If there was one thing that Captain Mica was absolutely certain of, it was that the Negaverse just wasn't what it used to be. Somewhere along the lines, things had changed. And the change that Mica saw... did not please her. Not in the least.

She had no idea who had made these changes, nor why. She didn't want to know. Apparently they felt that they needed to change things around and perhaps they were right. Those changes were what was best for the organization that she once cared about, or at least that was their intention.

Now? They felt divided. Taken and broken down into three groups, and Mica was expected to pick a single unit to concentrate on? It was hard to make such a decision, though for Mica, the one that was the ideal choice for her was Spec-Ops. Just, the vanguard. The ones that took action. But even they were tamed. Like a gelded lion with its teeth pulled, they could not be the Negaverse they once were.

And Mica despised this. She knew better. She would not conform to their ways. Tonight, she was out, prowling for a Senshi or Knight that would be ill-fated to cross her path. What did she care for good relations with the media? What did she care of reputation that was not her own? As far as Mica was concerned, she had a reputation of her own to keep up, and what better way than cleaning the streets of a single enemy?

She took to the business district with a desire in her heart. Her collection was running low, and she wanted to show her roommate was a real starseed looked like. Perhaps she'd find a Senshi out on patrol? Those were exceptionally beautiful and would certainly outshine that drab thing that Buddingtonite brought home. Tonight, she'd do what she wanted to do, what the Negaverse was now afraid to do. Even if she had to do it alone.

Serpentine was not having as easy a time as he might wish. This Senshi was certainly not the most powerful he had ever faced. No, that distinction rested with Remarque and the unnamed Tiger Senshi that had propelled him into this war. Thinking of both, if only for a brief moment, was enough to make him hiss. He blocked the blow to his face, but the one to his gut made him lean over.

When he had first begun, such a blow might have grounded him, but the snake wielder had learned much--and earned much endurance--during his short tenure. While painful, he was able to overcome it and retialite. His swung fist connected with the Senshi's face and sent his opponent flying. The business district was mostly deserted at this time of night, which made the open streets an ideal battle ground.

Serpentine was not distracted to the point where he did not feel a more powerful Chaos signature approaching. Serpentine just didn't care. Let them come and join the fray, if they wished--or go, as they pleased. Or observe his glory and take inspiration from it. He had no time to wait and make introductions, given the enemy that was already rising from his feet.

To Mica's surprise, the ping of Order came with an equal ping of Chaos, and the only thing she could think of was a Senshi battling a lieutenant. It was enough to intrigue her, as well as make her sigh. Who was in charge of training the new lieutenants? Did they not know better?

Still, it wasn't as though the Order energy was that much greater than his. In fact, it felt to be at about the same level, and as callous as she was to the idea of this new Negaverse, she could not abandon a comrade, nor could she quell her curiosity without at least getting a glimpse of how the fight was going.

Assuming it was a fight, of course, and not some pathetic attempt to play nice with the enemy. That would have earned the lieutenant a scoff, if he or she was lucky. Nevertheless, Mica decided it was a worthy enough cause to investigate, and it didn't take her long to find the two locked in combat. Immediately, her interests were at its peak, and she couldn't help but approve of the lieutenant's tenacity, his fight, that cold look in his eyes.

"Could it be another like myself I see?" Mica said aloud, not meaning to distract the lieutenant from his task but wanting his attention. She drew closer, weapon in hand, but she did not engage as of yet. Thus far, he seemed to be fairing well, but she wasn't close enough to get a better look at him. If he was wounded or looked to be in trouble, then maybe she'd step in. Maybe. "Do you require assistance, lieutenant?"

When the fellow Chaos member finally appeared, the lieutenant did not know her. He would have remembered her assassin's garb, her plain speech, the spear with the crystalline tip, all of which he viewed from the corners of his eyes as he ducked a swung fist. He rolled away to try and put some distance between himself and the enemy.

"Not necessary." Serpentine told her crisply before lunging at the Senshi. The lieutenant felt he was doing a pretty decent job at the moment, and the more time he spent interacting with his fellow Negaverse officer, the more time the enemy had to gain the upper hand. She was stronger than him, and thus likely outranked him... perhaps a Captain, like Bazzite had been?

He lunged in for another strike before a magical wave of energy sent him flying backwards into a nearby bush. While not overly prickly, it wasn't particularly soft either. And he had lost his hat!

Mica took no offense when her offer was declined. At least the lieutenant was polite about turning it down, and it was refreshing to see some tenacity and will to fight within someone she assumed was still fresh to the game. Of all the lions that willingly gelded themselves to conform to this Negaverse, there were a few that seemed to fight back, as well as fighting the enemy, and Mica was pleased.

Of course, she wasn't going to oblige to his wishes anyway. Even before the Senshi sent him flying back into the bushes, Mica was preparing to jump in regardless. As much as she found herself admiring this lieutenant, she outranked him and therefore had the privilege of stepping in. If he complained, then she'd simply say that she was doing what was needed to protect him, even if it was from himself.

