they would not judge her for her games. Faelwyn had always been naturally shy and reserved -- she lacked her father and siblings sense of adventure and had inherited a great timidity about the world.

This day was no different.

Chasing her shadow, attempting to out run it, the mare was full of laughter and joy. It was only when she crested a small hill with a gleeful leap, that her eyes landed upon the most unfamiliar of soquili standing near the borders. The giggle transformed in to horrified silence, and she landed hard on her hooves slamming on the breaks immediately. Ears pricked, wings partially flared from surprise, the mare could not believe that someone, some stranger, had witnessed such unlady like composure.

. . . And she was supposed to be a princess.

Quickly, the mare dropped her gaze, lowered her head, and frantically tried to rememer what it was she should next do. Say hello. Greet the stranger. That was . . . that was it. And yet, he was still far away, and while she could yell, that hardly seemed appropriate. But what if he didn't want company? What if she were interrupting him? Oh, but . . . but to just ignore him would be rude too!

This was why Faelwyn liked to keep to her own council. At least that way, by herself, she didn't have to worry about mucking up all the etiquette. ". . . G-greetings, sir," she finally choked out, though her words were so faint, it would be a surprise if he actually might ear them.

His muscles clenched to leap out among the wildflowers and sunshine with reckless abandon, Ellion was pulled up short when a soft, timid sound tickled his ears. His curiosity peaked, he shifted his vision away from the glory before him and beheld the very lovely, very distressed looking mare standing a few feet away. Had she said something? She must have, although, the way she was staring at him, he thought she expected him to grow another head and start spitting fire at any moment.

Ellion smiled at her reassuringly and gave a slight dip of his head in greeting, inquisitive eyes sweeping over her unfamiliar features and then focusing on the small gold wrought crown perched atop her dusky mane. Remembering the fairytale stories his mother had told Losille and himself every night before bed as foals, he bowed his neck low in a slightly unbalanced, imperfect attempt at deference, his wings spreading out from his sides to further the effect. Perhaps she wore it simply for appearances sake, but he didn't mind the extra courtesies, even if they proved unnecessary. He was a stallion of modest temperament.

Straightening, his face broke into a convivial grin, "Good day, lady." he responded to what he took to be her greeting, taking a few steps foreword until they were close enough to speak comfortably. He felt no danger in the mare's presence so he was surprised to find his heart beginning to pound heavily against his chest as he moved closer, an unfamiliar sensation which he chose to disregard for the moment. "I'm Ellion, I apologize if I startled you. I was just going for a stroll through the jungle, I didn't expect to come across anyone out here."

His smile was still warm and welcoming although the stallion shifted from hoof to hoof every so often, feeling abashed and hoping whatever he had done to trouble the mare so could be forgiven.

Bright, turquoise eyes didn't seem to know where to look, and danced from her hooves, up to the stallion, and back down again. On the one hand, she knew that she should feign confident, hold her head high, and at least try to look the stranger dead in the eye. On the other hand, she didn't want to stare, or gape, and she could not help but wonder if he might accuse her of being rude by doing so. He wasn't a monster, simply a stranger . . . Why should she be so troubled?

Alas, it was in the nature of the mare. She had not the spirit of her sisters, nor the confidence of her parents, or the boldness of her brothers to actually embrace the world. No, such strength of will had always been elusive to the young mare, and so it was, she stood looking more the fool.

Oh, if only one of her family members would appear. She could take strength in their presence, follow their lead, fade to the background as they commanded the attention of their guests. Unfortunately for Ellion, he was stuck with simply her....

What little Faelwyn did notice of the stallion was the fact he was a flutter. She'd never seen one before, and the most delicate of pale, green wings sprouted from his back. They were most unlike her own! His colors were of soft moss, his curled hair of the dawn, and he donned beads of the most peculiar origin. Certainly, he was no kalona or skinwalker, no predator...at least... at least he didn't look the part. Still, when he stepped closer, she almost took an involuntary step back, but stopped herself.

