Dennis was finding that work felt very much like work today. Usually he could swing it that it was a little fun, and his motivation was geared toward doing the best he could, so he could just lose himself in that. But today there was nothing for him to do, no projects he could take on, no work that someone else was behind on that he could do for them. Nothing to make himself look better and nothing to actually do for himself.
These days happened sometimes.
"Alright, alright," he said to the woman behind the front desk, who was telling him off for leaving for his lunch so late. "I'll get it on time next time. I'd've taken it sooner if you weren't gone for so long." He knew that was actually true, and she did as well. It stopped her yammering and he wandered out of the building, sighing and thinking he'd have to get her flowers or something to make up for it.
He had to have everyone on his side. He didn't give two shits for her, or her little feelings, but if she complained about him and started making his life hard, he'd never get the promotions he wanted. It was all just business to him.
Wandering around for a bit, he found a sports bar that looked like it might have some decent food, and he was hungry for burgers or something along those lines. He went inside, looking around and finding the look pleasing. He wasn't a big sports person, but the bar part he always approved of. Even if he couldn't drink right now, since he was still on the clock. Whatever.

Aubrey hustled from table to table checking on customers and topping off drinks, it was relatively busy at this time for the lunch rush. She noticed someone new walking in the door and flashed him a slightly frazzled smile. "Feel free to sit wherever you like, I'll be right by with a menu!" She told him cheerily. The great thing about being busy is that it didn't give you time to think too much about how the day has gone, you could just focus on what you were doing, and sometimes that single minded monotony was good for the soul. Aubrey finished up with her last two tables then went to find the new guy. She brushed her hair back away from her face thinking that she needed to re-braid it soon however she smiled at Dennis as she placed a menu in front of him. "Hi, My name's Aubrey and welcome to the Ace of Spades. Can I get you started with anything to drink?" She questioned with a brilliant smile as she pulled out her writing pad as she waited for his order.

Dennis nodded his head at the waitress, flashing a bright and charming smile. He moved to sit down, picking a seat at random. He didn't really have a preference, not minding if he was sitting near someone or away from them, or directly in their lap. As long as he got his food, he was content.
He smiled at the waitress when she made it to him, not in too much of a rush because he had not been given the breaks he'd needed. He had asked his boss for a longer lunch, whether the chick at the front desk liked it or not.
"Hello Aubrey," he said with a nod, taking the menu and thanking her for it. He glanced it over, humming to himself for a moment. "I think I'd like a coke. Hey, what's good here? I've never been here before, and I'm a meat kinda guy. Do you have good burgers and all that here?"
He was really stuck on burgers, but he'd whatever she recommended as the best in the place.

Aubrey made the quick note about the coke on her pad then grinned at him. "Oh we have excellent burgers, mushroom swiss, cowboy burger, Deluxe classic." she listed off as she turned the menu to the burger page. "There's even a build your own option where you get to pick how you'd like your burger cooked and your choice of toppings and sides." Aubrey informed him, pointing at the various things she mentioned. "We also have a great selection of wings, ranging from BBQ to melt your mouth off flaming hot, and various other types." She smiled at that, the super hot wings were her personal favorite, but not everyone could handle them. "Anyway, I'll go get your coke and give you a bit more time with the menu!" she said cheerily as she made her way to the bar to grab his drink. She soon returned and placed the glass of coke on a coaster on the table and placed a straw beside it. "Make up your mind?" she questioned smiling at him.

Dennis canted his head to the side, arching an eyebrow in thought and interest. Build your own, eh? He could do that, but he preferred to see the best that others had to offer instead of taking it into his own hands at the start.
Or, maybe a bit more true, was he was too lazy to put his own together and liked how simple ordering on the menu was. That was what it was there for, after all.
"Alright, thanks. I'll think things over." He grinned at her and pondered the menu a bit more, deciding on the deluxe classic and some of the flaming hot wings. Because he liked a challenge every now and then, and was not thinking about how he might regret it once he got back to his desk at work.
Yolo.
When she returned, he gave her his order, beaming eagerly. This place was pretty nice, as far as it went, and he was glad he had stopped by. He would have to make this his regular place, if the food was as good as the vibe was. Something about it just had him feeling good.

Aubrey raised a brow when he ordered. "You're a brave man..." She said half joking as she jotted down his order. "Alright I'll go put that in and it should be out in a few minutes! Just flag me down if you need anything." She added with a cheery smile as she bounced off to the back to place his order with the cooks. After placing his order she made her rounds again, checking on other customers to make sure they were comfortable and happy. One couple was getting ready to leave so she hurried to get their check for them and then clean up their table after they left. It wasn't their busiest day which was good because they were under staffed and Aubrey had half of the seating area to herself as one of her coworkers was sick and the other getting ready to have a baby. After a few minutes she went back to the table that Dennis was sitting at to check on his drink level and if she should grab him another yet.

Dennis considered for a moment that he might have made a mistake, but he wasn't sure about that one. He would have to see just how hot these hot wings were, but at least he had some normal food to eat if the wings went poorly.
His poor coworkers would pay for it, surely, but that was fine by him. They would deal with it or just suffer miserably and whine the whole time.
Either way, he was fine.
He smiled his thank yous to his waitress and let her go, thinking this place was getting better. They had done pretty good job hiring their staff, at least, and he smiled contentedly to himself as he leaned back and relaxed a bit.
He didn't drink much of his glass, and he looked at her in wonder. He grinned at her as she returned. "Hello again! I'm fine, but I wanted to ask, has this place been here long? Do you like working here? I'm thinking of making it part of my weekly routine. Been needing a new spot to relax, you know?"