She stepped over his fallen hat and struck the senshi without warning, driving the crystal-imbedded side forward and catching the enemy off guard. While the blow didn't drive into the senshi's side, it was enough to cut his flesh and send him tumbling back.

What Mica should have done was go in for the kill, but she held back, surprisingly enough. She wanted to even the playing field, and if he failed to finish the job, even with her assistance, then he wasn't worthy of her time after all. She wanted to be proved wrong. She called to the lieutenant in the bushes, taking a step back and holding her weapon at her side. "Get up and finish him off. I'd like to talk to you."

The lieutenant extracted himself from the bush just in time to see the unnamed Negaverse officer jump into his fight. He did not mind the assistance, per say, but it irked him to see his wishes clearly defied. Serpentine did not need her help, however willing she was to offer it. The sight of blood and the ease with which it was drawn made his pride ache and his jealousy flare. He deserved such a formidable weapon... but he was not ready to allow his rubber snake to be insulted further.

The gold-clad lieutenant did not even take the time to remove the leaves and branches that clung to his uniform before throwing himself back into the fray. If the captain grounded the Senshi and initiated the tumbling, then the soccer player's kick gave them a bit more space to coordinate an attack. The rainbow-haired man glanced over to his fellow officer to do just that.

Yet, it seemed that as soon as her aid had been ofered, it was taken away. Fine by him; he relished any opportunity to remind others of his natural superiority. Her words were a bit more troubling, but only slightly so. Serpentine had not killed anyone yet in this war... but, as with any 'war,' casualities were inevitable. He initially moved to comply by wrapping his weapon somewhat between his two hands. Using the snake to strangle had proven the best technique thus far.

The glimmering, blood-stained tip of the Captain's weapon, however, gave him another idea. It would take longer to kill the Senshi with a rubber snake then it would with a spear. That was enough of a reason for him to tuck his snake into his sash and stretch out his hand to the captain, "Very well. Give me your weapon."

She admired his tenacity, as well as his silence. For too long she had been stuck with that insufferable Moreau and felt that she never got a moment's peace when he was home. All he did was talk, talk, talk, talk. This lieutenant, however, seemed to have a good control of that mouth of his, and she could look into his golden eyes and see the wheels turning. Smart and quiet? Add to his battle lust, she could get to like a lieutenant like this.

Mica was true to her word, remaining distant but close enough to lend her spear if it looked as though the Senshi would get the upper hand. No, her blow seemed to have done the trick, and she was eager to see him choke the life from the Senshi. It would have been slow, painful, and his patience would have made her all the prouder.

However, he made a simple request, and Mica didn't hear a single utterance of the word 'please'. She wanted to refuse his offer on those basis alone, but the fact that he had acknowledged, in some manner, the superiority of her weapon choice, she handed the weapon to him. "Knock yourself out."

An idea came to mind, and she withheld her weapon from him, just out of reach, as she tilted her head with a coo. "Or, wouldn't you rather have his starseed?"

No worries! You know Krishna is the King of short. xD;

Again, no sooner had assistance been offered than it was snatched from his grasp. Serpentine was a patient man, but he still did not appreciate someone toying with him. The Captain seemed professional in her way, but of two minds. Apparently her initial command was no longer valid?

"Starseed?" The lieutenant repeated the word in a manner which made clear that he had absolutely no idea what it should signify. He pressed his spatted foot onto the wounded Senshi's chest to pin him to the ground. However, his eyes remained on the woman who had appeared before him. "If you wish, I will retrieve it."

She could tell that he was more annoyed with her sudden psyche out than he let on, which meant that this one had great control over his emotions. He was so much like herself in so many ways that it was like looking into a distorted mirror into a twisted alternate reality. He didn't seemed to know what a starseed was, and Mica just so happened to be in the mood to help him out.

"A starseed is their soul, their very essence... compact into a small, fragile little crystal," Mica explained, keeping her weapon to herself and her eyes set on the lieutenant before her. She had little concern for the Senshi and trusted Serpentin to keep him still, and if he managed to throw him off, there was always her trusted spear to keep the little Senshi in line. "We all hold a starseed in our chests. I'm certain you recall whoever awakened you reaching into your chest, correct?"

It was a rhetorical question, she knew, but it was an important detail, one that no one could forget. She looked down at the Senshi, seeing his struggle and smiling at his pathetic attempts. "I want you to do the same. Reach into his chest and pluck it out for me. Please."

The gold-clad lieutenant listened intently to her words. A starseed, in his chest. Yes, Zinkenite had reached there, before the pain... it made his back stiffen slightly in memory. The woman was implying that he could do the same--not the pain, perhaps, but the act of reaching into another's chest. He gave a curt nod, "Very well."

Serpentine pressed his hand against his the Senshi's chest, encountering nothing but silken bow and feeling the chest bone in its proper place. His eyes narrowed as he trailed his hand against the costume for a moment, but with no further results. For a brief moment, he considered that this new Captain was trying another trick, much like her offered aid and weapon. Something seemingly helpful, only to be snatched away.