He was being polite, the last she could do was offer him the same. "H-h-hello," she repeated, realizing too late she'd already greeted him. Hurriedly, she added, "N-no, no, it's. . . It's quite all right. You're . . not far from my family's herd lands. I was s-simply enjoying the . . the fields." It was a bit stop and go, her words tentative and still soft spoken. Only too late did hse recall that he had been so kind as to give her his name, and she had been stammering on about nothing. Her wings sunk some. "I'm sorry, I'm being rude. I'm...I'm Faelwyn. It's good to meet you, sir." A cordial, delicate bow was offered to the stallion, though she still did not meet his eye.

"Not at all," Ellion replied calmly, "two strangers happening across each other unexpectedly, some awkwardness on both ends is only to be expected." His smile was gentle as he minced back a few steps intuitively to leave her a little more breathing room. "Just Ellion is fine, but thank you Faelwyn, its wonderful to meet you!"

He stepped past her and admired the scenery once more, his eyes shining. Faelwyn seemed a little timid but had given him no reason to believe he wasn't welcome to share the field with her, at least for a little while. The thought made his face crack into a grin. It had been some time since he had had company, a nice word for traveling alone was relaxing but perhaps boring was a more apt term. The mare had seemed to be enjoying herself when he happened upon her, perhaps if she they could spend time together without tossing pleasantries back and forth, Faelwyn would feel more at ease. He was curious about her herd and her family, and the crown atop her head, but there would be time enough for that conversation later. Perhaps if he took her by surprise he could tug her out of her shell a little at a time.

Maroon eyes sparkling with youthful mischief, he stretched his neck foreword and pressed his velvety muzzle against her shoulder, laughing joyfully as he then darted away, using his wings to add buoyancy to his strides as he leaped away like a deer in pursuit. "Tag, you're it!" he called over his shoulder frivolously, hoping she would catch his whimsical mood and play along. The day was far too beautiful to let it pass without a little good-natured frolic and frolicking was always much more satisfying with company.

So sorry for the delay! Argh. /so slow forever

To say that the mare had not expected the stallion to poke her with his nose, much less dart off and an attempt to instigate a game was an understatement. She all but jerked back in surprise, her head wings flaring, even as her teal eyes went wide as plates. It took her mind a moment to process what that had been about -- it hadn't been attack or a bite or anything harmful, and his laughter and jovial nature was not at all fierce. But. It had still startled her.

Well.

What was the problem then?

She hesitated just a moment, trying to figure out her place. She was supposed to be an elegant princess, and instead she was standing in the field, all but quivering in fear and intimidation. Still, the shy mare had never really played with many others before, much less as a mostly grown adult. She was young, but learning the rules was hard.

She was supposed to treat and humor the guests, right? And this stranger, this Ellion, he was . . . he was a guest, was he not? So it was, the mare had no choice, even if she felt her nose and ears stain pink with color. "Tag?" She questioned, but as seeing the other hurrying away, she had no choice but to try to catch up.

Faelwyn had a bit of a late start, and she did feel a bit peculiar running after a grown stallion like she was, but. . . . he hadn't given her any choice! Granted, had he asked if she'd wanted to play, she would have refused, but. . .but. . . . Now she had to at least try to catch up to him. If not to tag him, than to at least speak. So it was, the mare hurried after him as he ran. She didn't want to ruin his fun, after all. And he did look to be having such a thing.

Maybe, if he kept her running, she'd forget all about her current anxiety and shyness. Maybe, if she followed, his own good humor might rub off on her own. She was being a good hostess by doing this, wasn't she? Oh, Faelwyn hoped so. . . now if only she could catch up!

Craning his neck, Ellion could see that Faelwyn was in hot pursuit. She was still quite a ways away though, it seemed he had taken her by surprise. That was good, he hoped his jovial antics would help to ease some of her shyness. The stallion continued to bound away for a bit before stopping to wait for her. Leaning down, he puffed his cheeks out and blew at a patch of dandelions, the fluff spreading out on the wind in a swarm to form a swirling wall between himself and his companion.

