It was all JK could do to keep from flying down the stairs at a breakneck speed, the way he used to when he was a little boy, about to be left with the babysitter while his mother and father went out for a night on the town. It used to signal a night of.....good-natured fun, usually consisting of bullying the babysitter into a dinner of Twinkies and whipped cream and sneaking down the stairs at least five times while the unsuspecting girl either dozed on the couch or yammered to her friends on her parents' phone.
Of course, it was different tonight. His mother and Mr. Kaneko were to be going out for a special evening together, leaving JK and Shin to fend for themselves for the evening. Well, at least he could still have someone to drive up the wall.
"Now you boys be good while we're gone." Ms. Katch gave JK one of her all-knowing looks as she adjusted the strap of her purse over her coat. She knew her little boy was still as mischievous as he had been years ago; a little thing like age never stopped him before, and she wasn't expecting their short time spent in the immaculate and clean house of the Kanekos to change that anytime soon, if at all. Reaching into her purse, she pulled out a crisp twenty and handed it to JK as she bent over to plant a kiss on his forehead, ignoring his slight wince at the touch. "If you get hungry......and share with your brother!" she added in a slightly sterner whisper as she straightened up and nodded to Mr. Kaneko.
Beaming and clasping his hands so that he wouldn't be able to reach up and wipe the sticky red mark off of his forehead, JK nodded and smiled at the pair with his best smile, which he knew perfectly well looked every bit as angelic as a fox in a chicken coop. "Have fun you guys." He said in actual sincerity as the door closed, then with a small whoop he turned and dashed toward the kitchen, bill in hand. "Alright; time to order some pizza!"
