I posted this question in one of my writing guilds, but I think here would be a better place to get the answers I need. Guild Moderators, if I've posted this in the wrong forum, I apologize. Please move it to the appropriate location. Thank you.

So, I'm writing a Dragon Ball Z/Sailor Moon crossover (cliche, I know) and I was thinking of turning some of the DBZ characters into Sailor Scouts.

Example: Bra becomes Sailor Vegetasei etc.

But that's not actually what I want your opinions on. I'm also thinking of taking ONE Dragon Ball character and REPLACING a canon Sailor Scout with her. THAT is what I want your feedback on. In most fandoms, I (personally) feel that replacing a canon character from one universe with another is a bit of a taboo. That's why I wanted other SM fans' input.

Valese/Palase (Goten's girlfriend from GT). I want to make her one of the Quartette Scouts, either Sailor Pallas (because of the matching names) or Sailor Ceres (because CereCere wore mostly yellow as her civilian clothes and Valese wears all yellow). -Both reasons are flimsy excuses, I know.

The Quartette Scouts don't appear as actual Scouts in the anime, only the manga. In the anime they are the Amazoness Quartette (villains) same as they first appeared in the manga but are never shown as Sailor Scouts. They are supposed to be Chibiusa's team in the 30th century when she takes over as Sailor Moon.

So, while they're not really shown as Scouts and few people would recognize them as Scouts, is it okay to replace one of them with a DB character?

I disapprove. emotion_donotwant

You have to be careful when you do that. Obviously, you're working with an alternate universe, which allows these things. But sentimentally, replacing a character we all know should be there is a bit tough to handle in my opinion. If anything, you should make/replace the entire Quartet versus just one.

And that's why I'm asking ahead of time.

Although, I do kinda like your idea of replacing the entire Quartette. But the Dragon Ball franchise just doesn't have enough female characters within the right age-range for me to replace all four of them. At best, I could replace three.

Scouts' ages are a bit flexible. Just a bit. Like the Outer Senshi.

Dragonball Triplet could work. Bulma plus Chi Chi at least?

Bulma and Chichi are in the wrong generation.

But I could do Valese, Marron, and Pan.

Normally I don't like crossovers like these either, but you've obviously given this a great deal of thought, which shows that you're going to treat these characters with the respect they deserve. ^_^

What if you used Arale Norimaki as your fourth member, since she technically doesn't age.

That's a possibility. While she is technically a Dr. Slump character, she does appear in Dragon Ball enough to justify using her.

I was also thinking of using Coco, a character who only appears in the Brolly Second Coming movie. Or Lime. Of course, Lime is kinda in-between the generations. She's Gohan's age which makes her ten to twenty years older than Valese, Marron and Pan.

So, am I to infer from your suggestion that you wouldn't be to adverse to the idea of the Quartette being replaced by DB characters?

Personally, I love the Amazon Quartette too much to ever entertain the idea of replacing them.

Also, I think Coco would be a good choice if you're going to continue using a strict age range for this team. ^-^

Oh, I like them too, don't get me wrong.

I just want there to be more cross-polinating between the DB world and the SM world. If I could take Sailor Moon characters and make them soldiers of Feeza's army, I'd do that too. The closest I think I could get away with without changing anyone's canon powers would be allying villains like Wiseman or Nehelinia(sp?) with magical DB villains like Babidi.

Since the Quartette are fairly marginal characters, I thought I could get away with making them DB characters. But I wanted to make sure with slightly more hard-core fans than myself. Hence this thread.

I admit I don't have enough experience working with crossovers to give you much helpful advice, but can certainly respect your willingness to do as much justice to characters from both universes. Not to mention having the guts to ask a guild full of dedicated Moonies about it.

DBZ is technically a sci-fi, while SM is obviously a Magical Girl. I can understand the desire to explore the inter-planetary connections that the two worlds might share, because both on their own seem practically limitless.

For one, I'm glad to see someone using Bra/Bulla more. I always felt that she had so much potential in the character department, not to mention the Saiyan abilities she never (Maybe once in GT.) used onscreen. (Vegeta knew she was biologically hardy enough to be thrown without injury, or else he likely wouldn't have done so.)

I understand the creator of DBZ clearly had a set time and place where he wanted the series to end, but I found it unfortunate that Bulla was never really given much of a chance to explore her potential. I also find it interesting that Bulla is under similar circumstances as Usagi, being the last princess of a dead planet/kingdom, and it makes me wonder how she would handle it if she were given the chance to give her heritage a fresh start, just as Usagi did.

All very true. *nods, nods*

I'm really more of Vegeta-Briefs family fan than I am a Son family fan myself. So, I'm always disappointed when one of them never gets a chance to realize their potential. Or even worse, when they DO realize it but their achievement is downplayed and over-shadowed, making what would have been a monumental achievement trivial. It makes me so mad! ...But I'm not gonna swing off into a rant about that. (At least, not right now.)

What the fic is, just to give you a little context for this conversation, is an AU (meaning it doesn't take place in either the Sailor-verse or Dragon ball-verse) and is sort of space-adventure and romance (in three acts if I can actually commit to it long enough) with Trunks and Chibiusa as the main romantic pair.

The Saiyans are weary of the Sailor Senshi since -as you said- they're magical and Dragon Ball is sci-fi. They don't really understand their powers or how to fight them in a battle, so the two mostly just circle each other and glare but don't do much else. That is, until they find a common enemy and have to work together. Over the course of the struggle, characters from the DB-verse start to Awaken as Sailor Senshi (like Bra as Sailor Vegetasei).

Overall, its a cliche plot. But I thought it would be fun to write.