Ellion's smile was radiant as he danced through the fresh grass, breathing deeply to try and catch his breath as he waited for Faelwyn to catch up. His eyes traced the graceful lines of her features and the wind blowing through her hair as he watched her approach, feeling a strange surge of something unfamiliar every time their eyes met. It was disconcerting but in a rather enjoyable way, he found himself gazing at her more often to try and identify the swirl of feelings that danced shyly at the edge of his consciousness.

"We should have an adventure." he declared when he judged she was close enough to hear him, his voice still a bit breathless, "You said your family lives nearby, so we must not be far from where you grew up? we should venture forth into the great unknown!!!" He indicated the edge of the forest with a flourish and a silly wink, not entirely sure where he intended to go but certain he wanted to get to know this quiet mare a bit better.

It felt strange to chase after a stranger, and the blue eyed mare couldn't help but feel self-conscious about her actions. She didn't know him, but she was supposed to be a lady, and was supposed to be hosting him now that he'd stumbled upon her families land. While that was all well and good, the mare had never thought that humoring a visitor would involve some sort of impromptu game.

Thankfully, the stallion didn't make her chase him around everywhere. He had slowed down up ahead, and in turn, Faelwyn slowed her own gait. She felt disheveled and a bit a mess, and still terribly uncertain about this whole thing. Oh, if only she didn't have to be so shy!

Panting a bit herself, the winged mare watched the dandelion seeds dance on the wind. It was easier to look at them than at the stallion, especially when she was certain she was certain she was an absolute tousled mess. Unfortunately, though, the stallion seemed to forget about their game of tag (which was probably a good thing for Faelwyn!) but his next suggestion was absolutely worse!

Aqua eyes went large with surprise, her head wings flaring with her alarm. ". . . an adventure?" She queried, her anxiety only growing. Oh, this stallion was putting her in quite an uncomfortable position. She absolutely did not have any interest in venturing in to those jungles; she'd done so in the past, and it had only resulted in stress and nerves. She knew where the best flowers were when she did have to go, and never went an inch further. Not, at least, without her family in tow, and even then, she was always anxious to return to her precious gardens. ". . . these are their lands," she admitted quietly, dropping her gaze back to her hooves. "But I . . . . I'm afraid I'm not particularly adventurous. I like the known well enough, but. . . you're free to go on and explore." It wasn't exactly a no, but it was as close as Faelwyn could get.

There was no way she was going out there if she could help it, especially with a stranger! "I'm s-sorry but. . . . but I have duties to tend to here." Which was the truth. She was a princess of the Flower Court - -she couldn't just pick up and away. At least . . at least that's what she had told herself. So what if her sisters and brothers were both adventurous and outgoing sorts? Someone in the family had to take after Miriel!

Ellion studied her reaction to his proposed adventure, alarm was clear in her bright eyes and he felt sorry for distressing her so. He felt puzzled, and a trifle disappointed, but only because he had hoped to help her feel more comfortable and seemed to have instead created more anxiety.

"Alright then," he responded, giving her his most charming smile. He wondered why he didn't just go off and leave her to her own amusements, she seemed so unnerved by his presence, but something about her smoothed some of the jagged edges within himself and he found that he simply enjoyed her company for its own sake. "Nothing wrong with embracing the familiar," although he couldn't help but feel she was missing some of the most exciting aspects of life by not chasing the unknown, he knew he had no place challenging her personal preferences, especially when he was a guest in her piece of the world.

Ellion hesitated, lightly kicking at the ground as he pondered what the best course of action would be. "Do you have to be alone to tend to your duties?" He asked, his ears poking up hopefully as he peered at her with a vulnerable look in his eyes, "I could help you, if you'd like." Perhaps she would send him away, perhaps she would allow him to stay. Either choice would answer part of the question dancing in Ellion's heart that he couldn't quite give meaning to. He felt a breathless heaviness in his chest at the thought of having to go away before trying to identify what resonated within him at the sight of her, but he would heed her wishes.