Yet, he knew from experience that it could be done. If it could be done... then certainly he could do it. Resolute, the lieutenant made another attempt with renewed vigor. This time he pulled back his hand slightly and then quickly 'tapped' the Senshi's chest. He imagined that there was no flesh, no bone, nothing to get in his way. And, slowly, his fingers sunk into his victim's chest in a way that science told him was impossible. The Senshi gasped in pain and jacknifed under the lieutenant's touch.

The power that Serpentine felt in this position, with the enemy completely in his power was... intoxicating. Without breaking his gaze from the gasping being below, he asked the Captain, "How will I find it?"

Mica rather liked this one. He was obedient, yet attentive and conscious enough to know when to object or when to openly question her. This one was a fine officer to the Negaverse she once knew, and this was enough to quell the need to retrieve the starseed for herself when he appeared to be taking too long.

She was patient, and oddly kind, as though she were a loving teacher standing over a student's work, not lifting a finger or guiding him with words to allow him to find the answer for himself. It was only when he had plunged his hand into the senshi's chest and caused the victim to jackknife that she moved to help him, and that was only to keep the victim still. She pressed down the dull side of her weapon on the senshi's shoulder and stepped on the other hand with a sharp heel, but she didn't move to help Serpentine with the starseed.

As proud of this lieutenant that she was, that didn't necessarily mean that she was going to guide him through everything. She replied, speaking over the senshi's screams and not once having to raise her voice. She knew that he was listening to her every word and to raise her voice would have been unnecessary. "Dig around a little. Go deeper. You'll know when you've reached it."

The screams were horrific. While Serpentine enjoyed his position of power, he was not a complete monster. But he forced himself to listen, despite taking no pleasure in the sound. If he was to be asked to steal starseeds often--as he assumed he would be, given the Captain's persistence in teaching him this skill--then he would have to desensitize himself to the scream. Or get more proficient so he could do the deed quickly.

If the assassin-like woman was hoping for him to be violent, then she would likely be disappointed. He took full advantage of the extra restraint she was putting on the Senshi and plunged his hand deeper. His seeking fingers encountered an object deep inside... and this he quickly grasped and removed even as the Senshi drew his last, shuddering breath.

Serpentine looked to the shining object in his hand. It was so small a thing... but so very, very beautiful. His palm instinctively cupped around the precious object, even as he held it up for the Captain's inspection. "This?"

Mica wanted to relish in the unfortunate Senshi's screams for a little while longer, but it seemed that Serpentine was quick and efficient. He ripped the starseed out quickly, though the act was no where close to painless for their victim, and Mica released her hold on the Senshi to draw close enough to the lieutenant to give the starseed a look over.

"It's a beauty," Mica said with a sly smile, and she crouched next to him, resting a gloved arm over his shoulders to lean against him. She could have been doing it to get a better look at the starseed, but one would have to be completely clueless to not sense the longing in her voice as she all but cooed. "One of the brightest I've seen in a long, long time. Congratulations, lieutenant..."

She wanted the starseed. She half wondered if she could have weaseled it out of his hands, or if giving the command would have been sufficient with this one. He was obedient, but not blindly so, which made him difficult to read. Best to act coy for now and see where that'd land her. "So, you plan on keeping it, or was there a special someone you'd like to give it to?"

Serpentine did not need her comments or her congratulations. The dead Senshi was a rather sobering reminder of the seriousness of the war in which he had been enlisted. Yet, the lieutenant did not feel remorse. It could easily have been him lying on the ground. It was a risk inherent to his role in the Negaverse. The shining seed in his hand glimmered in the darkness, as though he held a small star.

Serpentine's hand curled around the precious object, and he drew it to his chest. He did not particularly like the captain making physical contact with him. Superior rank or no, he made this clear as he attempted to pull away from the glove wrapped around his shoulders. As for the starseed... "I retrieved it. It is mine." Simple answer to a simple question.

Again, this lieutenant was full of surprises, and Mica was simply too taken back by his audacity to be too angry with him. He had not only pulled away, but he refused to relinquish his hard-won prize, and as his superior ranking officer, she could have easily have disciplined him and took the starseed by force.

But she didn't. He had earned this starseed, and she was willing to concede on this fact alone. But there was more to it then that.

"Very well," Mica said, pulling away from him and giving him his space. By this time, the Senshi had long since drawn his last breath, and his fuku began to fade, but Mica didn't bother looking. There was no point. The dead were not worthy of her attention, only the living and those with the will to fight. "It's refreshing to see someone willing to fight and kill again. Maybe there is hope for the Negaverse after all. Keep it. Collect more. Keep your fangs sharp, always."

She knew she was borderline rambling, but she felt that she needed to say those words. She needed to stress just how important that it was that he fought on, when the Negaverse allowed itself to be declawed. It simply made her proud. As though it was finally worth returning.