Aubrey smiled in return at Dennis as she shifted her weight on her feet and tucked a wayward curl away from her face and behind her ear. "Ace of Spades has been in business for over ten years, however I've only been here a little less than one." she smiled slightly and shrugged. "Its a decent place to work, my boss is great and I get along well with my co workers, I'd say the only downfall is the sometimes rowdy customers on football nights, so I'd say if you wanted to relax you should avoid those days, or at least come earlier in the day." She then grinned. "But the Friday night games more than make up for it if you like to gamble." Her tone of voice betrayed that she did. "Lunch time its about at relaxing as a lunch rush can be I suppose." She added with a glance around the relatively busy establishment.

Dennis leaned back in his chair and listened to a monologue he was sure she had to repeat rather constantly, to new customers or just to ones that were being shits and asking her dumb questions just to flirt with her. He was actually legitimately interested in the establishment, though, so he was glad for it.
"That's good. Nice work environment means happier staff, which means better service." He chuckled and knocked his knuckles on the table lightly, just in thought.
"Avoid sports. Right. Well, that's sort of a given, eh? I mean, you don't know, but I do that already." He laughed. It would be easy to stay away from the drunk crowds, if he knew when they appeared. He was sure he could pick up the routine, the regulars, easy enough while becoming one himself.
"Well, the place sounds good enough for me. I like it already. Thanks for the answers! I know you're busy."

Aubrey smiled genuinely at Dennis, he seemed like a nice guy and she wouldn't mind having him as a regular, after all she dealt with enough morons on a daily basis it would be nice to have some intelligent conversation once in a while. "Well I try to always be happy, and give excellent service regardless of the quality of the boss." She mused with a light shrug, after all this wasn't the first establishment she had worked at, but definitely the nicest. Once he mentioned being busy Aubrey nodded. "Yeah I should check on the other tables and your food!" she exclaimed with a grin before moving away from his table. She checked the other tables in her section quickly then went to see if any of the food was ready, the cooks told her that Dennis's order would be out in a few minutes, but another of her tables was ready. She delivered that to a chatty old woman who was going on about her cats. By the time she was finally able to get away from the old lady Dennis's order was ready and she brought it to his table. "I hope you like it, I brought blue cheese and Ranch since I forgot to ask which you'd prefer, and there's also a couple of pieces of bread to help with the extra hot wings." She informed him as she placed the plate on the table. "Can I get you anything else?" she questioned.

Dennis was more than happy to be the nice customer. He was a nice guy, really, when he had no reason to be anything else. Yes, he was competitive, but there was nothing to compete with here. There were no prizes, just good food, so the best thing he could do was be nice and personable, without any ulterior motives. Just being a genuine guy.
"You're doing a good job of it, I have to tell you. I'll be sure to leave you a nice tip."
He grinned and nodded his head, not too thrifty and not minding to give money when it was warranted. He could be generous when it benefited, and even in this it would. No competition, no, but he still wanted good service and a nice report, so he needed to earn it.
He let her get back to her job, relaxing until the food arrived. He grinned at the spread, his stomach rumbling.
"No, I think I'm good, thank you! You've been great."

Aubrey smiled when he said tip, it wasn't the reason she gave good service, but it certainly helped to reinforce the desire to continue being a good waitress. "I'll be sure to be back with a refill soon, You're gonna need it." She added with a little grin and wink before she made her way away from his table to take care of other customers. Bustling about she brought food to a few other tables, took the order of another and brought the check to a table of rowdy teenagers, no big tip there, but it was pretty much to be expected. Glancing towards Dennis's table every now and then she noted when his drink got to a quarter left and promptly brought him a new glass with a smile and a "here you go!"

Dennis liked the idea that the hot wings would do him gastronomic harm, and he ate them at his leisure. They were incredibly hot and he had to pause between bites to gather himself and soldier on. He opted to temper the spice with bites of his burger, which was delicious and brought his mind from the terrible pain in his mouth.
He definitely liked this place.
It took him most of his lunch break, but he finished his meal and he made to get his cheque sent to him. He was a patient enough sort, not opting to be rude because he had no reason to. Maybe if he was in a rush he would wave down his server, but since she had been pretty attentive so far, he would just let her see him and come back.
Anyway, he needed the time to recover. His eyes were still stinging, not to mention the burning of his mouth.

Aubrey made her way around her section and attended to her other customers, Smiling and chatting with some of the regulars she knew and in general keeping a cheery attitude when dealing with her customers. She wiped down a few tables and carried plates and cups from tables to the kitchen to be washed. On her third round through the restaurant she sat a giggling group of teenage girls and walked away with their drink orders with a slight roll of her eyes, she was fortunate her teenage sister was a quiet type and not so annoying. After returning with their drinks she noticed that Dennis seemed to be done with his meal. Aubrey soon bounced over to Dennis's table with another brilliant smile. "Are you all done? Can I get you a desert or drink to go?" She questioned shifting her weight slightly as she grinned down at him.

Dennis looked up when she returned and nodded his head, smiling.
"All done. I don't think my stomach can take any more abuse today. Not to say it was bad! It was really good, actually, but you were right with those warnings about the wings." He laughed leisurely, not having regrets there save maybe for having eaten them all. It was going to be a long day at work now, but that was just fine by him.
"I think I'm good, just the cheque would be great. And thanks for all the info, and the good service. You're a doll." He grinned and nodded his head, being sincere rather than one of those typical, sleezy customers that liked to hit on anything with boobs.
He could be underhanded and sleezy, yes, but not in things like this. Despite all his flaws, his confidence, and his selfishness, he had a level of respect for women that he wouldn't impeach. Maybe it was his one weakness, and even at work he had to think really hard before taking a woman out of his path for glory. He always followed through, since his ambition was everything, but at least he thought about it a bit more.
